Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Crew this {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  1. I went by the 347 Madison store for returns. The store's closing sale looked like where all the unloved things from JCrew go to die. Barely anything for anyone between the sizes 0 and 10. Lots of sweatshirts, word tees, plaid button downs, Polartec fleece. I picked up the pull-on lace pants in red and a velour hoodie, both of which I was only nominally interested in but knew I would get some use out of. The SA at the register didn't automatically apply the extra 20% off the purchase as JCrew's email indicated; I had to ask twice, which was not that nice of them. If they really wanted to clear inventory from that location before the end of the month, it would make more sense to let every customer walking in that there's an additional percentage off, to motivate anyone who might be on the fence about buying final sale to make the plunge. There are good deals but since every store is having winter clearance sales now without the final sale, it makes more sense for JCrew to publicize the incentive.

    1. When I went to my local Chester NJ store that is closing they were also'hush hush' about the extra 20%. Which seemed silly since 1. There was a sign posted that said it
      2. You have to be a rewards member to get the discount.

    2. My B&M closed 2 Januarys ago and had no sale/additional % at the time because they were shipping the merchandise to other locations. Although it sounds like there are a lot of crazy deals to be had at the 2019 closing stores, it's kind of sad that it's because they have no other place for the items to go and just need them gone.

    3. That's how I felt silver_lining. Especially since there is a lot of crossover in shoppers at Chester and Short Hills. When they have huge sales like this, I always think they have to make a debt payment and are just trying to raise money to last in business another month.

    4. When Ottawa closed recently (on Black Friday weekend) 4 days before closing there was no additional discount, just the same promo as all stores. Not sure if the last couple of days were different.

    5. @jan Yeah, I was surprised they didn’t amp up the discount when the Ottawa store closed, I went in with a few days to go and they sure weren’t offering anything close to the deals the US stores are offering.

    6. Re: Ottawa, my understanding about the Canadian store closures is that until the Eaton Centre one closed, the prior stores didn't do liquidation sales because the inventory was going to be transfered to other stores. I suspect the Eaton Centre was different with the 60% and 70% off sales bc it's the flagship store, so they had too much inventory that the remaining Canadian stores couldn't take in?

    7. Same here.... went to do returns, 347 Madison ....women’s section is looking empty... Mens was full... lots of men shopping. They had triple amount of stuff on Friday... I picked up another cashmere wrap and box of socks, and a silver bracelet... Had to ask for the 20off as well.
I want then to bring out stuff from their basement, that might of been there since 2013-14 season.... lol.... otherwise no reason to go back.... it’s looking empty....

    8. Do stores really still have inventory going back several years in their stockrooms? I think I heard that rumor awhile ago but thought it was unique to that persons location.

  2. Is there a list of stores anywhere that are closing?

  3. Sent back a pair of Collection Watercolor Floral Silk lined pants size 6 which were too large for me. E9417. I already have a pair in a smaller size, so grab them while you can. They just showed arrived so system should update to reflect availability. Another item returned is the Collection Italian Cashmere Featherweight V Neck sweater. The GREAT one! Dark Moss Medium. You shouldn't pay more than $50.00 for the pants tops and 30.00 for the sweater.

  4. Are orders still taking a long time to ship for everyone? Ordered some great menswear deals on 1-9. Two items shipped right away, one was canceled, and the rest?? They aren't promised until 1-22 (2 weeks after the order date) so hopeful they are just slow and they will ship at some point.

    1. I've placed several orders in the last week - my 1/8 order shipped right away but isn't showing delivery until this Friday. Just checked the tracking and it's in town so I'm guessing I will see sooner than that. My orders from Thursday and the weekend (yes, I placed a few more...oops) have yet to ship and all showed est. delivery dates of 1/22 or so.

    2. I am still waiting to receive the plaid tippi I ordered 1/03, although it has shipped I have already received another order placed the following day. Waiting on all my menswear sale items from super sale day, as well as a few more places since then to show movement. Same as Anne, scheduled for 1/21 or 1/22 delivery🤞🏻...

  5. Was running an errand and stopped in. Sign outside said 25 percent off for card holders. Inside a sales associate told me sale was 50 off and regular was 25 off. I asked if the 25 off for card holders was in addition and she said it wasn't, lol, what's the point?

I tried on the wide leg trouser jeans in the darker wash as the lighter one I like wasn't available in 24 or 25. The 24 fit but was too short to look good even with sneakers. I'm only 5'6" and I'd need the tall.

Otherwise sale section was same old, same old, at 50% off

    1. Those varying inseams! My new light wash trouser jeans work with booties, and I have a long inseam...

    2. Also got the ruffle pocket blazer in glen plaid in the first size I ordered when one size down was a bit tight, although reviews say to size down that wasn't the best for me. I tried it a few ways and like it, but not the pockets. Unfortunately it is wider in the size up but I think it still looks ok. Posting pics on IG.
sadly I have a handful of blazers I just don't love so I hesitate to add more but this works with a tee shirt or dressed up so I'll have no excuse.

    3. P banos, they were short on me. Kind of in between a crop flare and pooling. I don't know what the inseam is but i couldn't wear it.

      Delete
    4. Maybe they were mis-marked petites! Supposedly 32", though mine are over 32 1/2". (My Ashbury flares are truly 32" and I wear them with sneakers.) Tall at 35" would need hemming for me.

      Delete
    5. I don't think they carry petite in store, 32 is usually right for me for flats.

      Delete
    6. Huh, I,guess my legs are longer than I thought. It's been so long since I've bought full length pants. My inseam is 32 barefoot, so for a heel I'd need about 34

      Delete
    7. Same as me, I do not wear super high heels, so 34" is my long inseam. My Gap jeans are Long length, which is between regular and tall at 33-34" and they work with lower heels. Wish J Crew did that, since I either get sneaker length or end up having to take off 1/2 - 1".

    8. I tried the jeans when they were first released and also found them to be slightly too short, even with flats. I haven't tried the tall ones yet. I need a 34/35 depending on what shoes I'd wear. I'm 5'8" and seems like I have a similar inseam to both of you :)

    9. I guess this is why it's easier to sell ankle length bottoms.

  7. I am really saddened to hear so many stores are closing. I hope J. Crew can come out of this slump, but I don't think turning to factory is going to be the solution. Returning to quality basics, classics with a twist, and even coming out with an archival collection could help jumpstart a "Crew renaissance" since I know there are customers still waiting for old Jackies, Ceces, the gorgeous silk prints and the cashmere that holds up. In cleaning out my closet and taking out older J. Crew pieces that no longer fit my lifestyle, I am reminded of how great the quality and how wonderful the designs were. It is hard to part with these items, because I know that "they don't make them like they used to." I believe in you, J. Crew, I know you can head in the right direction. If only you would listen to the advice from this blog!

    1. It makes me sad and kind of frustrated that it's pretty clear what some of the issues are and where they can be solved, but the company doesn't seem to get it :( It feels very 'executive level not in touch with what's going on at the store level' to me, honestly.

    2. I think JC is still rightsizing itself after the too-fast expansion. Also I think when they were in a hurry to add stores, they were probably paying a premium on rent. The retail atmosphere is much different now, with malls and large retailers closing and the move to e-commerce much more apparent. I would be interested if their concept store has significantly different results than regular B&Ms. I don’t mind them closing stores if it means taking those savings and applying it back to the product.

  8. Received my 1988 Rollneck today. Question for you ladies, did yours have a sewn green tag that read “JCrew Always” ? I hadn’t seen these before. Initially I thought maybe I’d received a Factory item by mistake,

    1. When the 1988 rollneck sweaters were first released, they had the old J Crew tag. But I think when they did their My Crew or whatever rebranding this past fall, they replaced some of the old labels with the new sub-brand ones. (ie. the seaside pants now have Point Sur tags.) So the rollneck you have is the same as the earlier re-released ones, just with a new tag for the re-branding; the style number, fabric composition, etc. should still be the exact same.

    2. I bought a striped,rugby shirt that showed up,with that label too

    3. As far as I know (full disclosure, I worked at J Crew until recently), any of the 1988 heritage items that were manufactured past whenever J Crew decided to re-brand with the different sub-brands (eg. Point Sur, jcrewjeans, etc.) would have had the green J Crew Always tags sewn to the back instead of the original navy J Crew ones. So that would include the rugby shirts, rollnecks, etc. that were originally re-leased long before then. They're definitely retail items, and the same as the ones that would have had the original tags, if that makes any sense. But it's definitely confusing and I don't think the company ever explained the change to customers.

    4. I only recently noticed that J.Crew Always is listed as a brand on their website.

  9. I bought a flannel boy shirt (K3742) that has that dark green "J Crew Always" tag. strange.

  10. Camo???

So I searched JCA, and found a thread from 2009 with almost unanimous condemnation of a camo jacket from a runway show.

Now in 2018, I see camo boyfriends, camo skinny cargo, a camo sweater, camo tote...what do the JCA's say 9 years later?

    1. For me it's still a No. Blue chambray camo pants for my child is all I've conceded to this trend, but I live in an area where the people wearing camo are likely as not actually hunters!

    2. I have been, and always will be, loving on camp. That does not mean slap camo on any ugly design and I’m gonna be here for it.
Proud to say my 5 1/2 year old very stylish son, also loves it!

    3. I have two camo jackets, one is a pink/ivory/beige with a tie waist. (Good for hiding in Barbieland) and the other a green/blue/beige mix.

But I'm not sure how I would do with camo pants? I keep thinking about getting them and then changing my mind.

Always interesting to me that hunters wear camo in 'woodland' colors, but of course the animals do not see colors the same way as humans. So they are hiding really really well from other hunters, which is probably not a good idea. It makes more sense to wear a 'camo' print in blaze orange, which hides from animals and not from humans. After all, camo was originally developed to hide from humans. Hiding from animals is different. Just sayin'! Not that I hunt, or want to hide in the woods.

    4. I love my camo foundry pants and camo tippi. Even more when I wear them together which I think is just really funny. As Ina said when I first put the outfit on, "fighting the fashion war." As much as I don't wear tons of pattern, I feeel like wearing pattern head to toe works.
I'd say this summer i wore my camo foundry pants as much as I wore my favorite slouchy jeans. Even though they're heavy cotton, I sized up and I was super comfy wearing them loose.

    5. @Sarah we get some hunters too, but not too many with rusty pickups & gun racks. Around here it is more likely Escalades!

@Cheritheberry and @Suz Has you guys are making me reconsider a pair of camo pants. If the foundry ones popped up in a 2 I would get them in a second. I love the green foundry pants, but they are super big on me now since I've lost more weight since I bought them...they are my go to comfort pants. With all the room I've been wearing them with long underwear on the coldest days.
