"Thanks!" to many of you, who let us know the following news from this morning.

Madewell is offering customers to take an extra 40% off sale items with promo code EXTRA40.  The offer expires July 22, 2015. The fine print includes:
Offer valid on the purchase of sale items at madewell.com from July 16, 2015, 12:01am ET through July 22, 2015, 11:59pm ET. Offer not valid in Madewell stores or on phone orders. Offer cannot be applied to previous purchases and cannot be redeemed for cash or used in combination with any other offer. To redeem, enter code EXTRA40 in the promo code box at checkout. Limit one promotional code per order. Offer valid in the U.S. only. Terms of offer are subject to change. Final sale items cannot be returned or exchanged
The following are a few items on sale:

An additional percent off was being offered at B&M stores, so I am going to assume they still are even though the fine print states otherwise.

Did you check Madewell out today? Were you able to snag any amazing deals? If so, please share! :)

  1. Yuck Madwell is the worst...I don't get people's fascination of it...I always go in wanting to like it but the clothes are drab and plain and overpriced for what they offer..It is one of the worst stores I have been in..and I shop a lot!.. I know J. Crew is not at the top of its game lately but it is still has much, much better styles than Madewell.

    1. I love that everything is mostly natural fabrics (cotton or silk) and that the clothes are easy and simple, but stylish. They definitely fall more toward a minimalist aesthetic rather than a bright, preppy one, but there's also a nice bohemian vibe that I like, too. I've found some real closet workhorses there over the past few years.

    2. I love the simplistic, understated part of Madwell, and I wish JCrew went more into that direction. And with the new Head of Design I hope it will!

    3. anon, that's what I like about it too. J. Crew used to be understated and now it's gone in a brighter, louder direction. Madewell is more "me" than J. Crew lately.

  2. Madewell website is having problems, just as I'm trying to place an order. Sigh.

  3. I don't shop much at madewell, but had to get one of those cute stripey umbrellas pictured above(!) - it came to like $12 after promo. I also got another pair of alley straight jeans since they were down to about $35 and I really like my current pair - higher rise and a good inseam length for me (5'10").

    1. I've also really liked that dotted pouch pictured above for a long time... but one reviewer said the dots didn't have a backing fabric, so all your items are on display thru the holes. deal breaker.

  4. Finally got my order placed! I ordered two different black sweaters (I'm oh-so-very daring in my color choices, apparently), one of the sunbask tank tops (in green, I'm also tempted by the red), and a pretty scarf.

I like the Madewell look, if mixed in with the rest of my wardrobe. I'm not beachy-bohemian all the time, but their stuff can look rather modern and minimalistic in the right colors/with the right shoes and jewelry.

And I like that most of their fabrics are natural, and that the cuts have nice movement.

    1. Glad your order got through! I'm still running into a lot of hiccups on the site. I too like Madewell in combo with items from other retailers. I prefer a more classic, tailored style, and a single rough-around-the-edges piece from Madewell IMO helps to keep my outfits from being too stuffy.

  5. I did place an order for the skinny skinny crop jeans in chilton wash that I had on my wish list for months. I would recommend the mini transport tote since I love it in the two colors that I have. Except Madewell did a J Crew move by increasing the price today from yesterday prior to the sale. I did also receive an email from Madewell a week or so ago giving me a 20% off discount but only 1 promo per order so I will use it on something else

    1. I've been eyeing those for months and I don't see them on the site today :( I'm 5'3" and I'm looking for the perfect skinny jean and don't want to deal with alterations.

    2. Sara Lee, here is the item number b8385. I am only 5'1" and the skinny skinny crop is the perfect length for me.

  6. Has anybody tried the verse dress? I am 5' 8" and currently a 0/2 at the Crew, and trying to gauge whether the XS is going to be too small or too short. Any input appreciated!

  7. I purchased the 'North shore cover-up in extricate stitch' a few weeks ago and I love it! In my opinion, it does run one size large. The fabric is great (cotton but not too gauzy) and the dip in the back is perfect for a cover up! I suppose you could wear it as a dress as some of the reviewers stated but that is not for me. I purchased the Abbot slides from jcrew when they were offering 50% off sale and the bright kiwi color matches the dress perfectly.

  8. Does anyone have any fit info about the silk trapeze cami dress in Italian floral?

  9. Has anyone seen a sale Transport tote in one of the summery colors in store? I like the light green but I think there is also a light gray or a rose color that I'd be happy with! I keep missing it online and the mini transport tote is too mini! Thanks!

  10. Can I take a moment to vent? What is up with all the ghost pages?!! So annoying, and makes browsing less fun. Madewell, do your customers a favor and take items off the site as they sell out.

Thank you, I feel better now. :)

  11. I wonder if the website is malfunctioning. It seems like all of a sudden every single thing on my wish list, both sale and full priced items is sold out in almost every size.

    1. I can't complain about the malfunction too much- the huaraches I'd been eyeing flashed down to on sale for just a bit and I snagged them w/the 40% off, now they're back to full price. Glad they don't do reverse price adjustments.

  12. The pair of shorts I've had on my wish list for months did not decrease in price enough for me to order them, and I've been waiting for 40% off! Urgh!

  13. I ordered the v-neck pocket tees in several colors. I have two of these already and they wash and wear great. I bought them on Alexis' recommendation here (Thanks Alexis! :) ) and they are my favorite tees. All the colors aren't on sale, but some are.
