Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

    1. New promo today but some sale prices are showing up as full price when you add to cart; theskimm code expired and JCSM18 is not stackable with the new promo. And no more free shipping! The new promo is a worse deal than stacking the codes and free ship this week.

I’m heading in for returns this weekend and hoping the instore promo is better.

    2. I had ordered one or two popbacks - a pair of linen cotton chinos for my husband, a striped tunic tshirt for me, and a pair of bi-stretch Maddies in ivory with the 20% theskimm but not the JCSM18 since there was less than $100 total, and was able to get a PA today. The associate calculated it a little wrong (10% off what I paid, not the original price) but that still works out to 8% extra. Only a few dollars, but I will take anything.

Plus I found the Silk ruffle dress in watercolor floral
H6295 in small. I had ordered Medium with the stacked codes, hoping to find a small later and exchange. Well, it worked, since I got a price match. I only hope I like this dress, it's way more flowery and ruffly than my usual.

  2. Glad I reordered things in different sizes last night rather than waiting!

  3. this may just be one of those weekends when I change lightbulbs, restock pantry staples, pack up books for donation, take a daring peek at the bottom of the laundry basket... not shop. Scary, no?

  4. No visit for me. I stopped in yesterday for returns - returned the bright pink tweed sheath dress (slightly small and the fabric was so thin), oversized denim jacket and the white boyfriend jeans.

It looks like some of the sale prices have been raised as well - noticing a few items that are a good 30% more than they have been (ugh). We're in Factory pricing territory now, not good. The navy shirt dress had been $49.99, now it's $79.99 and the asymmetrical sheath is up to $119 from I think $79 or $89.

    1. Yes. Unbelievable, fruit Jackie cardigan $76.99! was$38.99!!

    2. Yep. The Pom Pom espadrilles I ordered earlier this week went from $32.99 to $65.99. And anything else I would be remotely interested in went up by a lot. Agree that this is now the equivalent of factory pricing games which is a huge turn off. As If i need another reason to be turned off at this point!

    3. Yes! Just checked the funnelneck shirt, more than double what I paid last night. Decided it was a good shirt to hide the remanents of my mom tum (and behind ) while I try to slim down. Just had to get the sizing right and I did in my last order.

    4. I ordered another size of that navy shirt dress yesterday. I could have sworn I tried on an XXS and loved it, but when it arrived I wanted to try the XS. Also have the pom pom espadrilles arriving today. Can't wait to try them as there were no reviews. Tonight I am also returning the white boyfriend jeans, and the yellow perfect rainjacket. That jacket took serious stalking and today there are most sizes available. Unfortunately, I just couldn't overlook the too short sleeves.

On another note, fans of Jack Rogers may want to take a look at Lord and Taylor, quickly. I ordered three pairs of Navajos yesterday for $34.50 each which have already shipped. Today they are further reduced to $29.50. I know Suz and others (myself included) have had issues with them in the past, but they've been really good lately in my experience. There are a lot of cute shoes on sale if anyone is looking for a cheap thrill!

    5. I was excited to wake up to sale on sale...until I saw how much the prices had gone up on most of the things I have been stalking. Not gonna bite, J.Crew.

    6. Cheri thanks for posting about the Jack Rogers. I got a pair of wedges for $37. I need wedges to wear with my maxi dresses and skirts that aren’t sky high and these should fit the bill.

    7. Glad to help Jess. What color did you get? I was debating them but unsure about the gold... Placed another order this morning for nude patent loafers, striped espadrille type shoes, and leopard loafers.

    8. This promotion is a joke - EVERYTHING I ordered earlier this week and last week is now priced so much higher. Oh boy, 30% off your order. It was LESS EXPENSIVE yesterday. I don't think anyone at J Crew knows what they are doing. After July 4th, no one is looking to pay full price + 30% off on summer clothes, sandals and swimwear. Most stores had extra 50% off sale for the holiday and they DID NOT jack up the prices. It is exasperating!!!!

      Delete
    9. I got the Cognac as I have gold wedges already. Read the reviews on the Nordstrom site and went up 1/2 size. Hope they ship( they are coming from a store) and that they fit as that is a great price.

  5. I’ll be stopping by today to return almost everything I bought. Midi skirts I needed 2 sizes smaller, wrap tops are a no go with my big chest, and just can’t seem to get the ruffle neck top to work - it gapes at the chest (btw can a tailor fix that issue?). I reordered the midis, and few more funnelneck shirts because I like the silhouette with a pencil skirt to hide my midsection. The stripe pull on skirt is going back too. It’s at least a full size smaller than the orange one. If you’re hippy definitely size up on the striped version! I don’t need it - the orange one is enough.

  7. Saw an ad for ‘sale on sale’ on Insta last night, and thought it must be a mistake-what retailer ‘ups’ their promo two days AFTER a holiday? J Crew, apparently, but only after raising ‘sale’ prices enough to offset the promo first. Waiting for a last order to roll in and then I’m finally going to cancel my JC card. I would still love for them to make it, but I’m not holding my breath...

    ReplyDelete
  8. Insulting "promo" really when many sale items have had prices raised online today . Does jc think customers are challenged to do retail math ?!
Eg the denim utility shirt at 25.99 CDN last week now nets out at 31.49 CDN AFTER discount !
Is there any kind of USA consumer legislation against this type of pricing, phoney discount game.?
Or do they have algorithm problems which force a price jump if margin after discount is too low ( since not every sale items has increased in price since yesterday) . Am I still trying to give them the benefit of the doubt and believe it's computers not humans at JC making this marketing decision?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If it’s an algorithm, humans bought, paid for and installed it, presumably after learning how it works. Benefit of the doubt is not called for.

    2. You are right WFF . I need to stop giving them excuses or getting sucked into the game by continuing to scour the sale section for the items that didn't go up in price ! Im off to change light bulbs and investigate depths of laundry bin, maybe even clean out the freezer !

    4. I don't even pay attention to their sales anymore.

  9. Add me to the list of being upset by these pricing games. I also noticed some sale items being more expensive than yesterday even after the 30% discount. I’m very disappointed that Jcrew would go down that path (I really hate that factory does but I expect better from retail).

  10. Hello JCAs, went to store to make returns. My store in century City los Angeles has the ruffle chino jackets for $30.99 with extra 30% off sale. They had sizes 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10. The jacket runs small. My typical size is 0, but 2 fit me perfectly. The color was too close to my skin tone, so I had to pass. I did get the leopard academy loafers for $71.00 after additional 30% discount.

Here's a latest article on Jcrew debt in the easiness insider: http://www.businessinsider.com/jcrew-has-debt-from-buyout-2018-7

Fingers crossed they can make it out this year...seems unlikely though.

Hope everyone had a good fourth. Happy weekend.

    1. Business Insider reported earlier in the week that J Crew’s debt load is currently $1.7 billion, mostly due to the 2011 LBO. That’s a mind-blowing $30 million a quarter in interest payments alone. Exactly the same situation that caused Toys R Us and other retailers to go belly up.

Lots of pressure on the proposed fall “relaunch,” from the industry and from investors, but let’s face it, the odds are small.

      Delete
    2. "There are so many issues here, but the biggest one is a crippling debt load — we're talking $30 million a quarter just in interest payments," Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData Retail, told the Washington Post. "It's an eye-watering number and it makes a turnaround just about impossible."

      Ouch.

They really raced to the bottom in terms of quality and style. There have been a few good pieces, but it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. The quality of some of the things I've tried this year were no better than Target or Old Navy, and sizing continues to be all over the place. Add that to the return shipping fees/no B&M nearby and paying to try on low quality clothes that I could find at any other retailer is not something I feel like spending a lot of time and money on. Boo, J.Crew. : /

      Delete
    3. Oh, and now the Factory-esque pricing games. I don't spend much time looking at Factory for that reason. It seems like the best deal you can get there is the 40% off new arrivals when there's a rollout, and if you don't buy then you're dealing with up-and-down pricing until items go to the (final) sale section. JC retail used to be better than that.

Okay, I'll stop for now. Happy weekend, JCA's!

      Delete
    4. If J Crew could data-mine even just half of the comments from this blog {thank you Alexis!} the answers to many of their issues are right here. I read the article and all I could see were the same misguided ideas as before. Fast fashion, lower prices {probably lower quality} and the loss of vision for their core customer. Maybe they think their former core customer has moved on and are gone forever. I guess we will have to wait and see but that doesn't sound promising :-( I wish they would look at what Brooks Brothers did, maybe they don't have the same financial ability to make those choices or they just don't want to go in that direction.

      Delete
    5. That crippling debt load is what started the decline in quality in the first place and it has spiraled to the point now where there is no turning back. Lower quality = lower sales for a company whose whole thing was higher quality than your typical mall brands.

Now it seems J.Crew is in this frenetic scramble to find a new identity...and it's just. Not. Working.

It will be interesting to see what this fall's relaunch brings - but it feels like one last ditch attempt at finding a buyer willing to take a gamble on what brand equity J.Crew has left. If so, they better roll out the high quality "basics with a twist" that got all of us addicted in the first place.

      I'm not holding my breath.

      Delete
    6. Violet, you are so right. The spiraling down in quality began shortly after the LBO in 2011. Many of the beautiful garments from that era and earlier are still going strong in our closets.

At that point, management realized they had to drastically cut costs. They looked around and saw that Zara, Old Navy, Target etc. were killing it in the fast fashion category, and the marketing geniuses were telling them that Millennials won’t buy their value proposition anymore. That was the end.

J Crew has never cared much about the free advice they get on this blog, for good reason. JCAs represent about 1% of their market, literally, and they know they don’t have to invest in reaching who is left here, their most loyal fans. It’s the JCAs who have left, and the customers of those other retailers, who are determining their fate.

  11. My leopard microfiber underwire bra arrived today. I usually wear a 34C and ordered this in 34D since the website said to size up. The fit is very good, the fun pattern matches my leopard pjs, and as I only wear unlined bras this is just right. Now I can only hope the matching panties will pop up, but if not I will wear it with beige.

  12. Received another batch of sale orders. Glad I ordered before the pricing games today. SMH. More orders coming, including in store pick ups that arrived todayy.

Point Sur linen blend seaside pants. Keeping lavender and debating caramel (darker than I anticipated). Ordered tall for extra length & fit is tts. This is a relaxed fit, so you can size down if you want something more fitted. Planning to pair lavender pants with liberty magical bouquet popover and lavender, favorite tank. Lavender of the tank and pants match perfectly.

Midi stripe asymmetrical dress - Fit is tts; basing this on fit in the arms. Returning as I'm not in love with the dress and have lots of striped dresses I don't wear enough.

Linen button-back dress in red - Keeper. This is a great summer dress; fit is tts and it's not too short in the classic. The pockets are a bonus & the button back is easy since you only need to open a button or two. Ordered in navy too, so looking forward to receiving.

Blue floral pj top - This was a tag along to use the JCSM18 discount. But I really like it; it's definitely thin, but that's not an issue given the 100 degree weather. I also ordered the bottoms; they could be used as a cute cover up bottom for the beach. Returning them because I just don't need. Fit is tts.

Isabel Bacon tee - Another ride along for the discount. Nice quality cotton blend with some stretch. Fit is tts, but it's not fitted which I like. I didn't like how the patterns were cut on the one I received, so returning. Would recommend you try to purchase in store if you can.

Point Sur tie front linen top and crop linen pants - Fit is tts in the top; I ordered a tall for the extra length. Took my usual medium. Linen is a nice weight and matches the pants perfectly. Pants are high waisted, so I took the larger of my two sizes; these will stretch out because they're linen, but think it will be fine.

Linen embroidered jacket - Fit is tts. It's definitely cropped; reviews are great and the fabric/embroidery is very nice. Planning to wear with Point Sur crop linen pants because of the off white details. Can layer with Point Sur top or a linen tank. Tried both options & they work.

Denim button fly shorts - these were on super sale; fit is tts & I like the look. Was going to keep until I realized I already have a similar pair, so returning despite the great price.

White denim button fly shorts and toothpick jeans - Keepers. White denim shirts were on my purchase list and these fulfill that need. Fit is tts and there's elastene, so there's stretch. I paired with blue floral top and really like the look. Toothpick button fly jeans are a nice fabric & a good skinny jean option. Love the button fly & they'll get lots of wear. Happy to have another white denim option.

    1. I was wondering the same thing. It seems the things we were most excited about are what the "new head team" has gotten rid of or definitely cut back on.
The fact that I have to always be checking the site...drives me crazy.style guides good % off sale have been shelved. why list a swim suit in the sale section with 8% off?
most of my returns this year have been because of fit. too short dresses...in the torso (navy silk floral dress was great except the top half was ridiculously short) swim suits that do not cover enough of your back side.. to name only two...sorry for the rant on a weekend post but if they are heading to fail for sure...new management sealed the deal as far as I am concern.

  14. Received the Pom Pom espadrilles. They are too narrow and short in my regular size. Also received the sleeveless shirt dress in chambray and even after sizing down there is too much fabric. Both are going back. I really keep trying to find things to buy! Also echoing everyone else’s thoughts about the promo with higher sale prices. Since July 5th all my emails from other retailers have been about summer super clearance not increasing prices. They are gonna get stuck with a ton of summer stuff if they don’t start marking it down ASAP.

    1. Yeah, after July 4 summer's over from a retail standpoint. All of the patio furniture and garden stuff at my Target was on markdown on the 4th. Gotta make room for back-to-school/"pre-fall". ; )

You're right, JessF - they're going to end up with a glut of summer stuff just like last year with the OTS, one shoulder, cold shoulder tops.

  15. I will be making a few returns, since I picked up so many items lately with the stacking promo codes.

A keeper: the Flared-sleeve marled swing sweater. This was a flash sale item, so combined with a promo code I paid about $10. I would not have ordered this sweater except for the flash sale price, but once arrived I really like it. I have the orchid, which is a blue/lavender with a bit of pink. Looks pretty with white pants, blue denim and navy work well too. Fits my hourglass shape well. I would not say clingy, but the fabric does follow your shape a bit. The v-neck is just high enough to wear without a top underneath. The sleeves are definitely long, which works for me since my arms a bit long. I am wearing my usual small and the fit is good, loose enough but not baggy. I like the knit, but anticipate it could snag. And I will likely hand-wash and dry flat, or at least wash in a mesh bag. I could see the wash machine pulling the knit apart.

    1. So before I left to do the returns, my package arrived with the pop-back of the white ashbury flare jeans. This was a final sale item. I took a gamble and ordered the size 27 (I am a curvy four) and it paid off. The fit is perfect, the length is perfect. These are the perfect jeans. At under 15? Wow, 1970s jeans at a 1970s price!

I am keeping size 4 in the 7 inch stretch chinos and sending back the 6. I wore a 6 in the 4 inch chino shorts, but in these the 6 was too big. The four is a good fit, and the legs were not as skinny as I feared.

The Silk ruffle dress in watercolor floral is going back, it is just not flattering on me. Makes me look 10lbs heavier.

  16. I received an order his week. Love the Firecracker tee, and the "Jane of all Trafes". Got a backup navy striped boatneck which will be in regular rotation. Caught a pair of black suiting trousers on sale in my size - this is a duplicate pair as I already love the pair I have and know I'll use them. Otherwise Poshmark has been getting my clothing budget as I pickup various skirts, silk tops, and blazers from years past. Hopeful for fall but worried overall that J Crew is too deep in fast fashion to make a turnaround.

  17. Same here.... got some of my packages. Love the fire cracker T-shirt xs-TTS, the Parke blazer in seersucker SZ 2-TTS, got ripstop cargo shorts for my son- (he loves/-this never happens). The white boyfriend jeans for my daughter were too small.... mostly in calves... she is all upset(16yrs old-thinks she is fat)... not sure if I will exchange for her. also got the silver evie heel, only $24... and I have the blush which I love... not sure if I will keep them... they look nice.... just not sure if I need them....still have to pick up 3 packages in store on Monday, (mostly cashmere-that was a pop back: cashmere side tunic for $44 in black, ever day cashmere sweater in camel for $42 and the grey cashmere bow sweater for $46.... keep you all posted.... and yes you hate this pricing game.... lots of work....lol

  18. I just got in an order from the better sale before the 30% off price markup sale and low and behold the coat I purchased had a box cut down the front, no tags, no extra button tag, the pocket stitching was open and the back vent stitching was undone. 1. Bummer, looks like someone did not pay attention. If it is not sold out, you will certainly get an exchange. If it is sold out, see if there are any similar price point items, perhaps CS will make a substitution. Or if it pops back again, order it right away and then call to get the price adjusted to what you paid.

    4. One of my orders during the better promo arrived from a store - totally wrong size, handwritten tag. Half the items arrived in plastic bags clearly too small so things were squished and wrinkled on arrival. I think all the promos now are geared toward clearing out tons of inventory in stores, which they should have done months ago!

    5. There is a guy in our Sunday School class who returned home from college who worked for the distribution center last year. I was talking to him about this and he said they were taught to "save" the returns and to fix anything that looked used and repackage it to be put back into inventory. They even use a local drycleaner to dryclean items and repackage them. Okay if this is true I am thinking that is alot of work but human error was all over the place in my order. I would think JCrew has a machine that could at least print out new tags and a sewing staff that would make the item look like it was indeed still fresh if they were going to sell it like that, not just fold it back up and send it out to someone who is expecting a new item.

  20. Am I the only JCA almost exclusively shopping eBay and Poshmark at this point? I am so sorry to say I don’t think they can turn it around. The quality of clothing they were making in 2005-2008 would not just be profitable now. I’m no business expert, but anyone with older J Crew in their closet can clearly compare and see the difference. I’m very sad about it, as they really filled a special niche in the retail market.
