This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent"
posts), where we can share our finds from other
retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew
(like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann
Taylor, and the like.)
If you
have recently encountered items that are similar to
J.Crew, maybe you might be
willing to share that information with us
in this post.
Please feel
free to share your story on almost any topic—
including experiences with certain merchandise pieces,
promotions/ offers, in-store visits,
transactions with store associates, etc.
Picked up a few things on sale recently - in January! Haven't made any February purchases. Banana was having a great sale so I got navy blue Ryan pants for $44.50 (half off!) and they nearly never have my size in stock. Also got a shoe similar to the cap toe bootie. The Sam Edelman Circus Lyndsey patent leather for $19.99 from Lord & Taylor. This will be a great sub for the J Crew cap toes, especially in nasty weather.
ReplyDeleteOh I saw those Sam Edelman boots at LT online.
ReplyDeleteBut if we think Jcrew is bad wiTh the pricing games, lord and Taylor is worse. My daughters chose boots under fifty bucks each, I forgot to order and the next day they were triple the price. You really have to be like a hawk with these pricing games.
They're not perfect, but they're a great work shoe for my little office job, KWIM?
DeleteTheir pricing is crazy, agreed. I watch it and check daily for a while if I'm interested in something. Don't give up on the boots, the prices will go back down.
My non Jcrew purchase was some faux leather pants from Nordstrom rack. I'm still waiting on one pair of HUE leggings. I ordered some unknown brand but the price sure was reasonable. Two styles in two sizes, a high rise that reminds me of 1970s satin pants and a typical five pocket jean. Not sure which I'll keep but they're fleece lined and really warm and comfortable.
ReplyDeleteI'll be the mom at the softball games in the faux leather pants. But I'll be warm. (I should try them with my Nordic boots).
I think when you're the size 0 mom, you have a little more leeway with the fashion picks! :)
DeleteI do my best!
DeleteOne of the things I appreciate most about this site is the feeling that fashion is for everyone, regardless of size. Casually microaggressive comments like yours, Cheri, do not help to promote that spirit of community.
DeletePlease don't take what Cher said out of context like that.
Delete"I think when you're the size 0 mom, you have a little more leeway with the fashion picks!" I'm puzzled by what context you think this comment belongs in. How is someone who is larger than a size 0 supposed to interpret that remark, other than as an indication that she should take fewer fashion risks? We're here to talk about clothes and creative ways to wear them, and this sort of comment shuts down that conversation for the 90-something percent of us who have a larger number on the label. Cheri may not have intended offense, but please consider impact versus intent.
DeleteNothing was meant by it. And if you've seen any JCAs on IG you know we come in all shapes and sizes. Cher and myself are both size 0 and probably take less fashion risks than JCAs of any size.
DeletePlease don't turn this into something it's not meant to be.
I understand and empathize with your impulse to defend Cheri's remark, Suz, as it was intended (however awkwardly) as a compliment to you, but please recognize that it can make anyone larger feel "less than." Please also remember that this is a public forum, and consider how this sort of exclusionary comment reads to the JCAs of "all shapes and sizes." If anybody wants to talk about what size is or is not skinny enough to wear a particular style, I would encourage them to take it into DMs.
DeleteI apologize for offending you.
DeleteWhat do you JCA's think about this Boden sale pick? Seriously tempted:

It's adorable, but final sale. Also,I feel like the vibrancy of the colors on the trim make it feel kind of cartoony, if you know what imean. It's a nice shape but you'd really need to know it will work for you.
DeleteHmmn, I like the shape for my hourglass. Not afraid of bright clashy colors. You should see my "Laugh IN" orange and pink floral swing dress! Will sleep on it. Not a fan of final sale.
