This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this
post) says it best, "You know, that thing you
bought because you love it and you keep pulling it
out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please
share your J.Crew item (either that you own or
are thinking about getting) that you would love help
creating an outfit with.
Also,
please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel
free to include links to your blog (where you
incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you
showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance!

Style comment and question. I just returned from a ski/Sundance Film Festival trip and almost every outfit I wore was J Crew (except ski gear). Lots of compliments and a friend said, “You could be a fashion stylist!” I laughed, but it made me realize how much my own style has been influenced by J Crew and JCAs’ inspiration. There’s no other retailer like it, despite the problems of late. So thanks, y’all. Everyone is unique but some things like beautiful colors and pattern mixing are very J Crew, so I’m wondering ... how would you define it and what makes J Crew style? Any specific colors/styles or outfits that define it?
ReplyDeleteThere tends to be something fun, but not necessarily childish or even whimsical, in a lot of what I picture as j.crew style. Good question, ruffles!
DeleteI like that, Monica - yeah, it's joyful without being childish. Even though I most often wear neutrals and stripes, the colors and prints make me smile.
DeleteSequins and embellishment, for anytime, not just dress up.
DeleteThis totally reminds me of one of my first JCrew pieces, a sequined hoodie from 199/2000. I don't remember if it was cashmere but it had sequins and was black. Well we had two little girls at the time and somehow got tix to a in a NYC. it was a night out for us and I wore the hoodie. I remember waiting in line for the show and somehow we ran into someone my husband knew who knew the headliner, and another one of the comics was a relative of mine. The headliner came on and proceeded to make fun of my hoodie, calling me a fairy girl. (Not in a bad way, in a comic way.) well I don't remember what I did with the hoodie but don't think I wore it again and today I wish I had it!
That to me is so Jcrew. A classic piece one could wear with jeans or dressed up, just made special in some slightly unexpected way.
Suz, I had that exact same sequin hoodie with the matching racer back tank. I wore it for NYE with black velvet jeans. If I remember correctly, it was some sort of thin wool blend. Pretty sure I still have it stored somewhere. Loved that outfit!
DeleteThanks for all the feedback on what I should wear for work photos today!! I went with a green long sleeve ponte dress - I brought a blue blazer but didn't put it on. I wore small hoops that I think will look nice. I realized I don't have many short statement necklaces, so hopefully it won't look too plain! Pic on insta (lep33shops).
ReplyDeleteJust ran over to insta...you look GREAT! The color is very flattering on you, and I like that the earrings have the small knot for some extra visual interest and oomph. Very, very pretty.
DeleteThe green is the perfect choice for your coloring. And the photographer will do a great job.
Deletethank you Cheri! p banos - your professional feedback was really helpful!
DeleteLove the color on you, great choice!
DeleteFantastic choice, that's a great color on you!
