Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available in the Summer / Fall sale, or to see some new Fall arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. No trip for me this weekend. I'm waiting for the new arrivals to be on the floor before I go. :)

  2. I might go and return a couple of things.

I purchased the perfect pencil skirt in plum, gray and bright blue. I ahve worn the gray and plum multiple times, but just cannot quite fall in love with the blue. I wish it were just slightly more a muted and soft blue.

I also ordered one of the ruffled liberty print blouses as it keeps disappearing in the size 4. I like it, but it just isn't in my palette and it is an expensive shirt to only be able to wear with jeans. If I wore more brown, cinnamon, etc, I would really like it.

I "like" both things, but would rather save my money in hope of finding something I love in the new rollout.

  3. kitsmommy: what colors are you wearing the plum skirt with? I would like to get that color but want to make sure I have plenty of colors that would work. TIA!

  4. I swung by Prince St the other day. They have a great selection of women's sale shoes -- some $20 less than online! I had just ordered the Cossette Mary Jane peep toes after seeing A Bigger Closet's fab IRL shots. At Prince St the Whisper Pink was $79.99 as opposed to $99.99 online.

  5. I am just wearing it with neutrals. I have worn it with my gray Carolyn merino cardi (the one with the ruffles that they have in store), a short sleeve gray merino v-neck I just bought from BR, and my white Francis shirt. I also like it with a little black cashmere tee shirt that I bought from BR last year, but have not worn this pairing out yet.

The plum is lovely - rich and noteworthy. I am just finding the blue to be a bit overpowering and I can't imagine being able to actually wear this that frequently. Is anyone else in love with the blue? What are you pairing it with?

  6. OT, but if you are out and about this weekend and are looking for any cardis, Ann Taylor has a new one that is just fantastic.

It is the merino crewneck cardigan and is item 234392. I purchased the gray and the mineral blue. The mineral blue is darker than it looks online and is very well made. They gray is lovely too. I really adore the shape, fit and they have very unusual buttons. I ordered them on promotion and with another discount I was emailed and they came out to be about $50 each. They are lovely.

I also ordered cashmere v-necks in shoreline and rasberry ice and am undecided. They are a little long and I do not like rolled hems.

  7. kitsmommy - I have the bright blue pencil from last year and have worn it quite a bit. I pair it with the obvious neutrals but it also goes well with soft pinks and purples, deep burgundy/wine and some complimentary blues, especially prints. I plan to wear it next week with the paisley perfect shirt. This shirt is fast becoming my favorite. It's really versatile with all the different soft neutrals in the classic pattern and shape. I wore it with the fresh plum pencil skirt a couple weeks ago too.

  8. If anyone's interested in the Metropolitan suede ankle boots (in Tobacco) -- I got them this week and am wearing them today for the first time.

They are beautiful! I've already had several compliments from colleagues. The colour is less "brown" than it looks online, it has quite a bit of grey in it so that it reads very neutral. I know I'll be wearing them with everything.

I found this boot was TTS, unlike so many of the recent JC shoes. Very comfortable, and they look great with the herringbone tights :)

They were expensive ($250), but no more expensive than a lot of the booties I've seen in other stores this year, and they're very good quality (to my eye).

They're such an elegant, yet "on trend" boot -- I feel very fashionable without looking like I'm trying too hard to be 25 ;-)

  9. Hi everyone, I have an O/T and slightly strange question. Has anyone here tried on or bought a men's cardigan? I actually like the pony brown color a lot more than some of the pastels in the women's section. If you have tried on a guy's sweater, was it too baggy/bulky? TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Cliqout-thanks for review. What kind of outfit are you wearing with the boots?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Off topic but I need some advice. I have been eyeing the double serge cotton pencil skirt in the sale section in shocking pink for a while now...wondering if I should take the plunge? I live in NY, work in a business casual environment, and am wondering if there is a way for me to "winterize" it?

Any advice would be appreciated :)

    ReplyDelete
  12. Tracey --> I'm a bit OTT JCrew today :)

    This is my outfit:

Wool bistro mini skirt in Grey
    Slub cotton embroidered flowers tee
    brown-toned herringbone tights
    Metropolitan ankle boots in tobacco

With a long, purpley-grey space-dyed cardigan with a ruffled placket over top.

I bought the bistro mini a size bigger so that it would sit low on my hips and not be too mini on me. The skirt hits about 1.5" from the top of my knee.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Cliquot--sounds like a really cute outfit!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. JaneEsq --> IMO, the shocking pink would be tricky to winterize. To me, it's such a bright, summery colour...maybe workable if it was a pink sweater, but and I don't know if a skirt in that colour would lend itself to a dark coloured tight, for instance.

But on sale it would be a great buy to wear next spring!

    ReplyDelete
  15. JaneEsq. you could try it with an ivory turtleneck, ivory tights and light brown boots, or try the same with a gray combo instead of the ivory/brown. The pink is fairly bright but it's not neon and would be well-suited to a "winter white" look. You may only have one or two looks for the winter but then you will have it to wear again in spring and summer.

It's a great skirt but it is unlined and may have a tendency to ride up on the tights when you walk so be sure to get the silkiest tights for the slippery effect.

  16. I'll be out of town this weekend, so I won't be visiting my b&m. I'll head there next weekend to hopefully see some new items. I will be at an JC outlet, so I'm hoping for something good there.

OT - anyone else get the new talbot's catalog? I am loving lots of their items, but I am IN LOVE with the purple plaid blazer. I just might have to splurge for it - at least I have a 20% coupon. :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. JaneEsq.-

I agree with dickfiddy on the winter white option.

Grays, Browns, Black, and Olive colored pieces would "winterize" the pink wonderfully.

The cotton fabric is the trickiest part. I'd stick to wearing the skirt in October (perhaps some warm November days?), around the Holidays, and then wait until warm February days to wear it all spring & summer.

    HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  18. JaneEsq - I have a pink shirt that I wear a light merino cowl neck sweater with and black opaque tights. I live in NYC too. :)

  19. Thanks for the great advice, ladies!

  20. Ahhh, I've tried on several men's cardigans and a couple of pullover hoodie sweaters in XS over the years. I have a small frame, and the sweaters do hang over my shoulders a bit, and it's absolutely a loose, generous fit, but not unflattering.

    ReplyDelete
  21. OT - I received an email today advertising an "early black Friday" sale. Not from JCrew of course, I don't believe they do any black Friday sales. No surprise then that the holiday merch will be out soon but it seems so early to me. Not quite in denial as JCrew says in their FS but I was still wearing shorts here in Canada last week.

  22. Lauren S. -- Thank you for the feedback! I just might have to try a couple on to see how they fit.

  23. Re pink: October is Breast Cancer Awareness month so opportunites to wear pink a lot in October.

  24. Hit JC earlier this morning. New arrivals are coming in. A ruffled top (viscose layers cupcake top) that comes in several colors - similar to rolling ruffling tank, except prettier (to me). Larger ruffles, ruffles around neck that extend it to cap sleeves - hard to describe but loved it - and just posted pics on my blog. Also some new embellished tees that I have on the same post - slub printed sequin snowflake tee, on which I can't find an actual snowflake, and a slub all over beaded tee, which is gorgeous.

  25. Did my JC visit early in the weekend (while the kiddos were in school) to take advantage of the 25% discount on denim and try some newer items. Add me to the list of people infatuated with the Carolyn cardi (#19805) in lavender...just gorgeous and very flattering. It's merino wool and $98, so I'm hoping I can wait for it to go on sale and it will still be available! Also, jewelry was on sale -- bought two lovely bangle bracelets marked down from $26 to $9.99 each for a friend's upcoming birthday...

    ReplyDelete
  26. OT - I just finished online shopping at Ann Taylor. All of their sale section is take an extra 40% off! The cashmere ruffle cardigan (Style # 234028) is on sale for $53.99 once the automatic discount is applied.

THEN -- I received an extra promo in my email, an extra additional 30% coupon (if you spend $200). The Extra 30% (on everything!) coupon code is ITALY30.

I essentially bought this cashmere cardigan for $38 (original price $170). Good luck shoppers!

  27. Shopping in NYC for the Dream Shawl Cardigan in small (and preferably in grey (heather graphite). Will now also be on the prowl for the "cupcake" top featured in HeidiG's post!

    ReplyDelete
  28. hey Ahhhhh I have the mens Gramercy cardigan in pony brown. I always wear a medium and this sweater is TTS. The colour is great and works especially well with gray. The buttons are a leather look and really work well with the sweater. The only problem with you wearing a mens' sweater could be the width, it may not be a fitted as you'd like.

  29. Was at my B&M early this week. Sale section had lots of flower flip flops for $10, head bands, crinkle shirts in white color, cafe capris (only larger sizes), some tees. Nothing note worthy.

My PS said next roll out for Holiday will be next Thursday. Yey!

    ReplyDelete
  30. jcmama - thanks for the update on the rollout. can't wait!

i'll likely stop by the store this weekend to check out a couple of things (kelsey top, sweaters, see if they have some boots).

i took advantage of the ann taylor sale/% off. i just lost a bunch of weight, so i needed some pants. great deals! wish jc had some too....

  31. Random question: do the Dream sweaters pill any less quickly than the cashmere ones?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Fiona:
From my very limited experience they are about the same. I bought one dream sweater but returned it as defective for the horrendous pilling. I have one cashmere from two years ago that is all pilled up too and looks awful. I just steer clear of those now and go with Merino generally.

Now these were both from 2007 and I don't know if they have improved the fabric since then. . . possible?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ahhhhh, last winter I got a men's cashmere cardi in a great dark purple. I sized down one, and it was still a bit long in the arms. It hit lower mid hip on me, I'm 5'5", which is about where my library shawl cardigan hits. It's much roomier than the women's cardigans at the same length, but not hugely so. That sweater was one of my fave things to wear for the cozy factor, and I took good enough care of it so I'll be wearing it this year, too. From this sweater and from buying a ton of JC stuff for my husband, I think they sew men's buttons on better, so overall I'd go ahead and get it if you have a chance to try it on. Good luck!

  34. OT: How do people like the Jaspe material? I "felt it up" instore and I like it, but I wonder how it holds up? I know some people mentioned buying the sweatshirt the last time it was out, and I was hoping for comments on it's durability, sizing, etc. TIA!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Also, I saw a Jaspe v-neck cardigan for $35 at the B&M that I didn't see on the website and I was debating between that and the hoodie. I wonder why the hoodie's twenty bucks more?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Does anyone know what time the updates are happening now in the FS section??

    ReplyDelete
  37. This comment has been removed by the author.

  38. ChessyGoodness: I have the Jaspe sweatshirt from Spring and it has held up very well, washes great but size down, the material is very stretchy.

I ordered the Hoodie in my usual size Med. and I had to send it back for a Small, it was too big in the arms, the body wasn't bad. The Hoodie is nice, it has a double zipper if I remember correctly, and wearing the two together makes it a little warmer to wear on cooler days. The quality is very good on the Jaspe.

Jaspe v-neck sounds tempting, it would look good layered over a stripe tee.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Elizabeth, I think they've been happening lately between 5:30-5:45 am EST.

    ReplyDelete
  40. CheesyGoodness: Sorry I mis-spelled your name. First thing in the am I need another coffee.

    ReplyDelete
  41. CheesyGoodness - i bought the "jaspe" cardi, mine was $39.50, the fabric is a little lighter in weight than the sweatshirt and hoodie and is also very, very slightly different in color. it is super soft and cozy and so far i'm loving it! (i have the hoodie and sweatshirt too but don't tell anybody ;) and i love those as well) i sized down to a small in the hoodie and sweatshirt and got a medium in the cardi (the smalls were all gone) but will probably keep it because that is what i normally take in cardis. i'm guessing the price difference is because of the slight difference in fabric weight and overall design: hood, drawstring, double zipper, that kind of thing. btw my cardi rang up as "baby rib stripe cardi" but my PS called it the jaspe and that's what i'm going with! hth!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Silver_lining, that's what I thought too, but I've been getting up around that time to catch the update and it has already happened and again I have missed out on items I really wanted.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hi Elizabeth - yeah, it might even be happening a little bit before. I used to be able to see the inventory 'boost' while browsing around that time but it seems like lately it has already been done by then. Seems like over the past week they've been updating the sale section daily, which is annoying - one day the Isabel dress is available in my size in navy, the next day it's on there in the other color, etc. No way I'm paying shipping two days in a row, ya know? Hope you find the popbacks you're looking for!

    ReplyDelete
  44. CheesyGoodness: I loooove my jaspes. I have the sweatshirt and the hoodie. The hoodie material is a bit more substantial than the sweatshirt, IMO, thus the price difference most likely. It does have a double zipper. The material is lovely. I've already washed my sweatshirt, and it came out fine. Definitely size down though--the material is stretchy (in a good way) and it does "relax" after wearing it. I probably won't get the cardi unless they come out with some really pretty jewel tones in the jaspe material (can you imagine how pretty? sigh...)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Silver_lining: yes, I do know what you mean about popbacks happening here and there. It would not be so annoying if I had been one of the lucky ones to receive one of those free shipping on any amount cards in the mail. Oh well...Thanks for your input!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hello, can anyone let me know if they see the Short-Sleeved Perfect Fit Corsage Tee on sale in size XS in any color? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I agree the men's sweaters, as well as sweatshirts, fleece cardi's and t-shirts I've tried (even sizing down) still tend to have a boxier or wider fit then the women's items. Hth.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Elizabeth,
I agree. I would have bought a lot in the past few days if I had one of those free shipping no minimum cards! I have not ordered anything in over 6 weeks now!

    ReplyDelete
  49. OT - Received the Crystal Thornbush Drop Earrings #24003 in butterscotch yesterday. There is no information on the product page other than "Import" and the price so I took a chance and hoped they wouldn't be too large. Unfortunately, they are much larger than I expected and the colors are really blah. Here are a couple photos.

    http://s828.photobucket.com/albums/zz205/ShuLvr_photos/Crystal%20Thornbush/

Sorry the second photo is so blurry, it's time for a new camera. I wanted to show how they are slightly angled at the join and not straight and I think you can get the idea through the blur. Anyway, hope that helps someone.

  50. So I held off on the pink pencil skirt and this morning discovered a pop back...the dazzling dots pencil skirt in my size! I ordered it and asked the CS rep to make a note about being able to return it despite it beilg full price (I've heard this skirt is more snug than others).

So now the question is this, do I keep the skirt which I have been coveting for a year...or exchange it for the perfect pencil skirt in plum?

The plum is more versatile but I have been coveting the DD skirt for so long...advice?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Jane Esq --> I was like you last month -- I had been coveting the Crocodile cocktail jacket for ages, then when it popped back on FS I snapped it up, but I fretted about it until it arrived. I don't regret it for a single second now...it's everything I hoped it would be, and I KNOW I would have regretted not buying it.

I say go for the DD skirt. You can always pick up the pencil skirt on sale later on if you still want it.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Cliquot, What do you pair the crocodile jacket with? I've been having a hard time trying to transition it into fall. TIA

    ReplyDelete
  53. jcma-->

Mostly dark denim trousers with black heels, some sort of t-shirt underneath and a yellow or black pashmina scarf. I tend to wear pearls with it too.

Luckily the jacket material is nice and thick, so it still seems appropriate for the season. I figure I can get away with it for a few more weeks while the weather is in the high 50s-low 60s.

    HTH!

  54. I am waiting until next weekend to check out the October rollouts-very excited to see them:). I am holding off until November though to make major purchases as I just bought lots of pretty tees on sale and with a 20% off coupon from ATLoft. I love the jewel-toned colors and I am hoping we will see more of those in the next rollout.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Just dropped by the Prince St store, saw a few new tees and the jersey ruffle tank... nothing else new. Did find out that the full-priced womens heels are 25% off! They have more selections of shoes than other stores so I took the chance to try on the styles that I like and hopefully to grab them during sale. :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Not sure if they're doing this everywhere, but I noticed the NYC J.Crews are donating a portion of this week's profits to an NYC Public Schools charity.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Thanks for all the input on the Jaspe, you guys rock. Sounds like this fabric will be as addicting as the slub for me... uh oh! Now to decide between the cardi and the hoodie. I could not live without cardigans, but a good double zip hoodie will be reached for countless times. I wish Mickey would send out some red cards, hint, hint.

I did my quarterly visit to the Somerset Collection today. The SAs I talked to there seemed really nice and laid back, no stink eyes from even the fanciest looking among them, and they all seemed like they were upbeat. Too bad there wasn't anything I needed to buy. I was only tempted by the Spencer mary janes, which were down to 79.99. They're beautiful, but the fit is like last year's Claudia, very narrow in the toebox, so I passed. The sale section was in the doldrums other than the shoes (there were also some gold Joleys), just the same old embellished tees and men's polos in unfortunate colors. Nothing good on sale in the CC section, either. (Anthro, on the other hand, had an absolutely SICK sale section, with tons of cute dresses for $20-30, so I didn't leave the mall empty handed!)

  58. Hello,
Does anyone own or tried on the Ikat halter dress? I love the print, but just not sure how it would fit. The top reminds me of the Jcrew dylan halter top from 08. Any advice?

    Thank you!!
    Maria

  59. Maria: Summerilla owns it and did a review of it here. HTH!

  60. went to the copley jcrew. pretty slim pickings in the sale section. checked out the paisley shirt i've been wanting -- it feels really flimsy. will wait for the new stuff to come out.

  61. Cliquot~I have the crocodile cocktail jacket and I LOVE IT. Good job trusting your fashion gut ;) I should be getting the DD pencil skirt this week. I don't care if it's mint green, I'll wear it during a NY winter!

  62. Georgetown DC store has a secret sale on crewneck and v-neck cashmere for $99 per sweater. This is a good deal given the colors and some of the quality issues-no reason to pay full price.

Lots of shoes on sale as well as cords. October rollout isn't in yet. Pretty merino ruffle sweater in navy blue and a honey-glze like color. Lots of tees out but paper thin like fabric and not well tailored so I would pass on these.
