Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. After not doing any Boxing Day shopping of any kind I stopped in at my local outlet mall last night. Factory was 60% off of clearance and various sales of up to 50% off regular price. I tried on the Plaid Shirt in Glen Plaid Multi (K3361) and found it to fit very small. The Large was pulling across my chest, which never happens for me. I didn’t bother looking for an XL to try as I had already decided that though I love that particular plaid, it would be better for me as a scarf and not a shirt.

  2. This looks bleak for the company.

    1. Make that 6 closures as the article doesn’t mention the Ottawa store closing in November. As the article notes, the Eaton Centre is the busiest mall in North America, so if J.Crew can’t make it there, they’re pretty much doomed.

    2. Yes. It's sad but I think they have to be pulling out. I can easily see a future with no stores in Canada. They will probably continue to make international shipping available through iParcel to Canada as long as they are available to other countries. I'm been lucky to have been able to make in store returns of online J Crew purchases for the last couple of years and will miss this if it ends, but perhaps it will be better for me if I have to think harder about my purchases because returns are harder.

I don't want JCAs to get tired of my constant suggestion of using PayPal to pay for online purchases (I swear, I am not paid by them), but for those who don't have access to store returns (or fear they will soon longer have access) the paid return cost service that PayPal offers is amazing. But that has to end at some point because I don't see what PayPal gets out of it.

    3. @Toronto Modern, I didn't know about that until you mentioned it. Thanks.

  3. HI, Sarah J.

You're welcome. It's pretty awesome. They will (or at least currently) cover up to 12 claims of up to $30 each claim every year.

Cutting and pasting from my previous JCA post (with apologies to JCAs who are tired of reading about PayPal):

"For those JCAs who are having issues keeping track of refunds arising from returns and price adjustments - this is not a complete answer, but I've started paying with PayPal. I started paying with PayPal because they announced they were closing down the Toronto Eaton Center store so I wanted the ability to use the PayPal refund costs refund benefit in case I returned by mail, but I discovered an additional benefit to using PayPal. When J Crew (i-parcel) processes a refund, I get an email from PayPal telling me the amount of the refund and as an added bonus the email also give me the J Crew order number associated with the refund. This is so much better than wondering if the price adjustment went through and trying to go through the credit card statements and puzzle out what the price adjustment amount must have been for a particular order. Or calling the 1-800 number and waiting to ask whether the refund has gone through and for what amount.

Clearly, if I find it a pain to track the refunds I am buying too much! (But that's a post for another day) And PayPal is not a complete fix, but I am finding it helps a lot.

Please note that if you are paying with PayPal, you have two opportunities during the checkout process to pay with PayPal : (1) you can click the PayPal button instead of "check out now"; or (2) you can click "check out now" and then when it takes you to the payment options page, you can select PayPal. I only use the 2nd method because I remember a JCA mentioned that if you use the 1st method that the order doesn't end up in your complete history.

Please also note that I have never placed a US order so maybe things might be different for US orders placed via PayPal. Can any US JCAs confirm that US orders get the same refund emails from PayPal?"

  4. Question for those of you with more experience regarding the behind-the-scenes mechanics of J Crew.

About this time last year I "rediscovered" J Crew, and went on a few-month bender whereby I was checking for pop-backs around the clock while spending like a drunken sailor stocking my closet with J Crew pants, shirts, sweaters, etc. I've been much more subdued this sale season; I generally have everything I need (if that's conceivable) and for whatever reason very little has caught my eye on the site.

    Until last night.

I came across a lambswool rollneck sweater in a color they're calling Heather Clay, and I freaked at first sight: I couldn't decide if I wanted to wear it or eat it. They were only showing XS available in that color, but I know from past experience that a simple call to a store when sold-out online usually yields a send-sale in short order.

The San Francisco store advised the system shows only one in my size, and it's in a store on the East Coast. I called that store only to find that they had sent a box back to "the warehouse" earlier in the day, and it included the sweater in question.

"It's not going to show up online, I'm afraid; it is earmarked for a tent sale. Unfortunately, there is no way to track it down at this point," the store clerk told me.

I then called into CS, where the phone rep told me she was seeing one in the system, though it wasn't in any store and it wasn't available for purchase. My only hope, in her opinion, would be an unlikely pop-back at this late stage.

The particular color disappeared as an option on the site last night, and it hasn't been on there today either. On a whim I called CS this morning as something of a Hail Mary. The CS person said, "Well...I see one in the system that isn't in a store, but it IS available for purchase. I don't know what did or didn't take place yesterday, but you're in luck."

Here is my question: WHAT HAPPENED?

I arranged the purchase with the CS rep this morning, and sure enough, it shows in my order history as a purchased item in progress. Am I getting my hopes up for nothing? What does "System shows 1 but it isn't in a store nor available for sale" as opposed to "System shows 1 that isn't in a store but it *is* available for sale" as was this case this morning? Even though it is listed in my purchase history, is it still possible I may get a womp-womp email saying, "So sorry, but the item you purchased is unavailable"...?

    Thanks!

    1. That sounds like yesterday, inventory could track it but it wasn't entered into the system as something someone could actually find.
Today it sounds like inventory actually processed the return, that it's in a warehouse somewhere that a worker can find it and pack it, but inventory hadn't update the website yet to make it available for the public to find and buy. I call this the gray area where my former VPS had been able to find items on my wishlist and buy them for me before the items were put back on shelves/online for the public to see and buy.

    2. Thanks eeps--

There was one in a store that just got shipped out yesterday afternoon--obviously that one wouldn't have arrived in Lynchburg (or wherever their warehouse is) by this morning. I'm assuming that the one "in the system" that wasn't for sale last night is a different sweater; a pop-back that got processed this morning?

      Delete
    3. @every Mann
Usually if there are online returns in the store they get shipped back every few days.
Every item gets scanned (and is back in the system that way) even it takes a while till it is actually back in the warehouse and the inventory.
      Hope that makes sense.

    1. The night it changed from 60 to 40 off there was a significant update to sale. Some interesting popbacks like the double.faced cashmere button skirt (not my size). Maybe 1-2 am eastern. I was too tired to really look at all the pages, and by the next day, much of the 'new' stuff was gone. I did grab a couple pair of shoes and some crewcuts.

  6. Reposting here from yesterday, since I'm only giving myself a few days before sending the return back:

In one of my twilight hour visits to the website I managed to snag the Everyday cashmere colorblock long cardigan (Item J0963) in both XXS and XS. I am keeping the XS for myself since I put my sweaters in the washer, so I am going to be sending back the XXS. Does anybody here want it? I'm selling for what I paid (% off and student discount) plus shipping, about $49 total. I love this sweater and would love a JCA to get it!
It is the blue cardi, and that my email is bankygirl @ gmail . com.

  7. I know many on here are implementing spending freezes, but... Lord and Taylor have some great deals on other brands. I grabbed some Sam Edelman boots (regularly $225) for $67.50. Things are going quickly, but there are still some things available.

I also got the Mercantile tie-neck sweater dress this week. It's so cute. It's a blend, but I like the little detail and don't mind the blend for what I paid.

    3. My store was 60% off sale too. Called CS to place a pant order and they honored it.

  9. Another of my 60% off purchases arrived: the wide leg ponte crop in navy. Not sure I would like the short and wide style, but these are really nice pants. The fabric is dense and comfortable. I'd say they run slightly small, do not size down. I can see them working great in Spring and Fall for the office or any long car trip. Don't think they will see winter wear, since I don't have any high boots. Well that gives me time to figure out how I will style them. I think with a turtleneck bodysuit for a sleek look, or a cropped cardigan. When it's warmer a cropped shell might work too.

  10. Received the SZ Kitty dress today from the 60% off sale. I got my usual dress size and it was perfect. The dress looks like something between a 50s house coat and a prairie dress - which sounds mumsy but I kind of like it. I’ll be going to Hawaii this spring and I can definitely walk out the door with it and no one would blink an eye (in NYC I think ppl would think I’m wearing a sleepshirt).

I also got the block heel pumps with the bows and glitter heel. Fits TTS, feels a bit heavy I assume from the thick heel. The height is comfortable but due to the weight I think I’ll leave them at work for officewear. Don’t think I can do a 10-12 hour day in them.

  12. Large sale update! Final Sale still, so I know some of us will abstain. I'm on staycation and enjoying a favorite obsession. Can't believe I was able to order the suede over-the-knee boots in black on sale. I may swoon if they fit. I've been wanting this style for years, but I'm a lazy shopper, and had to wait for J.Crew to make their version to find it. I had a near-find at a thrift store last year, but the made-in-Italy soles were quite literally plastic and unforgivable.I wonder if there are any unicorn popbacks with this update.

    1. Good luck with the OTK boots. I stalked and bought a Nine West pair at Saks Off 5th in the spring but have yet to wear them. I still love them, just need the right weather (and mood) to make them work. We had a long warm fall and then instant winter this year.

No unicorn popbacks for me, I think you get more of those on the US site due to the ship-from-store capability. I did see a pair of Lottie flats in Fall Floral listed (FA16?), but they were already sold out and the listing was gone a few minutes later. Also no price drops on any of my stalked items.

  13. I know JCAs are looking to buy less, but if you are looking for a great hoodie, the velour lined hoodie sweatshirt is my favorite for layering at home. Some of the colors are showing up as final sale once it hits the cart, but others are not. If you wanted to try one on for size, you could see if you can get a non final sale color. I can wear both XS and S but prefer the slouchier S fit. It's about $40 CAD with the extra 50% off so I would guess it's about $30 US?

  14. If you have a cart with saved sale items, check it. A pair of jeans I've been following was no longer marked"final sale". I went ahead and purchased them to try.

  15. I”ll second the velour lined hoodie - so comfy. Ordered the ivory in medium and large to check the sizing, and ultimately decided to keep the medium for a less relaxed fit. The large was a little too slouchy. I’m crossing my fingers it doesn’t shrink too much in the wash (imo, the sleeves are about 1/2 inch shorter than they should be). I ordered the navy color for $35 yesterday (not final sale).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi, LolaNY.

I agree that the sleeves are shorter than expected. I'm 5 ft tall so that's a good thing for me, but for those who are not shorties, sleeve length may be an issue (although I don't recall any of the website reviewers mentioning int.)

As always, no final sale is safer for online purchases unless you have tried on.

      Delete
    2. @Toronto Modern - I'm 5'8 so sleeve length is important. One review did mention shrinking in the dryer. I have been burned a few times with Jcrew final sale, so I don't partake unless I've already tried on the item. And even that is a bit dicey, because sometimes different colors can fit differently. So final sale is a self-inflicted wound that I avoid. I really do miss old Jcrew (and Banana and Gap and Ann Taylor)

  16. Purchased a pair of Gemma Flats in the leopard pattern to gift for someone in U.S. $11.00

  17. That’s weird - none of my items showed up as final sale in the cart. I picked up the princess mini in gold - was waiting for my size to show up for weeks, and never saw the color in a store. And now today it’s already on sale. Geez JCrew, give your customers a little time to find stuff at full price first! I also saw the collection floral sweater for the first time today - in the sale section. JC really needs to slow their sales cycles.
Since I was placing an order for the skirt, I also picked up two velvet tanks to try - navy with star print and tartan. I avoid velvet like the plague but the prices were very good and the prints look lush. Happy that they’re not final sale in case I regret the risks.

The timing of the sale update and jump from 40 to 50 off sale is suspect. I think it had to do with the 25% coupons folks got for forgoing late holiday shipping, which expired yesterday.

    1. Oh interesting. I have a few things in my cart. I'm reluctant since my New Years order is still showing up as placed, not even processed.
The high waist wool pants in red and black plaid. I like these, have similar pair(s) in solid black. For $60 and change is it worth it? Not final sale.
Velvet mockneck tops for $10? That might be worth it.
My bill was much higher than I expected and I'm trying to make sure it is accurate. Still I sold a lot on Poshmark which makes it not as bad but, gulp.

    2. The funnel neck shirt with jeweled buttons is on sale now, but with a full size run I’m hoping it will go lower. The style isn’t the best in me but eventually I’ll just size up and call it a day. Can’t resist plaid.
I want to pull the trigger on the black watch plaid perfect shirt. Will it go lower than $32.49 or whatever it is? (Sorry can’t tab back while typing)

    3. I like those funnelneck tops too, easy holiday look. I'm waiting myself since I already have two that I don't wear...lol...

What do you think of the high waisted pants I mentioned? I saw them in store but didn't try them on. They're a lightweight wool, could wear them all year.

I'm also thinking about the Stewart plaid puffer scarf. Silly but cute.

    2. sorry JCA's but I have been here before. I wait until prices are super low and then buy. usually this is well after the season I would wear the item in. If I really had wanted /needed it the I should have purchased it earlier and used/worn it during the season item came out in. my theory of "wearing items next year" only seems to work once in the blue moon.
just because its super cheap....is not my go to reason to order anymore. I have turned over a new leaf. no more stock pile of item for next winter ....Next year new styles are more enticing
not to rain on everyones 'Sale ' parade...but in the past i have just wasted more $$ on these purchases...just because they were os cheap.

    3. You're right, Cher, I didn't think those red black plaid pants warranted the price and I'm better off with my solid black. And thanks for the info re the scarf.

      Which jeans? Red wash?

    4. @Unknown, it sounds like you're coming from a good place. I, too, used to buy because of price, getting a top I liked in Leftover, a color I didn't want to wear, mostly because then I couldn't afford to be choosy at J.Crew. But that mentality permeated all my shopping and I became accustomed to buying heavily discounted items. I wasted a lot of money and wore things I didn't really love.

I totally agree with not buying because the price is just too good.

However, buying great pieces at a good sale price has been working for me the last few years. I defined my style, likes and dislikes, on paper, and became more mindful. For me, buying out of season has worked out really well. I learned to recognize what I like, and since I don't go in for super trendy pieces like cold-shoulder, I've done well. I've learned to resist buying things that I wouldn't want at full price. That has really become easier, though, since more J.Crew items make it to sale these days, and often they are still in season. In the 60 plus 25 off sale, I got a swimsuit for 2.99, but it's in navy/ivory stripe and my size and style.

I will sometimes pay full price for something, kind of as a Thank You to J.Crew for doing an awesome job.

Anyhow, I've appreciated your no-buy input here on JCA. Just wanted to add a counterpoint that one can still shop the sales and be mindful.

      Delete
    5. @Unknow, definitely not trying to discourage in any way. Buying smarter and less in general is a noble goal. Best wishes!

      Delete
    6. @unknown - you're not raining on everyone's parade. I think people to find a way of shopping that suits them best. If I do buy after the season, I find that I do wear the item. But if I led with price point as the motivating factor, that clothing piece usually ended up in the donate pile, unworn. In any event, I Konmari'd my clothes a few years ago, and it radically changed how and how much I shop. So I don't shop with sales googles on, and I don't keep clothing that I love the idea of, or that kinda fit, or simply because the price was right.

    7. Now if the scarf gets cheap, that’s another story! But it was too short to knit in any way. I meant redwood wash, not red lol. Yeah no fs on them!
I saw the buffalo plaid shirt in madewell. I think YOU could do a lot with that. It has a Suz feel. Get it for less though, right?
I returned the $24 sale Demi bootcuts from last round and Blythe blouse in black I hadn’t reached for.

    8. Also to your point - I almost pulled the trigger on an old school Jcrew angora/rabbit/cashmere cable crew neck sweater on Poshmark. I think I bought my original one in 2004ish? I had two - a beautiful lemon color and a vibrant dark green (avocado?). But then I remembered why I had to recycle them - they pilled and shrunk after a few years. Basically, they were done with me before I was done with them! I was so sad. I finally looked around for better quality replacement. We'll see if the Brooks Brothers dupe that I ordered holds up any better. It was much more expensive, but I'm hoping the quality is there.

      Delete
    9. Cheri, did you see the red Buffalo check with the tie neck at Madewell, not the short sleeve one? I was there thurs and didn't see it. Online It's 55 and 40 off which is fairly typical of Madewell pricing.

Also, you're talking about the puffer scarf being too short right? Although the more I think about it the more I realize it's not something I need even at $20.

      Delete
    10. @unknown and everyone else, I think it's a valid conversation to have. I also like to buy off season or when I see something. I almost prefer that to buying it when it first comes out so I don't see myself coming and going. I'd rather wear it the next year.
I'm perfectly happy that I got the tartan Parke blazer, some velvet shoes, etc last year at the end of the season and wore it a few times over the year and this holiday season. I feel if I buy a few festive pieces each year they'll get worn for years.

      Delete
    11. I am an off season shopper too. This discussion made me curious, so I looked back at my purchases for 2017-2018. Excluding summer items I picked up at the end of 2018, I wore everything except one sweater dress, and a beautiful wool skirt(But I've been working from home most of this winter so far due to surgeries) and some socks/underwear/tshirts/shorts/jeans that I bought in duplicates because I liked them (and the price) and figured I would wear them in two years or so when the originals look worn. The main reason I bought some new things at this year end is my weight loss - some of my pants are just unwearable now. But if I keep buying now I will know I have a problem, because I am fully stocked up! Hopefully I'll just enjoy seeing what everyone else is wearing :)

      Delete
    12. @Suz, yes it was there today at the price you mentioned. They had another, regular button up, right next to it. Yes the scarf! I’m still getting used to this keyboard, I apologize for the multitude of typos lately!

I will always unapologetically be an off season shopper and I’m always so excited to have new things ready to wear when the time rolls around. The end.

      Delete
    13. I’m also an off season shopper. I stock up on cashmere and wool coats during the end of spring and July sales, and I pick up t shirts and sandals in midwinter. I actually find it gels with my closet cleaning schedule too, because by the time I have all my summer stuff washed and ready to be stored, I go through and donate the too worn/too tight/too short stuff and then I have a better idea of what I need to replenish. Same with winter stuff - I go through it all at the beginning of summer. I’ll also admit that I am not trendy so anything I buy can work year after year. The only thing that really changes for me is color. This winter I’m really into tonal dressing, which doesn’t require me to buy a whole new wardrobe but just look at new ways to wear things I already own. I just packed up a box to send to Thredup and the output will be the same as the input from the recent sales, so my closet isn’t going to explode as I dreaded when my orders finally arrive.

    14. Didn't mean to say off season shopping is always a bad idea. I just seems to be for me. but i do find that waiting/watching for prices to get to the lowest..is another chore i am looking forward to not having to do. I have alot of shoes i got for very good prices..but sit unworn. never really needed them.In the past my stock piling of items for next winter were particularly poor choices on my part.my life style was just not the same aS WANT i thought it was....
those dressey items for parties were never worn, shoes never out of the box etc..
a few days ago I did a huge donation drop off. two new J Crew cocoon coats and numerous other shirts and pants. J Crew jewellery was my weakness. loved it but yet never wore any of it. so its gone now..and I fell really good about it. I do not want to order anymore necklaces! finally a break through.
so my reason for not shopping and not shopping for next year are pretty clear for me. but then again i have been at this for quite awhile and once the Sa's in store start commenting on how much you buy/return....the embarrassment was another flag for me.I dreaded going to the stores. but i hope all who do need 'want to get stuff now do enjoy it.

  20. I received my Boxing Day order this morning. One of the two cotton scarves I ordered is missing, but I’m happy with the rest of the order. The topcoat in double leopard is nice, albeit a bit heavier than I expected. It’s slightly narrower in the shoulders than the oversized topcoat in English herringbone (love!) but otherwise fits well. I probably won’t be able to wear it comfortably over heavy layers, but it’ll be fine over most tops. Shoulder width is often an issue with my broad shoulders and back, so the shoulders are probably fine for most people. I also received 3 duplicates of jeans I already own and love plus the “Shiraz” tee. I have one more order from NYE expected early next week.

I also ordered the sleeveless tank in Liberty Betsy Ann floral yesterday ($12.49) to wear in the summer with the skirt I purchased previously as a 2 piece dress. I already have both pieces in Liberty Symphony floral and I really like how well they work together.

  23. Purchased before I left last week and got a price adjustment reflecting sales price last week $29 plus change. It’s cute, first one was returned as it had a white spot most likely from the lettering, second one they overnighted to me and is fine. 3/4 length sleeves. Wore it New Years Day with jeans and a pair of Gucci Boots picked up at Gucci in Italy for 50% off.

  24. Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but if you received a $50 off $150 gift card in the mail before the holidays (I think they came out at the same time as the $25 cards... mine expires February 2nd), I just used mine online without reaching the $150 minimum! Looks like it's really just a $50 minimum.

  25. I don't want to sabotage anyone's low buy/ no buy aspirations but a lot of the sale items that were marked final sale appear to no longer be final sale once they are in the cart and the extra 50% off BIGGERSALE code still applies. Not sure if this is a website glitch or a deliberate decision by J Crew. So far I've resisted the urge to try those Poppy two strap leopard ballet flats...

    1. Hi Toronto Modern, I bought a velour lined hoody after your recommendation, I’m failing at no shopping Jan. but I was actually wanting to buy a hoody so I don’t feel too bad. :) I also ordered a cashmere hat since my winter hat has ripped. This week is a new week, I need to do better!

  26. I bought two pairs of loafers this weekend for an extra 60% off markdown. They came to $22 and $50. I'm trying to be good in preparation for the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale tomorrow.

  28. Thank you to everyone for the smart shopping conversation. Although I'm waiting for a Jcrew order, two Madewell orders and an everlane order, I didn't buy the things I was eyeing this weekend, and who knows what from the previous orders will actually arrive because only the everlane clothing has shipped.
Yes, a red and black Buffalo check tie neck top is cute, but do I really need it? Probably not.
    Baby steps.

  29. No store visit for me this weekend. I did order the poppy silk blouse yesterday which I've had my eye on and showed back up online in a full size run. I got the snakeskin Elsie's in the mail the other day which were a recent popback during one of the 50% off sale, and I'm glad I picked them up. I have been less impressed with J.Crew's shoes lately and these were a nice treat (and only $50).

As I listed quite a few items for sale on Poshmark this morning that I've only worn once or twice, I am reminded of my desire to make better purchases in the new year. I had more items in my cart yesterday and after thinking on it for a few hours just went with the blouse.

  31. I need to replace some denim whenever they do FP discounts, but after that, I’m on a hiatus as well. I’ve done so many huge returns this season thanks to all of the random sales and delayed shipments. I’m ready for a break from the side eye the SAs give me when I walk in with my giant box to give back to them.

    1. and i thought i was paranoid( or maybe just sensitive to it) about the side eye. i dread the return process...one of the reason i have not ordered for awhile.

  32. I do find returns distasteful as well. In general, I avoid it as much as possible. With J.Crew, there are just so many unknowns, and so few opportunities to try in store, that returns are just part of the package. It does get tiring, which may be why I buy in phases. I try a lot, return a lot, and keep enough, then take time off.

I wrote down my actual wardrobe gaps/ wants so I don't lose sight of them. Why get another top (even if I'll wear it) when what I really need to replenish is leggings? Going through everything I own again helped with that. Still shopping for such items, and always shoes (I wear them all). I've appreciated the mindful conversation.
