Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Day 5 and my order is still in "released" mode. Haven't received a shipping confirmation. But they sure are bugged that I have stuff in my cart and everyday I get an email asking me if I've "forgotten" something. I want to send THEM an email and ask them if they've FORGOTTEN something!

    1. Straycat, I would call them and request that they upgrade your shipping method since you have waited so long. I got a package and in it was a Navy Jackie from Spring 13. I called them and requested a new one since it was for a gift and I had ordered one and it was labelled SU 15. So I know they had new ones in the warehouse and asked for the package to be shipped directly to the person and upgrade the shipping method and they did. But when I asked why they were shipping old merchandise, the SA put me on hold for about 5 mins, came back on the line and told me that the date on the label is not the manufacturing season, it is the first time a product is introduced by J Crew. Say what!!!

    2. JRS I might have kept the 13 Jackie. It was probably better quality than the 15 with the way things have been lately. Although I understand wanting the newer one as it was a gift. And I love the answers we receive from CS. Really, the date tag does not designate the date and season when the item was offered. Come on!!!!

    3. I received a Fall 13 Jackie and a Spring 12 Tippi (the color block stripe which was full price until last week) :-0
I have certainly been buying Jackies since before 2013! Recently J Crew shipped my gc refund to the wrong address, and when I called, they told me I wouldn't get it for another 3 weeks. Gotta love CS sometimes!

    4. I still have the original Jackie was waiting to make sure I got a shipping notice for the replacement, before I returned it. I really would not have minded the older one if quality was better, but it was not, plus it looked faded compared to my 15 one. I have no idea where it had been stored, the price tag was old and so was the bag it came in. I got the 12 Tippi too but the shade of green right next to my face not good for me, so it is being returned.

  2. OT: A follow up on my vent post from earlier this week. I just wanted to give a shout out to NewJCA who suggested that I contact customer service about using my Birthday discount. I did email and they happily applied the discount to a recent order. No scolding, no we will do it one time only etc. Very pleasant exchange and I saved $25. Yay!

    1. I like the leather jacket on me and will probably keep. The color is gorgeous. Wish it would have worked for you Jruby18!

      Delete
    2. It's possible it might have looked better if I'd have sized down 2 sizes. I got a 6 and it was just enormous on me. I'm usually a 4 in coats and dresses, but sized up fearing it ran small. That was a mistake. I'm glad it worked for you. The color is gorgeous!

      Delete
    3. It didn't work for me either (sad face). I even got an estimate from Superior Leather Repair on the cost of "de-puffing" the shoulders - non-starter (sadder face).

      Delete
    4. JRuby, it was me saying that I would not keep it even for free. The sleeves are really bad, and no, I do not think downsizing would work. It is discounted to 15%! original price for a reason. Such a shame, everyone agrees that the leather is gorgeous. My colleague who brought it to work prior to returning it, actually wrote to JCrew about it *she got it for c.$250)
75 bucks for an ill-fitting jacket it's still 75 bucks to expensive (no matter how big a discount), imo.

      Delete
    5. It didn't work for me too. When did we order that WFF, spring time? We both reviewed it and didn't like it. I even ordered two knowing that one might not work out. Even with the correct size on, the sleeves were just bad, and yes, linebacker!
Whoever designed that...approved and released to production...I would be pissed like Mickey. What a waste of material, labor cost, and money.

      Delete
    6. Maybe Mora was fired for a reason; yes JCR, can you imagine not only loos of a potential profit, but also straight out loss labor, material. I discussed it with my friends, and we came to a conclusion that *maybe, just maybe* the design was a ok, but something went wrong with the production/quality control? The sample jacket on the model has the drawstrings on the outside of the jacket, yet the ones sold have in on the inside - which they mention in the description.
This is what happens when you wanna save on cheaper production side of the business, because this jacket is not the only item that seem different from the sample pictured on the model.

  10. Hello JCAs! Longtime reader, first time poster (difficulties posting from an iPad). Your posts and reviews are great and I enjoy reading the threads on the blog daily.

I had a couple of items from this rollout that I really loved so wanted to share. I received the pleated faux-leather miniskirt item c9160 in the mail Thursday and love it. I tried it on in store and had them order it in tall (it was just a little too short for work in the regular length on my 5'8 frame). It looks great with a tippi, and I expect to wear it with blouses too. The pleats make it ladylike and the material makes it look a little edgy. I would say take the larger of your skirt sizes - I am a 6 in pencil skirts and was an 8 in this for the waist to have room for a blouse.

On the same trip the SA convinced me to try the Gemma pointy-toe flats. I got them in the sparkly fabric and they were perfect. Wore them to work Monday all day with no scrapes, blisters or anything else, they were comfortable, and I got a ton of compliments asking where did I find those shoes. I am a 7.5 W in most shoes, and was a 7.5 in these.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks for the reviews. I was wondering about the sizing for the Gemma flat. Just trying to decide on the color. I'm debating between the glitter and the desert pink, trying to pick the most versatile color.

      Delete
    2. @maryeb - I think the glitter is very versatile - although I tend to wear animal print flats with everything too. They are glittery but not over the top for work. Am seriously considering a second pair - probably the animal print or black.

    7. Sorry, but I almost stopped reading after "I am digital marketing professional". Nice, so very good points, but not great. How about the increasing price point for inferior quality? The stuff is flying off the shelves at the current additional 75% off. The point about the guy from Madewell? We don't even know how much JCrew will be influenced by Madewell, if any. Meh.

Not accidentally the 75% off started of when the letter hit the web, just like the "5days sale" immediately after that VP's instagram disaster.

  15. Chino shorts were 30% off in my store today! South hills mall in Pittsburgh, PA area. This was combinable with the 20% off cardholder promo. I looked at both 3 and 4" and ended up getting the olive 3". Also picked up the navy embroidered tunic tee, C5159, at 78 + 20% off using my card for 62.40. The website lists it at that 78 price point but the shirts in my store had it priced at 98 so I guess it must have been lowered at some point. Took my normal size, it's loose fitting but intentionally so and seems TTS. I ended up going in because my mom was up visiting and wanted to pick through the clearance, she found a polynesian floral embellished tank and size 6 was still in stock online for anyone still looking.

September is usually J.Crew's big roll-out, kind of like Vogue's September issue; it signals the start of Fall season. :)

It usually takes a month for the next roll-out; and since the last one was the 21st of July, we have two more weeks till the 18th of August.

    4. Yeah, to be honest, Collection is pretty much all I've bought from JC in the last few years -- everything else is so boring. My hope is that all of the discussion in the media regarding how J.Crew is overpriced for its quality will mean prices have been adjusted downward, or at least not too much upward. A girl can dream ...

  20. Vote - which was the biggest flop of the season?

    1) the Abbott slides (print, sequin and regular)
    2) the metallic swimwear - all six pieces languishing in the 75% off section

    1. Cousy, hahaha. I do own the abbot (in black), 2 pairs and ...I like it! I got bad blisters after the first wear, but they fit me great after stretching (I have a narrow foot at 8.8-9). I would never bought them for $78, however.
As for the orange ones. Yeah, a flop.

I bought 2 JCrew swimwear in over 10 years. I simply prefer other brands, nothing against jcrew's swim per se.

    4. The biggest flop for me was the Cyprus sandals. I got the white ones on sale in the store for about $25.00. They were very slick and I figured I'd end up breaking my neck the first time I wore them, so I spent another $26.00 having non slick soles put on at the cobbler. Well.....stupid me. I wore them and sure they were not slippery, but I got huge painful blisters from *ELL on both feet. Like the worst blisters I've ever had. GRRR!!! I've only owned a couple pairs of J. Crew shoes and they have all been ill fitting, poorly made and just not worth the pain and money. Never again.

      Delete
    5. Cyprus - one of the biggest disappointment. Very pretty, hardly comfortable. Got 3 pairs very early on a great sale. Two week later returned 2 unworn pairs, and stopped obsessing about them.

Also, I noticed black and brown were hidden for a few weeks (because they were selling the best, other colors not s well). Stupid manipulations. Now my friend said she wouldn't not buy them even though she wanted it really bad (black, brown) just for that reason alone.

    6. Nothing special about J. Crew shoes. I never even look at them. Had a pair of Cece I got for 30 bucks once and they killed so they only were worn a few times.

The box was actually taped together with scotch tape not lie, not to mention it was very badly damaged with a half missing barcode. Luckily the shoes weren't damaged but it should never have been allowed to leave the store ( because no doubt that's where it came from) in that condition. 27. OT review of the new Jackie in lightweight wool (also on the JC website):
    Perfect (almost) cardigan
I own several cotton Jackies and love them so had to order these. And they don't disappoint!! Bought them in black, navy and warm sepia (more of a beautiful rust color than on the website) yesterday and already wore the black one last night when we had dinner in an overly AC-ed restaurant. I love the lightweight merino wool (14 gauge, just like the Tippi sweaters). Wool also has the advantage of the color not fading like cotton will inevitable do. I love that grosgrain ribbon is used which will ensure it will keep its shape (which is why I chose the Jackie over the Tilly). I love that I can and will wear this year round. The cardigan would have been absoloutely perfect had the buttons not been gold. I was expecting them to be the same color as the cardi, just like on the cotton Jackies. However, I'll just have them changed, so not really an issue. Runs small, just like the cotton Jackie, so I sized up.

    1. Thank you for this lovely review. I've been eyeing this new version of the Jackie for a while and will buy a few after reading your review. Yeah, the gold buttons is not the best feature, but like you said, it can be changed.

    2. carmencatalina - Not final sale, so that's good. Good luck!

    3. Yep, just regular sale - I ordered 2 sizes, because I'm sort of between sizes right now. We will see!

  29. Borderfree has started for Canadians online and I am so mad right now. We were told the prices (now in cdn $) would be in line with Canadian stores but they are not. Everything in my cart has increased in price overnight by different percentages from 20% to almost 30% increases. I saw some of these items in a Canadian store and they were not the prices now reflected online. I get that we are seeing Canadian dollars now; however, the prices are higher than Canadian store prices so the explanations we were given were untrue.
For example, the new Marble Top was $128 in a Canadian store which was still more than the $110 in U.S stores however it is now $160 online. That is ridiculous for a poly top. I can't believe this is the change we are getting.

    1. I think some items are the same pricing as Cdn stores - I have seen he textured eyelet jacquard dress and Sloan suede d'orsay flats at the exact same prices in store as now show online. They probably made mistakes on a few items.

    2. more items available on US sale site than Can. prices once you convert $$ is all depending on item. all over the place. I will be doing the Math !

    3. Wow. The price differences on some items are astounding. The double cloth lady day coat is $200.00 more on the Canadian site. Looks like my jcrew online shopping will be even less. I also noticed that there are fewer items available on the Canadian website. In particular, the US sale section currently has over 2900 items while the Canadian sale section has just over 1300 items. I am not impressed with this change at all.

    4. I know of at least 10 items that are quite a bit more than the Canadian stores so it appears they are not following the explanation that some were emailed when they asked about Borderfree before it began. We were discussing this last week on jca and I recall feeling happy about the email response some had received and posted in the thread. If anyone has the email they were sent in regards to pricing they should send it to cs for an explanation.

    5. I did a quick comparison on a few items and found the prices were in-line with what they were charging on the US side (including exchange at 25%). Looked at Bowery slims my go to pant at $110 for us and $88 for our American friends. Pretty much the same considering the ugly 25% exchange rate.

Where it was more interesting was with the shirts. A button down I'm looking at getting is $79 something US; multiply by 1.25 and it's $118 while the CDN site shows it for $116.

I really don't understand how this whole thing is going to work; or possibly not work. Does this remind anyone else of the gigantic mess they had about 7 years ago with their website? Hopefully these are growing pains only and soon all will be resolved and corrected.

I also noticed that the current style guide has no prices in it; but the US one does (along with many more pages and items we don't). Poor Canadian shoppers; we're second class again.

    6. @Shima Maceo- that is insane re: the lady day coat price difference. As for much less sale items on the Canadian site I see that some sale items in the US are now back to regular price for canada. ie 7" chino shorts are now $60 cdn for all colors but some colors are still on sale plus extra % off in the US. The sale colors were on sale for canada yesterday (I guess I should have bought then) but today all are up to full price.

    7. As a credit card holder, I received something in the mail which informed me that I will not be able to use my J Crew card for online purchases anymore! And also won't be able to use rewards cards on the Canadian site. I am not impressed. Ever since they opened stores in Canada, the online experience has gotten worse and worse IMO.

    8. The more I look at the canadian site and the price differences the angrier I am getting. The new polka dot tipi sweater is 118$ usd and the canadian website is selling it at 172$ cdn. That is almost a 50% price increase and way more than the current 25% exchange rate. Jcrew must either not care about canadian online sales or think we are pretty stupid. I will be interested to see how the online pricing compares to the in-store pricing. Jcrew is not doing themselves any favours in improving sales with this change in the Canadian website.

    9. Unless I'm off here it appears that the factory site is all in US prices.

Why would J.Crew change but leave factory the same? This things seems to get stranger and stranger.

I'm curious to hear about anyone's experience ordering now that we've switched. I am apprehensive will cautiously wait to see how this all plays out.
