This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this
post) says it best, "You know, that thing you
bought because you love it and you keep pulling it
out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please
share your J.Crew item (either that you own or
are thinking about getting) that you would love help
creating an outfit with.
Also,
please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel
free to include links to your blog (where you
incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you
showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance!

ReplyDeleteJCAs, help needed: where do you all shop for sweaters that are made of natural materials and are machine washable? I own a handful of tippi and jackie in merino wool; but have to hand wash them. I'm tired of all the synthetic blend materials in Banana Republic. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!
ReplyDeleteHappy holiday!
I don't have a sweater recommendation but I wash my Tippi and other merino sweaters in my washer using Forever New delicates wash. It comes in a powder and liquid. It is organic and doesn't leave any soap residue (I use it for my bras, etc.) and I haven't had any issue with shrinking using this wash.
Deletecomfyandchic, I hear ya! I've been looking for quality cotton sweaters at a decent price for the longest. I've tried J.Crew's options but they don't seem to hold up. I'd love to hear options from other JCAs.
DeleteIf you google "travel merino wool" you should be able find companies that make a lot of wool items that are treated to be machine washable. Usually great stuff, perhaps not as fashionable.
DeleteBoden! I find their cashmere slightly itchy (I prefer Jcrew cashmere of yore) but they have tons of merino sweaters. If you are not particularly sensitive you may like their cashmere. Usually cotton options too. I haven't shopped this season because my closet is overflowing with sweaters so I'm not knowledgeable this year's offerings but I have tons of Boden sweaters.
ReplyDeleteIf it's in your price point I also really like Kate Spade sweaters. I usually wait for sale but they have some fun, quirky options in beautiful fabrics. I always find myself reaching for the ones I have.
JCAs-- need your style advice! Any suggestions on what to wear to office holiday party which is a small group of us having dinner at a not fancy nor casual restaurant. And I'm in the midatlantic so it's usually cold in mid December which is when this takes place!! We are going to an Italian restaurant and I thought about the wolf tooth silk pants but the thought of getting red sauce on it -- which might happen depending on the intake of wine ;)---yikes!! Maybe the Martie plaid pants but what top? I'm in a very conservative field so I thought the Edie top (which I like) might be too revealing. And I've worn sweaters the last few years.... Maybe a silk blouse? Madewell has a red tie neck blouse. I might even pull out my coral Bella blazer and maybe a sleeveless with the Bella blazer? One year did the Collection marigold top. Can't decide!! Thanks for any help!
ReplyDeleteA black or dark colored velvet blazer is always festive but not over the top—I'd do that with a button down or fitted sweater and statement necklace. Bottoms could be whatever pants—the Margie plaid is perfect.
DeleteIf you've never used Rent the Runway before, this occasion might be a good excuse!
DeleteHi. I would appreciate people's help with my latest styling quandary: the cotton jackie cardigan in herringbone, item F4454. In theory, it should be easy peasy to style and it should go with everything - a neutral color palette in a classic pattern. But while it sort of does go with everything, I am actually find it hard to put together combos that go beyond the "OK". The color was a bit of a surprise in real life - I thought the lighter color was ivory/cream. It's more of a pinkish tan. I got it a couple of weeks ago when someone returned it - I am trying to talk myself into keeping it, but that may be a bad sign. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I haven't worn mine either and picked up up right when it came out (August maybe?). I've been stumped. I did see on instagram someone wear it with a blue striped button down and it looked great. I also saw it with a j crew tee (a reindeer one but I can't remember exactly). I'm interested to hear options. I feel like the blue striped oxford is a good idea but then what on bottom? A blue pencil skirt? Might seem too bankish.
DeleteHib@Torontomodern i like it with the Paris tee,as styled in the catalog.
DeleteMe, too - haven't worn my herringbone cardigan but I bought it as soon as it came out and love it. Agree with Ina, it's cute with the Paris tee but can't seem to come up with anything else and keep putting it back in the closet.
DeleteThanks, liztriden, Ina Mack and shopalot for responding. It does look great with the Paris too but I think I will just give up and return it (cheap as it was - sob). I was so excited to find it, but my closet is way too full of clothes I like/love but can't seem to wear. Even though it was such a great deal, I think it has to go back to make room for something else...
