Styled the cashmere cable knit turtleneck and tartan scarf on the blog this week. Fit of sweater is oversized, but I didn't size down. Wearing a size small. It is really good "old school" cashmere and not at all itchy. Expensive, but you're actually getting what you're paying for.

It looks great! I agree - the cashmere is fantastic. If interested, I'd suggest trying this sweater on. I purchased a small which is my regular sweater size. The XS would have been waaaayyyy too short in the back.
DeleteI love the intricate cable knit pattern of that sweater but I don’t care for the dropped shoulder. I have several J.Crew tops with dropped shoulders but I finally realized that the style is unflattering on me.
DeleteI tried the medium (swimming on me) and XS (short in the back). I agree with Jeanne that I would prefer a non-dropped shoulder, but it's still a beautiful sweater and on par with Theory and Vince quality sweaters. I also bought the navy. Not sure if I will keep both, but it's a beautiful sweater.

My popback 2017 Lichen green Collection double breasted velvet blazer arrived along with the popback 2017 Ludlow Wool/Cashmere topcoat for my husband.
ReplyDeleteThe blazer is my 'usual' size 6 and is a perfect fit. This version is longer in the sleeves and body than the 2018 version of the same jacket. Plus it is viscose and silk instead of viscose and poly. For me the extra length is very desirable, the sleeves actually reach my hand. The shoulders are fitted and the body has enough taper that my size 2/4 hips are not lost. The color is memorable, but I like it and will wear it anywhere. I see there is still a navy popback in a size 14 that has been hanging out for a few days. The navy is three times the price I paid for the green, though I'd still pick it over the 2018 version. This is my only velvet garment, as I gave away my too big velvet dresses. I'm thinking to wear it with my green Foundry pants for casual, and with a black sweater dress or slim pants for work/holidays. Any other ideas?
The 2017 Ludlow topcoat is also a winner. It fit TTS with a nice tapered body that suits my husband who wears slim fit shirts. The wool/cashmere is soft. The only flaw is a tiny loose thread in the sleeve lining that I can fix quickly. With the reviews for the 2018 Ludlow terrible and the price on the 2017 wonderful it was an easy choice. Now we have his old (still very nice) larger topcoat to give away.
Two lucky popbacks on one night when I was up with my bad tummy, so something good came of it.

DeleteI just googled your blazer. It is gorgeous. I would certainly style it exactly as modeled. I would also see how it looked with my black velvet easy pants and maybe a crisp heather gray tee underneath or chambray (sorry), or go really super holiday like the tartan perfect shirt...Black skinny jeans with a skinnier heeled black boot...I see a lot of potential! Glad to hear hubby got something also. Enjoy!

DeleteNow I remember that one from last year. I thought the color was more of a gold but see it was called lichen green. Pretty sure SartorialChoices on IG had it and posted some looks.
DeleteSpeaking of skinny jeans, I literally can't even put them on in the summer, but once the weather gets chilly I love to wear them. IMO they work much better with ankle boots than boyfriend (or other non-skinny jeans) for a sleek look.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I threw on Madewell black skinny jeans that I had gotten in a taller size so they're longer than ankle length, the Madewell mockneck sweater from last winter (that looks kind of junky now, but whatever) and pointy toe leopard booties from Jcrew from a few seasons ago. So easy and comfortable and I felt like I put a tiny bit of effort in. Earlier in the day I just threw on a pair of black hunter boots because of all the snow. And that's the other benefit of skinny jeans, they work with tall boots.
Slightly OT, what socks do you wear with ankle boots that don't slide down. It kills me. I almost prefer going sockless.
I was a boot girl for years, lived in jeans, frye boots and blazers and a few years ago started wearing more feminine shoes. I sold almost all my tall frye boots. 😂 going out to dinner when there is snow on the ground, it's kind of stupid to wear heels unless it's a special occasion.
I do agree that skinny jeans are still great, in fact I consider them a future classic. They do go well with ankle boots, and for winter they are great 'cos you avoid wet hems. I love my flares, but probably reach for my skinnies first.
DeleteAll black with leopard works really well. You could carry a red bag if you go out, or wear a red scarf or earrings...
I have cowboy boots I bought in Kentucky in 1985. They've been resoled twice and still look fine. The most comfortable boots I have ever worn. I've worn them for casual Friday to work with flares, but tomorrow I think I will wear them with skinnies after this conversation!
I have also had socks ride down into my cowboy boots. With tall boots I just wear tall athletic socks and they do not come down. With booties I've been good wearing trouser socks, but they have to be relatively new.
When I went to Morristown today for a haircut I wore my green Foundry pants with LLBean boots. To messy for anything else.
I actually had tied the roaming tiger scarf around my neck earlier, peeking out under the neck of the sweater. Red is one of my few colors so I add it a lot.
