"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. My biggest beef is the lack of functionality in the website. Everyone else seems to manage their online presence quite effectively, so what's up with 'crew?

    1. Over lunch yesterday the website was completely down. That can't be good for business. The functionality on my iPad has been strange the past few weeks as well. They should be upgrading not downgrading.

    2. past 2 weeks...off and on problems. I just wonder each day if its going to be working...

    3. a month ago I had a talk....me talking and ranting a little and the customer service person saying nothing....because the site was so messed up. I either couldn't checkout or I could add or remove items to the cart or both. I have NO problems with any other shopping site. Just another one of the things that will bring them down. And there is no excuse for it!

  2. Went to store last night was half off...nothing to buy. poor quality diver and palm tree sweaters...there were lines in the fabric that look like runs but apparently this was how they were sewn...and way too many ruffled off shoulder tops on the 50 off racks...nothing to buy at all

    1. I wanted to love the diver print sweater because I am just craving cute prints but I tried it on and totally agree - appalling quality level.

    2. Yah....I passed on them too. Sale and 50% off still seemed too expensive for a sweater I felt would look ratty within a couple of wearings.

  3. Not a vent, but more of a lament - just read another review for the Italy destination tee ('Andiamo') and someone pointed out that there are actually TWO typos on it! Not only is 'Lazio' misspelled, but more alarmingly, 'Mediterranean' is apparently also misspelled! What the...?! In this day and age of auto-correct, you'd think there might have been some warning at some point. Oh, J.Crew! (*shakes head)

    1. TM93, yes I saw that this morning too. That's pretty bad! I also saw that it is already marked down (not surprising).

    2. I saw a woman wearing the Italy tee when I was in Las Vegas. First thing I thought was "that's the tee with the misspelled word!" Ha!

    3. Wow...not one typo but two. well it took everyone awhile to notice..so hopefully no one gets fired over this

    5. This is so sad because its an otherwise great shirt!

    6. @LilyBart, agree, it's the only Destination tee I've ever been interested in! I have friends in Rome, of all places, that I hope to visit next year and had envisioned wearing it there. Not anymore! They would spot the Lazio bit right away!

    7. henceforth to be known as the Desperation Tee...

    8. TM93: If it'd just been Lazio it could have been a funny joke, but with Mediterranean also misspelled too... its embarrassing! What the heck happened?

      Delete
    9. Yeah, I could never wear that shirt, especially traveling to Italy or Europe. I would be embarrassed.

    10. Ugh I was maybe going to get this on sale even with the typo, but the Mediterranean misspelling is too embarrassing! It also bothers me they didn't put all the regions in Italian..but I guess that's minor given they can't even get an English spelling right *sigh*. They should just spare everyone and chuck out/recycle/donate the batch.

    11. I honestly have no idea how these errors could have made it through design, manufacture, and distribution w the quality control technology employed by nearly every garment manufacturer today at every step in the process. It's mind- boggling, really.

    12. Mysteriously, I cannot see the reviews on my mobile device. Reviews on all other items show up.

    13. Proves Americans can't spell. They can't in English...why the heck are they trying in other languages???

  4. Finally received my order containing the pineapple tee. I ordered two sizes because who knows what size to get anymore. The XS is child sized. Seriously, it is at least 4 inches too short for a normal sized adult. The size S did not get any additional length, it is just WIDER. Both will be returned even though I love the graphic and the color. I find that I'm returning more than I'm keeping due to odd fit issues!

    1. I actually love my pineapple tee and have worn it many times. I agree it runs small for J.Crew. I bought XS which is my normal size, though I have to get XXS in many J Crew tops these days. Anyway, I love mine but I'm also petite so maybe that is the difference.

    2. bythelake, it really pains me to have to return the pineapple tee as I do love it. However, I'm 5'7 and it really looks like a crop top on me. So glad it is working out for others. The subtle sequins and the color really drew me in but the fit doesn't work.

    1. Hi LilyBart - I wondered the same. Probably part of their strategy to pare down the number of catalogs. January's been gone for a few years, now July. Bummer!

      Delete
    2. Historically July catalog has always been thin, so they probably stopped printing that month all together.

      Delete
    3. My store told me there would be no July guide and implied they didn't know if they would ever see any guides again.

    4. A store in Toronto (Canada) said they will be online only for Canada from now on. I hope we can actually see them online not just pics on Pinterest. I'm sad as I love getting a paper copy.

    5. Remember years ago when they sent them in every package from the warehouse? I remember getting so many copies in one month. :) def wasteful back then but sad how things have changed financially for them.

  8. Tried on a few tops at JCrew yesterday and I couldn't with the cut. Who are they making these shirt for, line backers? I personally like a slightly cropped, drapey shirt. I think it'a cute on my petite frame. But these shirts that are super wide through the chest and shoulders...what are you doing Crew. Now that I checked out the shirts online, I see they don't even look good on the models.

  9. I finally got an online order the other day and realize what is happening after I talked to a SA. Some shoes were in a box with no label on the outside and when I looked at them the toe box was "broken" in where someone had obviously tried them on. I got a blazer with the tags removed and the security tag cut. So here is the scoop. Jcrew is getting items returned and is repackaging them, worn or not, and RESELLING them online. So watch carefully when you receive your items in on an online order. They may not be the typical quality of JCrew. These items used to be sold off via warehouse sales or through their now defunct clearance store but the SA said Jcrew thought they could be more efficient and profitable if they sold them back through the online channels. Please Jcrew check your merchandise first!!! I also was surprised at the way the shoe boxes were just thrown into the shipping box, no interior packing etc. This was a far cry from the Tory Burch box I received the same day with such incredible packaging (for any of you that know how Tory Burch ships) that I was sure I didn't need to even check what was inside because it was so pristinely packaged. I will say on Jcrew's behalf my packages do arrive quickly and so far nothing at all has been incorrect and I haven't returned anything:)

    1. I think a lot of retailers are doing this. I received a pair of suede ballet flats from Talbots that were completely covered in cat hair. When I returned them (wrong size) the sales lady said "that's disgusting"...ha.

    2. it's nothing new - a few years ago i had to return a pair of shoes to JC became they had arrived with someone's arch supports in them.

    3. Interesting. I always thought that that is what "popbacks" were, returned items being resold. No excuse for dirty or damaged items. I got a paperbag tie waist skirt recently on a popback. It was in a sealed plastic bag, original creases, but no tie/sash. I assumed it was a repackaged return, that they didn't realize there was no sash returned.

  10. Jackie Brown, wow. I received a hand a today with perfect packaging from J Crew. I did once receive a dress from them, with no tags at all, which was kind of rumpled. Doubly disappointing that time as I had cancelled that order, but CS instead cancelled a different one (which I wanted). I had to pay the shipping but never got around to telling them about it.

  11. I spoke too soon sadly- two items I received today were incorrect. One was a size different from what I ordered and the other was a completely different item than I ordered. All in one box. Well hopefully that is it for the year!!!

  12. jcrewismyfavstore posted some brookfield place new arrivals on her IG and it looks like we're getting more zoo animals for fall. And an exact replica of the sequin skirt they put out for holiday '16 but in bronze instead of silver.
