This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale
items at our
various local J.Crew stores. ;)
If
you are stopped
by a J.Crew store this past weekend
to see what's available (if
anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS
{sigh!} in person, maybe you
might be willing to
share that with us in this post. In
particular, if you could share
with us a few of the noteworthy items
that are available, at what
prices, and potential sizes the
store is carrying (as well as the
store location)- that would be
fantastic!
Also, please
let us know if your local store
was/ is carrying an additional
percent off sale. Thanks in
advance!!! :)
Happy Monday, JCA's! Anybody else seeing "Savings Applied - No Code Needed" on some full price items? (Like if you search "SeaVees") Then if you click on the item, there is (surprise!) no savings. Their site is so crazy.
ReplyDeleteYes, I noticed that too. I think it’s been like that since Friday! Their website is terrible.
DeleteI'd have to actually be checking the website to notice. At this point I have almost given up on checking it out completely. Too many glitches, lame promos and nothing much I am interested in purchasing anyway.
DeleteA couple of weeks ago, in sheer frustration with ongoing problems on the Canadian version, I sent CS an email, followed by a couple of screen shots after they came back and said they couldn't see the problem I had described!!! The issue did get corrected. So although the customer is not meant to be the IT test/debug staff, corrections may be produced by sending the screenshots to CS. JC website glitches are annoying time wasters, I should just give up looking. It is almost as if they are tweaking the settings daily, without really understanding the coding behind the scenes.
Deletethe Canadian site has had many issue over the last few mths. I called and sent emails...and Like above I was told "oh I don't see that " like really J Crew? I have stopped looking at sale page altogether.
DeleteI did browse Everlane online. nice site...nice items. when i next need to fill a spot in my wardrobe either shoes or clothing...I will be try them. Bye Bye J Crew.
opps. will be trying them.
Deletesilver_lining that 'feature' is so awful.
DeleteVisited West Van store at the weekend. Sale section merchandise is languishing there, quantities have barely moved since last weekend. A result of the no additional % off sale policy I guess.
ReplyDeleteI checked out the Harlow cardigans with velvet and sequin trim thinking of holiday season options. Sadly, the trimmed Harlow versions are now all a 50% acrylic mix with merino, so not even worth trying for me. The knit has a kind of floppiness about it, not in a good way,I think it may stretch out and go baggy, besides pill. Just not a $118.50 Cdn value. Peplum sleeve V neck was the same 50% acrylic blend. In 100% merino, I would have bought it.
The "peplum sleeve" name is odd... isn't a peplum by definition at the waist? Why not just call it a bell sleeve? Oh well...
DeleteWhat day did they stop doing the extra % off sale as a rule? I'm interested to see how long it goes until they revisit.
Saturday Oct 7 was the last date I had an extra discount (30%) off sale. Though this may have been offered to coincide with Cdn Thanksgiving weekend. It is only two weeks ago, but feels like a much longer extra discount drought! There may have been one online extra % off sale since then. Some store manager with discretionary price reduction authority needs to get into the bulging sale section and start red line kill pricing all the OTS summer residue! Inventory turn metrics can't be looking good. Strategy may be effective in the furniture /soft furnishing world of West Elm but clothing has seasons! and the Pacific North West is chilly and rainy now.
DeleteCopywriter from space strikes again with " peplum-sleeve" this is the actual definition !"pep·lum
[ˈpepləm]
NOUN
a short flared, gathered, or pleated strip of fabric attached at the waist of a woman's jacket, dress, or blouse to create a hanging frill or flounce. OR
(in ancient Greece) a woman's loose outer tunic or shawl.
Alyssa (below) I also noticed that the Harlow star cardigan (50 acrylic 50 merino) felt unusually coarse. Rougher knit than the velvet or sequin trim Harlows. More F21, Old Navy - not even Zara fabric.

ReplyDeleteI didn't go to the b&m but did receive an order of the Rose-print tee and the star-embroidered Harlow. Tee was TTS and a solid-feeling but lightweight knit I'm optimistic won't get holes on the first wash. A keeper for me at a reasonable price point at 30% off. The Harlow is going right back. The gray is a darker charcoal than depicted on the website and the stars and trim don't "pop". The knit feels rather coarse (not itchy, not stiff, just...there's no softness to it) and it's 1) not pretty enough 2) not cozy enough and 3) not priced cheap enough for the fabric quality.
ReplyDeleteI stopped in to make a return and saw first-hand what many JCAs have been saying this week about languishing sale sections. Hoo boy, the sale section was overflowing w ruffles, ots, and droopy knits. If they can’t sell it w an extra 30-40% off, how are they going to unload it without?
ReplyDeleteThe combination of overdoing the trendy, hard-to-wear looks and yanking the long-term extra % discounting policy at the same time is a really crappy inventory mgmt decision. This stuff will be hanging around for years not generating the sales they need to service their debt.
I don’t think the Merchant Prince would’ve made this call. Retail 101.
Am I the only one who's interested in the Tippi sweater in cat print? Has anyone tried it on or seen it? There are no reviews.
ReplyDeleteI am also interested in that Tippi. It was not at the store when I visited last week. Really want to see it first because I have a bad feeling it will be sheer.
DeleteI am - I would just like to see a real photo. My local stores have nothing in the way of new merchandise.
DeletePaging Ina! : )
DeleteI'd like to see it, too - I suspect that the ivory will be more tan than white as it looks on the website and would like to confirm.
Me too -- reminds me of an Old Navy sweater I wore the heck out of years ago. If it's not too sheer/too tan, I'm definitely interested.
DeleteYou can try the new website feature where you can do a live video chat with an in-store associate! Ask them to hold it up to the camera for you!
DeleteI havent seen it either- a lot of the new arrivals are late. Last week they only send part if the boxes that should have come:(
DeleteAt least the Tippi description online doesn't say merino/acrylic. So disappointed that J Crew has started cheapening the merino this way.
DeletePosted a pic of the tippi in cat print!
DeleteJust received this Tippi today - colour looks exactly as shown on website. Have not checked yet for sheerness. Will be wearing tomorrow so check @poettodesign on IG!
DeleteForgot to say, that they are unpacking boxes right now and if they get the sweater they will send me a pic.
ReplyDeleteAlso i can try it tomorrow in case they get it.
HTH
Thanks Ina!
DeleteI ordered and received the Cat Print Tippi. It's not too sheer and fits TTS. The background is indeed a warm white... not cream color. Glad I ordered it... nice sweater.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reviewing - I look forward to seeing it in person. I can't resist an animal print! ;)
DeleteI like it too!
DeleteThank you!
DeleteDisappointed in the gold velvet skirt. The color is only nice in the right light. It's mustard brown if you ask me.The lining doesn't feel good. I think it looks 'ok', not 'expensive' like some other reviews. The petite length is nice on 5'3". Aside from the lining it is comfortable overall, buy the lack of a back slit made my walking upstairs trial annoying. All this combined with a dry clean label make it not worth it. I was expecting to love, but will be saving the $.
ReplyDelete@Sarah Folz, my thoughts exactly on this color and quality. Nice skirt and I'm glad others liked it, but I was somewhat surprised at the rave reviews. I thought the fabric felt a little cheap (velvet not being a substantial fabric, I guess) and I felt the style would've benefited from a back slit and a more tapered fit in general. Maybe the navy version makes a better impression.
DeleteTM93, that's exactly it, re cut. Something closer to a pencil skirt might have made this piece special. It does indeed just hang there from the elastic.
ReplyDeleteI think fabrics like velvet and satin used to be 'expensive', but no longer convey that richness. Cut, color... something extra would have to give it a richness. I really like the green velvet Averys. The shape and rich color make them look special, not cheap.
