Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Crew thisa {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  1. Big sale update with almost 3000 items. Shoptoit still working. Nothing for me, but hope others find some winners like Italian cashmere cardigan in black, multiple sizes, for $85 before discount. I own it, and it’s quite nice. Hard to imagine where some of this inventory has been hiding.

    1. I picked up an ollllld item, the Joelle blouse, which looks to be silk and from 2010ish? I think it will be too small but for $8 and not final sale, I'll take a chance! I'm excited to see if it ships. There was also a really old pair of pants called the Comrade pants which I think were from 2011. I also ordered a mystery "update prod description" item- no idea what it will be! I figure I'm going to have so many returns after my husband tries on all his orders, what's one more? We literally have 12 packages due to arrive in the next week between us and about 5 items that have yet to ship not including the above order. I'm relieved the extra 60% off is over after tonight. The financial hit was small but volume-wise I'm overwhelmed with what's headed our way. Good thing I did a closet clearout before! I know I will be picky once I'm trying things on, though, so I'm not too concerned.

    3. I did see few things but was to slow to check out. I wish I would of seen black cardigan I been looking for one.... I did place an order for size 2 cat silk shirt, few long sleeve tops for mu daughter, and I did get a back up grey wool sweater blazer.... I love the one I have and this one was only $23. Dry cleaning cost more then that....lol.... I have 2 packages arriving today, 2 Tomorrow, and 2 yet to ship.... ughh glad they taking a break

    4. @Alyssa - I always see those mystery update prod description items - either $23.99 or $29.99 - and am never brave enough to order just to see what it is. Please let us know when it arrives! I'm guessing a pair of shorts or a sweater?

      Delete
    5. Oh wow. Some of those old items are so much nicer than the new stuff - the irony of them being so much cheaper does not escape me. I may pick up the liberty symphony floral top with my $25 off card.

    6. I was awake for the big update, too, unfortunately. Too much caffeine on Sunday, I guess. I ordered a bunch of popbacks "to try." I picked up a few super cheap items, including a French blue Irish linen shirt and a Stewart tartan shirt for $12 each. I got rid of all my tartan shirts several years ago, but I was really missing them this past holiday season.

@Alyssa @eeps - I'm always tempted by the mystery items, too. Sometimes you can pretty much guess what it is, but other times...it's a mystery. They always disappear, so either someone buys them or the description is eventually updated.

On a sad note, J.Crew increased my credit limit. I'm sad that they think I need it.

    7. I was also awake and picked up one more item. It’s baffling to me how they go from an extra 60% off sale to nothing. I definitely don’t need anything but they are not going to clear the sale section like that. It has only moved from 2377 items when I looked around 8 to 2314 at 5 pm.....

  2. Boy am I glad that's over! I still don't understand why they remove the sale discount but hey, No Shop February (or I'll take Mindful Shop February) will be easier to stick to.

I still have a few items coming, if they ship.

    1. Went to store and returned $150 worth of merchandise. I'm happy with what I decided to return versus keep. Nothing in store to make me pounce, although the pics that JCRewAficionada posted on IG made me jealous that "my" sale section did not have as many smaller items I may have wanted, it is surely for the best that I didn't spend more due to sale goggles.

Still waiting for many items, including an order over a week ago (the darn maddies!) to ship.

Wish I woke up during the night to find some gems, but grateful for a good night's rest :)

    2. Agreed, although I did wake up in the middle of the night around 2:30, only 1500 items were in sale section so it must have been right before everything was added. That's fine. And I'm at the point that if my red and black boots don't ship, so be it. I think I'd make use of both, but still.

    3. I was up at 1:50 a.m. and the sale section was at 2500. Try browsing the sale section under your incognito browser - your cache probably hadn't picked up on the site update yet.
I too am so relieved the additional % off is over. (also bummed that apparently I missed the return of the hot dog keychain, which members of the FMF reddit discovered during the sale update)
In my sleep-deprived daze overnight while SHOPTOIT was still working, I picked up the Comrade pants popback, the orange Drake PJ shirt and an old Ratti silk popback. In the light of day, I can't tell you why. The Comrade pants are a size too big, I hate orange, and I don't need a short-sleeve silk blouse in the dead of winter. Depending on what ships, I guess I'll be making a bunch of returns!
Honestly.. these JC sale goggles. Who else is in for NSF (no shop Feb)??

      Delete
    4. When were the comrade PANTS released? I have no recollection. Did you get camo? That's pretty much all I see online. They seem to be fairly low rise so they must be from years ago!

      Delete
    5. I'm guessing late 2011 or 2012? Not the camo (I cannot do camo).. item 49517. They look comfy.

    6. @eeps All aboard the NSF train, count me in!

  3. I really love my chunky merino turtleneck from Everlane. I'm trying not to overwear it so I'm wearing my other similar sweaters around the house and for errands etc. Super tempted to buy the crewneck version in Black and bone which are also on choose what you pay.
I just got an email from them with new arrivals and there's a similar chunky cotton knit. So I checked...30% nylon. Grrr. Seriously. This makes me want to buy the merino version even more, but I'll wear mine more to make sure it holds up well. Although it cost more than double what I made for my Madewell sweaters in black and ivory if it looks nice after a season and I'm not searching for replacements it will be worth it.
Still I'm trying to hold off because they're not an immediate need, but when something works well and is on sale, it's hard not to grab it.

The look: wide leg crops (fine)
      Cashmere sweaters (fine)
Silk scarves around necks, waists, whatever (fine)
Colorful driving Mocs (fine, for moderate temps)
      Socks. (Fine)
Wait, for those people who want warm boots for 20 degree weather, let's show them how cool random colored socks will look with their driving Mocs. Who needs boots? 😜

It's like CHOPPED but for clothing. How can I combine all the ingredients?

    4. i view the email as the thin end of the wedge. The road to perdition began with clashing colors.

    5. @Suz, They’ve got to be kidding. Hideous. No, I never wear socks with my Tod’s. I see plenty of tourists when I am back home in Monaco walking around wearing Birkenstock’s with socks. Laughable. One example how we identify we tourists here. There are many more:)

      Delete
    6. I mean I see fashion bloggers wearing tights and socks with heels and sandals. I wouldn't do it. It's not for me, but at least the line of a heel can look attractive. I don't get it.

      Delete
    7. Socks + sandals is a runway look. Every fall fashion week, designers put models in socks with strappy sandals. The only time I wear socks with sandals is at home when I want to stretch out/soften the sandals. It's the most impractical thing ever!

      Delete
    8. I'm not on the e-mail distribution list, so I didn't see the picture, but yes, I would and do wear colorful socks with driving mocs. Yesterday, in fact. I'm a huge fan of Happy Socks. I wear them with everything.

      Delete
    9. I'm with you, Jeanne. I, too, will wear colorful or printed socks with driving mocs. Depends on weather and mood. I understand the look is not for everyone though. :-)

    10. But with CROPPED pants? That clash?

      Delete
    11. I had deleted the email without opening it, so of course had to go and check it out. What a mess! I notice that none of the models are standing up, as this would highlight the improbability of the mocs/socks/crops combo (throw in a fox and you’ve got a Dr Suess book). Reminds me of the post a few weeks ago when a JCA mentioned some photo that showed a Cocoon coat tied around the model’s waist. Not even remotely wearable, but made for a colorful, cute photo.

      Delete
    12. @Suz Has - I probably wouldn’t wear socks & driving mocs with wide leg crops, shorts or skirts, but I like them with jeans and chinos.

      Delete
    13. @shopgrrrl - I bet the stylist tied the Cocoon coat around the model’s waist because it didn’t fit her.

  5. Any thoughts on the factory city coat... it’s coming to $38 with all the discounts! I do like the color!!! Not sure if it’s worth it? Thanks

    1. I'd put the $'s towards a better quality retail coat. I'm not negative about everything from Factory - I bought a puffer coat there last year. But this one has a lot of bad reviews about both the fit and the fabrics. When I see 'pilling' in a 4 or 5 star review?
As far as is it worth $38, probably, but we're ruined by the crazy sales prices on retail garments.

      Delete
    2. I bought the city coat a couple of months ago, and while I do wear it often, the quality is not great. It's pilled quite a lot and now looks more like boiled wool. It's much thinner than the retail version as well, which I like for more mild weather days. All that said, I wouldn't buy another one, regardless of price. HTH!

    3. I saw the factory city coat at the outlet a d it is def lower quality amd i can not recommend it.

  6. @Kate, No I wouldn’t purchase it. Example, I recently purchased a Lodge Coat for $56.00. I wore it on my last business trip to Norway and it kept me warm enough. Surprisingly it was warmer in Norway than it is in U.S. I also purchased the Puffer coat in the Black Multi/ Navy reversible style and wore it this morning back in South Florida. Received a lot of compliments. Warm but not bulky at all. I paid $33.00. Agree with p banos.

    12. Don’t love them like I love the wool ones. Wear those in a 00. Had ordered the stretch cotton ones a couple of months back and decided I didn’t like them, but reordered solely based on price this time around. The things we do for a good discount!

  10. I see that the 50/60/70% sale is, mercifully, over. As with this post-holiday time last year, I felt like a J.Crew junkie who was constantly checking for my fix of pop-backs around the clock. Between items for both my daughter and me, I spent about $500 over the past month on sale items/pop-backs, and what really saved me this year was the free shipping on everything. I would say 50% of what I bought will be regular- or semi-regular-rotation items, while the other half will be chalked up to what someone above referred to as “pop back goggles” (after all, there isn’t much call for a rollneck wool sweater here in So Florida).

Looking over some of my as-yet unworn JC stuff from this time last year, I am reminded of the Seinfeld “stuff” skit, where he laments about compulsive buying that turns into immediate clutter, and ponders the notion of simply taking the packages directly from the postman and passing them directly into the garbage for the sake of efficiency. Hi hum. JC Addicts Anonymous, anyone?

    1. @Lynn You are so right! I did get the email shortly after I responded to you, and the associated survey was very disappointing. A bunch of lackluster skirts to rate, but no opportunity to say what we *do* want. A survey of the archives would be quite telling.

  15. Two items arrive: A pair of Alison Lou beaded daisy drop hoop earrings, and a black stewart plaid shirt for the Mr.
The earrings are as cute as I expected and as large as I expected. I'll see how I do with the weight - the large round front and back help distribute it. If they prove to be too heavy, I can slip off the lower ring and wear the beaded daisies alone. I do hope I can wear them as is, they are really eye-catching and would be fantastic with some of my summer dresses.

The black stewart tartan shirt is as expected in a slim fit. I nearly picked up the same pattern in a perfect shirt, but decided I would appreciate more on my husband. Here's hoping he likes it. For some reason I have to move the sleeve buttons on every J Crew shirt. Wish they would just put two buttons in the first place. Do guys just wear shirts with the sleeves too loose? My husband has big hands and wrists and every shirt is too big in the cuffs.

Unlike @Suz Has, my tall boots shipped. But I'm trying not to get too excited, for fear they will not fit my muscular calves. Hopefully the leg width increases with foot size, 'cos I am a 10.

    1. Here's my theory on how we get cancel notices even after seeing an item available for days after order. Some of the sale items are shipping from retail locations. So your order gets assigned to a store location that has reported inventory, then they take a week or more to get around to shipping, and THEN realize they have sold the item that was supposed to ship to you. "Sorry" email gets sent, and you are left out.
