J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  2. Ok. Here we go, same old story - the order I placed on 11/24 still sitting in "released" status still says "delivery on or before 12/6," which according to my calendar is TODAY. I have never had this happen before! Everything I ordered is still in stock & has been in stock so I truly do not understand the hold up. Get it together, J Crew! (Sorry for the endless complaints!)

    1. Me too, waiting patiently...though I'd love to be able to return wat doesn't work before the mall gets too chaotic. Supposedly I have two shipments out for delivery this morning. I'm hoping they come before the afternoon becUse I know one includes an order of NB sneaks my daughter doesn't want. (So much for surprises.)

    2. Taylor, you are definitely not alone. I have several orders from a week or more ago (none from 11/24) that haven't shipped. And not just from Jcrew. Have you signed up to recieve UPS notifications? According to mine, I have 2 packages coming today from Jcrew that I haven't received shipping notifications for. We'll see what happens...

    3. @Lauren - no, how do you do that if the order is still in "released" state? I've just never had it happen before where no movement has occurred at all & here we are on the "delivery on or before" date.

@Suz you couldn't pay me to go to the mall right now! Thank goodness for online shopping. Good luck!

    4. As far as other orders from other companies placed the same week - I have a LOFT order coming today (placed 11/25) & I can't remember what else although I'm sure there will be more appearing out of nowhere. They're like my own surprise presents. :)

    5. I'm waiting on one order each from Madewell, JC, JC Factory, and Limited, all placed 11/22 - 25. Limited clearly disclosed on its order page that it would take 7-9 days to fulfill orders; the others, not so much. I know I should be happy that sales were good for my fav stores, but I wish they'd better anticipated the increased volume!

    6. Still no movement on my JC Factory order placed on 11/28. Wish I could cancel the whole thing!

    7. i have two orders sitting in released... honestly, at this point, if they ship then awesome. if not, oh well.

    8. We are all in the same boat!!! My Anthro and Zara orders are just arriving today. Apparently December 6th is the day for all of us. Realizing we are all spoiled with fast shipping (thanks Amazon for turning us into this) it is tough to wait this long for stuff we are excited about. luxe101.com

    9. My two orders from 11/23 and 11/24 sat in 'Released' status for ages, but finally shipped at some point and I received one today and one yesterday. Will post some mini-reviews below (since most items aren't new/have been around for a while.) None of the items in my orders were ever sold out or anything like that, so I suspect the shipping issue may be a result of not having planned properly for the most part (but who knows!) I just hope everyone's orders ship out. And soon!!

@Taylor, i had the same 'On or Before 12/6' message on my orders and that was true for both of my orders -- i hope the same is true for yours and that you get yours by today.

My JC Factory order from 11/27 is also stubbornly holding to its 'Released' status!

    10. I have sort of a darkly comic ordering tale. Early in Nov. I had ordered the button front mini with the gold buttons in the mustard color. (can't remember name but it also comes in navy). It's a beautiful skirt, but too short for me. I returned it and snagged a button front skirt F4006 on 11/23 in heather acorn. The package just arrived. I tore into it only to find--the old gold button mini I had returned! For a minute, I thought I had somehow sent the skirt back to myself, but the enclosed order form showed I should have gotten F4006. Just called customer service and they're overnighting me F4006. So, hopefully will get the correct skirt and it will work for me.

    11. @Mary G that is too funny. I am so glad they have the correct skirt in stock! Fingers crossed that they send you the right one!

  3. Madewell is offering 20% off any order, 30% off $200+. A couple of reviews that might help:

Flannel classis ex-boyfriend shirt in buffalo check (F9718): A mid-weight flannel, not as cozy as some of MW’s other offerings this winter but still quite substantial. 100% cotton, made in Indonesia. The bright ivory & royal blue check is quite cheery. Generally TTS, but the sleeves are disproportionately short at 20 ½” in size XXS. The shirt has a slight a-line shape, measuring 34” at the bust, 36” at waist, and 38” at hem, again in XXS. The back hem is approx. 2” longer than the front.

French rib tie-waist tank (F8390): Very sturdy yet dressy. 100% cotton, made in China, dry clean (ugh). The knit is a tightly woven black and ecru (almost tan) stripe with a slight plastic-y feel. Hidden back zip and attached self-belt that happily doesn’t sit too high. Runs slightly small, especially through the bust. Size XXS has a 30 ½” bust, 31” waist, and 21” length; size XS has a 31” bust, 33” waist, and 22” length.

  4. There is a pretty decent flash sale at Factory too, got two new sweaters for my husband for less than $30 each plus another 10% off and free shipping.

    1. Also, if you're a JC cardholder - CARDGIFTS will get you an additional 25% off $100. Pretty good for when they're doing 50-60% off the site to begin with.

  5. I got the tie neck dress in wool crepe and the double serge wool dress in lilac yesterday. I ordered both 11/24 with the 40% off promo and it took that long to ship and receive them.

Anyway, I'm returning both dresses, although they are pretty good quality and I'm sure they'd make someone who's not me happy. The double serge dress is heavy weight and well-made. It fit well and seems true to size, but the color is awful on me and the style is a little blah.

I like the tie-neck dress in theory, but it's just a bit too big in the chest, although it fits in the waist. The fabric is thin and scratchy, too, particularly around the neck area.

Anyone else try this dress? It's completely sold out on the site as I type this.

    1. Hello - I got the tie neck dress. It fit perfectly in 10 on me tts. I'm a bit busty on top and was surprised that it fit so well so agree it has some room in the bodice. I really liked ind will keep - although probably can't wear until warmer temps!

    2. I got the tie-neck dress too and like Laura, I was surprised that it fits well. I believe I went with my regular tall size. The wool for this dress is OK, I wasn't too crazy about it. Though the tie-neck is cute, am still undecided, it's cute but not that cute....maybe it'll grow on me.

I also ordered the double serge wool dress in the lilac/light purple color but did not like how it looked on me, something was off at the waist but heavy and great quality wool.

  6. I need help. I am trying to decide whether or not to get a pair of F8471, Sadie pom poms? They are $148.00 and not on any promo. I do have a $20.00 card that could go towards them. I can either get these or make a trip to the clearance store later this week. I know there is no chance of these shoes but I could find some other good stuff. Should I go for the sure thing with the shoes or take a chance? I would spend about the same amount of money but I can't do both right now. I have a store holding the shoes until tomorrow.

    1. If you really want the shoes, I say get them. I was stalking the collection double strap leopard flats in desperation and pretty much gave up hope until my VPS found them. I was elated!! They are more wonderful than I imagined. I am willing to forgo further purchases for these babies. If you feel the same way about the Sadie pom poms, I say go for it! :)

    2. Just FYI Doodle Dachshund: I had a $25 coupon ($25 off when you spend $100 on your J.Crew card) and it would not work for those shoes. "Excluded from all promos" apparently. (Obviously a gift card should work--not sure what your situation is.) I ended up ordering them anyway last week when they popped back in my size but of course they haven't shipped yet. Expecting the dreaded "We wish we made more" email any time now!

    3. Hi DD, I was interested in those shoes early on but some reviews aren't great as far as comfort so I passed. They also will be limited in wear due to the tartan - great for the holidays of course. If you truly love them I'd get them but I know you often find great treasures at the clearance store. :)

    4. Well, I have the red plaid d'orsay from last year that I have never worn. I guess I should just wear them. I did read that some of the reviews were negative. I guess I will sleep on it and decide tomorrow. Thanks for all the input. My last trip to the clearance store was almost a bust because they didn't have any shoes or jewelry. They are my go to for shoes but I did end up with a beautiful Olivia collection coat in heather gray which is awesome!!!

    5. Since you already have plaid shoes you haven't worn, why not get a Pom Pom shoe clip and just put them on your shoes. I know it's a slightly different silhouette and pattern, but it might make them look fresher.

    6. Dying that you have the red plaid d'orsay from last year & haven't worn!!! Yes, wear those beauties! I think the flats are cute but maybe too flat for comfort. And I did what Suz suggested and ordered some feather pom pom clips off Amazon and have gotten lots of use from them.

  7. Quick reviews:

Skirt in floral jacquard item F5911, in Petite sizing. Quality is there, though somehow the pattern seemed more attractive to me online than IRL. The blue and gold colors didn't seem as balance and I felt more of an overall blue tone -- minor note, but wanted to point it out all the same. The fit was a miss for me, but that often happens to me with with JC skirts. Tight at the waist and roomy in the hips. A return for me, if only b/c I don't want to spend time figuring out what size will work best for me (whatever I end up with would require tailoring.)

Silk ruffled clip-dot dress item F8770 - sized down from my usual Regular 2 to a 0. Beautiful dress and fabric but something about the fit for the skirt portion is off -- too roomy/voluminous. Still deciding whether I should attempt to have it hemmed.

Textured tie-neck top in polka dot item F8141 - same pretty fabric as above. Tried 0 in store, found the fit slightly roomy, sleeves too long, so I tried a 00 this time -- way too tight. The best part though -- item was shipped separately from rest of my order so I think (didn't check) that it was shipped from a store but they DIDN'T INCLUDE the cami that comes with it! Oy.

Anyways, other items in my order were some clip bracelets, which will make great, pretty gifts. Oh, I also ordered some Gemma in suede with the contrast trim -- very pretty, but these seemed to run bigger than my 'usual' Gemma size. (I'm a 6.5 everywhere else but with JC, I take a 6 in most shoes. The 6 for these had that 'boat' effect that other Gemmas, like the leopard 1, haven't had.

    1. TM93 - I had the same experience with the floral jacquard skirt in regular sizing. I thought it wasn't as stunning in person as online and the fit was also off for me. I have such difficulty getting the high-waisted styles to fit as they seem to have so much excess room in the hips compared to the waist.

      Delete
    2. @Violet -- you hit the nail on the head. That is exactly my issue: the high-waisted skirts/pants are too tight at the waist, roomy in the hips. Bummer. I bought some wool pencil skirts in Petite from Factory this year and they fit so perfectly, that I bought them in three other colors. Such a rare thing for me to have something fit off the hanger!

Also, I'm glad you felt the same way about the pattern. Bummer!

  8. TM93: I saw your suggested the other week and went ahead and ordered some clip bracelets, too! Thanks for the tip. -lep33shops

  9. Ordered Nightshirt in Black Watch Flannel during 40% off and received it today. The nightshirt is a soft flannel that's cozy and perfect for cool nights. Fit is tts since it should be a slight oversized fit. Black watch plaid is what you'd expect in terms of color and is quite versatile. I'm planning to wear as a tunic with Vince leather leggings or Le Frame jeans. Will look great with a bootie or knee length/OTK boot. The pockets are a very nice addition and increase the functionality of the top. Madewell has something comparable that I saw last night as I was leaving Nordstrom; flannel side button dress that's $98. Definitely prefer this J Crew option.

  10. Coral and pink suede kiltie shoes, F7990. Cute but enormous. When the 8½ fell off my feet, I tried an 8. The 8 was perceptibly shorter but still dangerously too wide. Undeterred, I moved on to size 7½. These still billowed at the heel. Disappointed, but since even with holidays coming, I don't anticipate gaining weight on the bottoms of my feet, returning all of them.

  11. houndstooth pink no.2 pencil skirt: fits well, went with regular size. Wool is good quality, lined with polyester. The houndstooth pattern is different from a similar skirt from 3 winters ago and a little longer but overall, I really like the skirt.
