"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. The perfect-fit tees just aren't what they used to be. I used to get a couple years' of heavy use from them (even wearing them as pj tops), but new ones are developing multiple holes after a month or so. That's another JC classic that I won't be replenishing, sigh.

  2. I ordered the open cardigan for my sister's Christmas gift almost two weeks ago. It finally shipped - from a store. After seeing how some of them looked in the B&M yesterday, I don't know if I'd feel comfortable giving it to her. It's sad that I wish there was an option in ordering that said "If this item's going to be fulfilled from a B&M, don't bother".

    1. Same reason why I don't shop at the store..I don't like buying worn out items...sorry to hear that, Silver Lining.

    2. The good news: I got the open cardigan and it appears to be in good shape.

The semi-good news: The top of the stretch cotton sleep set in stripe (e4284) feels amazing and is very flattering.

The bad news: The bottoms to the set were not in the bag. The set is online-only and has been sold out. Gah!

    3. I got the dreaded security tag still attached to a sweater that I purchased as a gift online. Another reason for not liking an item to come from the store. Or course it is sold out, and I am 2 hours from the closest store.

    4. Oh Karend, that's terrible!! Can you possibly take it to another retailer with your receipt to show that you did indeed purchase it and see what they say? Maybe a Gap or Banana? I realize the tags might not be the same, but worth a shot since there isn't a JC near you.

How frustrating! I once received a JC order clearly fulfilled by a store-- the tag was still on the sweater and the belt I ordered was not included. Grrrr. Good luck!! Ugh.

  3. Against better judgement I went ahead and bought a Christmas present at my B&M .. Just to find out that the price has not only dropped significantly but has an additional 40% off.. this about 12 days after my purchase. Gift is all beautifuly wrapped ready to be given..What am I suppose to do? Unwrap, return it and start a quest for a new gift? It is either that or I risk giving something that the person will think I got from the sale's rack.. Annoying to say the least.

    1. Nan, it shouldn't be an issue if you think it's a beautiful present that the person who receives it will love. Most of the people don't know as much as we do about sales and markdowns (sometimes speaking with friends who buy Jcrew or Crewcuts I am like "What? You don't know that in the morning there is plenty of old stuff on sale on the website?) and if she/he wants to exchange it the gift receipt will show the real price you paid.

    2. I agree with Ema, if you think the person will love it then it's a great gift! Like she said, most people don't stalk the site like we do ;) Also, it makes me happy when I know that someone got me a gift I love for a great deal.

    3. Can you order it on sale and return the sale item with the full price receipt? If the same size and color is available this should work?

    4. I've actually done what v smith said. Buy the sale item but return it with the full price receipt when they wouldn't do the price adjustment thing. (To be fair I think I only did it once and the sale was like a month later so I couldn't blame them for saying no) but the item was from the warehouse both times so the tags were the same. I don't know if cashiers care tho

    5. @Ema,Lauren & V smith , thank you for taking the time to offer your suggestions.Really nice of you.
Yes, it is a beautiful and thoughtful gift that I truly believe the recipient would love. But I would hate for her to browse the website to find out that it is on the sale section w/ 40% off.. even if at the time of purchase I paid full price for it.I will definitely return it and get her another gift (from Anthro as she loves both equaly)

  4. The button ups I purchased this year are horrible quality. And they come unbuttoned all the time. I wore one last week and I couldn't keep it buttoned. I was at work and super self conscious the entire day. My olds ones don't do that.
