J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

I hope Suz got the boots! I sent her a DM at 3 am!

    2. OMG you guys are so funny! I just ordered the boots and then sent a DM to CS! Thank you Cher for the message, I saw that first! I then clicked to a DM from Jcrew responding to my search inquiry "sorry it's sold out site wide" then porceeded to order.
I have to say this company is lucky we are loyal. The pricing games are ludicrous. Right now there are over 3000 items in women's sale section. I don't even want to look, but I will out of curiosity as I sip my coffee.

    3. Fantastic! I ordered the size 0 navy cotton maddies, which I may or may not like, but my other navy workpants are too big on me so perhaps they will just fill a void short term until I find better. I'm fine with that, for $20. I intend to get on live chat promptly at 9 am to request the PA.

    4. Yeah! Glad you got the boots. Hope you asked them for expedited shipping too for the inconvenience of the cancellation. I wonder if the stores are offering a % off sale. I’m going to check later this morning, if anyone knows, please chime in. Popbacks in my size in a couple of SZ Blockprints (Layla dress and cobalt leaf pants), so ordered for vacation next week. It’s summertime in Capetown, so these items should work well.

    7. Oh, that's good to know. I didn't ask for expedited shipping, Tara. Hmmm.

    8. I just left my local store and they are still offering 60% off sale! This is in Greensboro, NC.

    9. I also saw 60% off sale at my local store in Skokie, IL.

    10. Yep, 60% off in my store too. Calling for a PA.

    11. Online CS matches store sales?
If I email, will they honor the 60%? Anyone know what the NY stores sales % off was ? Does it have to be a local store to get the price match?
      Thanks

  2. Yesterday I wore my giant plaid puffer scarf for the first time. I generally wear my wintress parka to yoga. I started keeping my essentials in my "denim" fanny pack so I don't need to bring a bag so I wrapped that around the scarf and put the parka on top. It was mild yesterday but I can see how this adds a nice extra warm layer. It is a little bulky around the neck but I can prob get used to it. Definitely helps when you're walking a few blocks, which I tend to do.

Also I put on denim skinny jeans for the first time in awhile, the lyric wash ones from last year. They also work well with the Sadie boots. My darker wash ones are a little shorter so not sure how those will be. I realize that the regular ankle length in the skinny jeans isn't right for me, I prefer longer for cuffing. (Not that I'm buying more skinny jeans!) I already have one pair from last winter I have never worn.

    1. You'll love that puffer Thurs then, when the polar vortex arrives.
For me the best length jeans is from Gap, the long (not tall) length. Wish J Crew did that.

      Delete
    2. I haven't tried Gap jeans in years. The tall from Jcrew would work fine but I tend to need a 24 in skinny jeans and they don't make that. I've gotten from Madewell but the last few I've tried from Madewell I wasn't as crazy about. It's ok I DONT NEED ANYMORE JEANS. 😂

    3. I used to love Gap real straight jeans, but I haven’t worn them recently. I struggle with the length. The regular is usually too short and the long & tall are too long. And I hate hemming. Just yesterday I pulled 3 barely worn pairs back out of my charity donations bag. I decided to give them another try. I cut the hems using my vintage straight jean in faded midnight with raw hems as a pattern, then put them through the wash to fringe the hems. They look good. Hopefully I’ll wear them now.

    4. Wearing Gap real straight jeans right now, old ones, 99% cotton 1% spandex. They are the best! Have to be careful with the newer versions as they sneak some poly in there but those aren't bad either, just more stretchy. Lots of people love Loft jeans but they do nothing for my already flat rear end.

  3. I received a lot of of stuff yesterday. Tried on the 0T polka dot pants and they looked ridiculous on me. The leg was too wide and just too much fabric for my frame to pull off, I think. I'm very glad I got to try them on and get them out of my head. Thank you to p banos for suggesting I order the 0 after the 2, which didn't even leave the plastic bag.
My first Liberty shirt ever is a hit! The black orange multicolor is as beautiful as I remember and I'm super happy the size 2 fit.
Also received the leopard button down in a 2 and it is a winner!
Lastly, the blackwatch tartan tippi is a keeper. There are a few white areas on the sleeve, but I paid $14 and am happy to have a good layering piece for the ofice under blazers or a cardigan.
I was surprised both blouses fit so well. In the past I have needed a size 4 for sleeve length, and the size 2s were perfect. Long sleeves, slim enough but not tight through the body, not tight in the bust, and the shoulders were okay too. All in all, great buys I will wear to work for years!

    1. @Cheritheberry, sorry the polka boyfriends were a no-go, but at least you didn't spend those $s. They are actually good for me in a 2T. I'm larger than you and they are pretty slouchy. If I was into tight pants (not) the 0T may have even fit me.

Like the leopard perfect shirt too, you will wear it year-round.

I so wanted to order the blackwatch Tippi, but my figure is wrong for that style. You can wear it with the navy or black Maddies for the perfect work uniform.

      Delete
    2. The blackwatch Tippi I received was a horrible mess with white patches everywhere. Don't know how that one made it past quality control - ha! I took it back and didn't bother to reorder on the chance that wonky sweater made its way back to me.

  4. Collection double faced cashmere wrap coat. It’s a bit oversized, so you can size down & still wear a blazer. The walnut color is rich, and while not a perfect color match, pairs well with Italian cashmere in camel. Coat matches Collection wool pants and double faced cashmere popover in walnut from previous seasons. Wore yesterday to the office and received lots of compliments. Zara did a similar wool blend option (Style #7522/267) this year. It retailed for $220. The double cashmere was $240 with promo & coupon. Glad I was able find a size that worked. I definitely recommend if you can find your size. Will also pair with leather leggings and Vince suede leggings in the same colorway.

  5. You'd think that all those flash sales, etc., would have depleted their back stock but apparently we barely made a dent. I couldn't believe 3000+ in the sale section this morning. I didn't place any orders but was happy to see some of the popbacks in lucky sizes.

I have the SZ blue floral pants coming. I already own the matching cropped shirt and skirt. I'm wondering whether I need all three pieces? The shirt/skirt combo looks great; I worry the shirt/pants combo looks like pajamas. Anyone have this and can comment?
*I also ordered the matching one-piece. I have a problem.

    1. I spotted some very old popbacks this morning. It makes me seriously wonder where this stuff is hiding in the warehouse. One of the embroidered front tees was available in XS. That shirt has to be 5 years old!

    2. It's a lovely pattern. Wear the one piece as a body suit and then an white shirt open on top. Of course going potty will be a torment, but you will look cute.

  6. I got the giant puffer scarf in the Liberty print today. I was drawn to this print for nostalgic reasons. Our last house was full of William Morris wallpaper (which we had to remove because the previous owner, who installed it all, was a smoker and the house gave me migraines!) and the one print I did really like reminds me of this print. It also reminds me of some of the artwork from Disneys Sleeping Beauty which my kids loved. Anyway, long story short, the scarf is as expected but the print does lack the vibrancy I was hoping for. A reviewer did mention this as well. The way it's printed on the fabric it's not as crisp as you'd expect. Overall for the low price I paid its fine. It's cute and will work with my wintress puffer or my down vests as an extra layer.

  8. I ordered a crazy old popback the other day - the vintage straight jean in Ontario wash, which I think is from 2013? I love my pair but they're large so I was glad to get a size down, thinking they'd probably never ship.

Well, they shipped and showed up today - there was no tag, which didn't surprise me, but what DID surprise me is that somebody had altered them at the waist. Each of the sides was pinched in and they were crudely stitched up with black thread. I've suspected that there are people that just return any old JC they can find and that's where these extreme popbacks come from. But altered jeans? That's a new one for me.

    1. Eeeewwwww! Who does that? I mean, seriously? What a disappointment.

      Delete
    2. What the heck?! That's insane. People have cojones!

      Delete
    3. Well who the heck took the return? It’s awful any way you slice it.

      Delete
    4. Disgusting, and ignorant - that is NOT how you alter jeans. Why not ask for a refund and then ask if they really want you to ship back damaged used pants. You may be able to remove the alterations, wash them and move on?

      Delete
    5. Sorry that happened to you. A couple years ago, I also received a popback collection dress that had been altered to make it shorter. When I took the dress to the store to return, the sales associate who was also store manager kept questioning whether I altered it as if I was lying. She also made me wait there while she called the store that sent me the dress to verify whether it was already altered before they sent it to me. She eventually processed the refund but that incident had to be the worst customer experience I had with J Crew.

  9. My Collection silk twill button-up in jungle cat print arrived in record time, with 5 broken buttons on the front. No damage to the shirt, just the buttons. Weird. Anyway, CS is shipping a new one and sending a label to return the damaged one.

It's a beautiful shirt! The silk is especially luscious. I ordered my perfect shirt size. While it is roomy, I would not go smaller, I love the fit. And the sleeves are long enough.

Had this on wishlist for months, and am glad I ordered despite having already spent to much during the recent sales. It works so well with the ivory princess mini that I have yet another reason to keep that skirt. I've got the pull on pants. I may wear them together with a jacket to add a little contrast.

    1. Oh nice, and lucky you with the fast shipping.

    2. Awesome! It’s a special piece, no regrets! Even better it goes well with your skirt. I’m wanting the princess skirt now too...

      Delete
    3. Well, the reviews said it ran small, but I disagree. I ordered my usual 2T and it is actually loose in the waist. I might have even fit the 0T, but skirts with a loose waist just ride a bit lower on my hips. The quality is there. Having spent so much money lately, I tried not to like this skirt, but it is too nice. I love it with the Reeds mockneck in ivory/black/red. That will be my Valentines outfit.

      Delete
    4. DONT tempt me into getting that skirt, then we'd be valentines twins. 😂 actually I have so many black skirts, I didn't even try them with the Reeds sweater. I'm sure the ivory stands out though.

    5. Maybe it’s only the princess mini in gold. I needed to return for a bigger size (2 sizes actually) and someone else here also had to go a size up in the same color .

  10. p banos, sorry you had a problem with the blouse. I had ordered my regular size which was too large, they overnighted me another (same size) which was too small and now I’m on the 3rd overnighted same size. All of my orders have been shipped expedited not only the blouses. Grateful to my VPS

    1. Lynn, thank you for the sizing advice on the jungle cat silk blouse. I ordered a 0 after first ordering a 2. My orders arrived last night; the 0 is the right size for me. Such a gorgeous blouse and great quality.

  11. Was anyone able to score the leather jacket with peplum waist in a size 2? I got a 0 and the shoulders are a little snug. I will keep it if I can't find a 2, but I would LOVE one size up if anybody has a new one to sell or trade for the size 0.

    1. Oh I was looking at that. Good score even if it's too tight! Reviews said it ran small.

    2. Yeah I took a chance since it was $184 after the extra 60% off. It's wearable but I will probably keep checking in case someone returns a 2. I love it :)

    3. What size shirt/blazer do you usually wear? Curious since I'm a 2/4 with some 0 tops and it told me to get a 6!

      Delete
    4. I am usually a 0/2 in shirts and 2 or XS in jackets, coats, and blazers (occasionally a 0). The true fit thing said size 2 but 0 and 6 were the only sizes available and I really wanted it :)

      Delete
    5. I almost got the six! I hesitated and. Then it was gone.

    6. We were probably looking at the same time. Too funny.

  12. My Effie scarf dress popback in wild mushroom size 6 arrived today as a black fit and flare stretch ponte dress in 8T, without tags but with shoe prints near the hem. I almost laughed out loud when I pulled it out of the plastic bag. Oh well, there goes my popback experiment.
My navy midi slip dress arrived with the security tag still attached.
And my plum long sleeve sheath dress came in one of those mailer bags that was only halfway sealed. I know self adhesive envelopes are hard to use (I’m being sarcastic here) but really all someone needed to do was fold down along a straight edge.

I haven’t been this disappointed with my orders in a long time. Right now the only keepers are the liberty Jackie and the liberty poppy floral blazer.

  13. Super Bowl wardrobe assistance needed. I’m having an anxiety attack and I hate football:) No offense football fans here! I just received a call a short time ago from one of my European clients who’s requested the honor of my presence in Atlanta on Sunday. Translation: I’m obligated to go. He’s good friends with the team’s owner so you know where this is going. What shall I wear? I haven’t a clue! I don’t know a soul here who even follows football. Hubby is a European and a soccer fan so he jokingly said “call Gisele” ask her, so no help. So here I am desperately asking for your help. You guys are so creative when it comes to coordinating items together. Suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks.

    1. My first question has to be what type of work do you do and will you be attending in a professional capacity?
Depending on that answer, and having just checked the weather, which will be mild, low chance of rain but as low as 40, here are my suggestions.
Check the colors of the teams. Do you want to wear any team colors? If not make sure you don't, I once went a a Super Bowl party accidentally wearing colors of the team most of the guests weren't rooting for so you can only imagine...
So aside from color, I'd sugggested an upscale casual look. I'm imagining sleek but comfortable leather pants/leggings, cool fashion sneakers and layers on top because the weather will no doubt vary inside and out. A cute tee under a slim sweater, a beautiful oversized blazer or Topcoat, scarf or cashmere wrap. alternately a comfortable puffer or bomber.
I'm sure jeans or other pants would work well too, but I figure you must have fabulous leather.

      Delete
    2. Lynn, without knowing your age and style, I also agree with Suz in suggesting a casual look that is also elegant. I would personally do fitted pants or an a-line skirt with a cashmere top/sweater or a button down and thin sweater and a blanket scarf if you have one. Keep it simple. I know many will be dressed down or wearing team jerseys, but I prefer to be overdressed so I suggest ballet flats or driving loafers for a casual, effortless yet smart look. Not sure if any of this resonates with your style, but sounds like you are getting some great advice for what sounds like a fun event! I can't wait to hear what you choose!

      Delete
    3. Hi Lynn, good call from Suz on checking out the team colors. When I think sporting event, I immediately think of layers so I think you've gotten some good advice here. I hope our resident layering expert Mygoddy will chime in, and maqsad also has great styling ideas.

And I know you're in a time crunch, but the "call Gisele" just made me laugh out loud! Hope you have a good time.

      Delete
    4. I am not a football fan either, but if you're going to go, what an exciting way to do it! I agree with everyone else, but wanted to add I am quite sure that everyone will be appreciative of your aesthetic. It is one thing to be in the stands, but something entirely different to be in a luxury suite hobnobbing with the team owner and celebs. A small nod to the teams colors, in a scarf or accessory perhaps, would not go unnoticed. You've got this!

    5. What about ponte pants and a cashmere sweater with mules or short heels?

I have visions of alot of superficial wannabees bs, too many LV bags, LB shoes, Gucci whatever. I always dress for myself and what I am comfortable in, of course I love my nice things but this doesn't validate me as to who I am. After all, we are human beings right?? 16. @Suz, and everyone who gave me wonderful suggestions. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much. If I had a twitter account or an instagram account I could provide a live feed to you and we could all have a laugh on Sunday. (I can't because of privacy and contract reasons) It would certainly be a wonderful diversion for me! Here is what I decided so far and please let me know if you like my ideas. I have more faith in your tastes than because of the "individuality factor" which has always been important for me as a female. I am down to a couple of choices here: a Vintage Print Hermes Silk Bomber Jacket, a colorful long sleeve Jcrew Cashmere Featherweight Tee, (the good old quality)a pair of slim straight legged AKRIS cropped pants that are cuffed, dark color, an AKRIS Cashmere Wrap Coat which is nice because it doesn't have belt loops, and a pair of GG SUperstar Glitter Sneakers with a pink star. Oh, and a large semi vintage AKRIS scarf with an airplane (tribute to Emilia Earhart) Last a Goyard Tote for carrying whatever I need and hopefully will be lost in the flood of Gucci, LV, etc! I have to run to a business meeting now and will check back later for your final verdicts. Thanks so much! Wish you were all coming with me!! The Jcrew Crew!! P.S. My client has it easy and is very predictable, he always wears the classic uniform, blue handmade shirt, navy cashmere sweater, cashmere coat, cashmere scarf, Tod's shoes and believe it or not, Levi's Jeans. He will most likely be wearing the same when he arrives here WPB tomorrow:)

    1. Lynn, I'm not sure what some of those pieces are but it sounds fabulous. Classic with your personality infused. And I must say if I had $$ to spare and didn't have two Daughters in expensive colleges I'd put a goyard tote on my wishlist. I love them.

    2. Well, after a very long day it was nice to relax, scroll through JCA to see what’s going on, and look up a few of these items. I love to know what’s what! As a lover of stars and glitter, I immediate googled the sneakers and think they’re great! So fun and a nice choice with the bomber jacket #sportylux. I’ve purchased a dozen pairs of sneakers in the past year as I try to transition to more practical footwear. And the Goyard totes caught my eye as well, I don’t know what colour you’re going to carry, but I quite like the pattern. So, I concur with Suz, sounds wonderful!

    3. @SuzHas, The Akris Brand is a Swiss Company found by a woman. Here is the website akris.com. Check it out if you have time. Their pieces can be classic, quirky, beautiful and extremely well made. Outrageously expensive but I never ever pay full price for any of these brands. That’s another story. I can only imagine how difficult it is putting 2 kids through expensive colleges. I hope when they graduate and are working they will gift you in return for your sacrifices. I wish I could somehow share these pieces with you to view. I think you would love them not because of their costs or brand names but because of the colors, patterns etc. if I had my way this Sunday I would be in a pair of ripped jeans, sneakers, one of Jcrew’s Collection Tees and an old Jcrew cashmere BF sweater:) The tote was a gift by the way from a client:) Thanks so much again for your help. It will be an interesting event to see what others are wearing. Will report back.

    4. @Lynn So many great choices. I like the idea of the bomber with the cashmere tee & a pair of red bottom heels. A subtle, but stylish nod to the Super Bowl. 18. @Lynn, love the tribute to Amelia! The GG sneaks seem a little out of place with the rest of the outfit, but maybe my imagination needs a tune up. I'd go with something with more of a driving moc aesthetic or a killer pair of boots.

  19. @Monica Bonita, thanks so much for your input. She was my idol after my father. I have lived in Europe for many years and spend 99% of my time there which is my real home. The sneakers are meant to send a subminal message or perhaps not to those who consider themselves “fashion forward “ i.e. I don’t follow sheep:) I have tons of driving moc’s but my feet get tired in them, maybe the killer red soled boots should be stashed in my tote? 2. Oh my goodness Lynn, so sorry to hear that. My condolences to you both. Just goes to show one never knows what's going on on the other side of the iPad/phone/whatever even if things seem perfect. Everyone's got their thing and we are all here as a little escape. This is a reminder to try and be kind.
I know several of us have had medical issues this year (myself included) and I was so grateful, even when I wasn't really shopping much, to visit my JCA friends here.

    3. @Suz Has, hey I forgot to mention I looked at your IG it’s wonderful. Wow, you’re so photogenic and have such a beautiful family. I love your outfits and those boots!! Love them with your outfits and I too, like oversized coats and jackets. Many times I have purchased guy’s blazers in the past because I loved the way they fit. That Longchamp striped tote you have is beautiful!! I missed that one. Have you seen they have a new size now and the logo is colored. I purchased a navy with the red horse racer. These are my everyday totes and they’re easy on the shoulder.

    4. @Suz Has, thanks for your kind words. Children are priceless. I would give everything I have to bring him back. Kindness goes a long way and there hasn’t been enough of these in a very long time. Last of all having good health is priceless and many times $$ can’t even buy or fix that. I so love this site with everyone’s wonderful ideas and shares. We are all different and that’s what makes this special. Have a nice evening everyone and a good weekend. Thanks to all😘

    5. @Lynn and Monica Bonica, So sorry to hear about your loss of a child. We never know what each of us has been through and currently facing. Amen to being kind to one another and supportive. It’s sorely needed. Grateful for this small community. Have a wonderful Friday evening!

    6. @Lynn and @Monica Thank you both for sharing these experiences, I am keeping you both in my heart since I know the sadness never really "goes away." @Monica, I have kept you and your husband in my prayers since you shared with me that you miscarried, I know one way or another you are going to become a wonderful mom.
And to everybody in this community: I have been thinking lately about how many years I have been reading and commenting here (a long time!) and how despite this being a shopping blog, it has created a beautiful community of people that goes beyond what we buy. Thank you Alexis for facilitating this space, and to everybody that contributes. This blog has accompanied me during some struggles and provided a much needed distraction. I don't shop at J. Crew as much as I did in the past, but always pop in here to read because it feels like having tea with friends. Thank you for making this space uplifting!

  21. To all here, apologies for the typos and thank you so very much for the outpouring of kind comments and suggestions. @ Anthro Blogger, yes, it is like having tea here and I wish that we could all get together in person somewhere, some day. Now this would be an interesting event far nicer than any sporting event.

    1. Ugh, I just lost a whole response. Thank you so much Lynn, for your kind comments. Just a quick note about the Longchamp, it's a custom one ordered, through their site. I've had it about four years and it functions as a work tote, a personal item when I travel and my everyday bag for errands--I use smaller Longchamp bags inside and various pouches, etc, to stay organized. Until the day I can buy a goyard without guilt 😉 , I'm happy to carry something I created for myself that's gone many miles with me. And because I ordered through Longchamp directly and not another vendor, they will repair it for me whenever needed.
I have a bunch of smaller Longchamp bags in my usual colors, red, black, light gray, dark gray and ivory and one limited edition geometric that I love as well.. I've been tempted by some of the other limited editions but not enough to pull the trigger. I like the new logo style but none of the colors are ideal for me! I love that they're classic and don't go out of style. Since I bought most of my Longchamp about four years ago (long story!) I haven't purchased any other bags aside from basic totes, I'd love a backpack for more utilitarian purposes but don't love the Longchamp ones I've seen and don't want to settle with garbage anymore.

  23. @SuzHas, Thanks, maybe I will get lucky and be able to do the same as some point. I picked up the larger tote in Le Galop print while I was in Paris; nice print and cheapo, equivalent of $30.00 US Nordstrom had it on sale for $128.00. If I see a backpack (not Longchamp) I will let you know. Of course it will be cheaper in price:) So proud to be a shopping cheapskate! What do you think of the Tanti Baci Jackie? Have you seen it? Thanks

    1. Hi Lynn, I like that Jackie...as a designer I like when words create a pattern which is why I got the Yes No sweater. Unfortunately those cardigans don't work for me, my shoulders make me have to size up and they're always tight on my muscular arms. I think the only way they'd work for me is if I got them really oversized. I love the vibe though. As a former swimmer I wanted the swimmer Jackie but didn't grab it because of sizing.
