Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Crew this {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  1. My thanks (and I am being sincere) to the early morning shopper who bought the Maddies in black in P0. I have acquired too many of them, but there were there this morning at $26 Cdn. I found myself acting on auto-pilot, and I added them to the cart. When I tried to check out, the J Crew website was not cooperating and was giving me the error code with 500 in it. This delay plus the other shopper saved me from myself.

there are worse things, but if you have 1 pair and a backup you are good.

    2. I'd like to thank whomever bought the Sadie glitter boots in size 8.5 and the crepe drop sleeve turtleneck in black XS. I really don't need another pair of glittery shoes, already have the gold boots ordered, and although the crepe turtleneck has been on my list since it came out, I could live without it (but, ok, I'll keep checking just in case).

    3. I’d like to thank whoever bought the tartan Camerons in size 4 because I keep thinking I need more Camerons even though I went from 1 pair to 7 pairs in a month.

  2. I didn't visit over the weekend but did place a few orders and I am braving the cold and stopping by today for returns. I received a few nice emails from CS following up on my PA inquiries confirming that they'd been completed via Instagram which was nice. Orders are slowly shipping, I got two UPS notifications yesterday but only one from J.Crew confirming my polka dot dulci heels (yay!).

Weekend orders included the ivory popcorn cable sweater and a popback of the hot pink tweed Harlow pumps with glitter heel. I justified these because my navy poppy tweed flats canceled but I really should cool it. This is the first time in a while I can recall the sale being consistently refreshed - usually by Monday of a good sale weekend the sale count is pretty low - women's items have hovered in the 1700ish range all weekend.

  4. Hi P, I purchased the large ones in yellow with the little pink heart. Surprisingly lightweight. I wear them when I wear the Liberty Floral yellow popover.

    1. @Lynn, Thanks for answering! I ordered the blue with the daisy. I can see them with several of my summer dresses, especially a blue/white stripe shirtdress. The only costume jewelry I wear are earrings - bright earrings are so much fun.

    2. @p, Blue? They’re plum color more purple unless u missed the Blue which I would have ordered. How are you feeling? Better I hope.

    3. I'm HOME! Looking at a couple of weeks recovery, but it feels good to be here.

I opened a random J Crew bag, and am already returning the cashmere hoodie. Ick! I wouldn't wear it for free, actually.

Most of the other bags are for my husband. He will not try anything on until I iron it. Otherwise he will think the garment is defective due to wrinkles. So all his returns look great!

I guess the earrings are called plum, which to me is purple+blue. Anyway, they look like fun.

I also received a pair of velour joggers from Gap that I tried as a replacement for my sad looking sweats/pajamas. They are very nice, albeit a bit short, but fine for house wear. If I catch a popback in Small/Tall I will get black as well. The dark blue is a nice shade, almost plum!

Sadly I can not wear my pants until the awful swelling goes down in my tummy. I can't even look in a mirror now, and am just wearing my dumpiest clean the house sweats.

  7. Spring Preview from Madewell

    https://www.madewell.com/spring-lookbook-2019.html?srcCode=Email|Loyalty|Responsys|MWEMBR02839&uea=9VmZAo8UIS5T1%2B9tHOij5kOoO%2B7lideBbJ3ogCWaMtY%3D&utm_source=responsys&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Jan_0121_Spring19Lookbook_Full&utm_content=Loyalty&rmid=Jan_0121_Spring19Lookbook_Full&rrid=76055

It's a pass for me. I am sure there will be gems released throughout the spring/summer season, just not what's styled on this preview. It's too 90's mixed with 70's, and not in a good way. I liked Joyce's designs in the beginning after she took over for Somsack, but the looks have been consistent from her for quite some time, and it's not evolving (yawn).
Though Madewell is doing better than J.Crew, her designs/creative input is what their customers come back for.

    2. @JSR, I love Madewell jeans. I did purchase a silk skirt and top flower bloom pattern or whatever it was called in yellow on a leap of faith and suprisingly lived both pieces and quality was fine. Nothing else has interested me since those 2 pieces however. I’m not into the hippie vibe as Eeps has posted.

      Delete
    3. Not for me either. I like their more basic tanks, I've gotten two of each in black and a stripe for the past two summers. I forget the style name but they're a,thick stretchy knit. Their cotton tees are nice and theres always a shoe I like, but I don't like the rayon tops and the recent jeans I tried didn't fit as well as previous years.
I'm not a fan of the usual color palette either.

      Delete
    4. Sigh. So much for creating a group chat, the purpose of which is to listen to customers' complaints. I and a few others in the group have asked that Madewell veer away from the color palette of mustard yellow, which has dominated Madewell for at least 4 seasons.

      Delete
    5. LOL nice to know I'm not going crazy when I obsess over the fact that Madewell sticks exclusively to warm yellows and other warm tones. I actually like their spring preview, though, or maybe I just like it better than what I've seen of J. Crew's new season so far.

    2. I have them in both colors and agree they fit tts. I wear them frequently with boots and flats. I’ve had them a couple of winters and they’ve worn very well. I would recommend buying them on sale. At full price, you can buy a better brand like Vince when they hit winter sales at 40% off for a little bit more than J Crew’s full price.

  9. No visit yet from me as the snow is keeping my errands down to the minimal things. I do need to return the leopard high waisted bikini bottoms and top (I'm inbetween a S and a M at a size 6), leopard tee, and a few other things. There's been some great sale deals (like the $2 pieces of jewelry for my toddler and faux leopard scarf for her for $3).

I saw some of the spring/summer items on their Instagram and meh, it doesn't look true to the brand. More Free People/Anthro in my opinion. Maybe they're just showcasing the non-showstoppers?

    4. Hoping J.Crew isn't afraid to remain preppy. Too bad they don't promote 'Slow Fashion' like another JCA mentioned. Maybe their Eco Denim is a positive sign at least. I think they could appeal to new customers with things like that while not totally abandoning their roots.

  10. my New JCrew goal this week...is to resist stockpiling.

  11. @Natalya, I purchased them at 50% off and returned them. I don’t care for the elastic waist. They stretch so size down. To me they weren’t worth 1/2 price. There is a seller on EBay who ships from Boca Raton,Fl that always has them priced a lot less and with free shipping. Just my humble opinion. I know there are people that like them, they don’t suit my lifestyle. Apologize for the negative review.

I hope I can style the red ones ok. I wear my red patent leather Sophia pumps often and have several red flats I wear, but the boots definitely make more of a statement.

    1. jcrew standby of chambray shirt. (hahaha)

maybe something like a light beige sweater? i saw this: http://candacemread.com/groundbreaking-florals-for-fall/

i would think pink would be good with them too... maybe just a brighter pink?

      Delete
    2. I don't recall the exact colors and not sure my screen is accurate, but I wonder how a deep espresso or eggplant might look, maybe with a light colored shirt underneath. I may have only seen the bag in person which may have been a bit darker, I like the pattern although not colors I typically wear so take my advice with a grain of salt.

    3. Oh that pic is pretty Ms. JR.

    4. The midnight floral print is heavy in terms of pattern and color. I would suggest light textures or colors for the top as a balance. Airy silk chiffon or plisse details around the shoulders, neckline or bodice in shades of egg white, blue grey, violet smoke, celadon blue or green, would suffice.

But then, going in the opposite direction, You can simply wear a milk white or tangerine heavy silk top to lighten the mood significantly. The tangerine shade should be one that rivals the vibrancy of Sicilian oranges. :D

  15. I was trying to be strong and not shop but I ended up buying some sale items including another velour lined hoody (wearing my navy right now to lounge around the house after work with kiddos and it’s so comfy). I preordered two items since I was paying for shipping to Canada- the new vintage tee in light yellow (tried unsuccessfully to find a nice light yellow last summer) and the white puff sleeve blouse. I was obsessed with the similar Thomas Mason one that made me look like a clown when I tried it (due to enormous sleeves) so I can’t resist trying this one just in case. The Thomas mason one was also very thin and sheer which was surprising. I have and love the tuxedo blouse from Thomas mason so I was surprised at the balloon sleeve one.

    1. @jan, I ordered the tee in the same color. I hope it’s as pretty as the color they had back in 2013 or thereabouts.

  16. @Miss JR, Love your comment! I was waiting for a response like this ha ha! I wonder collectively how many chambray shirts all of us here own? Probably enough to stock a wearhouse! And more standby gray right? I like the idea of a brighter pink, I tried cashmere neon fuscia, sunset pink and they somewhat overpowered the pants. I will look further into the old Jcrew cashmere colors that I have, perhaps I might find the right pink. Heather aqua in the same cashmere featherweight tee? I never thought of your suggestion of beige. Thanks so much for sharing the link and suggestions. I will check it out now.

The Abigail Borg Silk pants are so pretty! I'd try mint on top instead of pink. Or olive to offset the all the girly-ness.

    1. I liked those pants a lot. Didn't work for me but I tried. I would like them with army green like p banos. The green cotton tie waist jacket (the pants tie also, though, don't they?) or a field mechanic jacket. If I wanted to go full feminine I'd do a white cotton top, or all girly, white lace.

  18. I stopped by the store this morning to make a few returns. I decided to keep the 6T in the tweed cap sleeve dress (that matches the going out jacket) and returned the 8. The velvet mockneck went back as well as the tux stripe pants - while I liked them I was having a moment of feeling overwhelmed by all I've purchased lately so back they went.

Sale was 60% off in store and they were putting out the new merchandise which meant the shelves were pretty much empty. Fine with me, less to distract me. I perused sale briefly - miles and miles of velvet tanks, lace pants and velvet wrap tops. A few coats - some cocoon coats and I spotted a size 6 camel regent topcoat. I left emptyhanded. I'm glad the sale ends tonight - no more and no shop February here I come...

  19. I sent Hubs off with the first returns from the items that arrived while I was in the hospital.
    RETURN
    1. Hoodie in everyday cashmere: I would not wear this for free. Thin, shapeless, homely buttons. Back it goes!
2.Velvet Mockneck: Mentioned this before - the fit is fine the red color is dull and brownish. I do have a black one coming, which I will like.
    3. Men's leather gloves with "cashmere" lining. JCrew deceived. A cashmere goat may have passed wind over the lining, but it is NOT cashmere. Other than that, they are ok gloves, but not nicer than what he has. Even at $9 return. I'd rather buy nicer gloves in the future.

    KEEP
1.Slim stretch Secret Wash shirt in speckled pink He looks well in pink, this is good for work.
    2. Slim Ludlow stretch two-ply easy-care cotton dress shirt in dobby print Dark navy that nearly looks black. Also good for work, with the acorn Ludlow trousers I have yet to hem.
    3. Slim stretch corduroy shirt, dark pacific. Good for winter casual wear. It runs a bit smaller than other JCrew shirts, but is stretchy. Not tight on him, just more fitted in a good way.
He also has cord pants from the crazy mens sale in the same color. Hopefully will not try and wear them together.
    4. Probably keep Tall wide-leg cropped pant in corduroy. I have the caramel color pants and blazer. The color 'frosty olive' is a good description. I am not sure about duplicating, but these pants are really lovely. This pair looks good with my older Wool Military Jacket (the one with many small buttons) which gives me another reason to keep them. Between Tall length and the wider hem, I can get these to full length. But I like them ok a little short worn with loafers.
    5. Mens cashmere watch cap heather burgundy. This is a perfectly nice hat, not thin, and nicer than any other beanie for the sale price. Much more likely to see me wearing this than the Mr.
    6. Dark green plaid boxers, these are nicer than some *luxury* brands we have tried. For $2, I wish we could have snagged more than one pair. They are a bit large, but he wears them for sleep.
    7. Windowpane cashmere scarf in charcoal. This actually is cashmere and is almost as nice and soft as an acrylic scarf. Anyway, for $10 is a good basic for him with the topcoat or leather jacket.

    1. Refund $ on three items: $65
