J.Crew Email: Here's the skinny...

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who shared the following email with us.

The email promotes J.Crew denim (click here to shop online) with a feature on the Ankle Stretch Toothpick Jean in Twilight Wash (Item 16719; $125.00). The email states:
You can do skinny. (Trust us) Our super skinny toothpick jean in a chic new ankle length.
Oh, how I want to trust you J.Crew. {sigh} Unfortunately, the skinny jeans look just does not work for my pear shape frame.

The outfit above also includes Silk Ruffle Cascade Jacket (Item 20942; $188.00). I have seen this jacket in my local brick & mortar (B&M) stores and don't know if I like it or not. I can't decide if I like the ruffles or its ruffle overload.

What are your thoughts on the Ankle Toothpick Jeans? Do you like the skinny jean look? Thoughts on the Ruffle Cascade Jacket? Are the ruffles a lovely or over-the-top feature?

  2. I know a lot of people swear by these jeans, but I can't stand the ankle length and they look like denim spandex because they are meant to be so tight. I prefer bootcut and have one pair of straight/matchstick jeans.

  3. I also like the idea of these jeans, and the ankle length is cute. But, alas, they don't suit my body type. I had much better luck with the GAP's new "always skinny" jeans.

  4. ^ I also like the fit but the ankle length looks odd on me as I'm on the tall side at 5'9". I have a pair in the regular length as well as other brands of skinny jeans so will take a pass on the ankle jeans and cords too.

  5. I have two pairs and love them, although I think they look best with a long tunic or cardigan and flats--I can't pull off the ruffled jacket/ankle boots look.

Also, my black resin ones are major lint magnets!

  6. I got the silk ruffle cascade jacket and was hoping to wear it with the ankle toothpick jeans, however, they were almost scandalously tight! I heard they stretch out but I decided not to buy them, especially when other brands of skinny jeans are selling for the same pricepoint, and even less!

  7. I cannot do the Toothpick look --and frankly, I sort of object to the name. With so many young women having body issues, it's really not healthy to be naming pants "toothpick" IMHO. However, 2thumbs up for the Ruffle Cascade Jacket. I bought in the Wild Blackberry (navy) color and adore. It's a fun dress up or dress down jacket.

  8. I love the toothpick ankle length jeans so much. I have every color in the denim and just got 2 of the cords. They are so comfortable. I wear them with boots and flats and the length really works for me. :)

  9. The ruffle jacket is so beautiful in person. I bought it last week, but have yet to review it. Maybe I can post some pictures this weekend. The color, fabric, and cut are great!

  10. I'm 5'3" and this ankle length toothpick jeans works for me just right. I bought size 25, and yes, they do stretched out, especially around waist, but still very comfortable and flattering pair of jeans.

  11. I prefer the matchsticks over the toothpick. The leg is too skinny for me on the toothpick.

  12. i am obsessed with the toothpick jeans and I love them with ankle boots. i'm a size 4 and only 5'4 which is why i think they work for me. my sister who is an 8 and 5'7 tried them on and they were not so good on her. also i didn't feel like they got bigger which great. my matchsticks are now huge on me. only draw back to these jeans is that they are around 30-40% polyester. gets really hot in them.

  13. I tried them on and they looked okay, but since I'm already tall, it just looked like my pants were too short. Great to wear with boots, but I'm not spending $100+ on jeans I can only wear with one style of shoe.

  14. I've worn my denim with ankle boots and flats. I'm 4"10" so the "ankle" is really my preferred inseam. I like the fact that I can buy them and not have to immediately run to the tailor. I'm not sure how they will work with the tall boots since I still have a little extra fabric near my ankle.

  15. I love these jeans. I have the black and the dark wash. I will wait for a % off or promo to buy the new wash. I am 5'4", so they work more like a pant on me. I love them with flats and tucked into boots. Lauren S, you're right that the black ones attract lots of lint! What's up with that? I also have a pair of toothpick cords and will probably pick up more once they go on sale. I have not liked the matchstick until this season - they finally fit me correctly. :)

  16. I can do skinny, but I can't do skintight spandex jeans. Sorry, JCrew. Agree with ShuLvr, also, that the ankle length looks odd on us taller girls.

  17. I just love this look, but will probably have to settle for bootcut on the bottom half. My PS has suggested trying a pair that is a size or 2 up from my regular size. Maybe I will give the look a try this weekend

  18. I haven't tried these and probably won't. I'm really not a fan of skinny jeans at all, unless they are worn tucked into boots. I do own one pair of matchstick jeans and 2 pair of matchstick cords that I purchased at J.Crew last year on sale and think they really look best when worn with boots or perhaps with a tunic.

  19. I have purchased a pair in the black rinse and they look great, but I'm only 5'2" so they are not really "ankle" lenght on me. By the way, they are currently $49.99 in store.

On the ruffle jacket I'm with you Alexis, I have tried it and I'm not sure if I like it or not. Not for the price anyway.

  20. Erm, I might be more convinced that we can all do skinny if they actually pictured a model who was not a toothpick in the Toothpick Jeans!

  21. If only this was true. I've tried on those toothpick jeans, and unfortunately they make me look like a pork sausage. I have a tiny waist but huge thighs for my frame & size, so those are tight in all the wrong places. (the hips on a 0P or 24 ankle fits me perfectly, but the waist would need to be taken in by 2 inches...and I can barely force my legs to fit...I'd need a 4P to have room for my thighs). Any suggestions for brands/styles that might fit? (J.Crew or otherwise). I'm also short (5'2), so I need petite sizes, or a style that's easy to hem (aka, straight-ish).

  22. Kat: Have you tried the new GAP jeans? You can order the ankle length on-line. With these jeans you have to size down since they stretch out a size.
