This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale
items at our
various local J.Crew stores. ;)
If
you are stopped
by a J.Crew store this past weekend
to see what's available (if
anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS
{sigh!} in person, maybe you
might be willing to
share that with us in this post. In
particular, if you could share
with us a few of the noteworthy items
that are available, at what
prices, and potential sizes the
store is carrying (as well as the
store location)- that would be
fantastic!
Also, please
let us know if your local store
was/ is carrying an additional
percent off sale. Thanks in
advance!!! :)
I didn't go into J. Crew this weekend, but on Sunday I was on Instagram watching the NYFW presentation unfold. If you didn't see their great Instastory, check out this post.
ReplyDeleteAs I wrote: Great comments. I’m totally not into the long ruffled skirts. I love the flower pins and the Pom poms. The pink outfit bottoms were called something like a full length pant skirt (or vice Versa), and I thought that was beautiful and dramatic. I noticed the painted pants and remember a few from several years ago, which I tried but they just looked too contrived for me.
DeleteI did not see Amy’s (how to J. Crew’s) outfit. I admit most of what I’ve seen is not for me. I felt last year’s (or maybe it was last winter, not fall) was much more inspiring to my own wardrobe.
I might need to look more closely at some of the individual, more structured pieces.
Here's my post to JC's Facebook last night.
DeleteI'm a J Crew fan, but I'm honestly trying to figure out who's going to wear most of this stuff. There's very little that I can wear to the office (ball gowns, sequin & satin don't work). Also, why so much satin? Satin shoes, satin shorts and satin skirts? Seems like a bridesmaid/wedding/prom material. In 90+ degree weather, I don't want to wear satin. I have the gingham ankle strap wrap around sandals from Spring 2016 & love them; in fact, I pre ordered them. Why didn't you choose a cute print/fabric instead of satin? Where are the pretty prints? Where's the pink chino for women (ironically, you have one for men)? As always, there are a few nuggets, but overall, I'm kinda disappointed. Had such high hopes...there's still time, so I'm hoping there's more to the Spring 2017 roll out.
Thank you for speaking out, Mygoddy, I follow you on IG, from whence I've cleverly deduced that you're a savvy dresser who gives JC a lot of business. Maybe they'll listen to you.
Delete@Mygoddy, yes thank you for posting that for Jcrew!
DeleteThis is the first show where there is nothing that I'm loving and overall I feel confused about how this can be a step to a comeback. As others have said there are many pieces that go to production looking close to the fashion show representation, how can most of us wear these pieces IRL? The ruffle skirts show an incredibly high leg and I don't know how they'll make them without a slit that does that. I found most of the clothes either too revealing or too frumpy/ill fitting. This doesn't look like classic Jcrew to me- the lack of prints and beautiful colours is a shocker.
I have to say, I really don't get those ruffled skirts at all, just too much pomp for me.
DeleteI'm loving the many block heels they're showing, especially the lower ones, but I'm not so keen on the ankle wrap straps they've chosen. The colour blocking is great though, and I also love the velvet.
MyGoddy, that's how I feel too. I don't want to own any satin, ever. I don't even like ankle wrap shoes. I don't see anything from the show that I like, other than the pink/tan color combo which I can recreate from stuff I already have.
Delete@Mygoddy, ITA! Seriously disappointed just when I had such high hopes that they were heading in the right direction after the FW2016 show. And I'm so glad that I'm not the only one with an office policy that sees satin and sequins as not appropriate;-))
DeleteI've looked again a couple of times and it didn't get better. The only thing I like out of all of it is the guy's pink chinos. Nice shade but obviously not cut for women. So much of it looks costumey, from the flamenco skirts to the guy wearing the jungle explorer outfit.
Delete@jan @wellfedfred @cate @fleur de lys, hoping J Crew takes the feedback & uses it as they see fit. Just trying to be helpful to a brand that I really like & want to see do well. J Crew is still struggling as evidenced by its 2nd quarter resukts. Fingers still crossed for the turnaround!
DeleteI loved the models and hated the clothing.
DeleteIt was a sea of khaki hideousness.
There were a few outfits I found cool:
ReplyDeleteTamu McPherson's-Billowy mandarin collar shirt in French blue worn with a caramel color linen pencil skirt with tie-on laces at the front.
Also, a white button up shirt layered w a sheer light brown tee that has polka dots and embroidery paired with vertical striped tie-on pant in a light brown color.
Lastly, I know you guys will disagree, but I thought the khaki ball gown outfit with the tulle inside was cool. It's something this shortie can't wear but I love the execution.
I liked the color palate with a punch of neon pink, which has been absent since Marrisa Webb left the company.
The flower pins remind me of Sex and the City, when Carrie Bradshaw sported the look!
Amy wore a denim tie-on dress. Not sure if it was a two piece...

DeleteYou can also google Vogue.com J.Crew spring runway 2017. Their review of the show w photos is not up yet, but there you'll find individual shots of each outfit.
I like the neon pink - also like camel/khaki but that color (well, non-color) is no bueno up against my face.
DeleteI am very confused by the satin shorts. Who are those for? Certainly not practical for real life. (At least not this 36 year-old mom who works in an office's real life.)
While I generally like the slightly wacky way JC styles their show, a lot of this came off as frumpy to me. I like pieces of the collection but would put them together differently, and that is what is wonderful about fashion! As far as satin shorts and ball skirts, I like when something different is shown to off set the khakis! That is the life I live in my head (it is glorious!) Just saying no to the intentionally paint splattered khakis. When it's done on purpose it seems trite. JMO
DeleteJSR, I want to thank you.
DeleteYou did not use the word "pop" or, worse yet, to me, "pop of color."
You said, "punch of neon pink."
That "pop of color" phrase - ugh!
I appreciate your effective use of language!
I am also missing patterns and bright colors. I know the show is always the more editorial pieces but I don't see these items translating into things wearable for my life. Giant ruffle skirts and more off the shoulder, one shoulder tops aren't going to have me biting. I know some here will love but so far it does not look like my cup of tea.,
ReplyDeleteI don't care for this collection at all. The only item I liked was the skirt in Popsugar's first slide, the one being modeled with the khaki tshirt. So, I guess this will be not much of a J Crew year for me next Spring. I can make a skirt like that, and I wouldn't use polyester like they probably did.
Delete(the skirt with the faux wrap, tie at the waist..........not that fluffy ruffled monstrosity.)
DeleteNow I am agreeing with those who found the outfits ran the gamut from puzzling to repugnant.
ReplyDeleteI liked the concept of a variety of real women as models, but the execution failed. In my real life I try to pick clothes that fit me and are flattering in cut and color.
I liked the models a lot too! Just wish they'd been given something better to wear. The actual rollout usually has saner things in it, so maybe there's still hope for me to like something.
DeleteAfter looking at the collection about three more times since yesterday, I'm finding I like it less each time. The whole thing is very Carrie Bradshaw, which is great...if you're a socialite columnist from NYC. Yes the pieces are editorial, but I felt like last year's S/S presentation was pretty representative of what went to production.
ReplyDeleteThe conversation tees, the ruffled skirts, the neon poms, the tulle, the polka dots and all that satin are reading very Crewcuts to me. Once again, J.Crew has no idea who their core market is. Most of it looks sloppy and clumsy, and will likely not appeal to a broad market.
J.Crew is a catalog/internet/mall brand, and while that may not be pleasing to high fashion lovers, it is their business model, so they need to either change that completely or do some revamping of their recent strategy to provide flattering, wearable, quality clothing. Right now they're not doing either well.
I liked the use of friends as models, but the pieces - they were either "No" or "I think I already have that".
ReplyDeleteTo me, it looks like they ran out of time and weren’t able to finish the collection. Sloppy, wrinkled, skirts too long, more dropped shoulders (AAAGH!)...
I see where they’re trying to go back to their roots - but some of it looked really familiar. The polka-dot dress and flamenco skirts remind me of the Juan Carlos Obando skirt they did a few years ago, and the high-waisted satin shorts outfit reminds me of the Spring 2011 lookbook, complete with gauzy pink top over pink button-down top (ah, the white shorts outfit also looks similar).
I get that NYFW showcases mostly what will be Collection items - so are they focusing less on Collection and more on the regular line for SS2017? Because that’s what this seems like. I saw a JCA mention that they don't seem to be doing the Collection-specific shoots for the website anymore. I'm interested to see how this all translates for Spring 2017.
ITA with @silver_lining, so disappointing after the fabulous FW2016 show!
DeleteI have never been a fan of their FW presentations but I always find a thing or two to buy with every roll-out. Not too worried, they still get a high % of my clothes budget. Really nothing interesting out there which offer better value. While there are items I will never wear from the show (paint-splattered clothes, off shoulder, tulle) I am liking the new silhouette of fuller pants and skirts. I also like stripes better than the gingham of last summer. I am in the minority but I actually like that light blue flamenco skirt. Not for work or grocery shopping but at an event with a short-sleeve cashmere tee.
ReplyDeleteAgree with everything you said in your post, Marie. I still find an item or two that I love which each roll-out and I also think they're loads better value than some other retailers out there. Both that light blue flamenco skirt, as well as the polka dot tulle one wouldn't work for me personally, being so petite, but I could see them on the right person, for a special occasion. They look like fun, unique pieces.
DeleteI feel like one of the models could have been a middle aged woman that wears J.Crew everyday, has naturally curly hair and is walking a black and tan weiner dog!!! Maybe next year????
ReplyDelete...And looking fabulous on that runway! :-)
DeleteLoved seeing the diverse models!
DeleteThis may be old info, or off topic, but I just got an e-mail from Nordstrom with an ad featuring it'=s J Crew collection. I had no idea.

Yes me too! I was like what?! Maybe stuff sold out with J.crew may still be at nordstroms?!?!?!
DeleteI hope this doesn't mean the end to stand alone mall J Crew stores
DeleteUm..did you catch the stripped Breton shirt with the tutu skirt sewn at the bottom? Oh Dear.
ReplyDeleteLike an elementary school craft project. I know fashion is art and aspirational, etc., but what J. Crew threw up there this week was not art or fashion. It was a giant mess. I predict massive store closings over the next 12-24 months.
