J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. An FYI on the Cleo stripe loafers (a1839) - I wanted to Scotch-Gard mine so that they'd stay nice longer but when I tested them for colorfastness, the navy rubbed off, so I wasn't able to do so per the instructions on the can. I just wanted to put it out there in case anybody else was thinking of using a fabric protector on them. They are very cute.

    1. Gigi swears by vectra spray - maybe that will work?

  2. I ordered the Collection stripe skirt (item A5299) and the matching Collection cropped stripe v-neck sweater
(item A5298 ) and ended up returning both. I was underwhelmed, and while a fan of stripes, these were too contrasting. Also, I didn't like the off-white color with the navy. I would have preferred pure white and navy. Lastly, the feel of the jersey was too stiff and not "springy" (elastic) enough for me.

  4. Has anyone else out there tried on the Embroidered Chambray Tunic ? I loved it on the website but went to the store to try on my usual size 0 and found it to be really short for a tunic. It fit through the shoulders and arms but there is a side slit on each side that comes almost up to my waist! So, unless you are wearing a cami underneath, there is about a 3-4 inch swath of skin showing. Not good! I may go back and try the next size up or order a 2 Tall to see if the length is any better! I am only 5'4" so I was really surprised!

    1. item A8431

I'm also 5'4" and went with my usual (perfect shirt) size 2. I feel like it's called a tunic but not really supposed to be that long. And because of the v neck, I'm definitely wearing a cami under it. Mine fits very much like it does on the model.

    2. It is misnamed to me. I'm 5'3 and definitely is not a tunic. I took my normal size, but yes, it does need something under it unless you are comfortable showing some skin. I'm on the fence with this one. My best friend bought it and has rocked it, though.

    3. I reviewed the chambray tunic and also the white one on my blog.
Just go a few posts down:)

    4. Thanks for the feedback everyone...I may go back and try the 2....they still had a lot of them!

    5. I bought the striped one and I love it. It's not long like a tunic. I don't need to wear a cami underneath it either. I loved the way it fit. I am 5'3 100 pounds, ordered a 00. It is not wide and boxy like some of their tops. Mine is a keeper.

  5. I just got my Nike Vintage Waffle Racers and OMG I LOVE them! They are one of the most comfortable pairs of tennis shoes I've ever worn. They feel like pillows around the top of my feet. I can't comment to how they'd be as true workout shoes. I don't plan on using them that way. I think they're more of a stylish tennis shoe that will look adorable all summer long and be great for family outings or days when I'm doing a lot of running around (which is most days, lol!). The website recommends sizing down 1.5 sizes from your normal shoe size, which is what I did and the fit is perfect. I know they're on backorder - I waited a couple months for mine, but they were definitely worth the wait. I wish I had them a month earlier when I was in NYC for the weekend.

    1. Echo that. I have both the red and the navy. I have worn them just for fashion statement for a couple of years now. Highly recommend. Would love to get the green as well, then I could have the trifecta of waffle racers! I wear size 8 and got 6.5 and perfection.

    2. I might have to try to get them in other colors as well. Wore them all day and they were amazing! I've looked online, though, and I've only seen them on the JC website. Have you seen them anywhere else?

    3. I have not. There are probably some on ebay.

  6. OT but does anyone have a suggestion for getting out grass stain from say some white JCrew matchstick jeans? Not throwing anyone under the bus, but thanks Doodle for making me lose my balance and fall in the grass. I guess that is what I get for wearing white before Memorial Day. I have tried peroxide, oxyclean, clorox bleach stick and can still see it just slightly. I thought about distressing them some how at the knee to hide it if it won't come out. Suggestions welcome.

    1. My husband swears by 409 on a grass stain.

    2. i've never tried this on grass stains, but it's worked for me on other stains:

equal parts hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to make a paste (and a little hot water if it's too thick)... rub it in and let it sit for at least half hour. rinse it off and then toss in washing machine and wash as usual.

    5. Grass stains are tough. I use plain white vinegar, alternating with soap. Use cold water running through the fabric, then pour vinegar, then rinse, then use soap (I like clear liquid ivory) and rub the fabric together with the soap (but not too hard - it abrades the fabric).

You'll have to stand at the sink for a while, alternating, then you might want to soak the stained part of the pant in a soapy / vinegar solution and come back to it later.

      good luck.

    7. You might also try Fels Naptha-it's an old fashioned laundry bat soap. It works on my sons' baseball pants. Some grocer carry it; if not, prob Walmart/Target. Good luck!

  7. has anyone tried the patch pocket skirt in stretch cotton #a4833? Could you do a review? Thanks!!!

    1. I personally loved this skirt. Owned so many pencil skirts from JCREW before it is a nice subtle change with the slightly flared a-line pocket skirt. I wish they make this in more colors, I got the white and navy, think they fit true to size to slightly big (due to the stretch cotton) but I wouldn't necessarily size down. I also like that it isn't a full blown a-line skirt, so you can still get that slim look pencil skirts offer. I haven't worn them out yet due to the uncooperative weather lately, so I don't know if the material still stretch out during the day. Hope this help!

    2. Couture....Thank you so much! I LOVE when the Crew does a skirt like this....I agree. So much easier to wear than a pencil skirt. I think I need all three colors!

  8. OT but has anyone else checked out saturday.com yet? It's the Kate Spade brand - style and price comparable to JCREW plus free ship/returns!

  9. I just received my first J Crew Factory order today. Ordered the Claire Cardigan which is 100% cotton as opposed to the blend of the Jackie. It's very soft and seems comparable in terms of buttons and quality.

    1. I have both Jackies & Clares - side-by-side you can't tell the difference. I've heard from others that the Clare has issues with loose buttons/buttons falling off but I have never experienced this. I love that they're 100% cotton!

    2. Thanks for the feedback! I've had issues with the Jackies in terms of loose buttons and holes so this could be an improvement :-)

  11. Review here of the drapey pink geo skirt (not for me) and the prima drop-shoulder jersey tee (bought 2 in grey).

  12. Really like the silk stripe sleeve tee (a4935). Are there JCA's who bought this and did you like it? The silk looks quite substantial in the picture. Wondering if it has a relaxed fit or not, is it TTS? Love to hear from you.

    2. maqsad, thanks so much. They look really great on you. I am going to order the green today since it qualifies for the new discount code. I don't know yet if I'm going to get the red and blue since I have both those colors in the silk maxidress...

    3. Hi D*ska! I love the green and blue ... I wish could wear a plunging neckline bc the silk maxi dress in Pinot is available... But in attempting to cover up, I'd end up losing the point if the dress. I just have to look away bc it breaks my heart. I like these bc they are easier/more modest. They'll simply get more wear with my lifestyle. You'll love the green, I think.

  14. Got the Factory stripe Isabelle pumps yesterday! So excited. I took my normal J.Crew size 9 (I find that J.Crew runs a half size big, I'm normally an 8.5 in other brands). They fit identical to the patent Isabelle pumps in nude (Which I also love!). These striped pumps are made from red textured fabric and navy grosgrain..I really like the alternating textures and colors. It gives the shoes something extra! They are pretty comfortable too..so far I've only worn them around the house.
