J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Received the Madewell Eyelet Bell Sleeve Shirt (G4889) - Ordered size xs and it fits TTS. Even though it's such a sweet top, I decided to return it because:

-I need more work appropriate tops.
-the body is short, and I have short torso! When I raise my arms, my tummy shows. They purposely make tops short to match w their high waisted jeans.

  2. New items at factory this morning, including the New York tee. I'm sizing up to accommodate my bump and should be a fun thing to wear this fall as part of my maternity wardrobe.

    1. New York tee $39.50 @factory and no % off?!?
Slightly different from the retail version: drawings have less detailing and Empire State building is replaced by the word LOVE.
I wanted to check the fabric content but the tee has disappeared from the site ?1?

    2. So weird, just went to complete my order and the tee is gone. What?!? It couldn't possibly be sold out already. It's just gone from the site.

  3. Eyelet top with tassel trim (G5845) - This is a pretty cute top, TTS, warm clover is a pretty color although not quite like the green on my monitor. The item pic is accurate - the top is literally a square with the detail at the top and shoulders, which isn’t the most flattering on my short torso/high hip body. I feel like if the bottom part was more flowy than crisp, it would look better on me. The tassels are funny - instead of being a knot with the fringe coming out, the “knot” is a small, spongy ball. I’ve never seen anything like it - and probably nobody would notice it - but it was a strange (and I’m sure cost-cutting) detail. There are tiny scallops between the tassels, so if you removed the tassels it might not look even.

Strapless cross-front top (G6869) - Another cute, TTS top that is a square with top detail. Again, if this had even the tiniest bit of “flow” it would’ve been more flattering on me. The cross-fronts on the top I received were not symmetrical (on purpose? I’m not sure) so even when I had the zipper in line with the middle of my back, the front still seemed off-center.

  4. Repeating my comment from yesterday: Nordstrom released their sneak peek of the Aniversary sale catalog. I posted some favorite looks & 2 pages of outfits by Jcrew and Madewell and I posted them on my Instagram.

    1. Thanks for posting! I don't get the catalogue, so this is a treat.

    2. i might actually splurge this year and buy one of those blazers. i bought a plain grey herringbone one years back (to be all practical and stuff) but i've always loved those plaid blazers (especially when they have the elbow patches). there hasn't been a lot that i've liked lately and i haven't been spending as much as usual, so maybe this might get me to spend some $$$

    4. Miss JR. I think that blazer would be a great wardrobe addition.

    5. Rashawnda, I agree that the sale is not nearly as good as before.

  5. Madewell reviews. Eyelet Bell-Sleeve shirt - Fit tts. It is slightly cropped, not a problem for me as I plan to wear the JC nude silk cami or white Perfect-fit tank top under it. There really is no need to wear anything under it, can't really see anything except maybe in direct sunlight, but I just prefer to have something underneath.

Embroidered Hilltop Shirt - Lightweight, cool cotton fabric. Not too sheer. Fit is loose with a little swing in the back. Also a little cropped. Embroidery is well done. Pretty medium blue color as appears on my monitor.

Eyelet Peekaboo Top - TTS although you could size down if you wanted a slimmer fit. I love the loose fit and think it adds to the cool feeling of this cotton top. Slightly sheer, but no need to wear anything under it. Love the embroidery on the sleeves and the pretty eyelet detail along the neckline. I think this could be a great top for someone who's not comfortable wearing off-the-shoulder tops but would like a somewhat similar look.

Love all of these tops and I am keeping all three.

  6. This article spells out some specifics on that J.Crew news I posted a few weeks ago, re) a bit of relief on those pending loans that were due next year:

    https://fashionista.com/2017/06/j-crew-exchange-offer-cash

Here is a snippet in case you don't have time to click the link:

'On Monday, J.Crew announced in a release that it's nearly completed an exchange offer that will result in a (much-needed) infusion of a lot of cash: $566.5 million, to be precise. The Benjamins come courtesy of an exchange offer with bondholders, launched earlier this month, through in payment-in-kind (PIK) notes, due May 2019. And the bondholders have bitten: 93.6 percent of the outstanding notes, or roughly $530.5 million of the agreed-upon $566.5 million, have already been exchanged. The remaining notes must be exchanged by July 10 for the deal to go through, and it appears likely that they will.'

Seems that they are still planning to close a few more stores and this particular article mentions something about 'wholesale'.

  8. Received the White Denim Frayed Hem Dress. I ordered one size down per reviews. It skimmed my body nicely but the armholes were still too large and stuck out funny unless I had my arms at my sides. It is a sturdy denim and not see through at all. Sad this didn't work out as it is an easy throw and go dress. Also received the Lily Raffia flats in my regular size and a half size up. I need to try these on again for a bit more time to see which I am keeping. I think my regular size will be best. The half size up already is a bit loose and if they stretch at all will be too big. I know I will get plenty of wear out of these. Waiting for the Chambray jumpsuit I scored on pop back and hoping it fits and is cute. I am not a jumpsuit person but dig this one for some reason and the price was right,

  9. I ordered the garment dyed pocket tee dress in dark mauve and sized up (I took my Madewell tee size) so that it was loose rather than skimming. I like it although it feels thin. I got it 25% off and will monitor to see if it goes in sale further.

  10. I typed preorder on the website and guess what appeared? Another one-shoulder top. There are 2 Paravel Grand Tour duffel bags, if anyone is interested.

    1. Wow! the bag is already sold out.

    2. They've been on the website for at least a week I think. The duffel selling out is still strange though. I always feel while duffels look cool, only larger men can really handle carrying a full luggage sized duffels without horrible shoulder pain.
