Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available in the Summer / Fall sale, or to see some new Fall arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. The J.Crew in El Segundo, CA. has a pretty good sale on ties right now! I got a tie for $10! They had one for $15 that I saw full priced at another store for over $50!

  2. I stopped in yesterday morning to make a couple of returns. The sale section had the navy Eden blazers, Brulee' tanks in charcoal and slate, a handful of Doggie tees, scout chinos, a couple boyfriend military jackets, among the other usual suspects. I didn't find anything in the store, but did place an order from the red phone for the Strada cardigan because I want to see it IRL and the B&M didn't get it, unfortunately.

  3. The silk tiered cami is $49.99 at tysons and georgetown. You can email your PS and order the color and size you need, they will pricematch as it is still $88 on the website! Mine are on their way!!! :)

  4. FYI - Michelle Obama was seen wearing the shirred deco skirt during a recent visit to the Department of Veterans' Affairs:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/20/michelle-obama-revisits-f_n_327560.html

I wonder if it will sell out now.

  5. I like that skirt, but after trying on the shirred skirts, I wonder if they made one for her.

That skirt was way too short for work even on my smallish 5'4" frame.

The outfit looks great, but I wish I could see how long it is on her.

  7. FFM- i just got the strada cardigan and was pretty disappointed. the ruffles just lay flat and lifeless. the buttons are cheap looking/ hard to button/unbutton. the print is pretty cute and in terms of sizing this sweater runs a tad snug. i have an irl on my blog. hth!

  8. I went last night and picked up a few things, like the evie top and cascade ruffle jacket. They are definitely not stocking more that one of each size in the pricier items. My sale section was pretty slim, mostly just necklace tees, satin trim tees, dog tees, black jeans, and a few edens in navy.

  10. Hi all, happy Friday.

Can anyone who has tried both comment on the differences between the Glenbrae or Nottingham boots? Which do you like better? Wondering whether to find Glenbrae on ebay or save for Nottinghams.

    Thanks in advance!

  11. Ashley,
Great post and pictures. You are right about the Strada too. It was a return for me as well. There will be other great sweaters...now, maybe if it went to $29.99 I would get it:) LOL. as if!

  12. Hi, this is OTT but hope someone can help me. I have been offered a gramercy coat in size 2. I am usually a P0 or 0. Could a 2 work for me? how is the sizing of those coats? The measurements seem to be 1 or inch larger/wider than my 0 coats. I was hoping that since the old JCrew sizes were smaller this could fit. I would really appreciate your toughts on this.

  13. I have suspected for a long time now that ALL of Mrs. O's J.Crew items are specially made for her. She is a tall and not so petite lady and it stretches the imagination to think all the pencil skirts she wears are off-the-rack J. Crew. The deco skirt in the photo definitely looks longer on her. I couldn't see her wearing a mini for an official event and those decos in the store are definitely minis! I think we have to face it that Mrs. O. gets her clothes specially fitted and tailored for her curvy lady proportions. Good for her, though. Nice advantage to being the First Lady and I'm sure J. Crew will do WHATEVER they have to to make her happy and her JC items look good on her!!

  14. I have an Alpine Green Gramercy and think it runs true to size. Mine is a 6, and as much as I love it, I really do need the 4, which is the size every other J Crew jacket and coat I have is.

Slastena has a black one in a 4. If she is around, perhaps she can chime in or you can ask over at her blog.

    HTHs

  15. anngav,
I am sure you are right on the money...no way is she wearing OTR

    ReplyDelete
  16. anngav & Genny - or could we ask for the sizes, if they're off the rack, from the WH or JCrew PR? lol.

Otherwise please they'd call a spade a spade, ie, a custom made piece.

  18. I've been looking at Banana Republic and Ann Taylor, because I keep hearing they're offering much better deals, but I simply cannot find anything I like—all they have are black coats and basic suiting! J. Crew is miles above its closest competitors in terms of design. It's not just BR and AT either, I feel like every single store other than J Crew has the exact same, extremely boring color palette, and same selection of items. They need to get more inventive or I will keep buying J. Crew despite the higher prices.

Do you guys feel the same way? Literally can't find anything you like anywhere but JC? So annoying, because JC has no incentive to drop prices.

  19. "Do you guys feel the same way? Literally can't find anything you like anywhere but JC? So annoying, because JC has no incentive to drop prices."

I don't feel that way at all. In the last couple months, I purhased a tie neck silk blouse in pink tones, dark jeans, a silk plaid skirt and jeweled flats from Banana. Ann Taylor has been a great resource for silk camis and merino sweaters in cabernet, mineral blue and silver tones. I am waiting for my last Ann Taylor order of a pair of embellished black kitten heels, pink rose printed cami, boysenberry tie neck blouse and a darling merino sweater with a jeweled collar embellishment that is probably going to top off dark jeans or trousers for some early casual holiday parties.

I love the gray and plum pencil skirts I purchased from J Crew, adore the Francis shirts and I am eagerly awaiting my colored marzipan cardis and printed Evie tops that I ordered yesterday, but I have bought much more from the other stores than from JC. And so far the pieces have been 1/3 to 1/2 the price of my few JC purchases. And the best part, nothing has arrive damaged and most of it has fit perfectly in my usual sizes.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hmm. I'm glad you've had luck with them, but even using AT's shop by color feature I can't find any nice bright colors like JC has right now. And literally all of their outerwear is black, gray, or navy. I just want cheerful colors for winter!

    ReplyDelete
  21. kitsmommy,
I agree with you. I have never bought anything at AT Loft nor been in one before (I always just shopped JC). Well, I went in a couple of weeks ago and really liked what I saw and I bought and bought at MUCH cheaper prices. The best deal was a beautiful fall finely woven wool scarf in a great fall shade for $9.99 down from $35. I have worn the scarf so many times and love it.

  23. Fiona,

I think the best things about J Crew are the coats and jackets. I also feel they are good quality and fairly priced compared to a lot of the items J Crew sells. Personally, I will pay $300 for a coat long before I will spend $200 for a cashmere sweater I know will pill on the first wearing.

Last year BR put out some bright outerwear (Red, Violet, etc) right before the holidays, but they do usually carry neutrals and that is all I ever see at AT. But to be fair, most everybody I know outside from my online friends would not even consider my bright coats for themselves even though they like them on me...

  24. OT - Ann Taylor is offering 40% off one full priced item today through Sunday, with code Private40, also, FS over $150.

Here is the link for the in-store coupon:

  25. Fiona, I hear you. I like AT and BR for basics; I think that AT's quality is very high (BR for me hasn't been that great quality-wise); and I love the incentives both offer. And yet . . . nothing really excites me when I go into either stores. I might buy a staple here or there--and I do love those jeweled flats BR is carrying right now--but for me, JCrew just offers more interesting pieces overall. I suppose that's why I'm a JCA, lol.

  26. I know this is online, but all that's left is a 0 or a 6. :( If anyone has the printed antique ruffle top in a 2 http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Shop_By_Category/shirtstops/camisblouses/PRDOVR~17338/17338.jsp and they don't want it, I would be happy to purchase it from you.

  28. stopped by my b&m and not all cords are on sale--just the ones that have been on sale site (the ones that end in .99). all other cords are regular priced but have the $10 off promotion.

mommydearest, i'm wearing the blazer-like sweater right now! i'll also share IRL pics on my blog this weekend :)

  29. tres tippy-That is what I found with the cords too. Can't wait for aubergine to go on sale :)

SO excited to see your IRL pics! I didn't have a chance to try the sweaters on so I really want to see what they're like on you. MUST have the skirt and maybe both sweaters.... ;)

  30. Just got back from the B&M (Albany NY) - they were marking down these cute stone bead and ribbon necklaces to $19.99 - I picked up a smoky grey and a blush pink one, along with the destroyed boyfriend chinos for $19.99, and the really cute beaded city tee cardigan in heather grey (adorable! Saw it on the lovely Ms. Patina).

I was really interested in seeing the Alpaca long shawl cardigan (20236) IRL. Loved the style, color (fawn), and length, but for $98 it was really thin, like see-through when held up to the light. I was bummed! It also looked a bit shopworn. I don't know if I would even consider that one on sale unless it went *way* down (like, $19.99).

After JC I made my way over to AT where they were having a great sale - select pieces (a LOT of them) were $39.50! I got a long dark grey merino cardigan (originally $90) and crimson merino V-neck (originally $70) for $39.50 apiece. Wow! The merino was thick and springy, and the colors deep and saturated. Those of you that are tired of JC's pastel palette may want to give AT a peek.

  31. Drat, just got back from a trip to the mall and those ribbon and bead necklaces weren't marked down, at least that I saw. I've been enjoying visiting them, too, so I hope I can snag one on sale. Grabbed a few goodies for DH on the cheap, summer chinos for $12.99. He goes to New Orleans often, so they'll be great for that. I didn't see much that wasn't already on sale on the website, but I did get a Japanese ringspun henley for ten bucks, which is just about how much it's worth. I love the feel and look of the fabric but I have to baby the heck out of it to not get snags. There were some cute wintry things out, cozy scarves and gloves, and I saw the cutest striped merino sweater with buttons on the wrists and back of the neck. When I got home I paged through the catalog, and there it was on page 64 of the Nov. catalog. Hidden under layers of ugh! It's being worn under the Collier (VERY cute in person) with the dreaded silk lounge/Hammer/Dynasty pants. And a trapper hat, some bracelets and a watch, uncombed hair, and a partridge in a pear tree. Why, JC, why?

Completely OT: Any JCAs with toddlers in the "why" stage may want to steer clear of Victoria's Secret for the time being. I found it difficult to explain why Santa was bra clad with no presents and "soso much wipstick like a lady."

  32. ^LOL-that's hilarious and ADOR-ABLE:)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Fiona - the two ATs in my area don't have nearly the cute things that are on the website. Like you said, basic, boring stuff. But, I can't wait for the leopard flats to go on sale!

BTW, the Gap has some great sweaters right now. I got a beautiful purple merino cardigan and a beige/coral stripped pullover.

  34. Just picked up the boyfriend fatigue jacket 199185 at my local B&M.

Good thing I tried it on, rather than catalogue-ordered. Heads up! It runs large. I always wear a 10 jacket. They didn't have a 10, so I tried on an 8--perfect fit! Jacket's incredible, tons of pockets, looks wonderful belted or with silk/ruffled/cashmere underneath, and pearls. My new favorite.

  36. Went to King of Prussia today. Interesting new stuff like the city cardi with sequins and a knit version of the silk pleated posy top. All cashere crew and vneck sweaters were on sale for $99, but they were not marked with signage. one of the SA's told me about it. The colors are so great. Also had ribbed cashmere hats in a lot of colors. Heels were 20% off. Sale section was pretty full. Next shipments are due Nov 2nd, and the SA says they will be getting the cashmere henley. They had one Pointelle sweater in twilight sz large left.

Crewcuts had the dark blue ballet dancer tees back in stock for those of you stalking that one. They had the sunburst tee in purple only, soooo cute in person. No giraffe or doggie tees. No layered cake skirts yet or new jewelry. The Playground Puffer coat is so very very cute. Some new boys stuff but not much, love the graphic tees and Purcell sneaks.

  37. I don't think Michelle Obama is particularly curvy (just regular women sized)and would not need special sizing for her curves. If she's larger than a 10-12, I'd be surprised. At 5'11", she probably does get some lengthening on skirts that do not come in Tall sizing. She most likely has a personal shopper that knows her preferences/proportions and they have in-house tailoring for her. Similar service that we have with our PS's, but with a few more perks!

    ReplyDelete
  38. does anyone know if the "Always Cardigan" is in stores yet? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  39. OT: has anyone tried on the silk streamers cami IRL? I would love to hear any comments.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm 5'11 and about a 10 or 12 in J.Crew I would also guess that Michelle Obama is somewhere around that size. I think that she looks amazing in J.Crew and I love her sense of style.
Here is my experience with J.Crew skirt lengths: Pencil skirts tend to be 24 1/2" long and hit a few inches above the knee. J.Crew's 22 1/2" length skirts are as mini as I would go before the lack of fabric would become an issue when seated. The shirred deco skirt is 18" long so you can imagine how short that would be on Mrs. Obama. I'm sure that J.Crew was happy to add a few inches in length for our stunning First Lady.
The abstract rose (fall 08") skirt was very long (and a similar feel to the shirred deco print) and I'm glad that I got it because there is nothing yet this season for us tall girls at J.Crew besides pencil skirts. Perhaps Michelle can put a word in for us!

  41. Was at my B&M yesterday to make some returns. Lots of destroyed boyfriend chinos, other than that sale section was picked over, saw captain shirts, painter t-shirts, chiffon placket cardigan, etc. Even the SA was saying how they wish they had more sale section.

  42. Did anyone happen to see any tiered ruffle silk cami's in a size 8 or 10 at their local B&M? I am looking for the toffee, antique stone, or deep aubergine color at the in-store *SALE* prices! TIA for any help! :)

  43. I am looking for for the doggie tee in a medium. I followed all the leads last weekend to no success. If some picks up an extra one, I will gladly pay immediately with Paypal for the tee. Also the fleur de leis tee in a medium and the silk tiered cami in a 6 in papaya is on my wish list. Thanks Bunches. Itsmelealee@gmail.com

  45. Hi Hexicon - I received the silk streamers cami in soft blossom (the light pink color). It was very thin and see-through, with one of those dreaded side zippers that always seems a bit too long on my short torso, causing the zipper to bulge out and making the top look strange whether tucked in or left out (I would consider it to be TTS, though, and less boxy than the Farrow ribbon top).

The "streamers" were raw-edged and not tucked in at the top or bottom of the top, and they stuck out kind of haphazardly of the neckline of the top that I received. I did like the idea of the little self-belt that came with the top, and thought that it would look cute under cardigans and jackets, but not at full price.

I returned it because I didn't feel that the quality warranted the $78 price tag. It seems to be that most of those $78-$88 tops go down to $19.99 so if it goes that low I may reconsider, just to wear it under a sweater. HTH!

  46. Moira - the Printed antique-ruffle top is available in a size 2 online.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Sorry- I forgot to subscribe! :-P

  48. Silver Lining, thank you for the detailed review! The dijon color in that top would fill in a gap in my wardrobe, and I too liked the self-belt, but I remember being disappointed at last year's flimsy Joelle silk tops and it sounds like this is not worth it at FP. (My bank account thanks you too.)

  50. OT, but can anyone comment on the fit of the cashmere shawl popover sweater? I'm wondering if it's baggy or more fitted (since I'm starting to get sized out by some of the XS sweaters).
    Thanks!

  51. K Mel, I tried on the popover and found my regular Small to be perfect to wear over shirts, but would have sized down if I wanted to wear it solo. If you're planning to layer, the XS should be fine. HTH!

  53. MMM, i can't remember if the colors you're looking for were those on hand, but i recall seeing a number of tiered silk camis at the Reston, VA store.

  54. Westfield Shopping Center in SF had two styles of headbands for 4.99 each. Silver leather with small bow and pink silk with large rose/flower styles. Lots of matchstick cords for 29.99 and cashmere sweaters for 99.99

  55. Thanks for the heads-up Cleo26! I really appreciate it!! ;)

  56. GoldCoastGal - You might also try Pleasanton or Walnut Creek if you haven't found the doggie tee yet. I know I saw as tack at Pleasanton. They were folded and on a low shelf, almost tucked away. But folded w/all the other embellished tees at the front left of the store.

    Cheesy Goodness - *lol*

MMM & Debra - Try Walnut Creek for the silk tiered cami. I was in there yesterday and they had finally marked all of the colors down. California time (925) 943-7664

  60. Bought a Crewcuts Colette dress in a sort of corally pink on sale for my friend's daughter, who turned 4, on Thursday at the Mission Viejo, CA brick and mortar. Since I was focused on the child's gift, I paid little attention to the sale selection in women's.

  62. went to outlet also and to add to above comments:
they had wool version of last yrs cashmere henley (with dark buttons) and shawl collar sweater both 69 plus 30% off. the colors were good but the fabric seemed cheap to me. they also had a wool version of last yrs cashmere argyle vneck in navy, dark charcoal, and snow. I bought the navy and charcoal ones. I bought the cashmere version last yr but had to return it when I noticed HUGE hole in the shoulder (before ever wearing)I have pined for it ever since, so I was happy to see these! they 69 plus 20% off,I think.
