Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I did a Facebook Live video (under 6 min) showing the Factory light indigo shirtdress, new silk Blythe and garment-dyed trench dress. Click here to view. All three fit TTS for me.

I'm not sure I will visit a store this weekend. Maybe walk thru retail to look around even though I've been in a number of times in the past few weeks.

    1. Anthro blogger, when I was in my store on Wednesday the sale items were an extra 40% off.

    2. Same for me. I saw a post by @shoppingcelle that her store was 50% off sale.

    3. I was in store yesterday and it was 50% off sale, 30% off shoes - though didn't check whether that was select shoes or all shoes.

    4. Does anyone know the fabric content of the postcard skirt? I'm suspicious that by hiding something so basic, they know of the many objections to polyester. Total deal breaker for me during summer in the South.

    5. Short Hills NJ was 40% off SALE today. I think non sale stuff was 25% but didn't look too closely.

  4. Wow, J.Crew. Your mobile site is the worst. Can't even go in to the sale section. Search takes forever to load, or it doesn't load at all. What's going on?

    2. entire site is very wonky again today. I'm guessing they fired the experienced (more expensive) IT people who do the regular cleanups and maintenance.

    3. site is very buggy today. can pull stuff up in regular sections but search and sorting locks it up. I did post yesterday in another thread that you can now filter the regular product sections by size and color (yay) so I wonder if they're having issues because of updates. Not an excuse though...

    4. The website has been pretty crappy for several months now. It seems like ever since it crashed and was down for a day or so a while back.

  5. Yes. It affects not just mobile site, but also the regular site. Incredibly frustrating not to be able to sort or search. I guess they are trying to help us buy less!

  6. On the other hand, absent fabulous popbacks which are getting rarer and rarer, I'll wait until tomorrow's promo kicks in:

    2. Thanks, WFF. I am mostly at J Crew for fabulous popbacks. Were I a software engineer, I would create a pop back alert app. I am not certain that would be a wise investment, though, as with the sea change, I think these rare creatures may become extinct. 1. Agree. Maybe the collection embroidered stripe flats? Only item I'd put on my sale wishlist. Hopefully, the actual rollout is better. I will stop by to pick up linen shorts (green gingham and pink side tie) and tan linen stripe tank. Stopped by earlier this week to pick up Drake tie shoulder tiled elephant print dress; it was on my wishlist & now on sale. I really like it. Planning to take them on vacation and prices are 👍🏽. Sale is the way to go right now.

    2. Also like featherweight cashmere wrap sweater, but no go in Texas summers. Would only be a late summer pick up on sale for fall transition.

    3. Mygoddy those striped flats look fun, but I'm surprised-not-surprised by the inflated mark-up.

Also would buy the Dragon Diffusion woven flats in white were it not for the navy cap toe. I've been searching for an all-white breathable summer shoe like that. Don't like the color blocking.

The only thing I'm eyeing is the green safari jacket since I'm pregnant with my third baby and already in maternity clothes early in the 2nd trimester. However I'm not sure how I'll sneak in yet another safari jacket since this morning I asked my hubby to grab my green jacket from the mud room to take my instagram picture this morning. He brought up my anthro jacket instead of my j crew jacket and when I asked him to grab the other green he said "you have a problem." This happened right after another incident a few days ago when I asked him to throw down my pink lace up flats and he shows me my hot pink ones and I wanted the light pink ones. Maybe I do have a problem lol!!!!

  9. I'm speechless! Thanks for the sneek peak link. What can I say? That is some of the worst, craziest, strangest collection of odd things I seen from any retailer! Please someone explain to me the tulle vest with polka dot pom poms and ruffles? A strapless dress made of strips of raffia? That striped tee with the big patches sewn on it? The washed out green cotton dress with the washed out big blue bow? UGH. When I can't even find a piece of jewelry or a scarf I like from the entire rollout...it's bad. The only item I actually looked at up close is the Jackie sweater with swimmers print. It didn't make me say roll my eyes...but I'm not buying it. Ok...bring on the fall items!

    1. yup...the whole summer line has been a dud. hope fall is alot better...

    2. Each rollout it seems there is less and less to love. We are so far from classics with a twist right now. Stray Cat I agree with you that the collection tulle vest and raffia dress are the worst offenders but I really just can't take all the giant rufffles and bows on everything. I don't see one thing I would put on my wishlist right now and am starting to give up hope for the fall.

      Delete
    3. I actually like multiple items, which seem to me to be examples of the classics with a twist - updating stripes with eyelet, adding a pretty sleeve or knot detail to sheath dresses, the breezy smocked knot tops. There are definitely some crazy items, and I don't think the darker colored pieces read "summer," but there are some pretty things.

      Delete
    4. I was actually into the tulle vest, because I love tulle, but I was disappointed it wasn't actually layered like it is on the model. It's less interesting. Where is the peach tulle part coming from?

I think it would be cool the way they have it over a button up or over a simple dress. It's a decorative vest, as many vests are.

      Delete
    5. Jessica, I agree with you about the vest. The product image looks really cool. I don't understand the peach part that's in a couple of the images either. It's like she's wearing another vest in a peach color underneath.

      Delete
    6. @Lauren, that's how it looks to me, too. Maybe the peach vest is in the new roll out and is just not part of the preview.

      Delete
    7. @Lauren @maryeb I found the peach tulle styled with another item, G5006. So I guess it's its own item. I like it, but not enough to pay for the pieces separately. Hopefully it will be unpopular and I can buy them both on sale.

  11. I'm sad - I love the postcard print, but there isn't anything in the print that I want (I guess the skirt is sold out? isn't coming? is only being sold to 5 women in Brooklyn?), and nothing else looks like me.

Ruffles and off-the-shoulder are styles that you only need a tiny bit of. I bought the ruffled short-sleeve sweater (the one in navy) and that's all the ruffles I need, thanks.

  15. Thanks for the sneak peak links.. OMG.. what the eff is Bow-shoulder top item G7062? For women with broad shoulders or non-stick-like arms: do you want to highlight that part of you with contrast trim AND bows?? Do I want my arms to look like sausage gifts?? And don't even get me started on Collection polka-dot tulle vest with ruffle trim item G6315. What the actual eff!!
Contrastingly, I like the swimmer print on the Jackie (item G3950) but it reminds me of the swimmer prints that Jil Sanders have been doing for.. uh.. 5 years. A bit derivative and late to the game, but I'd put it on my sale wishlist (definitely not paying FP for a $75 cotton cardigan that I know will fade in 3 washes). I also like the print of the Pierre Frey for J.Crew scarf in in Alexandrie print item G6186 - it looks like something from Tommy Bahama but I am strangely drawn to how it looks a little like a print from a vintage botanical encyclopedia.

  16. In the minority here as there are several items I like.
Post card print, not my usual style, but the colors are so pretty and Summery to me. I'm tempted to get something in this print.
Alexandrie print caught my eye, too. Not sure about the fabric content, but it could work well in chilly air conditioned spaces.
Beaded Lucite hoops. Might be too big, but they look really pretty to me on-line.
Smocked top, looks so cool and breezy. Wish it was offered in a pretty turquoise or cobalt blue. Debating between the black and the white.
Ruffle shoulder sheath dress, love the eyelet detail.
Embroidered Sling back flats. Not sure how the beading will hold up, but I would love to wear these with a neutral outfit to add a fun pop.
Bow-shoulder top,Im thinking I may be a bit too old to wear such a cute top, but I do like it.

    1. to tell you the truth, if I didn't have such fat arms (and if I were 15 years younger) I think I'd like the bow shoulder top too. 18. I've gone this whole season without an off the shoulder or peekaboo shoulder or half off the shoulder ....and damn proud of it. But I am soooooo freaking tired of seeing it (and not on the women around town, they style it well and they're actually quite few in between). Why are there so many dang off the shoulder things??? Get the hint, we're not buying it. I would have bought all these A-line dresses, made of cotton, some cute details as long as they had a little sleeve or straps or three quarter sleeves anything! Gah. Frustrated. Also, none of these fit conservative-attire DC (which Jcrew would be perfect for ha!).

    3. Not a fan of the OTS style either. I can't imagine where I'd wear it, but mostly I don't want to fuss with my clothes and with OTS I'd be fussing with an uncomfortable strapless bra and with keeping the top or dress OTS.

  19. I will probably not make it to the store this weekend but will stop in next week to check out the new arrivals in person.

I did receive a package today of a few popbacks - the nautical stripe mini ($21) which is so cute as long as I don't wear it up on my actual waist it hits above the knee. Nice and airy for summer. I also grabbed the waterfall statement necklace which I'm excited to finally have.

I had two coupons in my box - one for 15% off and one that has to be a mistake that it was in my box - it's a 20% off coupon for "new" customers. Yeah, not me. But I'll take it. Both coupons are stackable on other codes which is awesome so keep an eye out in your packages!

    1. I agree. I am not in love with the postcard print. But, then again, post card prints rarely do it for me. I agree with everyone who thinks these clothes are loony toons. There's "twists" and then there's "off the wall." And, I am a person who likes a closet full of special clothes -- I rarely gravitate toward the basics. But, slapping a ruffle on everything or making clothes out of banana peels is not the answer. Ironically, I mentioned yesterday that I liked the Marc Jacobs Summer '17 polka dot pattern. The silk polka dot skirt is the only thing caught my eye, but: (1) it's $348; (2) it looks like cheap silk in the photo; and (3) the styling with the "hook-up" off the shoulder ruffle top is just hideous. Oh well, I'm a broken record, Debbie downer about the Crew lately, but I'm sad that the affair is over. Eventually I'll get over it, but for now, I'll just be bitter to whomever will listen.

    2. It reminds of all the reproduction print fabrics for crafting and household sewing that feature cutesy motifs....cowgirls, playing cards/dice, skulls, hearts....I've been to hundreds of craft fairs and seen these fabrics. Sadly the postcard print items remind me of those fabrics...and that's not a good thing.

    7. I thought the same about the Postcards print being reminiscent of the Library print, maryeb, and I had an old Postcards print skirt that I loved. But on a closer look, I really don't like the yellow/orange on the black background. Another disappointment :(

      Delete
  23. I agree with you both that I don't get the appeal of the postcard print at all. It reminds me of a childhood Halloween costume where I wore one of my grandmother's 70's house dresses with her trademark coral lipstick.
That postcard print is too loud even for me, and this is coming from someone with a cacophonous closet bursting with loud prints, clashing florals, and neon chevrons (I take after my grandmother).
The only thing in the entire rollout that caught my eye (in a good way) was the polka dot Ratti print skirt. If it had pockets I'd be full-on swooning, but that 348$ tag is a bummer. Still, some of the Collection skirts have been upwards of 500$ lately, so I guess it's a deal by comparison? Once you hit that price range I feel you're better off checking out Net-A-Porter or Moda Operandi for a real designer fix... No wonder JCrew has lost its clientele.

    1. EllieB, I think J Crew has lost a lot of customers who went to designer (on sale) in recent years and view J Crew with the fast fashion places for trendy pieces - covered in fruit and ruffles, most recently.

Does anyone know the fabric content of the Postcards Skirt? No description online and if silk is $348 in this rollout, then what is $89.50? I'm afraid to ask.

      Delete
    2. Ruffles: I'm one of the ones who "up tiered" when J Crew lost its magic. I still buy some things, but its just not the same. But I'd be back on a heartbeat if they could find their old magic again!

    3. Where are y'all going if not to J. Crew? I've had trouble finding a replacement. I think Milly and Kate Spade can be good substitutes and maybe Tory Burch but I don't find they have the variety.

      Delete
    4. Mary G I buy a lot less. I haven't left our dear retailer, though. I buy less from them, less from other brands. I will shop Nordstrom or local boutiques, plus old new J Crew on eBay. There's a lot of crap put there, even from spendy designers, frankly, so I have trimmed my closet. It's better this way.

      Delete
    5. It is hard to find a J Crew replacement. I've been shopping a lot on ShopBop. They carry a lot of brands - lots of cute things.

      Delete
    6. @Mary G., that's a good question and one that I've asked myself. I'm the kind of shopper that sticks with a handful of retailers and currently, JC is the one where I shop the most. (Before JC, I used to shop primarily at Banana, for example.) Like many fellow JCAs, I've been shopping less, due to a combination of things: thoughtful purchases, owning plenty of stuff and not seeing too many 'must -haves.'

I can't think of another retailer that I might turn to - Banana, Loft and Ann Taylor seem to use nothing but polyester these days. (Related: I got an email from Loft about new arrivals and a pretty yellow sleeveless dress caught my eye. When I checked the description, I saw that it is 100% polyester. Poly doesn't work too well in humid, muggy NYC so that became a quick no.) No one comes close to colors or prints like JC does (or used to do - prints have been lacking of late). Boden seems to have a nice print or two and they certainly offer quality, but their price point is more than what I usually want to spend.

In any case, I'm sure it'll be a while before we see any true fallout from a retailer like JC totally going out of business.

      Delete
    7. I stick to Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's for shoes and dresses. Nordstrom has some affordable casual pieces but you have to be good about looking for them and buying them before they sell out. The cute affordable stuff always sells out. I still buy work pants from Banana. Loft is way too cheaply made that I don't even step foot in the store. I also have a few things from madewell but their price point is a little ridiculous for some of their items and they never have a promo. But in general I've slowed down my shopping to things that I really need.

      Delete
    8. Thanks for the suggestions. I'd forgotten about Shopbop. Will check them out. Like Shopping Celle (below in comments) I will miss the visual stimulation of shopping. I've had money for clothes and I've had periods of little money for clothes, but I've always enjoyed retail. It's hard to see that world die such a slow and ugly death.

    4. IMO, J. Crew started faltering when they went public. Late 2004 to 2007, the focus was on really beautiful high quality clothing. I am not joking when I say I would almost be breathless going through their catalog, some of the items were incredible. They went public mid-2006 to a lot of fanfare. Profit became the focus and quality became the compromise. I would have loved this blog so much in 2005/2006 because I would practically be saying out loud "Is anyone looking at how amazing some of these clothes and shoes are?" I even wrote them and Mickey responded. The changes were subtle at first, they whiplashed high-end, had some super glitzy catalogs like I think September 2010(?) but it's been a slow decline for a while now.

  28. Well on a positive note, I got a few of my JCrew and Madewell orders and I love everything!

I bought the paper-bag skirt in the mauve color and it fits so perfectly. I think with a simple white tank, it will look really fun for work and be comfortable for warm summer weather.

The tie-waist shorts in the Liberty floral print, also super cute and the 6 fit great. I am having a lot of luck with high waist things at JCrew lately. Normally have issues with gaping since I come from a line of very hourglass-pear shaped women and modern clothing isn't very accommodating of that.

The suiting tanks are perfect. While I am happy I got them on 50% off final sale, I am also now sad they'll be discontinued. This is the type of garment you need to replace with wear and they're just the perfect material and cut to wear to work. They don't feel to casual or skimpy like other cotton tanks do.

My first Madewell purchase (other than belts and acessories) were a big hit. I have more coming. The silk wrap skirt, G6470, is light airy and delicate, without being flimsy.

I was able to order the side-button midi skirt, G5460, from a Seattle store. Nice weight, adorable fit. I am waiting for the matching crop top.

    1. I would have purchased the liberty shorts and would have love to have been able to do the other J Crew shorts in the prints ...but they are just too short. only a few inches more and I would have been ordering multiples.

    2. Jessica, nice to hear. Will you try for the Thorpe top, then? I was just able to get the top and shorts in my size on pop back. Even though I have the dress already... The print is great, and I like wearing Liberty to work. I decided the colors will be good going into fall, too.

Unknown, I agree the tie-waist shorts could be longer in that I would love more length when sitting down. I have to tug the shorts to sit comfortably. I'm definitely not in the running for that deportment prize ;) However, with that silhouette, I realize extra length would appear awkward. The bow, when tied in front, stays in place all day, and need not be fiddled with even for bathroom purposes. The accenting of the waist on this style makes me look trim and polished even with a simple tee that I think would otherwise look too casual or borderline sloppy. So, not perfect, but the best option I've found. (I think nylons are a good idea with these, though not essential if it's really hot out). I hope they find a good-looking way to add more length, too @Unknown.

    3. @Jessica, thank you for the reviews! I'm so glad the paperbag skirt worked out for you!

    4. I get what you mean about the short length. I am quite petite though and I like the mini look on me, whether my thighs are perfect or not :p. I could not pull of a high waist, giant bow, floral print, *and* long inseam. I would look like a clown.

    5. Oh dear now I'm nervous. My VPS just ordered the Liberty toe waist shorts and Thorpe shirt for me on pop backs. She ordered my usual size in the shorts but I'm thinking between the high waist and the short inseam, maybe I should have gotten them one size up?

    6. eeps, I have the Liberty shorts and I took my regular pants size in them. I'm 5'8" and they are on the short side but I didn't find them to be annoying to sit in, tie/untie during the day. Personally I think sizing up would make them too voluminous around the leg area - I think you'll probably be fine with your regular size. I hope they work out for you!

    7. Oof. I got the Liberty shorts yesterday (super fast shipping, but then again, they were shipping within NYC). I tried them on last night but not properly - slipped them on under my dress. I'm 5'1 and they feel very short when sitting down. I feel naked in the back area... and they have a bloomers feel about them. Need to try them property when the Thorpe shirt arrives, but I am not enthused about how short the shorts are even at my height. But great quality - they're lined!

  29. Thanks for the reviews, @Jessica. A white tank with the Mauve paper-bag waist skirt sounds like a great Summer pairing.
Glad you found the side-button midi. It's been sold out on-line.
I've got my eye on a couple of Madewell items. Eyelet Peekaboo top and the Eyelet Bell sleeve shirt. Clearly I'm a sucker for eyelet.

    1. Maryeb, I just received the Eyelet Bell Sleeve top from Madewell and am so disappointed with the length of the shirt. It's just too short and boxy on me :( I admired it on Ina but she did mention it runs a little short. I even ordered up a size (I'm kind of between sizes) hoping for a little more length. I'm not tall (5'4") but I do have a long toros.

    2. That's disappointing. It's such a pretty shirt. I'm 5'3.5", so the length will probably be too short for me too. Thanks so much for letting me know @Lauren!!

    3. I guess that's off my wishlist. Did they design it so that you buy their high-waisted jeans?

    4. I didn't mean to discourage you all. With the free shipping and returns it might be worth trying. One of the reviewers is 5'7" and seems to be happy with the top. You may be pleasantly surprised!

    5. Hopefully it works out for you.

I'm sure they've designed it for people who already like high-waisted jeans and shorter tops. Just giving them the benefit of the doubt.

    6. I'll try it I guess 😊. I'm short waisted, it may just work for me...

    7. I emailed customer service and got the measurements for the shirt in x-small and small:
      Points of Measure XS S
Front Body Length from HPS 22 22
      Across Shoulder 14.375 14.875
      Chest Circumference 37.5 39.5
      Sweep Circumference 43.5 45.5
Sleeve Length from Center Back 18 18

    8. I ordered the small thinking I would get more length. Since this says they are the same length maybe I would like the x-small better since it isn't quite as wide? I think I'll try that before I write it off.

    9. Thanks @Lauren! The measurements are really helpful. I hope the shirt works out for you.
Still debating myself, but I think it's worth a try. I forgot about the free return offer for Madewell insiders. I wasn't sure I wanted to sign up for this program, but I can't see any downside to it.

  30. Looking real dismal for brick and mortar retail stores- CNN had an article "Ann Taylor, Dress Barn, Loft, Lane Bryant: Store closures on the way" discussing closures in addition to closures of Macy stores k mart sears game stop bebe, etc and with the empty tenants, soon shopping malls will expect to close-20-25%. I'm just imagining now our world in another 50 yrs-- all virtual, all online. Or the current directions- mini cities- no malls but high rises with retail store fronts under residential.

I been thinking a lot about this lately. It is very depressing to me as one who enjoys the visual and tactile experience of shopping. It makes me sad to think about the demise of our retail stores. Everyone of those numbers of stores closing, represents the families and spending power of the employees that work there when they lose their jobs. As one who has been at a company that shutters their doors it is heartbreaking. At the same time I am realizing that I really don't need to keep buying clothes, accessories and shoes because my closet is overflowing. It is a conundrum.

  31. Anyone know when new arrivals will be online?

  32. Off topic, but I visited the Christiana, DE JCrew last night. They will be closing their store as of 6/18. They've only been open there for about 7 years.

  34. Sure would be great if Madewell would restock some of their more popular items. The new arrivals right now are terrible.
