This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this
post) says it best, "You know, that thing you
bought because you love it and you keep pulling it
out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please
share your J.Crew item (either that you own or
are thinking about getting) that you would love help
creating an outfit with.
Also,
please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel
free to include links to your blog (where you
incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you
showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance!
:)
As I mentioned in an earlier post this week, I scored the argyle Tippi in the burgundy / pink / grey colorway. Aside from black & grey I don't know what else would GO with this sweater. I have light grey wool Cafe Capris & a light grey wool No. 2 pencil skirt... It's such a great color combo altogether but I'm kind of stuck.
ReplyDeleteTaylor, how about a burgundy-ish pair of trousers? Or a skirt in that color? And, put that Boy shirt under it to show that you know how to do a trend! I think that would look cute, anyway.
DeleteTaylor, my comments were so undone by all the good ones you got - pink gingham shirt?? Perfect! OT a little, I just got an email from the clearance store about a 30% off sweaters and pants, including Collection and Partnership. Looks like I'll be headed that way tomorrow morning, early! Wish me luck.
DeleteOK, I am going to ramble here- in my eyes the argyle makes it masculine and the colors make it feminine. I like the idea of paring a hot pink blouse or scarf at the neck with your grey bottom. A chambray blouse underneath is cool. A cream and grey striped turtleneck. If you wanted to go all out a sequin skirt or (gasp) tulle skirt would take this to the next level! Masculine/feminine and dressy/utilitarian is always cool in my book. If you pair it with denim, a frilly or lacy collar blouse underneath would work. On the web site they show it with denim and nothing underneath the sweater. So phoned in! My belief in the three piece rule (always three pieces with pants or a skirt bottom) creates a complete outfit (sometimes tough to do in the heat of summer) It makes outfits seem more intentional. Hope that helps in some way!
ReplyDeleteYes! I do have the Blythe blouse in that hot pink shade from years ago - I'll try layering that underneath. I don't own any tulle or sequin skirts (my work wardrobe is very basic!) but I can see that working well too. I bet it would also look nice with a blouse under + blazer over, I do have a light grey blazer that would work. Thank you for your input!
DeleteWhat about wearing a pink gingham shirt under it. I'm not sure this would work but there's a new gingham shirt that just came out that is pink and burgundy? About wearing it with navy bottoms instead of black or gray. A girly multi strand pearl necklace or a blingy crystal necklace might look nice with it.
DeleteOoh yes, I like that idea too... now I "need" a pink gingham shirt. Thanks, SC. ;)
DeleteShopping Celle- Great ideas! This sweater is going to end up being your best friend Taylor!
DeleteI'm planning to wear it with the ivory-burg-pink wool mini skirt from the same rollout. Probably my gray and black skirts and pants, and maybe the khaki sammies? Love all the shirt underneath ideas!
Delete@Laura I LOVE the print on that skirt (& blazer!) but wish they'd made it in a pencil length... at 5'7" minis are a no-go for me.
Delete@shoppingcelle gingham shirt in pink and burgundy???? how did I miss that?! Is it on the website?
DeleteIt's the club collar boy shirt in burnished rhubarb, f4578. I ordered a few days ago and I should receive mine tomorrow. I was able to get it with the 25% off shirts promo with a 15% off bounce back card. I ordered one size up from my usual boy shirt size because I think this shirt runs small. I also got the lightweight boy shirt in oversized gingham in pine yesterday with the same discounts shipped from another store as my size was already gone online. I went up one size and I am glad that I did. The quality of the fabric is nice and I think the color will be awesome with lots of stuff. I can't believe that the boy shirt is now running smaller. That is what happened to the perfect shirt. What gives???
DeleteThanks @DD! I thought it was burgundy & white when I first saw it. I love burgundy & pink, so wish-listed ! I was thinking of sizing up too, but the boy shirts are usually a bit roomy on me. I'm going to ask my VPS for the measurements just to be sure. Will you do a review here on the blog?
Delete@fleurdelis i reviewed it yesterday
Delete@taylor - I got the skirt in a tall - I'm about 5'8 and the tall made it just above my knees. And long enough for work!
Delete@Laura - oooh great news! Thanks!
DeleteThis is the same color combination as the gingham bow blouse that someone was asking about. It was styled on jcrew.com with olive green and I could see this sweater with a pair of olive green utility pants.
ReplyDeleteAnd so my hunt for olive green pants continues! I do love olive + burgundy / pink so that's a great suggestion.
DeleteOlive/Burgundy/Pink is fabulous combo!
DeleteI shared a few end of summer outfits on the blog today (link here) featuring some of the J.Crew stretch cotton suiting, the red suede D'orsay tassel factory flats, stripe ruffle tee and the Edie top in shirting stripe. It's been so warm here, not quite time for fall clothes yet but we're close!
ReplyDeleteHi. I previously received some great advice from Anne and Suz Has on a prior question and I am hoping to strike gold again. I seem to be developing a pattern of buying pink print skirts that I have problems pairing with a top. My previous query involved the oversized gingham midi skirt in fuchsia rust, and now I have the double pleated skirt in vivid paisley in pink multi. What can I wear with it? They style it on the website with an oversized chunky sweater but it's not really my style and I think that am too short to pull off that combination. I did not get the matching top for the paisley skirt. Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI like mixing shades of pink. If the skirt is a darker tone pink, try a pale pink top, or vice versa, the tone the whole thing down with a neutral shoe/blazer/etc.
DeleteGray looks good with pink, and after seeing the Spring/Summer FW I liked the look of pink with tan.
Hi - I agree with cate's suggestions - I think you can do multiple shades of pink - I tried the bright pink ruffle Tippi with the skirt on my blog (link here if you want to see) and it was a LOT of pink but I had neutral shoes on which helped even it out - I think a tan or ivory top, navy would also work or even a dark chocolate brown. The skirt is on my list now that it's hit sale!
DeleteGreat recommendations already. Also, think you could try a candy apple red Tippi or sweater set. A close up view seems to show a magenta, so I could see that working too. The top is styled with a dark denim, so you might try the reverse on top with a dark chambray denim shirt i.e. Something like the denim gauze popover that's still available. I think you could also try a leather jacket in tan, black or brown; layer with a Tippi or turtleneck. Then you could pair with booties or a full length boot.
DeleteThanks cate, Anne and mygoddy! Can't wait to try out the ideas. Thanks so much for your thoughts and time.
