Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. 50% sale on the website this AM. I tried 2 skirts - a gray super 120s pencil and the gingham ball skirt was down to $50... neither one final sale so thought I could give that ball skirt a go just for the fun try-on at least. Has anyone tried it on and it it super poofy? I wonder if it would look weird hemmed up to lower mid-calf..

    1. I have the ball skirt; it's not super poofy. You can have it shortened, but there's tulle and a cotton lining underneath.

    2. Mygoddy, where have you worn the skirt? Special events? Just around town? I'm trying to decide if I should keep it. Thanks!

    3. Canada...is still 40% .thanks J Crew. Its our birthdaY Too!
      Not even free shipping.

    5. @Lisa Thompson, haven't worn it yet, but all the options you've identified would work. Willl probably wear to church on Sunday. It's a versatile skirt that will work for several occasions.

  2. Extra 50% sucked me in today. I might need a intervention!

  3. Does anyone know if Madewell is doing extra % off sale in store? Current promo is going on until the 5th, I can't believe they have nothing better for 4th of July!

    1. I'm wondering too... They didn't do anything extra online for Memorial Day either, which I thought was odd.

I did buy the Palm Tree Leather Pouch earlier this week. Shipping was amazing, I ordered it in the afternoon, received it the next day - for free! The pouch itself is well made and definitely worth it for under $25. Madewell's leather goods rarely disappoint, IMHO.

    2. I heard from a store employee that there is a "major sale" coming up soon. maybe it starts after july 4? I am guessing maybe percentage off sale online/in store or maybe a percentage off the whole website? I would be OK with either. I have some stuff in my wishlist that I would love to get at any kind of discount!

    3. oh, and I'm sorry, I didn't answer your question. when I was in-store earlier this week and yesterday, there was 50% off sale jewelry. other sale items did not have a percentage off.

    4. Thank you Roxana! A SA also told me last week that there would be a major sale for 4th of July (because they are going to receive pre-Fall), that's why I was a bit disappointed in the lack of (better) promos. I have a few things on my wish list but I am leaving for Italy in exactly a week (which means that at this point I will probably need to buy in store anyway).

      Delete
    5. the SA told me about the upcoming sale on wednesday, when the shoes promo for July 4 was already in place, so I think you are right in that maybe it is next weekend? I could see it maybe being 40% off sale, or maybe 30% off an order of $200 or more? those are both promos they've done before, albeit infrequently, and I would certainly consider either a "major" sale now given that we haven't had any similar promos in a while. fingers crossed!

  5. This is OT but I am wondering if any JCAs have tried Stitch Fix. Seems like there are new wardrobe subscription services popping up and I have a few friends who are trying them. Not sure it's for me but I'm intrigued by the idea - and at the moment I'm a little bored w the Crew.

    1. I did it for a few months after receiving it as a gift and thought it was fun at first but after a while I was underwhelmed. Some of the items can be pricy and it's a lot of their own proprietary brands. I felt I was keeping things for the sake of justifying the $20 fee and then barely wore them. Personally, I felt that I would be able to find similar options and in the end determined that I'm probably not their target market. I know a lot of people who do it and love it, but it personally wasn't for me.

On a slightly different note, I have been doing Rent the Runway unlimited for work / weekend clothes and that I have really liked. But you are just renting the clothes vs. buying them with stitch fix (you have the option to buy but they're a lot more $$).

      Delete
    2. Thanks, Anne. I also have friends who are crazy about Stitch Fix but I'm not sure it's right for me.

I've never tried Rent the Runway but I have seen your awesome outfits on
your blog and I'm intrigued. I'm going to check it out - the idea of paring down, wearing higher-quality items and not overbuying for one
wear/occasion definitely fits what I'm trying to do w my closet these days.

  7. 50% off and nothing I want! I ordered a few random pop backs last week but really I don't need any more summer items. Banana Republic has gotten my money this week. I lost about ten pounds and all my pants without belt loops are just too big right now so I ordered a few cute pairs that were 50% off plus an additional 10% off with a BR card. J Crew pants never seem to fit me quite right and after seeing some BR pants on Anne (FabLife) I decided to see what they had to offer. Hoping they work out!

    1. JessF - congrats on the weight loss! I hope they work out for you :) They had such a good deal with the sale...I snagged the green Avery pants. As you might have guessed, BR is my go to for pants!

    2. Agree re: nothing I want at the Crew. Several other retailers and brands got a bunch of my money between yesterday and today. I got 2 silk dresses from the BR / Piece&Co. collab, and since JC doesn't have enough work-appropriate pieces this season (I don't wear gingham. eyelet and/or fruit print sundresses or flare skirts to work, much less OTS/cold shoulder tops), I ordered several sheath dresses by Elie Tahari from sales at Bloomingdale's and Saks Off Fifth. Also got a cute embellished Elie Tahari sweater which is reminiscent of JC Collection pieces when they were doing the more feminine stuff. Plus got some casual maxi dresses in floral print styles I prefer by Tommy Bahama and some jersey dresses by Velvet from Rue La La, and finally some work-appropriate silk tops by Theory and Rebecca Taylor from Nordstrom Rack online. Whew! I'm sure some of this stuff will get returned but I have high hopes that this will fill all the needs in my summer wardrobe.

Are you listening JC? I have money to spend and this is the type of stuff I want to buy, but you are not providing it.

    3. Won't be going, but I ordered the new safari jacket to try after considering it for a few weeks. It hasn't gone on sale, but the window to wear it is shortening. I couldn't find anything I wanted or needed in Sale. Last week I received the suede leggings in black and I quite like them.

    4. Oh Sarah, I can't wait to hear your review of the safari jacket. It's the only new piece I had my eye on!

    5. Hi Liz, JSR reviewed it (June 21 post, in case you want to reference). She found too much room in the shoulders and sent it back. I like a fitted look too, so I'm hoping I can work with it. Some J Crew jackets are cut beautifully but then restrict movement. I'll follow up!

  8. I also got sucked in by the 50%. Wish I had saved my 15% coupons! Reordered the linen pants in a smaller size to compare, plus the navy long sleeve swimsuit for $20, coral fan crystal necklace and the white ruffle-front top. Will also email for a few price adjustments on a few other things I ordered earlier this week, including the striped maxi dress.

  9. Fabulous finds on the website! I used my coupon on Wednesday and my items will arrive today!!! What an incredible turnaround. I called early this morning and they did a price adjustment to reflect the 50% off plus the 15% wow!!!

  10. 11. Any factory cardholder promo codes or extra % off codes if you spend $100 out there? Whenever I order there always seems to be a promo code flyer included in my package offering a discount on a future order. The last one I had expired on 6/26 so curious if anyone received one recently. There are a few new arrivals I like and the prices are good with the 50% off but cheaper is always better.

  12. I've already placed 2 orders and 1 Kate spade order (40% off sale items - amazing deals over there). Now 75% of my j crew order was for my daughter but I couldn't resist adding on an emerald tippi, navy lace up flats since I love my pink ones so much, and a striped maxi. My daughter got 2 skirts, 3 dresses, and 3 tops.

  13. This is completely OT so I apologize but I am stalking something at Anthro and I was wondering if someone more familiar than me with Anthro can chime in on possibility of popbacks and time of the day/day of the week when they are most likely to happen. Is there any pattern at all or it's just a random stroke of luck to be there at the right time? TIA!

    1. I am no help, except: 1) is it on your wishlist (I find that makes it easier to spot pop backs); and 2) I'm so curious what it is (I've been stalking a sold out Black Halo dress and I never see it).

  15. I went this evening to pick up my orange/pink A-line dress that I ordered online. Noticed that many items are 30% off, so I walked around. Nothing interesting at all. Oh, I had to ask for a bag and they charged me 7 cents for it. Yes, Chicago now has a bag tax but seriously? I just spent over $100. You can't just give me a bag? Nordstrom doesn't charge. Even the local bookstore doesn't charge. No wonder they were empty!

    1. I was charged the 7 cent Chicago bag tax @ Nordstrom last week. I usually have a nylon reusable bag in my purse but forgot it and I had to have the sandals! 😉

      Delete
    2. That isn't a choice by the retailer. Shopping bag taxes are intended to decrease disposable bag use. If a retailer effectively ate that tax it would defeat the purpose. This is about the environment, not how much money you spend.

Also, a good chunk of European countries have been doing this for years. It's often even worse, because they'll only sell you some type of reusable bag, so it's significantly more expensive than 7 cents.

  17. I should really take a pic for IG for that weekend away hashtag thing crew is doing, but last minute my daughter and I went to CO for a big softball tournament.
I only packed a carryon for a week and most of what I packed is J.crew aside from lightweight workout/loungewear. the garden shorts in linen from last spring have been worn multiple times. The do wrinkle but I found if you dampen the linen and pull the wrinkles down they dry perfectly in a short amount of time. downtown field jacket is a great traveling jacket. The garment dyed shirt (very lightweight with the buttons on the side in burnished moss is a perfect layer to either avoid hot sun or a cool breeze. I did overpack a few shirts but rolled them and they took up minimal space. Mostly Ive been wearing the Madewell Sol Sana striped slides from last summer but packed a few other options because I wasn't sure how much walking we'd need to do.

  18. There were very few items that interested me online, and as I'm trying to decrease my carbon footprint, I've been ordering less through the web for purposes of trying things on. Stopped by a store today and found a few great popbacks as well as newer sale items! Spotted a j crewxnet-a-porter top and collection tie-front satin shorts! I'm thinking that after the closing of the Lynchburg clearance store, they may've started distributing some older items to their diminishing brick and mortar stores (One of my favorite J Crew locations closed last week, to my absolute surprise.)

I also thought I would really like the linen flutter-sleeve tees which I almost ordered online, but I'm really glad I didn't because the xxs was a little ill-fitting and while the chest in the xs was better, it was just too long and baggy. To my surprise, I really liked the navy tiered ruffle skirt! They looked really weird and unflattering online, but I found a 0P and it feels fun and flirty! and for only $27! There was also a smocked off-the-shoulder gingham beach dress, which I never looked at twice in-store or online. My mom, who was with me, convinced me to try it on and I can't stop thinking about! I truly felt like a princess and it was great for someone like me with a small frame. I normally wear a 00P in dresses, but for this one the XS is perfect. It runs a little small.

One thing that was a little off-putting to me about my experience was the attitude of one of the SAs. She made it clear to us that she has a quota to meet and kept bringing unsolicited items of clothing to my fitting room. I'm wondering if the remaining brick and mortar stores are pushing sales in order to prevent their stores from closing....

    1. Yeah, I was in a Victoria's Secret a couple weeks ago and a sales associate brought me additional bras to try on without even asking. It was super weird. I shop there a lot and that has never happened to me. It hasn't happened since, but I haven't been back to that particular store.

      Delete
    2. I'd actually love if we moved to a service center style format. You order online and the items, with other peoples items, are shipped to the store. You try things on in store and anything you don't want remains in store. I feel like it would support a larger range of sizes to be served, without over carrying certain sizes and the only items that will be in store will be things ordered by other customers in the area. The stock the store did carry would be more reflective of the area. You know, so they could just stop carrying suede shoes in Portland, because no one here has time for that.

    3. Years ago I had a teen job at a retailer where we were measured by "units per sale". When they went into the dressing room I would bring them items that were similar or would coordinate with what they were trying on as well as additional sizes. They seemed to like it and bought much of what I brought. Long time ago but I loved doing it; it made me feel like a stylist.

  19. The Jcrew website is flipping out in the middle of the day time :/. Upside is I got customer service to honor 50% off a full price item because the website had it listed as such.

Who are their tech people? I'm pretty sure 15 year old me could do a better job.

  20. I need your opinion JCAs: I ordered the Ruffle wrap skirt in cotton poplin on pop-back in the khaki color. Was pleased that i was able to have the price adjusted since it went on sale last Wednesday.

Minor deets that need fixing: Moving the buttons to accommodate my waist (I ordered size 2); and if I were to size up, the skirt would swallow me.
The length on me at 4'11 is ok...falls an inch 1/2 above my ankles..

I ordered this skirt to dress out of my comfort zone. But the more I look at it and touch the fabric, the more i see cotton bed spread, and I own a fitted sheet in khaki color, hahaha! (Don't mean to offend those who own the skirt). I know, I know, fabric is fabric, we all own something in our closet that is also used for something else.
I question the longevity of the skirt. How often would I wear it? Will the wrinkles bother me? Am I better off spending money on something safe, even if the skirt only cost me around $55+, (I'm being mindful w/ my spending). Torn.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Send it back. if your out of your comfort zone ...you will wear it once ...feel uncomfortable the whole time. then it will sit in your
closet... I have a few of these. $55 is still better spent on a item you love and will wear to death. just my opinion.

      Delete
    2. Agree on sending it back. That fabric will also wrinkle really easily and not hold up nicely during the day. I was not a fan of that style, seemed very apron-ish to me.

      Delete
    3. Have you tried it with other items in your closet? How well does it pair? This might help you to make a decision about whether this skirt is the right choice for trying something out of your comfort zone. If you're going to wear it, it's a great buy. Otherwise, it's money wasted. I have a donation pile full of "good buys." Let us know what you decide.

    4. Thanks, ladies. I appreciate your feedback. I currently don't have any tops to pair the skirt with. I'm leaning towards returning it. :)

  22. Has anyone tried/reviewed the Italian linen-blend ribbed crewneck sweater
item G5155? I love the Marled Rose colour and would love to hear more about the feel of the fabric and the fit (only 3 reviews, and one says it's huge in the back only?).

    Replies
    1. Shopgrrrl, I'd been eyeing this item as well, but wondered about the size as well, based on reviews. Last week, my store had a return in the sale section for this sweater in this color so I was able to try it. I usually prefer my Tippis in XS (no layering) and an S in Jackie cardis (36B chest) for a comfortable fit.

My store had the Linen blend sweater in a Medium and based on that I think I would take an S in this sweater, so that it could be more fitted, yet not too snug. I didn't find there to be extra fabric in the back, nor did I find the sweater to run too short. The fabric felt thin (good for a/c spaces as one review mentioned) and textured, due to the linen. The Marled Rose seems accurately depicted as shown on screen.

I'm looking for a sweater that will replace an old Gap long-sleeved, light sweater that I like to take when I travel. That's what I wanted for the linen sweater, but the sleeves are bracelet length and I prefer a longer sleeve.

Hope the info helps and that someone else orders it with the 50% sale so we get more definitive info. :-)

    2. I didn't find it huge in the back so I was surprised by that review as well. It seems like a closet staple. I ordered in one color and subsequently ordered another.

    4. I ordered this sweater in 2 colors - marled pink & aquamarine in XS, my usual sweater size and found them to be true to size and definitely not too short, I'm 5'4" but have a long torso. I found the aquamarine to be true to the color on my screen, but the pink was not - it was warmer toned and much brighter, almost like a fluorescent pink. I didn't like it on me at all. It's a lightweight sweater, but It's for summer, so I expected that and I didn't find it sheer.
