London premium menswear indie Trunk Clothiers has become the first UK menswear stockist of US casualwear brand J Crew.
Trunk Clothiers, which opened on September 9 in London’s Marylebone, will stock a range of shirts from the US brand and will add more products if it proves successful. ...
J Crew, which is available in the US and shipped to online customers in Japan, made its UK wholesale debut in February launching womenswear on luxury etailer Net-a-Porter.
Trunk Clothiers founder and managing director Mats Klingberg got to know the brand through his previous job as a senior manager in global partnerships at American Express.
He told Drapers: “I met the [J Crew] creative director at a cocktail party in Japan. The brand wanted to test the UK market and they liked the brand mix and target customer of the store. We’re starting slowly with only shirts but I hope it will become more.”
Klingberg funded and designed the two-storey Trunk Clothiers store himself, with a palette of warm greys and light wood, which he said nodded to his Swedish heritage. It will launch a transactional website later this month.
He added that he wanted to create a shop that would cater to an international audience, offering “easy to wear, intelligently-designed clothes” and excellent customer service. ...
What are your thoughts on J.Crew selling its private brand through another storefront? Do you think it is a smart move? Will you shop at Trunk Clothiers if you live in the area?
I am such a nerd! I am making my husband go while he is in London this week on business just so I can know more about Trunk.
