This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So
if you have recently purchased,
or stopped by a J.Crew store to try
on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you
might be willing to share that
information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In
particular, if you could
mention a few of the noteworthy
details like fit, size, fabric, and the
like— that would be fantastic! Thanks
in advance! :)
New arrivals. Curious what everyone is loving.
ReplyDeleteLoving? Not sure about that but at a first quick glance I like the Parke stretch blazer in the natural linen color, as well as the chinos it's shown with (peytons?), the point sur paper bag pants in faded indigo stripe, the lady sweater jacket in fringe (but not the color selection), the jungle print collection blouse, the tiered maxi beach dress, and of course the tweed blazers.
DeleteSmall amount of popbacks in the sale section this morning. Anyone pick up?
ReplyDeleteGlen plaid pearl loafers are a give away at $19.99. I already have them, but a 9.5 is available.
DeleteI didn’t really look because what was 50 percent off is no longer.
Delete@Suz, same.
DeleteI like a lot of new stuff: dobby cotton tops in stripes and solids, Point Sur linen dress in stripe, sailor skirt, cream tweed pencil skirt, and Point Sur midi dress, the last of which is all cotton though I don’t need black, the white looks see through and I need to see the Carmel color in person before committing. Not a big rollout but could use a few more patterns.
ReplyDeleteDenim shell (simple top, but looks really versatile), Liberty crop pants, jungle print silk crop pants and Collection silk tie waist dress are my favorites. Vivid fuchsia linen crop pants (wish it wasn’t a blend), tipped polo feather weight cashmere sweater in green, crystal blossom statement earrings, pleated skirt in shimmering plaid and vintage cotton tees are also nice. Happy to see linen, but not a fan of blends and ruffles. No orders. Waiting on cashmere throw and SZ Blockprint purchases to arrive.
ReplyDeleteCan someone explain to me how the "French fries" shirt (L2469) is cute or funny? I don't get it. Not that I have anything against Italian guys, but seems weird to single them out unless "Italian guys" is code for something I don't have reference to. Are they going to have a whole series of similar themed word tees, like "Ice cream and Asian Guys" or "Salads and Latinos"? Seems like this is just asking for trouble.
ReplyDeleteI like the Collection tie-waist dress in silk (L3864), except the ruffle on the bottom looks tacked on at the last minute. If it had been a single piece of fabric without the seam, it would look more expensive. Or if the seam had to be there, the fabrics aligned so you don't get the disjointed pattern breaking out the leg silhouette.
I usually love the Ratti prints but the grid print on the collection pencil skirt (L3865) is unfortunate. The wideness of the grid accentuates the thighs and hips if you're bigger on the bottom. If I saw that on someone, I'd want to play tic tac toe on their skirt. Or start writing notes. There's so much white space.
Same with the Cutout one-piece swimsuit in Ratti® scribble floral (K7295) - very bottom heavy visually.
I wanted a new Liberty top silhouette but anyone else think the puff-sleeve top (L0599) looks really young, especially with the little ruffle at the shoulder seams?
I like the pleated midi skirt in shimmering plaid. It looks like a vintage 1970s skirt my mom had. I'm not crazy about shimmer though, so will need to see in person if it's irridescent.
Also like the Double-breasted sleeveless sheath dress in stretch linen. Lovely, classic silhouette.
I can't resist the new silk-twill button up in jungle print but really how many versions of the tiger shirt do I need?
that french fries t shirt is just dumb.
Deletei love the graphic for the Limoncello tee, but the khaki color is so drab. i'd prefer it in white at the very least.
Me too. It caught my eye but I hate the khaki color.
Deletesomeone must have taped every episode of Jersey Shore.
DeleteYou’ve certainly nailed it here. The t-shirt is quite bizarre, I think WFF is onto something with the Jersey Shore theme. As for the Ratti grid print, for me it brings to mind a series of post-it notes. I’m the first to chime in “beautiful prints” when asked what I want from J.Crew, but this is really not what I’m looking for.
Deletep.s. The Ratti scribble floral print is fun. Now that’s a skirt I’d buy! Not that there’s one offered...
DeleteWHAT THE HECK. What is this middle school? First it was champagne and merlot, then Prosecco, then cocktails, now we are eating street food in seaside heights?
DeleteI feel like this an inside joke I’m not in on, I mean, that’s the only plausible explanation.
I kinda want that Limoncello tee. It would look great with my 2007 ivory/citron tipped Lexington blazer, which I wore to work today with my 2011 driving scarf in citron/olive/orange. I always receive a zillion compliments on the "pre-war" JC.
DeleteHex, allow me to add to those compliments - I remember that scarf (and the Lexington, of course)! What a great combination.
DeleteFinally some pretty new tops! This is so much more aligned with what I expect from J. Crew. There's still some items that don't look very high quality, though, and there's one or two things I'm eyeing that I'm going to order in a dark color but would prefer having in a pink or blue shade etc. I really like the rollout overall and it seems even better since the past few have been so stylistically poor in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI saw 2 sale items I wanted and was bummed there was no % off sale, only FP items. However, I used the code Lynn gave a few days ago (dbc256517209194) and then it let me stack the "cardlove" on top of that, so it came to 15% off twice on sale which I was happy with.
ReplyDeleteI used the code newnew for 30% off sale items today and then stacked the retailmenot code but didn't try the cardlove one, too. Bummer!
DeleteThe "Salut!" tee is back - as "Saluti!". Was "Salut" incorrect?
ReplyDeleteNo, Saluti is Italian, Salut is French
DeleteAh, of course! Thanks, Lynn - I thought maybe JC made a mistake.
DeleteThe new one is navy. I like the original actor blue color more. I found jcrew graphic tees ' design becomes less creative.
DeleteMeh. New stuff bores me.
ReplyDeleteThat’s kind of how I’m feeling. I like the linen blazer but I have. I bought Regent linen pants which fit really well. I don’t think the Peyton cut would be as flattering on me. I’d love to see a true high waisted full length or even ankle length linen pant with clean lines. Jesse Kamm just released a pair that stopped me in my tracks. I don’t necessarily think her pants work for everyone but the high waist and a line shape of these pants in linen looked nice.
DeleteI kind of wish I got the Easy pant in linen, hopefully some more releases interest me,
Oh I do like a linen tee shirt but $45 seems steep,
A review: I finally received an order placed on 3/10.
ReplyDeleteThe only item purchased for myself was the deconstructed blazer in cotton twill. The Belvedere red color.
First, the good: fit is TTS to a little loose. It has a nice shape.
What I don’t love: the color. In comparison to my linen schoolboy in Belvedere red, this is an almost fluorescent orangey red. The interior is unlined, which I knew, but there are some areas where it seems unfinished. There’s some cute striped lining that I believe is a pocket and it’s just hanging there kind of loosely with what looks like interfacing or webbing exposed. The material + lack of finishing makes it seem very casual.
For a fair price none of this would matter as long as you liked the color. It’s too bad the color is a miss for me because I could overlook the other negatives for a cute, summery blazer, but this one won’t be it. If it was Chambray, black or white I’d have to think long and hard.
To my surprise, I found myself loving a lot in this rollout! I was adding stuff to my wishlist like it was 2012 and Jenna Lyons was still in charge.
ReplyDeleteI liked:
- Double-breasted sheath dress in stretch linen (so classic!)
- Button-front trench dress (perfect easy summer dress! Reminds me of a Reformation dress I had been eyeing last year...)
- Collection silk skirt in jewel block morning sky (I love me a statement skirt!)
- Lady jacket and No 2 pencil skirt in white tweed (makes me wonder if I should return the cobalt tweed jacket I bought recently...)
- V neck sheath dress in pink tweed (OK I love tweed)
- Sheer button-front ruffle blouse with built-in cami (reminds me of a Sezane shirt, can see easily dressing this up or down...)
- Collection silk twill button up shirt and silk wide-leg pants in jungle print (I have the Roaming tiger print shirt, and the jungle cat print shirt -- I definitely don't NEED more tiger silk shirts, but I really love these pants!)
- Pleated front sailor skirt (I'm drawn to the orange - would be very cute with a pink floral)
- Pleated midi skirt in shimmering plaid (high-risk high reward... there's a chance it could be awful in person, but I'm strangely drawn to it...)
All in all, a solid roll-out!
I'm loving the florals, liberty prints, and tweed! Finally there is some color! I'm hoping the quality is there for the items I ordered. Fingers crossed this marks a turning point towards the positive for the Crew. I do think quality Italian shoes and cashmere are things of the past, but at least we can celebrate the small glimpses we get of past glory days.
ReplyDeleteMadewell finally made the perfect bag for every day. It's the "The Abroad Shoulder Bag" (item #L4913). I've been waiting for years for J. Crew to make a crossbody bag that's big enough for every day use. The leather isn't as thin and cheap as it is on some Madewell bags. I love the closure. One reviewer didn't like it, so it's personal taste. It stays closed well enough without making sure it's clasped, but clasping it is easy, IMO. I can't say enough good about this bag.
ReplyDeleteThere is also a mini version of this bag, but I have not tried it and I'm not interested in it because I already have cute crossbody bags that are too small.
I love the leather Sling bag! I think it will be an exceptional Easter present for myself. :)
DeleteI pulled the trigger on the white tweed jacket. Love it and I don't need another one but if I love it I will keep it. Stacked this coupon (dbc256517209194) with the current promo and got 40% off.
ReplyDeleteum, me too.
DeleteIt's beautiful! So classic, I might need it too. I'm thinking of exchanging the cobalt lady jacket I recently bought in favor of the white tweed one... I might order it & compare them side by side and keep the one I like best. Please post your review!
DeleteEllieB, I bought the cobalt blue one too when it was 50% off. I love the tweed jackets. I also bought one on Poshmark from Zara (NWOT for $40). It's navy and red and white. So I have an entire tweed jacket wardrobe that I can wear now into the fall. There have been some of the old J Crew tweed ones there, come NWT and NWOT.
DeleteL3863 Collection wrap skirt. This is for the tall and willowy type. Fit is tts. Rides high as pictured. Lots of loop holes to slip the sash/belt through. High heels only, looks absurd with flats. Dazzling Sun is the yellow in the skirt, gray is more muted. PA sent me photos with various tops and shoes as I’m out of the country. More dressy than a casual look. She looked great in the skirt as she is tall and willowy. She had a girlfriend try it on that has a completely different body type, more athletic and it was not flattering at all. This is their opinion. As for myself, when I return I will post more info. From her photos #1 PA she looked far better, the other girl looked ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the review, Lynn! I’ve ordered this skirt in the same color as you to try.
Delete@jan, you’re welcome. Hope it works for you. It was funny hearing how the girls had difficulty wrapping the skirt through loopholes. I see myself having the same problem!
