Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Happy Friday, JCAs. Eeps posted yesterday on JC's failed 2018 launch and I didn't want it to get lost. Read here: https://fashionista.com/2019/03/j-crew-revenue-profits-2018

    1. At least they’re making changes. That’s all I’m thinking...aside from seeking out decent quality alternatives for my “bread and butter” after stocking up on enough coats, blazers and ankle boots to hopefully last this lifetime.

    2. The article doesn’t mention it, but I wish they could make a change that would make the Canadian market viable for them as Gap/BR have done. Perhaps the Canadian market is too small for them to bother with anymore. As I write this, I’m on my way to Toronto and would normally be looking forward to visiting their Eaton’s Centre store, but that closed a few months ago. Shipping charges to Canada are high, and return charges even higher. Free shipping is a sweet memory from the past. Canadians can’t join the loyalty program, and while I wouldn’t expect the unlimited free shipping that US customers enjoy, it would be nice to at least get it on larger orders. In addition, Canadian customers can’t *ever* stack discount codes. So my money is going to Banana Republic these days. They keep putting out great, versatile dresses (unfortunately nothing notable in their print dept in quite awhile), fairly priced merino pieces, and while their Sloan pants aren’t as nice as my Maddies, they’re close enough and more importantly, *available* (Maddies seem to have been discontinued?), AND I get free shipping over $50, and free returns. I honestly feel like J.Crew doesn’t really want my business.

    3. I saw on reddit that they've rebranded "Mercantile" as "Essential" - and confirmed on the jcrew site - just take a look at item J7972. Sounds like their same old tricks!

      Delete
    4. Oh brother, no wonder they’re losing money! The constant branding-rebranding merry-go-round, all of the meetings, and time and effort devoted to the tag on a t-shirt, rather than putting some thought into actual *design*. The only two labels that are needed are J.Crew and J.Crew Collection, I know if a T-shirt is essential or not, I don’t need the tag to tell me.

      Delete
    5. Shopgrrrl, I agree. Branding/rebranding has become an obsession at J. Crew. They’ve been applying this nonsense to menswear as well, trying to disguise the visible lack of creativity, and a palpable quality decline - I miss Frank Muytjens. *sighs*

    6. I think J.Crew will close all Canadian stores in the not-too-distant future. They really do not seem to make any effort in terms of their Canadian business. On top of the expensive shipping and returns, the stock in stores is fairly small. I had a gift card but could not find anything in store so was going to use it online and eat the $12 shipping cost. But then I found out you can’t use a Canadian gift card on the website. But the back of the gift card said you could use it by phone. The website lists a non-toll-free number for Canadians so I called in and was on hold for 20 minutes at my own cost. I finally hung up and emailed them and they sent me a toll free number two days later. When I called that, the sales rep said that I could not use a Canadian gift card over the phone either. When I pointed out the back of the gift card clearly said you could order by phone, she only offered to transfer the gift card amount onto my credit card. So I agreed to that but I missed out on some good sale items a few weeks ago. Sigh, makes you wonder why J.Crew ever ventured into the Canadian market. There are plenty of US retailers who have done well in Canada for years - everything from BR/Gap/Old Navy to Costco.

      Delete
    7. Thanks for sharing! It also didn't help that they had a spectacular failure of all things technology related just at the start of the holiday season. People aren't going to buy if the website fails or the items won't arrive. You can't do a relaunch without equipping the support structure to sustain the expected increases. That seems to be a major failure in the organization.

      Delete
    8. Good point, Teri - all through December social media was blowing up with people trying to cancel their orders or saying they'd be returning as soon as they arrived because they had to buy elsewhere. That can't help their "unsold inventory" problems.

      Delete
    9. @shortstack - I think you’re right. I think they will slowly back out of the Canadian market. It really does seem like they treat that market as an afterthought, and I have not read anything indicating they plan to strengthen their hold in Canada or do anything for Canadian customers. I think the exemptions for Canadians are ridiculous - if I were a Canadian customer I would not stick around. The shipping/returns fees and ship times alone make it not worthwhile to shop at JC.

  2. I think I've discovered the secret to applying the two discount codes for some really great prices on full priced items. You have to go to check out before you enter any codes and then enter cardlove, if you are using a Jcrew card, to get the 30% plus 20% and then enter the retailmenot code (dbc256517209194) for an additional 15% off.

    1. Thanks for the tip for getting all 3 codes! Ends up being over 50% off!

      Delete
    2. how did you get all three codes to work. I only managed two codes

      Delete
    3. Thanks! I decided to order several things to try with the codes. It was about $1000 worth of stuff for $400.

      Delete
    4. @Sunny - It's just two codes, but putting in cardlove automatically applies the 30%+10% newnew discount. So cardlove + retailmenot code gives all 3.

      Delete
    5. Debby - thank you so much! I added a $10 reward to the 2 codes! Saved $75!

    6. Holy cow! Thanks for figuring that out!

I just kinda wish there was more I wanted to buy! Ha!

  3. What stopping me from buying items from the new collection is the luck of reviews. I'm liking linen pencil skirt+limoncello tee outfit combo and the faux-wrap dress in Liberty. No reviews for any of it. The closest store is 45 min drive so I visit only once in a while. Hoping to be there next weekend and try on whatever 'survives' this weekend.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I feel the same way re: lack of reviews. My nearest store is 1.5 hours away, so I don’t take chances the way I used to when I could return to a store and/or browse new arrivals 10 minutes from home. I wonder how much that’s hurting their bottom line?

      Delete
    2. I'm curious about this as well. I spent way too much in return shipping fees last year and haven't been ordering this year. I wish that return shipping was included in the loyalty program, especially since they've closed so many stores. I'd be willing to deal with a higher minimum for free shipping to get free returns (although Madewell Insider has both so they're able to make it work somehow).

  5. No visit planned. Thanks for the heads up on the stacked codes...I am trying the Point Sur Shoreditch straight jean in bright worn wash and the black Ella long sweater blazer. I'm hoping this holds up better than the shorter sweater blazer - has anyone tried this?

I also have a pair of Madewell slim straight jeans in Hammond wash on their way to me - now that we can wear jeans to work I'm looking for some straight jeans that aren't destructed. I have plenty of toothpicks that I like that don't have any holes, etc. but it would be nice to have a few straight leg ones and most of my vintage straight pairs are distressed in some fashion.

  6. With the stacked codes, I ordered a few things from the new rollout. I’m most excited by (yet wary of) the Point Sur midi dress in copper ikat, which brings together such beautiful colors but with so many different decorative flourishes that it raises a red flag (ruffled cap sleeves! Pompon trim! Tasseled tie waist! Tiered/ruffled/trimmed skirt!). I’m almost certain it will be a hot mess I can’t remove fast enough (or never take out of the plastic shipping bag), but at nearly half off, hope springs eternal.

  7. There are “eternal” JC classics. The items JC has chosen to “re-issue” are not generally the ones I would choose, and I would certainly not choose to call an overpriced under-tailored polyester rag a “classic”, at least while I have the resources to sleep under a roof at night. JC is willfully ignorant: you already own the patterns, the list of findings, the fabric specs. You don’t need “collaborations” or “guest designers.” At today’s costs, you may not be able to price something at $400 to mark it down to it to $248 and sell it at $73. But if you introduce, say, The Return of the Bella as a Limited Edition, and are true to the concept of the Bella and of Limited Edition, you may not have to take an axe to the pricetags. And your design and concept costs will be — hey, you already own the design. Also, JC once had “immortals” that were never marked down, or if they were, it was in an annual blowout at 25% off in late January. Lookin’ at you, hammered luxe silk tank.

    1. I'm really finding these collaborations in retail to be a bit of a turn-off, particularly when bloggers or "Influencers" get involved. JC hasn't brought bloggers in yet, but Nordstrom's is about to feature another blogger and her ugly prairie dresses made in China. Cracks me up but I also find it rather sad because I once enjoyed shopping at Nordies. (At least the Blair Edie collaboration had some fun things.)

The quality of JC clothing has taken a nose dive as many have discussed. For the most part, I really dislike the fiber blends retail seems to be using these days.

  8. I received a pair of tan suede mules from the last sale on sale. I'd sized up 1/2 size, and think that was a good idea. They fit fine and will be good for work this summer.

I also received the Officer pants in 2Tall. They are fitted on my hips, but not tight. I think the 4 would be too large. The only issue is the length - the regular length would have been flats only, but the Tall could be 1/2 inch shorter with heels. At first my husband didn't like them, but then he changed his mind. I'm still not totally sold...but they do work well with a burgundy or leopard print top.

Also received a pop-back of the Striped tie-waist top G4004 which is going back. Too difficult and is not fitted well for me.

  9. Today I received cashmere wide striped throw in navy (80% off with last sale) and I’m really happy with it. It’s really soft and the quality is quite good. I was hoping to use for travel and it will work perfectly. Agree with the favorable reviews.

  10. And it will be a rare relic of J. Crew's 1 season venture into home goods. I thought they looked pretty nice too, but none of the colors were right for my house.

  11. I stopped by to return a pair of too big jeans for husband and the deconstructed red blazer. Thanks To Debby above I had ordered the Point Sur wide leg crops in tall in black and white, and also the white slingbacks. This is after spending more than double on Everlane wide leg crops and bone day heels, so I want to compare.

Oddly my store didn’t have the black wide leg crops though the sales associate offered navy instead. Then made another suggestion and was surprised when i told her it was a pair of pants I had already tried in another color and didn’t like. I like when assoc know their stuff and realize I do to. I don’t like when someone tries to sell me something I don’t want. This is not the first time this same assoc has done this and sad to say I don’t like the approach. Rant over.

Anyway, I did try the white Point Sur wide leg crops in store and they’re a hot mess on me. Where they hit on my waist (hip actually) and the width of the leg makes me look like a long rectangle. Just bad. So even though I paid a great price for the tall online I know they’re going back, unless somehow the rise is two inches longer.

I also stopped in at Madewell where I decided to try the Emmett, which in store was only available in a multicolor check, pale pink and pistachio green. I think the old version, the Langford, was a little more flattering but it may also be the color I tried. Emmett is slightly more flatttering than it’s Jcrew cousin, at least on me.

    I left empty handed.

Perhaps I just don’t like such a stiff fabric in a wide leg crop.

OT but I also made some returns at Nordstrom rack and didn’t see anything even worth trying on. They did have a rack of jeans which included Madewell but they were $60-70 so not a great bargain. I find a lot of what is in this store clothing wise is more lower quality junior brands and the nicer items maybe are online returns. (Just a guess.)

    1. Forgot to mention I also got my tan mules. Mine actually appear to almost be stretched out in the vamp. They’re not too big but loose all around and I don’t have narrow feet. Not sure it’s worth trying to exchange, if I find I don’t reach for them I have two daughters with wider feet that might like them.

Men’s jeans on sale run pretty large but are nice quality considering they were on sale for under $25 (with the 50 off as of March 10)

      Delete
    2. Hmmm, someone made a comment like that - maybe in reviews. I have a very high volume mid foot, so a large volume in the vamp works for me. I have the same mules in snake in my regular size, and they fit too.

Were the Point Sur crops the white denim J1896 or the natural pants J0919? I was hoping the white denim fit like J3705 (which I think you have and let down the hem). I have the blue denim J3705 in a 27T (they seem to run small) and like them. I tried the pants in 26T and sent them back since my big thighs looked terrible. I did not try the next size.

      Delete
    3. Wow, you know what, I’m not sure. They were right next to the colored pants so I didn’t even think they might have been the denim but they were seemingly white and not natural. The fit is similar to the jeans we both got, but the length, stiffness and weight of re material just made me dislike them. It seems like the proportions and measurements are the same whether they’re the denim or the pants. I guess I’ll see when they come in.

      Delete
    4. Hi Suz and P, I purchased a pair of the white denim as well as the regular natural color. I like the natural color and fit far better than the white denim which ran small on me, were too stiff, far too wide and made a lot of whooshing noise. Perhaps it's just me. I do like the natural color though, fit is perfect for me as I am long legged and the pants fall exactly where I want them to be.

      Delete
    5. Hi lynn, thanks for the feedback. I’m thinking the ones I tried must have been denim. Maybe they didn’t even have the natural in store.
Did you order tall or regular? Regular is a 24 inseam which I don’t love, I prefer the tall 26” inseam for more of a just above ankle length.
Hopefully the non denim will work better...I’ve already accepted the fact that I may not get a new pair of pants this season if not. Thank goodness for pretty shoes and accessories.

      Delete
  12. Hi Suz, I have the tall and it falls just above the ankle for me. I did try the regular they appeared too short for my particular taste, more like culottes which I detest. Would like to note they do stretch as well. Once laundered they’re fine. There seems to be some type of flaw or defect with the fabrication, states my VPS, but I purchased them for a cheap price and decided to keep them.anyway. This is my take, hope it’s not too confusing.

  13. New sale promo today. I picked up the botanical sheath dress to try and a girls cashmere popover in size 16. Also asked for a PA from an order made earlier this week despite lack of promo (saw a mystery popback and couldn’t help myself. Can’t wait to see what arrives). The Retailmenot code works with SALETIME.

    1. @eeps, I considered that one, but I recently ordered the leopard sheath. It seemed t0o big, but I have a 4 on the way.

And I just got off the phone and had the cashmere fair isle adjusted to $25. I think it will be a it large, but maybe I will find a popback in a smaller size to exchange. Or embrace the oversize look? I had ordered it hoping that there would be a % off sale sale, and it worked.

Interested to hear about the mystery. I saw something like that, but I was able to get a picture somehow. I think I clicked around on the image area, or maybe I just looked up the item #.

    2. I’m suspicious of the fabric - JC jacquard and I don’t mix well usually but I love the mayapple print. I went with my larger JC dress size thinking it will not stretch.
The mystery isn’t so much what the online product description says as much as what actually arrives. Theres been a few cases where the online description of the popback shows one thing, and I was sent an entirely different item, in a different size and color than was listed online. I’m treating these popbacks like surprise goody bags.

  14. Off topic but I have a question! I bought a pair of ted baker london leather flats - pointy toe. My regular size -6- felt comfy in the toe but loose in the heel, I ordered a half a size down, and it fits like a glove. Not comfy yet but I feel they will be if I break them in. These are not cheap shoes, however - I have to return one pair - and I am trying to figure out which to keep. I'm worried that keeping the larger size will cause foot problems by being too loose.

I'm a little scarred by the last pair of J Crew made in italy shoes I bought - they feel impossible to break in. Maybe because they were fabric upper? They were these:

    1. Too small shoes cause foot problems more than too large.

I'd try adding a forefoot insole to the larger pair and see if that moves your foot back enough to solve the problem.

    2. I'm actually skeptical that any of the recent "Made in Italy"shoes are made in Italy. Even the product description on the page you linked now just says "Import". Does it actually say made in Italy anywhere on the shoe? The shoes with the zigzag cut on the insole lining are a clue to me that the shoe will be stiff and inflexible and uncomfortable. Sorry that doesn't help with the question of the Ted Baker shoes, other than to suggest maybe it's just a J. Crew quality problem?

      Delete
    3. IDK but this J.Crew "made in Italy" shoe" shoe is not getting easier to wear. It fits, but it is very painful in the toe and it is not stretching. I've worn it at work and I can't walk in it. I have tried them out about 7 times, wearing them about 1-2 hours each. Weirdly, they felt OK in the store. I almost want to return them but they cost $14.

  20. Can someone explain the system to me?

I saw an item at 3 in the morning (don't ask...) when the 50% sale posted along with new items. There was one item in particular that was marked down to $22, which became a ridiculous $11 once the sale kicked in. It was showing 9+ available, so I put it in my cart an proceeded to peruse the rest of the sale items. Fast forward 15 minutes: the item was sold out when I went to pay. With free shipping on everything, I don't know why I didn't just buy it right off. Oh well--live & learn.

So on a whim, I called into a store a few minutes ago to inquire about availability of the aforementioned item. She told me it's an online-only item, but her computer was showing a few available "in direct," with 3 in one color and 1 in another: she advised that I call the 800 number to make the purchase. Connecting with CS seconds later, the phone rep told me no; there is 0 availability showing, and she had no idea why the store clerk told me differently.

On a whim, I called the 800 back again and spoke with someone else. "I am showing one available in the 'multi' color. May I help you place the order?" Order placed. Called back a 3rd time just out of curiosity, and I was told the item is completely sold out.

So what gives? How does it go from 4 available to 0 to 1 to 0 within a span of @4 minutes on an online-only item that is showing SOLD OUT online?

  22. Today's arrival;

Mockneck Fair Isle cashmere sweater K3161 in Navy/Peony. As mentioned before, this was price adjusted today to $25. I am a small, and the reviews said this sweater runs large. Unfortunately there were no smalls available, and I feared a too-tight xsmall, so I ordered a medium. Though I'm not a fan of much JCrew cashmere, this sweater is ok - and for the price I paid it is great. It is definitely oversize, but is long as well as wide, and drapes fairly well. It works on me as a short tunic, coming below my hips and (nearly) covering my backside. Since winter is over, I won't wear it and will be able to return if a small shows up. Come next winter I will wear it over skinny pants or even my navy pencil skirt. If I decide the size does not work, it will be a great lounging sweater. Or a nice gift for my sister in law.

  23. OT. my Everlane OrDer came today. I ordered the NEW wide leg chino that has a clean look, and to compare, the wide leg crop that came out last year which is a heavier cotton with stretch.
Where the Jcrew Point Sur wide leg crop and the current Madewell Emmett pants fall short for me, these are literally perfection,
I ordered two sizes just in case, a 0 and 2. If I wanted a more fitted look I could probably get away with the 00 but the 0 in both is so flattering. Even though I got both in black I’m almost tempted to keep them.
I also tried the day heel in leather in bone, with the stacked heel. Not sure they’re worth it for me but I like the look and my smaller size fits well, almost a tiny bit loose,
I will post some pics on IG @wearthislikethis

    2. More info. The wide leg crop pant , the one with the pockets, feels a bit more casual. I would compare the fabric to some of the Jcrew black denim that’s really not denim, just a heavier cotton with some stretch(but not so much that it feeels like leggings).

The other ones can be dressed up a little more easily because the fabric is a bit softer and lighter, perfect for warmer weather with a button down or tee. But doesn’t look bad with a sweater.

Colors are limited and they release new colors each season I think, I am having a hard time deciding if I should keep both anyway, only because they look so good and I know its not always easy to find well fitting pants.

  24. Just received the ikat cotton dress. Probably headed back. The buttons down the bust are not close enough together so there are lots of peeks all the way down. What a disappointment. Maybe I can have my tailor sew a modesty panel into it. Just not sure it’s worth it. Ugh. (It also runs big so size down. I would definitely need to exchange).

  26. To all the exceptional, kind hearted, thoughtful, insightful, inspirational here, I don’t know if I posted on another thread but the Houston Store Jcrew group deserves a shoutout. I ordered (over the phone) the silk Jungle Print Blouse Pink/Navy they gave me 30%off, another 20% free expedited shipping. This is the 3rd order I have placed. Wonderful! The blouse came down to $52.00 plus change. They are delightful, know their merchandise and are gracious. My VPS couldn’t even do this, however with the store promo they were able to. Their phone number is 713-827-1743. Told me the blouse is far more beautiful in person than online. Who can resist. Ina’s store crew is fabulous too, again very helpful but I have never ordered anything. Hope this helps. Hope Tango doesn’t get finicky around that “fat cat” when it arrives:)

  28. The password situation is driving me crazy. Ever since I was prompted to change my pw the system keeps saying my pw isn’t working. I’ve changed it 4 times now but each time I change it to the same pw I’ve been using all along. Each time I try to log in after I change it, I’m told it’s wrong. This is basic cyber security and account management, and they can’t get it right! Is this happening to anyone else where you’re having to reset your password every time you log in? **ive been clearing my cache/cookies each time to make sure it’s not my browser

  30. Thanks! I know it’s probably going to be a zoo, but I’m willing to put up with it if it helps hubby cross off a bucket list item :-) So sorry to hear yours has pneumonia. When I had it years ago, antibiotics and bunch of mucinex got me back in action a lot faster than I expected. Hope he recovers quickly, that you don’t catch it, and that you both can sleep peacefully!

  32. This is mildly OT, but I feel like a missing part of the equation is color. I adore Liberty prints as much as most of you, but J. Crew can't fill in the gaps just by issuing more of them. I really miss seeing distinctive, gorgeous solid colors that span the rainbow. I'm not saying that each item needs to be available in 10 colors or anything like that. But when something's listed in black, white and navy (for example) I'm wondering why there isn't at least one bright color. Moreso in spring and summer.

    1. I would love to see more color too. I used to count on J crew for gorgeous colors I couldn't find at other retailers. Bright spring colors seem to be gone from many other stores as well??

  33. Pleased to report that I had a lovely J Crew experience today! I went to my local store (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) to return the cobalt tweed dress and lady jacket. (Although I really liked them, I like the white multi tweed version even better, and was hoping to exchange them.) The store was bustling, and there was a line for the dressing rooms (a rarity recently - I have been seeing longer lines for returns than try-ons on my last few visits).

There were lots of winners among the new arrivals. The double breasted trench dress in linen was a sleeper hit - I tried it on, and had several other customers ask me about it - very flattering and versatile, can see wearing this to work and on the weekends. But I held off on buying it because it won't be sleeveless dress weather for a couple more months.

The white multi tweed dress was lovely too - the fabric was beautiful. The only negative is that it has an hourglass shape that sticks out from my body (I have zero hips - probably would have worked well on a regular human female). I will likely order the pencil skirt and Lady jacket in this tweed when they go on promotion.

The jungle print silk twill shirt and tie-waist pants proved irresistible. How many tiger print silk shirts does one lady need? The answer is 3. I already have the blue and red tiger print shirt from 2018, and the green jungle cat twill from the recent sale, but I really loved the matching pants on this one, so I left with the set. It works as a pretend jumpsuit, but both the top and bottom were great as separates too. Unfortunately, they were excluded from the store promo because they are collection items. I may try to sell one of my other silk tiger shirts on Poshmark, but strangely I am ok having all 3 of them. The colors are different enough that they fill distinct outfit niches.

The store was giving out eco-friendly reusable metal straws for purchases, which I thought was a nice touch!

    1. That's great, hope JCrew can have a good Spring. I understand about the tiger shirts, but I am being strong. I have the green silk blouse and pants. It's a lovely outfit, but one is enough for me. You make we want to try on the linen dress.

    2. @EllieB, This is strange to hear because I called a store in Houston and they had a promo of 30% off plus another 20% for the new Jungle Cat Print Blouse plus free expedited shipping as well. Hope you enjoy the set.

  34. Good to know! I will see if I can get a price adjustment.... I am very happy with it — wore the shirt today with the tie from the pants as a kind of pussy bow, with the navy silk shantung collection pants from last year. I’m having an easier time matching this particular tiger shirt than my red and blue one.
