J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I ordered the red Evie flats last week. They are a beautiful true red. They are more narrow and long that the pairs I bought earlier in the year (silver, gold, and blush) so they don’t work for me but they may be what some of you ladies are looking for!

  2. Some good prices this morning. Because I love my leopard pair so much, I ordered the striped coras for $19.99. Was too slow to snag the fuchsia. Also got the double strap leather slides in faux-snakeskin, which are beautiful in person, and the "bonjour sailor" sweatshirt for my three nieces who are visiting from out of state.

    2. So did I! I have a weakness for jcrew fall clothes.

  4. I received my third pair of the 2011 Foundry pants in olive. Based on the reviews I had ordered a size up (6) and my regular 4. The 4s are loose, but in a nice way. With the substantial cotton, they do not droop. The 2s actually fit better in the waist and hips, but are too short to allow un-cuffed wear. So the 4s win out! I really like the old-school feel of the fabric. My husband did not care for them, but he is overridden this time.

  5. Hi JCA's - review extravaganza! Blogger's making me break it into 2 parts...

Ribbed long cardigan sweater (J6308) - Surprised and pleased to see a 100% cotton sweater, and I can never say no to navy. TTS in my usual S, I think this has a slight cocoon shape and you could size down depending on how you want it to look. I prefer it to fit more like a sweater coat (although it’s not thick enough to be a real one). Wish it had pockets, but overall I like this piece.

Slub cotton cardigan (J1506) - Slouchy, oversized, nice drape - the drape makes the dropped shoulders not as noticeable. I sized down per the lone online review at the time and it was the right call; my regular size would’ve been too sloppy. However, the poly in the fabric gives it that nubby feeling and to be honest, I feel like I could’ve gotten this in the Gilligan & O’Malley line at Target for $16.99 - it was that cheaply made. I think it may fall apart in the wash. There was a long scrap of fabric in one of the pockets. I was hoping for a throwback to the Always cardigan from a few years ago.

JCrew 365 stretch shawl cardigan (J7989) - I thought this might be a good replacement for the Always cardigans from past years (yes, at this point I should probably just go to PM/eBay). Material is stretchy but thin - the shawl collar/front placket and cuffs are double layered but everything else is a single layer, which I found kind of odd. It felt quite boxy in a S - the bottom kind of stuck out away from the body, but not in a flowy way. The sleeves are also kind of dolman, which added to the strange shape. Maybe an XS would’ve been a better fit, but I didn’t love it enough to try for an exchange.

Swingy long-sleeve dress in stripe (H7782) - Thick fabric, nice idea - but in my S, I could barely get it over my head and the shoulder seams fell closer to my neck than my shoulders. The body of the dress is bell-shaped, so if I sized up to get the chest/shoulder fit right, the skirt portion would be way too big. Stretchy, but I forgot to check the fabric content (no mention of it online) because I was packing it up right away to send back.

5” stretch chino short (H5807) - These feel like the perfect length for me at 5’5”. I’ve put off wearing shorts for years because the 3” inseams were too short and the bermudas sometimes felt too long. I wish that these were available in a khaki or black - I tried the Factory 5” but the fabric wasn’t as nice.

Tie-waist shirtdress in cotton poplin (J5358) - I like this, but the sizing is too small. My usual 4 could barely button at the bust and the waist button felt like it was going to pop. Ugh! Otherwise, the fabric was nice and it wasn’t too long (a little past my knees).

    1. JC x Abigail Borg embroidered T-shirt (J3973) - Size S fit, but felt a little short/boxy. Sleeves are 3/4 length on me. The cotton was quite thin, and I think I would’ve liked it better if it were a little longer with some more substantial fabric because the embroidery was cute. Not worth FP - I caught it on the magic hour and still didn’t think it was worth $31.

JC x Abigail Borg coated canvas tote - I didn’t pay attention to the measurements, and didn’t love that it’s a bit wider than it is tall. Not my favorite bag shape. The colors were more vibrant on the website, and I wish that it had at least an interior pocket. I liked the shape and print AB reusable tote (J8271) better.

Perfect rain jacket (H8701) - Felt too big in S, but mainly under the arms and the hip area. Sizing down per the reviews would help. Sleeves are definitely short, but I’m used to that anyway (my arm-span is 6” wider than I am tall, eek!). Would like to try the XS, but am kind of put off by the reviews that say this jacket is in no way water-resistant. Anybody own this and can speak to its usefulness as a raincoat?

So the final tally is - keeping the shorts, long ribbed cardigan, and AB tote. Exchanging the tie-waist shirtdress and maybe the rain jacket. Overall, I’m seeing more styles that I like than in past seasons, but the sizing/fit still needs work. I feel like I should’ve ordered 2 sizes of everything that I tried, which I would’ve done if returns were free since I no longer have a B&M to return to. I really wish that they’d consider this as part of their loyalty program.

    2. I own perfect rain jacket in pink and wore it several times on rainy days and also for boating on a windy day. I was perfectly dry under the jacket. I wish hood was a bit bigger.

  6. Styling the distressed chewed hems denim on the blog today for a beach side look. They run large, I went down one size from my usual.

  7. Purchased the Factory Anya Flats in English Grey. The color is beautiful, but the fit is only tolerable. As so often noted these are certainly not the Cece which is beautiful and comfortable, and I can wear all day. I have a few Anyas when a needed color pops up, but alas these are just OK. I sized up 1/2 size, which is a must. The elastic in the toe area is tight, but it wasn't as bad as the last pair, so that's good. However, I did get a heel blister after two hours of wear. I think the difference is the quality and softness of the material. The heel area is so much stiffer than my Cece. The quality of the leather and synthetic liner is just thicker and not as soft. That said, I do hope they will soften with a few wears, but for now I will arm myself with band aids. Verdict: If you like the color buy them, but don't pay very much. They are cute, and these aren't too tight, and I do hope they will soften and I'll be able to wear them to work.
My Wish: J Crew would make a better quality shoe, that I would pay more for because I know it will last and be a comfortable all day shoe.

    1. Yes let’s file a change.org petition to bring back Cece! Not 🙃

  8. The buckled gladiator sandals in rose gold got another price cut to $35. These are easiest one of my favorite summer purchases (although I wish I had paid this price for them!) That aside - I found them to be TTS - the ankle strap could stand to have one more hole and occasionally I have to twirl the strap around but overall they don't rub at all and are extremely comfortable. Definitely a great price right now!
