This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this
post) says it best, "You know, that thing you
bought because you love it and you keep pulling it
out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please
share your J.Crew item (either that you own or
are thinking about getting) that you would love help
creating an outfit with.
Also,
please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel
free to include links to your blog (where you
incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you
showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance!

A few everyday outfits with J.Crew and Madewell "Paris" things HERE. :)
ReplyDeleteOT: Madewell has extra 40% off sale with code HAPPYMAY, through May 5th.
ReplyDeleteMe, not in Loft jeans! I liked my outfit yesterday, all J Crew. The sweater is the merino side-tipped in heather cloud. The jeans are Factory (19023), dazzling pebble necklac and the patent Martina wedges.
ReplyDeleteI just posted a guest review by Ema of the Natasha pumps.
More reviews here. Incl the photofloral sweatshirt, photofloral top w/the eyelet back, drapey linen pants and eyelet back-zip tee (why are you $78?).
ReplyDeleteGot the Maya sandals in beige stone last weekend (on sale in the store plus 40% discount on top of sale price). They are extremely comfortable.
ReplyDeleteI have a question for all you handbag aficionadas out there. I recently bought two bags on ebay, the brompton straw mini hobo and the brompton mini hobo in leather. These are a bit of an investment for me; I've always gone for cheaper bags before that wear out after a season or two, but lately I've been wanting something I can use for several years.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm sadly lacking in knowledge or experience in caring for higher quality bags. What do I need to know about bag maintenance? Do I need to have the leather cleaned every season? Do I need to treat the straw to keep it from fraying? Should I keep the bags stuffed with tissue when I'm not using them or let them relax? I'm planning on getting base shapers to keep the bottom of the bags from sagging - is it okay to use a rectangular shaper, or should I use ones that match the hourglass shape of the leather bottom? Is it okay to leave the base shaper in the bag when it's in storage? Am I over-thinking this?
I'd appreciate any advice anyone has!
Hi innisfree,
DeleteI'm not so great with my leather bags. I could treat them more kindly when I drag them around with me. I do however store them well I believe. When not in use the larger bags are cleaned with leather wipes, stuffed with acid free tissue paper and kept in the cloth sleeper bags that they came with (if your bags didn't come with those you can probably pick some up on eBay). It's imperative that you cover the bags to keep away dust and wayward marks when stored for a season. I like the opaque cloth ones because I tend to leave my closet lights on and I think that those florescent lights can fade leather much like sunlight. I may be wrong. I store them on a shelf and pin a photo of the bag to the sleeper bag for easy identification. I don't think it's a great idea to have the bags touch each other because color can transfer. I'm not sure about shapers but sound like they should work fine since it's not really a great idea to let them fold upon themselves. You could let them take a few days breather, laying flat, before stuffing and putting away. Never hang handbags when you don't use them.
I wrap smaller bags and clutches in a sheet of tissue paper and store in a clear storage box.
I usually attempt to clean my leather bags with the wipes after each use. I do not have them professionally cleaned unless they are 1) worth the expense of cleaning and 2) truly filthy looking. I've only ever had a leather handbag professionally cleaned once.
Hope that helped some. That's about all I know on leather care. I don't own any straw bags.
D*ska, thanks so much for the helpful advice! I was feeling pretty ignorant about how to treat my bags, and researching on the internet just led to a lot of conflicting information. Thanks especially for the tip about the leather wipes - I had no idea such a thing existed!
Deletehi....just received the pre-ordered slim linen pants in navy. I love them. They are the same fit as the paley and probably similar to the fit of the eaton as well.
ReplyDeleteSo they are higher rise...they sit at the waist. I look silly in the cafe capris as they are too low and the back has the dreaded gap.
Thank J CREW for making me trousers that I can wear....Also I got them for $ 68.60 with the sale and % off. Also Canadian JCA's there was no increase in price...this one puzzled me as we all know the mark up is usually 20-30% maybe sales are low in Canadian because of our dollar....hmmmmm
late post but updated with some outfit ideas over at ebelandi
ReplyDeleteHi, I just bought the an Evening Primrose brynn dress on eBay for an evening wedding. I remember LOVING the dress when it was in store but I cannot remember what colors we were pairing it with. ( I was a personal stylist there for a few years). I'm racking my brain trying to figure it out but not having it in hand yet I'm drawing a blank. Help!
ReplyDeleteSharon Nelson - there are numerous sets created on Polyvore using the Evening Primrose print. I did not find one with the dress, but perhaps the sets with the top and cardigan will help you decide on the colors to pair with it. Click here to see the sets.
