This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.
If
you have recently experienced a
frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe
you might be willing to share that
information with us in this post.
Please
feel free to share your story on almost
any topic— including poor experiences with
purchases & orders, promotions/ offers,
in-store visits, transactions with store
associates, etc.
Dear J.Crew, You closed my local store in November. Why do your emails still say “Check our the latest and greatest in your store” and show me its location on a map? It’s gone, it’s gone.
ReplyDeleteshopgrrrl - it takes them a LONG time to remove the closed stores. Back when my local store closed, there was still a monthly catalog. The back of the catalog would say to visit the store and listed my town. This went on for months and it made me so mad!!!
ReplyDeleteNot to be outdone, Gap Factory just sent me an “Opening Near You” email for a store a mere 4000 km away. Good job, Gap, you found Canada on the map! But it’s a biiiiiiiiiiig country, and not all cities are “near” each other.
DeleteI saw the Downtown Field Jacket in the Sale section this morning. Not sure if it’s a new addition, but I haven’t noticed it there before. Some of you may have seen this ode to the jacket before, but I coincidentally stumbled upon it a few days ago:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.thecut.com/2016/11/why-its-okay-that-everyone-owns-the-j-crew-field-jacket.html
It was there before, but not in the brown color. I actually do not own one, and I did consider it during the 60% off sale sale, but I've got a favorite camo-ish jacket that fulfills the same purpose.
DeleteI saw the Liberty quilted downtown field jacket this morning, but no additional 30% off. I also don't own one though I saw it often in the sale section in various colors for many seasons (navy, olive, etc). I have two Penfield parkas that are similar in style and have hoods and are longer in length, which I prefer. But I do really like the Liberty quilted version and would consider if it's on sale for more.
DeleteI've bought and sold several. My dark gray one was just about the same color as the current one. I sold it when I got a black one which I didn't love. Sold that when I got the olive/fatigue uncoated one. I still think my first was my favorite!
DeleteI have the Factory version in Mossy Brown and an orangey color. I’ve always liked the look of the coat but wasn’t sure if it’s usefulness. The orange one proved very useful as my only jacket during an extended trip in mostly dry spring weather last year (the pockets are the perfect size for a passport and cell phone). I haven’t worn the mossy brown as I find once I’m in the mood for darker colors, i often need a warmer and/or more waterproof jacket.
DeleteI have two that I still wear (navy and uncoated olive), and have sold two others (black and a bisque/off white color I never wore). It’s just a simple, well-made, quintessential if a bit boring classic. I view them like a jean jacket - never really in style and never really out, not very warm but appropriate over most everything. The two I’ve kept have survived multiple closet purges so far.
DeleteI really dislike that The Cut now has a limit per month.
ReplyDeleteI admit I just looked it up.
DeleteI used to visit the site daily so it is a bummer for me, but I'm not willing to pay for content.
DeleteHi all! I have had a bunch of insta follow requests. Some I have accepted because I can tell they're JCAs (I hope!) based on who else they follow, but I still can't match people up to who they are here and I need to keep it private. Can you help a woman out and DM or let me know your handle?
ReplyDeleteOT but it’s pretty quiet here today....I’m thinking about having the hem let down in a few of my dresses. I’m
ReplyDelete5’9” and feel better with a bit more coverage these days. All of the dresses only have a hem of 1.5-2”, so it will need to be a false hem where the seamstress adds some bias tape to get maximim length. Has anyone had this done with skirts or dresses, and if so, were you happy with the results?
It should work, but will not be inexpensive - I'd guess at least $20-$30 per dress. So I'd only go there if I really loved the dress and disliked the length. If you have a lot you might negotiate a better rate, don't be afraid to ask. T
DeleteThen there is the pesky matter of the hem crease. If you sort of pull the very bottom of the hem out from the inside and outside you can usually get a peek at how faded or worn the edge of the hem has grown. This will be on the outside when you lengthen the dress. A crease can be steamed out, but wear marks will not vanish. This may be most evident on a velvet or corduroy for example.
Thanks for your thoughts! I haven’t asked about cost yet, but you’re right, it might be prohibitive.
DeleteThis is probably a unpopular opinion. I REALLY MISS J.CREW BEING ON THE RUNWAY TO SHOW OFF THERE COLLECTION FOR SPRING/SUMMER OR FALL/WINTER!

Me too, better looking models as well:)
DeleteOT... home because weather, worked on closet archaeology... found cropped black tweed lady jacket, F 9995. Still love it, it hangs a little differently than it did a few pounds ago and the way the neckline sits now, the jacket needs a lower crew neck or a boatneck top under it. Suggestions? Please?
ReplyDeletewellfedfred, I wear cashmere featherweight tees under mine and purchased a sleeveless top item K2642. It is in a poly which I’m not crazy about but looks very nice underneath. They come in a variety of colors and the white has a contrast navy band around the neck. I jazz things up with silk scarfs depending on the look I want to achieve.

ReplyDeleteNo more Drakes I was told the other day by VPS. How infuriating! I can’t believe they would kill this line.
ReplyDeleteNoticed a hole/tear right in the front of my beloved forest green Tippi sweater. I've had it for a few years so maybe it's to be expected. Might attempt a small repair if I can find matching thread, since JCrew doesn't sell this color anymore
