This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So
if you have recently purchased,
or stopped by a J.Crew store to try
on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you
might be willing to share that
information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In
particular, if you could
mention a few of the noteworthy
details like fit, size, fabric, and the
like— that would be fantastic! Thanks
in advance! :)
30/40% + free ship extended thru today, also 50% + free ship at Factory. Website is kind of hiccup-y this morning, tho.
ReplyDeletehiccups indeed! It kept giving me prices in Australian dollars.
DeleteWondering if any JCAs have reviews of items AFTER a few wears/laundering. Evaluating fit is great when you are wearing an item for the first time in your closet for an insta photo, but an IRL review of wrinkling, pilling, holes (or not!) after a day or two in the office and a trip to the dry cleaner or would be so helpful in avoiding "disposable" items.
ReplyDeleteHi ruffles - good idea! I don't have specific reviews because I haven't purchased (and kept) anything recently, but I would say that in general no matter what I buy from JC, I feel that it needs to be babied. I tend to wash everything from them in cold water and air dry. If I don’t handle them with kid gloves, the seams on knits, button-downs, and chinos tend to pucker. I’ve noticed shrinkage in flannel shirts with washing.
DeleteI’d say that the jeans and chambray hold up better, but that may be because I wash them less frequently. In trying to avoid disposable clothing, I avoid blends in both sweaters and knits, because poly in t-shirts causes them to pill faster and the wool blend sweaters look ratty faster than 100% merino.
I agree Silver_lining- I haven't bought t-shirts in years due to the pin holes that result in regular washing. It use to be that I wanted just about everything from JC but now I am leery of most of their product. It's a real shame
DeleteI may be the only JCA who has not had trouble with pin holes in the t-shirts. I machine wash and machine dry most of my J. Crew t-shirts (exceptions being the Bermuda one and a couple like that that I'm afraid of shrinking). My washer doesn't have a center agitator, not sure if this is why I don't have problems, or maybe I've just been lucky. I wash perfect tees, tissue tees, and vintage tees on normal cycle, machine dry low. Same for their denim, I don't baby it at all, always machine wash warm and tumble dry low. Now the button downs and flannels, I hang those to dry because I think they will shrink. I don't machine wash the sweaters ever since I ruined a Tippi that way. I was very careful but it came out smaller and looked wrinkly.
Delete@cate I haven't had any issues either. I've purchased linen, embroidered and destination (i.e. Paris) tees with no problems. I wash per instructions and haven't had any problems in terms of shrinkage or holes. Hopefully, this continues.
DeleteI hand wash all of my merino & cashmere sweaters. They do require ironing afterwards; otherwise very puckery/wrinkly looking. Maybe a tiny bit of shrinkage after washing but never a problem for me. If the tee is embellished, I hand wash. Otherwise, it goes in the washing machine and I flat dry ALL of my knits. Occasionally I have pilling issues but since it's always on the side I carry my handbag, I know that is the reason for the pilling.
DeleteWash all of my merino and cashmere sweaters on the wool cycle in my front loader. Steam them afterwards as they are a bit wrinkly looking after washing/drying. Bit of shrinkage, that's why I always order a size up. Pilling not usually a problem, as @shopalot says caused by rubbing against something, not because of washing. Airdrying works best.
DeleteSame goes for silks (delicates cycle).
I also wash all of my merino and cashmere on delicate (some in lace/mesh bags) with Forever New delicates wash and then lay flat to dry. The Tippis haven't shrunk enough to bother me using this method. I found they shrink about whole size when I put them in the dryer...
DeleteLooking back through my purchases of the last several months, I have no complaints regarding wear/washing, etc. I haven't had issues with tees in recent months, but the only ones I've bought have been the new perfect tees. I have had problems with factory tees unraveling at the seams.
Add me to the list of those that have never had the pinhole problems that many JCAs report for various tees. I use a top-loading machine and hang to dry. Anything with embellishments or that I think might stretch out goes in a mesh laundry bag (and anything I think might not play nicely with others, e.g., sports bras with hooks, also go into mesh bags).
DeleteI just remembered that when I've machine washed and dried my linen tees, sometimes they've shrunk. I've always been able to save them by re-washing them and hanging them dry, kind of re-shaping them out of the washer.
DeleteI ordered the Gingham Car Coat this morning. I had a 20% coupon which I was able to stack with the current 40% promotion and free shipping so it was quite a deal. Plan to wear it now and then save it for spring if I like it. I have been stalking it for a while but feel that for $150 it is a good deal.
ReplyDeleteIt is in my cart too! Have been eyeing it- the coupon is a good deal...anyone have one they want to share? : )
DeleteJust read an article about how coats are like a new accessory. Hope this coat doesn't disappoint!
I received the velvet bomber jacket last week - sad to report that it is way too short on me and going back. I ordered a S (I'm a 4/6 in blazers lately) and through the body it was fine but I would have liked it to go to my waist. I'm 5'8" and it looked skimpy on me. I am also not sure I'd wear the navy a ton as I tend to prefer black with jeans, etc. and that's likely when I'd wear such a piece. I was sucked in to seeing it pop back on line but it's a return for me.
ReplyDeleteI also received the black/ivory floral Lucie pumps with velvet bow. They're beautiful, TTS in my J.Crew size (but I can tell they are a bit narrow per the reviews which is ok with me). However, the pattern on the toes of the shoes doesn't match - one shoe is mostly black on the toes and one is mostly ivory. I am debating trying another pair if I can find one to compare prints. I posted them on my IG stories.
I stopped in to Factory yesterday but the mall was packed and I wasn't really feeling it. I did try the car coat and I really like the bright pink color. I found it TTS and a bit slimmer than recent iterations of this coat. The grey sweater with the black grosgrain bow at the neck was almost sold out in store, I haven't even seen it yet online.
Has anyone tried the j.crew cropped pant in stretch chino? do they run tts? i'd like to buy a pair at the discounted price but not sure which size i'd take (also I'm currently pregnant so not sure if I should go with my 'normal' size or if I should size up one)
ReplyDeleteWould also like to know if the factory d'orsay flats run tts - considering the leopard print.
TIA!
Yes, the chino pants are tts. Bought size 2... it’s my payley size... love them... they have a little stretch...
DeleteI bought the same size ...I take in the marties.
Delete@JMW I purchased the factory Leopard d'orsay flats. They ran TTS for me and are good quality for the price.
DeleteThank you everyone! :)
DeleteSome website fun for those with time on their hands this morning: mouse over the image of the Belted gingham dress (item G4801) on the product page and the model turns Avatar blue!
ReplyDeleteIt didn't work for me - dang!
DeleteDisappointed at the lack of choices for tweed/houndstooth blazers/coats. There’s the regent with the velvet ties but that’s itI hope this roll-out will have some.
ReplyDeleteSo many deals and nothing I want/need. Still mad that I didn't get to use my birthday promo. Boo JC. Don't you want my money lol.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone seen the J.Crew Teddy Faux Fur coat on Nordstrom's site, item #5478233. They only have xs left. Do you think this is something coming to the jcrew.com site?
ReplyDeleteI hope it's in the new rollout, I'd like to see it. It did sell out fast (or nearly) at Nordstrom.
DeleteI bet it will be there - they already have a girls' version on the site.
DeleteYes, it sold out fast on Nordstrom's site! I looked back at the photos from Fall 2017 preview for NY Fashion Week and don't see this particular coat. I think it's chic and cozy but will need to try it on to make sure I don't look like a Teddy Bear!
DeleteThanks, silver_lining, for the link to the girls' version of the Teddy jacket. I'm now more hopeful we'll get the women's longer version.
DeleteHi guys, does anyone remember an old J.Crew skirt, wool, with a velvet ribbon at the waist, and four inverted pleats? It came in brown, green, pink,... Thinking of buying one online but I'd like to see/know how it fits and I cannot find a picture online or in my old catalogues. I mean, style guides. (Yep, I save those...). Thanks so much! Here is a photo http://www.ebay.com/itm/J-Crew-Dk-Pink-orange-Inverted-Pleats-100-Wool-Skirt-8-Herringbone-Plaid-/222672783230?hash=item33d855077e:g:LccAAOSwHTpZz76L
ReplyDeleteHi Incognita! I've never seen the skirt before, but I've definitely seen the matching blazer on eBay. Here is the listing - according to the pic of the tags it's from Fall 2005. Wish I could help with a catalog pic but I didn't save back that far. : )
DeleteYou're probably best off comparing the measurements to a skirt you have that you like the fit. I see the buyer has a return policy - if the measurements look right, I'd go for it! A lot of the old school 'Crew items on eBay are great quality.
Thank you silver_lining! I agree, old school J.Crew usually is top quality. Take care!
DeleteI have to give a super huge compliment to JC!!! I ordered the blue gingham coat and the 40% did not go through so I did instant chat- they fixed it immediately and then I inquired about a $25 off coupon I found in my purse....they applied that too! So happy to get this coat at a great price! In a time when we feel that customer service is less than stellar, it is nice when it is more than stellar! Can't wait to get this coat!
ReplyDeletePacker™ X J.Crew X ASICS Tiger™ GEL-LYTE® III Oxblood Leather sneakers arrived today and it's easy to see why they sold out in a few hours. They are awesome, beautiful deep colour, quality construction. Happy my guy at 'crew was able to preorder these kicks for me.
ReplyDeleteThe website gets a whole different review. Tried to order a sweater for 20 minutes unsuccessfully; thankfully an email to my guy should get me what I want. But seriously J.Crew the nearest store is 8 hours away from me. Do a guy a solid and fix the damn site.
Does anyone have a stackable code they won't be using? Stacy7005 at gmail
ReplyDeleteTHANKS!!!!!
Madewell Tiered Button-Back Top in Burnished Rust. The color is more rust than it looks on the model photo but it's still a nice saturated color. I didn't like the fit on me. It seemed small overall. I may try a size up.
ReplyDeleteMadewell Atlas Cocoon Coat in Avalon Pink. This is a knee-length coat, which for some reason I didn't expect. It's longer than the J. Crew Cocoon Coat on me (5'4"). I got my usual size but I probably could have sized down. I didn't like it enough to re-order it though. The fabric is a bit thin and doesn't seem like it will wear well (product description says it is "Mohair/fleece wool/polyamide" but I think the order was different on the coat tag when I looked). It's thinner and flowier than J. Crew's stadium-cloth. The pink color is pretty but kind of non-descript. The color is similar to the pink coral sunday shirt I bought this season. I'll return this one.
Any reviews on the Madewell patch-pocket jean skirt? It looks so cute on the model. TTS? Runs big? TIA!
ReplyDeleteSunshine parting through clouds..... There is a pair of JC pants that fit me! I am wearing the Foundry pants today, and I love them. I'm wearing my usual JC size. That being said, 95% of JC pants do not fit me, and of the 5% that do, those usually need a slight alteration. Not these. For reference, I am 5'4" and a 00 in JC skirts, 0/XS in tops (maybe 00, XXS or 2 occasionally depending on style and fit intent). But I'm almost always a 2 in pants to fit my thighs and booty, and I've even tried size 4 with major waist/hip alterations. I have a small waist, narrow hips, but athletic legs and butt. Pants that fit my legs are usually so huge in the waist that they really can't even be altered. The foundry pants fit my legs great, fit my hips, and with the waist tabs buttoned to smallest fitting, the waist is pretty decent too! I love the high waist style, and the length is even good for me!! I found it interesting that many rated these as running small. I did not find that to be true. I think if you are proportioned like me with smaller waist, these will be true to size or even a bit large if you have proportional leg measurements. But if you are slimmer limbed and somewhat larger in proportion in waist/torso, these would definitely run small. Wish they came in other colors---debating if I'm going full camo for another pair. Wearing the khaki green today with a white tee, JC cashmere stripe cardigan in fuchsia/Burgundy, and metallic Adidas Stan smiths. Very happy.
ReplyDeleteAnyone try the Button Sleeve Tee? I love the button detail and am curious about the fit. It looks over-sized but that detail is not in the description. I'm wondering if I should size down. TIA.
ReplyDeleteMadewell reviews:
ReplyDeleteFleet Jacket in black - Sized up one size as recommended by the reviews. I like the fit. Tried it over the Central Shirt and JCrew Wrap Front Sweatshirt, comfortable fit. I like having the drawstring to cinch in the waist a bit.
Central Shirt, Haden Plaid - Ordered one size down. Love it. Sleeves fit well, unlike the Courier shirt. The fabric is substantial, nice for Fall, and has a silky feeling.
Slim Silk Scarf, Seattle Floral - Looks as pictured on my monitor. Got it to copy the styling in this image. I have an old Anthro jacket that I'm going to wear instead of ordering the Madewell one that's shown.
Wild Botanica Anklet socks - cute, cute.
JCrew review: Wrap front Sweatshirt - TTS if you want to layer something under it like the Central Shirt. A bit boxy. Nice weight fabric. V-neck was not too low for me, but I bought it to layer over a tank, top or shirt of some kind.
very good article
