"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

Blog post by Garance Dore, that most of us ladies can relate to.

    1. Thanks for this! I saw this post referenced somewhere else last night in passing and then I couldn't find it again to actually go back and read it. I just love heels, but don't have the lifestyle to wear them, so mostly they just sit in my closet. I never pay a lot for them, and it makes me happy to have them, so it's sort of like a stamp collection, nice to look at and occasionally admire with friends! But, I did take a big step last week and bought a pair of Birk knock-offs with gold metallic and some rhinestones for when I want to sparkle a bit but need to be practical. I'll probably get a lot of use out of them, but never the satisfaction I get when wearing a pair of killer heels.

    2. Shopgrrrl, I have gold and silver Birks and I wear both pairs all summer!

    3. I used to own 4inch stilettos from Stella McCartney and Louboutin booties. I sold it at poshmark. No point in keeping it. Sorta had that Carrie Bradshaw's shopping mentality. Spend spend spend without thinking about cost per wear and my debt. So those days are gone. Now it's all about shopping smarter.

  2. Not a vent.

Sales alert - Drake giraffe skirt in the final sale section at an additional 50% off the discounted price. As at 6 AM they appeared to have more 10 items of each of the size 0, 2, 4 and 8. Discounted price in Canada is $65 Cdn (original price was $208 Cdn) so I can only imagine what a great deal it is in the US.

    1. Skirt doesn't show in search anymore - wonder if it sold out this AM?

  3. Still not a vent.
Further on the Drake giraffe skirt (and still not a vent). Lots of people said to size down because of the elastic waist band. I usually wear size 0 pencil skirt so I tried the size 00 and size 0 giraffe skirt. Even with an elastic waist band, I was really uncomfortable in the 00, so for me, it was best to stick with my regular size. But I have a straight up and down shape. So if you have an hour glass shape, maybe sizing down would work, but definitely not a good idea for me.

  4. Not a vent but I was just scrolling through the sale section and noticed the tie waist cotton shorts and liberty shorts are marked down. So, if you ordered either of those yesterday with the 40% off you should be able to get a pretty good price adjustment.

  5. Would have been great to see this stuff yesterday with the better discount and free shipping. Predictable.

  6. Why is the lace up shirt dress only on sale in the black and white. I want the navy! Go figure. Still placed an order of some random pop backs. Got the plaid Pom Pom flats and Sadie flats in red and trying the heavy weight peacoat in the dark mauve. Also threw in a suiting tank for $15 and the carnation earrings for free shipping. First time I placed a retail order in a few weeks.

    1. grr, I thought the same thing Jess! I haven't worn mine yet but it's such a good sale on the other colors. A lot of sale popbacks this morning though...I picked up the crystal waterfall necklace which I've regretted missing out on for months.

    2. Anne- if they were any other colors than black or white I would have purchased. I am so pale that black or white looks harsh against my skin tone. We also don't have a super long summer here in PA so trying not to buy many summer items that won't get worn. I actually have done pretty well in that respect. No shorts or casual tees and tanks have been purchased. I have plenty to get me through. No sandals or flip flops either. I have done a pretty good job but the fall rollouts will be my weakness.

  7. No venting here. The sandals I ordered yesterday went on sale today and received a price adjustment. Very nice customer service!

  8. I was looking at a bunch of New Balance pieces yesterday and had trouble finding pieces in stock to match - many tanks were sold out. Today, now that the sale is over, there is a full run of sizes in lots of pieces I wanted. I find that so deceptive.

    1. Call CS and see if they will honor the discount for you. They need the sales!

    2. Since stores are 40% off, you might try ordering through your local B&M. I've also asked CS to match instore discount & they've obliged.

  9. I've been hanging on to a few things and need to make a return. Since we are moving I'm trying to be good about what I keep.
Decided to return the elephant set. Tried on the shorts again and since I haven't done any self tanning (too busy painting, etc) the color looks horrible. (Note to self, self tan!)

    1. Also posted some reviews on the review page. The white sailor pants and black Rhodes pants in linen are keepers. Both will be great all summer.

  10. I just left my local store. I had to make some returns and pick up a couple of orders. They had an extra 40% off sale and it was quite full.

  12. Uptown NYC collection store - coming down with pineapples. Here a pineapple, there a pineapple, everywhere.... I envision a deranged Project Runway contestant with a whole bolt of unsold print fabric to use up in a hurry.

Also there were many things with waist ties, my objection to those is that the wearer does not look sleek and after an hour or so has to fiddle with her clothing in front of people, so is ineligible for the Edith Wharton deportment prize.

    1. I saw a pineapple soap dispenser for sale at a grocery store last week and that was it for me. I like pineapples, mainly in pina coladas, but it's unbelievably ubiquitous right now and I can't wait for the trend to be over.

    2. It was over for me when I saw a pilled-up woolen sweater with a pineapple motif at Marshalls roughly two months ago.

    3. I wore pants with a waist tie last Saturday night and it stayed tied all night and didn't give me any problems. A couple waist tie things in my wardrobe is fine...I have a small waist...but I don't want all my clothes to have a waist tie. My objection is when they get on a trend, boy do they get on it!!!
