Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  2. I bought some nice 100% linen tanks at BR recently, simple and versatile. Also a very nice cotton poplin dress from the Gap ... haven't bought anything there in quite a while, but this dress actually falls to the (low) knee, very simple shape (elastic at waist but doesn't bother me), and I washed it, hung to dry and it looks new (didn't need to iron). I'm amazed.

  3. Got my Boden catalog yesterday and I'd love to see an IRL smackdown between the new JC Collette d'Orsay pump and the Boden d'Orsay Court pump. The Boden shoe is a little lower (good for me), much less expensive (good for me), and has both a leather lining and leather sole (GREAT for me) but the Collette has a more sophisticated shape IMO.

I dearly wish that the Collette was a true kitten heel (2 1/2" or less). I would buy them in every color. At 3 1/8" they are higher than my beloved Valentina's (2 7/8"), which is about my limit for a day-to-day shoe.

I think Elsie's are pretty but I don't have it in me, even for special occasions. I think Roxie's are not pretty - there comes a point (4" IMO) when shoes are just too high and they are unflattering and unclassy as well as ruinous. It's amazing how much of a difference half an inch makes!

  4. Madewell updated with new arrivals on Tuesday. Went to the b&m in Burlington mall looking to try on the Elin Backless Loafers, but they were not available (though the store was bedecked with new arrivals). Turns out these shoes are only available in select stores. :(

Well so much for trying them on. Ordered two pairs in 6.5 and 7, and they should arrive Friday. Hopefully one of them fits! I've been waiting for them since I saw the fall catalog a few months ago.

  5. Just got my first purchase from Zady, which I love. Came in recyclable packaging, lovely reusable bag, instead of plastic and/or tissue. Some information on 'fast fashion' and their concept for 'slow fashion', and a coupon for $25 on my next purchase of $100. Will be looking more at their website for my future clothing purchases. I hope they don't go the way of Everlane, offering only oversized clothes, since I have some lovely items from them from prior years.
