J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Has anyone tried on the drape knot dress in linen G4448? Was wondering about shape and sizing?
    Thanks

    1. I tried it on and it wasn't very flattering on me. It might look better in a petite though. I found the upper knot portion to not look very neat. Like it was meant for someone bustier than your average size 4.

  2. Today I'm wearing the Drake's giraffe print midi skirt with a navy linen perfect shirt and the adorable navy pom pom flats from a previous season (finally scored a pair on eBay). For accessories, I have the cognac leather cuff on to match a cognac leather belt.

The skirt length feels a little dowdy on me (I'm 5'4"), but I'm making it work. I wish it had come in petite, but I may just have it shortened. Love the pockets, and I'm glad it's cotton, instead of the weird poly we've seen in some of the longer skirts recently.

Question for anyone who's already been wearing this skirt-- have you attempted to machine wash it? Or hand wash it? It seems crazy to dry clean a cotton skirt.

I grabbed a popback of the skirt in my size when it was 50% off $99 plus free shipping. So long as I can come up with a non dry-clean route for laundering it, I'd comfortably recommend it for $50.

    1. I have cold water washed the bell sleeve giraffe shirt and hung up to dry - no issues with the shirt after washing.

    6. @Ema, I tried it today in a 0 (the smaller of my skirt sizes) and that was the right size. It came down a couple of inches past my knees @ 5'7" and I was wondering about a petite as it seemed a bit long. I found it to be quite full at the bottom/flare out. I liked it but wished it was a little less full. Hth

  4. I purchased the Lottie suede sandals in vivid waterfall in store during my trip to Florida last week. Normally I'm a sz 9 in Jcrew shoes but they were a bit too loose on my foot so I ended up with the 8.5. The blue is lovely and I'm hoping they are comfortable but I haven't had a chance to wear them yet. The store let me use my teacher discount on the sale item which was surprising as I'm never able to stack it in Canada.
I was hoping to buy more in store while there but the selection wasn't much better than here and my size wasn't available in some items.

  5. Tried the Blooming Floral Brooch, item #H0004 in bright papaya (the only color option).

Very pretty, but arrived with the two large flowers on top flattened out, the petals kind of folded to the right and left. Because they are made from materials that have a paper-like consistency (the materials list online suggests they are silk, but, if so, not super soft), they cannot be fluffed up or reconstituted to look the way the brooch looks online.

This may be due to shipping--the item arrived in a Ziploc bag within one of the J.Crew brown paper envelopes, not exactly a lot of protection for an item like this. Given the price, I think J.Crew can do better with the quality of the item and/or the shipping.

  6. ea134, that is disappointing. Agree there should be better shipping for something like that, esp at that price.

    1. Hi Sarah. Yes, I was really disappointed. I should add that I posted a version of this review on the J.Crew website, and they got in touch with me and offered to send me a new one that had been carefully checked and packaged prior to leaving the warehouse. The email arrived within two hours of my review posting, and it was very cordial (great customer service!), but it didn't seem worth it, not, at least, at the current price. (And because my review focused on shipping as a possible source of the problems, they deleted the review from the site.)

  7. Does anyone know how the A-line dress with tie fits? The site says it's a "best seller" but there are no reviews. I'm 5'10" and generally between a 2 and a 4...it's hard to know which size would work in this case and since it's online only, I can't try on in-store.

  8. My reviews from yesterday's delivery.

-Thomas Mason Tie-Waist Stripe Dress (G3279): ordered a 2 and a 4 to try. Really didn't need to open size 4, since the 2 fits. Stripe colors of red, white, and blue. The sleeves are bracelet length on me. Collarless. Shoulders fit me. The length of the dress hit below my knees, since I'm 4'11. It's not sheer at all. The construction and quality is good, expected from Thomas Mason. I wasn't thrilled of the stripes. It's a little loud for me, and I love stripes. Maybe if the stripes were skinny, and two colors instead of three, I would've loved it. Back it goes.

-Collection Safari Jacket (G5006): Ordered a 2. Body fits, but could've ordered a 0, to compare. There are ties inside the jacket to cinch the waist. It's lined in stripe light blue and white. Quality-construction and material is nice, expected from a collection piece. What I didn't like are the slightly drop shoulders. It looked boxy and had a lot of room around the shoulders, upper arm pits, and upper arms. Like I said, a size 0 would probably eliminate that problem I had w/ the shoulders, and sleeves. Back it goes.

-Vintage Cotton Tank Top (C4736): SHEER. Back it goes.
-Beaded Ball Earrings in Pacific Blue (G7493): Style inspiration when Kate Bosworth who I follow on IG, wore a similar style to the one J.Crew made, I had to wishlist these. I don't have an outfit in mind to pair the earrings with, but I like it enough to keep!

  9. Received my Madewell Mariel Buckle sandals in desert camel. Admired them on Ina and Styled by Maca and appreciated reviews here and on IG by Cate and Ema (crazy about JCrew).
I wanted to replace a pair of Sam Edelman Dion studded sandals which I absolutely love, but are starting to lose their comfort quotient after several years of wear. Although these are a simpler style and the camel is a little lighter than the saddle color of the Sam Edelman they seem well padded and comfortable, well made and a great neutral, versatile shoe.
I was fortunate to get them at a fair sale price and used my Madewell Muse discount along with a GC I've been waiting to use. Shipping was super fast.
JCrew should take note. Ordered late on Sunday. received Weds with free shipping.

  10. Got this beauty today.

    https://www.jcrew.com/ca/p/mens_category/sweaters/cotton/cotton-cable-cardigan-sweater/G4478

This sweater is so beautiful in person as well as online. Soft chunky cotton in a cable knit in such a great blue. 'crew calls it heather lake, I call it perfection.

Tough to find as it's sold out, but they tracked one down for me and damn it's nice. Perfect for cool evenings and it will move well into fall too.

    3. Years ago, I got two cotton cardigans that I wore to death, I loved them so much.
One had a thick, ribbed knit and a collar that could be popped up at the back of the neck. So warm and slimming because of the rib.
The other was just a nice thick cotton knit.

I've been sorry I didn't buy two of each of these. I wore them until they were falling apart, which took a good long time.

  11. Picked up,orders in store and received a home delivery.
Collection embellished bell sleeve stripe top: Fit is tts & sequins/embellishment is really pretty. Matches tie waist stripe skirt perfectly & stripe culottes from last year. Looks great with pink suede block heel sandals from spring.

Thomas Mason stripe apron dress; This dress is a winner. Fit is tts for me; took my usual TM size. Back is sexy without being over the top. You can wear a strapless half bra with sticky sides. The style will also allow you to go without one. I tried it on without a bra & it won't be an issue (C cup). Price is a bargain and not final sale.

Tall pull on cargo pant in olive: Fit is tts and cotton is so comfy. Very nice travel or leisure pant. Packed for trip to CA.

Off shoulder ruffle bodysuit in red: Was recommended by manager so decided to order after it hit sale. This is a trend item and I really like it. Fit is tts & it's nicely done for such a casual piece. Red color is beautiful and it stays off the shoulder. Works well with denim.

Festive plaid scallop heels from holiday: Very late to the party on these, but decided to order after a popback. Fit is tts and I really like the scallop suede detail. Still deciding.

    1. I saw the Festive Plaid shoes on popback and was also tempted! For how much I'd wear them that's about the max price I'd pay.
