"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. No vent. Sale is extra 50% off in stores. Called CS to match promo on order I made earlier in the day. Everything (except 1 waffle tank) has already shipped, so super fast. Happy to see Collection bonded shawl popover popback in Cabernet. It's on sale & I've wanted to try. Hope it works since I love the garment dyed cotton crepe popover sweater in navy. Great layering piece that I've worn a bunch.

    1. My store wasn't 50% off sale on Tuesday, which store was? I actually DID place an order Tuesday so if sale is 50% off in store I'll contact CS for an adjustment! (I've actually placed several gift orders over the past few days as well.)

    3. So if you place an on line order and call CS they will match the in store discount? I never tried this since it seems the in store discount varies from store to store. It just seems they would save themselves the trouble if promos were consistent.

    4. @SUZ I was at Short Hills yest...and it was all 50% off!! They were hiding the Liberty shirts too and pompom sweaters and others on the side of the store, not in the reg. clearance section too!! I bought so much goodies that I had wanted and was either too much retail or sold out!!

    5. And you're right, all the customer sales assoc. are super nice :)

    6. Really, I was there and didn't realize it was 50% off!!!

    7. @mygoddy and @j thank you for pointing this out! I called CS and got price adjustments on 5 orders (gulp) placed within the past few days. (I ordered several gifts to have on hand over the holidays.)

    8. This is amazing...I just got a nice credit and ordered a coat I've had on my wishlist for months, which coincidentally popped back in my size this afternoon. Hoping it ships.

    9. Yay, my store was 50% off! I haven't seen that since May. I grabbed a Tippi, a pair of Sammies and a pair of Teddies and was able to use my bounce back card to get an additional $20 off.

    10. HTH!! Just means we have more $ to spend with JC!

    11. @Mygoddy, thanks so much for mentioning that - I was able to get a PA on a scarf and belt that I bought on Monday, and I also bought a few other items. Woot woot!

  2. Why is it so hard to use my $25 off any purchase card? Well it is because it is a code not a gift card, so you can't combine it with the 40% off if you use it online. So essentially you have to pay twice as much for an item to use it. This makes no sense. I can use it in the store, but my store doesn't have anything but boring basics and picked over sale stuff. I couldn't find anything. I hate to just throw this away, but J.Crew doesn't make it easy to use.
On a brighter note I was happy a few things went on sale yesterday, such as the velvet cami.

    1. Bythelake, after you place an online order you can call or email and they will apply the $25 promo. In my experience anyway. Good luck!

    2. Yes, I went through the same thing last week.

    3. I called Cs and they said they could not combine promos

    4. Thanks for the tips though, maybe I'll try calling again.

    5. You may have already, but you could mention to CS you would be able to use it instore, but can't find anything in store you'd like. That might help.

    6. Thanks for the advice. I tried calling again and they were able to issue a $25 credit on my order from yesterday. Phone call = velvet cami for $14. Thanks to the JC SA who was able to easily remedy this.

  3. I called this morning to get a price adjustment on the plaid pom pom sadies I bought last week that went on sale today. The lady said she could not make the adjustment because they are now sold out online and she couldn't see where they went on sale. What????? I hung up and called back, got another person and they gladly helped me. I do know that the CS people in San Antonio seem to be much nicer than the ones in Lynchburg sometimes. She knew immediately that they were now $119.99 less 40% off so I got a credit of almost $40.00 back on my visa. Also, don't believe CS when you call and they say that no one has an item. That is simply not true. Have a store check, found an item yesterday on the first phone call.

    1. Oh yikes, I just got the credit confirmation on the shoes. They credited me back $66.85 so I only paid $48.74 for the shoes when all is said and done. Again, poor math skills to my advantage.

    2. I tried calling a store a couple weeks ago and was told in a very clipped tone that what we see online is the exact information that the stores have. I told her that I've had luck in the past having a store do a search when it showed up as sold out online, and she gave me an exaggerated annoyed sigh and tried anyway (maybe?).
I understand it's Christmas, and you're busy and all that, but I called in the morning on a weekday specifically to avoid calling during a very busy time. Overwhelmingly, my experiences with J.Crew's SAs and CS reps have been positive, but every once in a while you get a bad one. I just wish they had more consistency because it seems like they're not all on the same page.

    3. in my experience (limited) I have found the CS do keep notes so they know when you have called and what you have asked for...like PA's. so I think this is the reason I have often been turned down again and again. I wonder if they get annoyed if they know a customer keeeps calling numerous time to ask for the same thing ???

    4. I don't know, I don't call all the time so hopefully I don't have a black mark beside my name. Hopefully, all the thousands of dollars I spend per year will help with a gold star...

  4. OT but speaking of CS - does anyone know if it's possible to get more than one price adjustment on an item if it's within the 10 day timeframe? I ordered the velvet cami last week (which I still haven't received) and it went on 30% off FP the next day which I had adjusted and now it's down to $59.99 with an extra 40% off.

    1. I have had at least 2 Pa's on certain items....but its a 7 day window....as far as I know. again limited experience.

    2. Depends on who you talk to. It is not consistent from person to person, maybe it is a training issue on the part of J.Crew.

    3. It's 7 days of an item being shipped. If you haven't received the item yet definitely insist.

    4. Thanks, ladies. I figured the least I can do is try...and asked for the 50% off that's in store. We'll see how it goes.

    5. Anne, good luck! Never hurts to ask.

  6. Every single one of the "new" style solid-color Tippis I have bought have snagged on the first wear. I have older ones, worn multiple times, washed... which still look great. But the newer ones, not so much. What gives? (Have not had this issue with the cherry print or the argyle print, however.)

    1. The quality decline on the Tippi has been awful in my opinion. I have a couple Factory versions from a few years ago that are way better quality than the current retail Tippi. Not sure what exactly they changed but I pretty much stopped buying them for that reason - and they were such a wardrobe workhorse!

    2. Agreed. I am so sad about this. Tippi's have been a mainstay for me for years. I love them. But the last few I've purchased have gotten tiny holes immediately in places with no pressure point (not a seam).

    3. I just bought a Tippi today, I sure hope it lasts!

  7. OT but anyone own/ tried on the mesh flats in Stewart plaid? They look cute but do not have many reviews and two of the reviewers are negative and say the shoes is uncomfortable. Scored them on a pop back this morning. Hoping they ship and hoping they are not painful!!!

  8. So CS is giving an extra 10% back on any sale item you ordered within the past 7 days or do you have to say the specific day your store had 50% off? My store was 40% off over the weekend at least, not sure if/when they switched to 50% off...

    1. At 50% off sale. .... I think they may say this is final sale ....just my thoughts.

      Delete
    2. @Cass, it wasn't final sale. Also, make sure CS doesn't take an extra 10% off. This is not equivalent to 50% off and it's a common mistake; I had to give another math lesson yesterday.

      Delete
    3. I did the same today. I had to call back and go over everything again

    4. J.Crew is doing so poorly I think I'm going to just let them keep the additional % :P Let's hope holiday sales volume has been good even with all the discounting cutting into margins.
