This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So
if you have recently purchased,
or stopped by a J.Crew store to try
on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you
might be willing to share that
information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In
particular, if you could
mention a few of the noteworthy
details like fit, size, fabric, and the
like— that would be fantastic! Thanks
in advance! :)
I've shared numerous reviews on my blog All Things Simplified this past week. A couple from J.Crew, Nordstrom, & an Anthropologie review, too. :)
ReplyDeleteA couple of Sundance Catalog reviews, as well.
DeleteOT & PSA: The Eileen Fisher boots I reviewed here earlier this week, just received another markdown, so they're at 50% off now for those interested.
DeleteI have a few reviews HERE and HERE
ReplyDeletesome reviews and reactions in this post and some notes and comments on a few recent purchases in this post also.
ReplyDeleteI reviewed the Cropped Pant in Wool Flannel on my blog here. Big thumbs up! I also posted a few pics and a mini review of the Perfect Shirt in Stewart Plaid in the same post. I'm so happy to have found a pair of wide leg cropped pants that work on my curvy figure.
ReplyDeleteI ordered the collarless leopard print blouse on sale last week and it arrives today so I'm hoping that works out as well.
Those looks fantastic on you. I also love the way you've styled them with the all-blue outfit. I'm *almost* tempted to order a pair, but I'm considerably shorter than you are. I tried the regular length wide leg pants and they were a total disaster on me!
DeleteGreat review of those pants! They look great on you in the navy. I have them now in 3 colors (black, grey, and olive) and they are very flattering.
DeleteThank you so much! I'm wearing them today with the grey jeweled shoulder sweater from a few years ago and the Roxie houndstooth pumps - you can see on my Instagram account @fablifeforever here
Delete@Blakemdjohns - My Instafriend who I saw these on which prompted me to order is several inches shorter than me and they looked great on her. Not trying to tempt you but...maybe worth a try not on final sale.
Not a review, but a thank you to the people who gave me feedback on the Chateau Parka. I bit on the navy colorway in 2P. It fits perfectly! The arms are slim, but I can still wear a heavy sweater underneath, and the swingy A-line silhouette is flattering without being overwhelming. I really like it! I can see why it's so popular. Very glad I didn't size up or down. Love that there are reviews on the web site, but sometimes it can be confusing when the reviews differ so much!
ReplyDeleteThe order that came last night is mostly going back.
ReplyDeleteSuper 120's pull on pants in indigo:
Huge and unflattering. They might have worked when I was pregnant with my twins. I love the 120's fabric and the color on these pants, but the cut is a total fail - going back.
Sunday Slim chinos:
Love the colors, love the soft fabric. As the reviews note, the pants run big. The description confusingly includes the words "slouchy" and "slim". The pants are neither - loose and high cut are more like it. The short length is a little odd given the vibe of the pants (higher waist etc.). I'm 5'6", and the length is questionable, especially for fall/winter. I bought my daughter a pair - she is 5'3" and she likes them but IMO they are a tad short for her too unless she rolls them. The petite version of this is going to be very very short, which might be a godsend for someone less that 5 feet. I'm on the fence about these - they're comfortable but the proportions make me feel a little pudgy (not entirely the pants fault).
Brulee crystal drop earrings:
Cheap looking. Going back.
Bi-stretch wool pants:
Hmm - these are okay but not a home run on me - not sure if I will keep them. Very nice fabric and I am a big fan of side zip pants, which flatter my body and look better with the tops and jackets in my wardrobe than front zips. They are super long - too long even with 3" heels so they would require tailoring. They flare out at the bottom more than I thought they would. These pants are very high waisted. The petite might have worked better - I am 5'6". I took my normal size.
I've figured out a bit of a rhythm and have three new review on my blog. Link in sidebar (mAqsad shops, reviews, reflects). Also at least 6 other reviews on my IG feed. More to come! Also posting in weekly sale column, in case you're a size 00,0 or 2; or a size 6 in shoes. Happy holidays, everyone!! :-*
ReplyDelete(E3178) Collection A-Line Midi Skirt in Gossamer Peach, Size 2 - I ordered this skirt just to try on. Wow, what a stunner. A collection piece, so quality is there.
ReplyDeleteThe wool fabric is nice; 85% wool, 15% silk, lining 100% polyester. It sits high waist, you might want to size up to feel comfortable. I'm short-waisted, and not slim in the tummy that is why I would size up. I'm 4'11, the length was mid-calf on me. The slit is not crazy high that it would expose anything.
I tied a bow, and it reminded me of a Japanese kimono...that's it! This skirt is like a cherry blossom tree - just pretty. I can see this skirt worn even in the Spring season.
Gossamer Peach is a pretty color. It's like a light blush, very faint pinky peach.
With my lifestyle, it's not practical to keep. And since it's not offered in petite, I would need to size up to a 4; fine at the waist but it wont fit me everywhere.
Hi JSR, I have been keeping an eye out for this skirt. Have you returned it? I can buy from you if you still have it. Please let me know.
DeleteThanks,

Also some Madewell Reviews HERE
ReplyDeletePainter boatneck t-shirt in stripe. I got the black ivory. (Or black and white). It's very fitted in my usual tee shirt/sweater size. Definitely a smoother, stretchier knit which gives it a slightly dressier feel. Length is long, and I have a long torso, but since it's so fitted I will ruch it up.
ReplyDeleteI agree on the negative review of the brûlée crystal drop earrings. I received them last night. Too chunky and bright to look sophisticated. In store I tried the Jenna earring and another large sparkly fabric backed earring. Both were too oversized for my face and hair. Happy to save the money there!
Dressing up for a party Saturday night, I wore the shrunken merino turtleneck in black, and was choosing between pants. The wide leg pant in wool (full length) and the full length pant in bi stretch wool (side zip) which my husband preferred. I wore long earrings from a few seasons back (don't remember but they have a deep red rose and sort of rose gold finish with stones) and my glitter Elsies. Super comfy and festive enough!
My 13 year old laughed at my shoes but all my friends loved them!
Delete@Suz Has I love the sound of that outfit! I need to get my hands on a black version of that shrunken turtleneck. I wore my glitter Elsie pumps with those full length pants last week to sneak in a few wears at work, my only complaint was the glitter on the heels kept catching on the pant legs. But they would be perfect with an all black outfit!
DeleteAnne, thanks so much! I love the cropped navy pants on you, they were almost perfect on me in black--if I wanted to wear them with the shirt out the pleats wouldn't have been an issue.
DeleteAnd @anne, I saw you have the turtleneck in navy, you should definitely stalk for popbacks in black. I ordered a second (since I love it so much and it's kind of the only color I wear) and ended up with navy (I was on my phone and didn't read!) so it went back, but by then the price was even better too. (I just don't wear navy so it didn't make sense to keep it.)
DeleteJust an update on the abstract fair isle cardigan, which I hemmed and hawed about but am really glad I bought. Very thick, warm lambswool -- no poly! Definitely more of a jacket than a sweater. The pattern looks so good! If you can catch it on popback, size down. One of the best pieces J.Crew did this season for sure.
ReplyDeleteTwo more reviews: chateau parka in the red color. I'm usually a 2 in most blazers and knew I'd size up as I always do in coats. I'm only 5'6" but the arms seem to often be short on me, and I often wear blazers. I ordered the 4 and the 6 in regular not tall. The sleeves are about an inch longer on the 6 but overall I'd say the coat looks too big, The sleeves on the 4 hit just at my wrist which feels a little short. I love the look but feel like it may be too wide for me. I really wanted a red coat but this may not be it,
ReplyDeleteRayner jeans in crescent wash. I ordered the Keller wash after liking the black (but returning because I am more of a denim wearer). Let me start by saying the model pics of the crescent wash don't do them (the jeans) any favors. White pumps? Pink belt? And the action shot is not so flattering, also too much Photoshopping of the jeans, they are less bleached and I actually prefer the real wash to what's pictured. That said, the crotch seems a little different with the zipper starting higher up, (with more seam showing in the crotch before it turns into the zipper, if you know what I mean!) which is one of my pet peeves. And of course they need to be steamed so they lay properly. Fit is otherwise the same as the Keller wash. I took my usual jean size. Other people said to size down but I felt that was too tight for my taste. For the price a cool look.
A few reviews:
ReplyDeleteJ. Crew Embellished Mockneck Sweater
J. Crew Contrast Floral Lace Skirt
J. Crew Brushed Wool-Blend Crewneck Sweater in Plaid
I got the brushed wool plaid sweater in cardinal navy because of your review, thanks I love it. Just yesterday I ordered the sandstone sea also. Do you have any modeling pics of you in that one? I can't find anything modeling it online. I love your instagram and blog, check both obsessively. Have a merry and a happy!
DeleteLoren: you're super sweet, thank you! I love that sweater. The fit/quality is superb. The sandstone color is on the way to me. I should get it tomorrow. I will post styling pics immediately! Merry Christmas!
DeleteOh how wonderful! Thank you so much! My sandstone is due to arrive on Sat. I'm too impatient :) I also got the ivory multi fair isle bec. of you too lol. It is a perfect match to the ivory wool no. 2 pencil if you want a dressy option for it. The cardinal navy I put a navy/white very mini gingham shirt underneath it and pair it with the navy double serge wool no. 2 pencil. I wonder if the sandstone will coordinate with last year's heather acorn wool no. 2. I think the navy faux leather pleated mini or midi looks like it would coordinate with the sandstone. Thank you again!
DeleteLoren: I LOVE those outfit ideas!!! A possible outfit pic featuring the sandstone sweater is on my Instagram!
DeleteWow, I love it! Thank you so much for posting the pic, it looks fantastic with the shirt you paired with it and that color denim too. All my denim is dark so I'll have to see if it'll work. Sorry I never post comments on your instagram, I don't have an account and from what I see you have to get an app. or something and I have no idea how to do that either. I'm embarrassing myself lol. I was wondering if the dotted line in the plaid is coral or red? Thank you so much and Merry Christmas!
DeleteLoren: OMG, thank you!!! Darker denim will work well, too! My distressed denim is all light. The dotted line in the plaid is coral. Please let me know what you think when you get your sweater. Merry Christmas!!!!
DeleteThe length of the lace skirt is so perfect on you. The gold lamé one too, I should add.
ReplyDeleteAnd I had no idea the mock neck was a grayish color. From pics I thought it was ivory. So pretty.
Suz Has: Thank you!!!! Initially, I ordered the Lace Skirt in my normal size. It was huge. I am SO glad that I reordered the right size!
ReplyDeleteI'm so tempted to get the gold lame skirt. In every pic I've seen it's so flattering. No idea where I'd wear it! (Dinner dates!) but so pretty.
ReplyDeleteThank you to the JA who helped me pick the right size for the Collection cashmere-blend Fair Isle pencil skirt. I was having one of those days and I opened the box for this skirt and everything was magically better.
ReplyDeleteI'm a size 6 on the bottom and the S fit perfectly. I often have an issue with JCrew pencil skirts not being fitted enough in the waist and tapering down the leg, but this was perfect. It looks like a custom fit skirt. The colors in person are wonderful, there isn't a much ivory, as I think it appears to have online. I thought it might have a bit of blue in it, but the stripes are just grey. It's honestly my favorite JCrew purchase of the year. I am going to be so careful about where I sit, because I want this skirt to last forever. I ordered a blue featherweight cashmere t-shirt to wear with it, so I'm excited to see if that works like I hope it will.
I'm so happy that your skirt worked out Jessica! I know I've seen you mentioning it on a few posts...it's always awesome when something you've really wanted for awhile works out perfectly.
DeleteAnd I totally understand that desire to want something to last forever. Sometimes I find myself not wanting to wear my favorite pieces because I want to have them forever!
I'm so happy you love it! I wore mine the other day and wondered if you had been able to snag it. It's my fav skirt this year.
DeleteHas anyone tried on or reviewed any of the Collection Strappy heels? I'd love to hear more about their fit. I take a 9.5 in most J.Crew shoes.
ReplyDeleteI have the green ones in calf hair. I find them to be very comfortable for the height of the heel. The ones I have are the ones with the chunkier heel. The shoe is true to size (I find that some J. Crew shoes run 1/2 a size small, and this is not the case for these). They are also not as narrow as some J. Crew shoes. Hope this helps. They are a nice looking shoe.
DeleteThank you for this info. Hmmmm...I was planning to try a 9.5, but now I wonder if I should go for the 9. In terms of the fit and quality, do they measure up to their price? Not at full price of course, but at 30-40% off?
DeleteI've reviewed the merino sweater dress on my blog, LOVE both the green and red colors. Great weight of wool, love the length and the flare; no lining and a little too decollete but nothing a cami cannot fix
ReplyDeleteThank you! This is the first time that I've seen a "real" photo. I love the green version and your styling - the belt is a nice touch. Of course, it's completely sold out in the green. I have my fingers crossed for a pop-back.
Deleteanytime Melodie! Yes the green color is just gorgeous and you can complement it so many ways.
DeleteA review of the J. Crew Double-Breasted Coat in Mini Check and Sweater Skirt
ReplyDeleteThat yellow skirt looks great! I'm hoping to catch it after Christmas for a good price. you wear a slip? Some comments on the web site talked about the see-through factor.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteMelodie: thanks! Nope, I'm not wearing a slip. I mentioned those reviews because the skirt does not seem/feel see through in my opinion.
DeleteAdded a review of the silk flutter blouse. It feels like the JCrew have been missing is back again, and am surprised the item has not sold out. The silk is great (some have complained the white color is too sheer but I wore it with a nude strapless bra and it was fine in my opinion). I did not take a picture of the midnight blue color but it is very pretty. Am sad the blouse came in two colors only.
