JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Those of you who saw my post seeking advice yesterday and the responses it generated may find this funny.

This Fashionista article proclaims the glitter Mary Jane's the perfect shoe:-)

    1. Ha! So Suz Has and pbanos are fashionistas? Are you keeping them now Toronto? I still say wear what you enjoy!

    2. Oh that's really funny and KIND OF BIZARRE.

    3. If you still have doubts put some outfits together and take pics with your phones self timer. To me that's how I gauge what works or not.

    4. Don’t be like me, who returned the snakeskin boots in a moment of I-don’t-need-another-pair-of-shoes-to-wear-with-boyfriend-jeans weakness, and then stalked for a replacement like I’ve never stalked!
How much longer of a return period do you have to consider?

    5. I don't want to spend your money but...

I have the Gemma flats in the gold/silver glitter... I don't wear them often but when I do, I always do a little internal "ohhhh princess shoes" gasp. If you like them, you won't regret buying them.

    6. @TorontoModern, clickbait article. Sorry girls, I still don’t like the style or the type of metal used for the buckle. Go with a pointed toe, will be more edgy and sophisticated. Just my humble opinion and no offense intended towards Suz or p banos and others here who are brave enough to comment, true fashionistas.

    7. Absolutely no offense taken, Lynn. We are all here for fun and community, not to dissect what someone else says and get offended! I vary between loving a rounded toe flat and not, but I do like the little heel (on that, like the Kiki) over the embellished glitter totally flat pointy toe ones I got last year.

    8. Lynn if it makes you feel any better, they are not my cup of tea either...I'm sorry Toronto!!! We are in the minority.

    2. I keep going back to that also, and agree with your size small assessment.

    3. I saw a grey small at Rockefeller’s on Monday.... it was too big for me....
Still hoping it will pop up....

  3. Inspired by the Tom For runway last night and decided to rock a velvet blazer today. It's a schoolboy from 2010 I bought as one of my very first purchases on the JCA exchange yeaaaaars ago! Decided to wear a cashmere hoodie underneath, jeans, and a pair of lovely leather boots I bought in Paris on my honeymoon. Happy day :-)

    3. Thank you Kate and Miss JR. I may just settle for my XXS which fits, but just a smidge tighter than I'd like. I'd hate to buy it from ebay for 5x the amount I paid during the sale!

  5. Did we ever figure out the mystery of the vanishing sale section? I know some JCAs are trying NSF but I love hunting for gems and miss the big updates!

    1. Anthro, I am with you and I was just wondering this morning where we (JCAs) stood on that mystery!

    2. Nordstrom rack has some stuff but it's more $$$ than our sixty percent off sale.

    3. NR was the first place I looked when it disappeared. I even went on the TJ Maxx website and looked.

    4. perhaps they destroyed all of it? A lot of retailers do it. Even fashion giants like H&M burn tons of clothes every year.

      Delete
    5. Oh I hope not, that seems so wasteful

      Delete
    6. That would be too weird, since some of the items were very nice and quite recent - thinking about the winter parkas and the wide wale corduroy blazers/pants...and so on.

      Delete
    7. Hopefully they just took it offline temporarily

      Delete
    8. H&M and Burberry got in trouble for doing that, if my memory serves me correctly.

I too, think/hope it may be temporary. Get returns processed, check stock, and go from there. It was obviously very difficult for them to maintain accuracy.

  7. JCA Friends, I have some sad news to share. Our dear friend Ina lost her husband this week so she's going to take a little break from JCA. Ina told me she has lots of friends and a wonderful support system but it's going to take time for her to adjust to her new normal. ❤️

  10. @Suz, Tragic news. I feel so bad that I didn’t have the chance to meet her when I was in Atlanta last weekend. Is there a way to send flowers or perhaps make a donation to an organization in her husbands name? Do anything for that matter. I didn’t know her but I would like to pay my respects in some way even if only through her being affiliated with Jcrew and a poster here. My heart aches for her and her family. Thank you.

    1. I asked if there was a thing we could do but I'll make a specific request without being overbearing and see if there's anything we could do to honor his memory.

    2. Thank you Suz, if there is an obituary link many times a family will state this publicly. I did this when my husband and little boy passed away as well as for my parents who passed away last year within months. It may not matter now of course, but as time passes we (the family) learn how much people really cared enough to do something and it means an awful lot down the road. Let this be a reminder to everyone life is so very short and cherish evrone around you. Family is everything as well all know. Xx

    3. I haven’t seen an official obituary. If I do I’ll ask Ina if it’s ok to share the information. She is fairly private.

  14. Dear Ina, your family are in my thoughts. I lost my father a year and a half ago, and my mom and I still grieve and are nearly near getting used to our new normal. Please know you also have a support system here, and if you need more, bereavement counseling was very helpful for me and can help keep the world from getting too dark.
