Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. A few new items were added to sale last night, as mentioned in yesterday's thread. I waited to see if the promo changed and sadly, it did not, but I ordered a few things to try since they're not final sale. I liked the gingham pull on shorts with eyelet trim and the belted army ish jacket that's similar to the tan one with fur collar that was a steal this winter. Really nothing too exciting.

    1. I’m hoping the promo is different in store since SA said it would end yesterday. I really only care about an extra % off sale. I’m going to get a few PAs anyway because of new markdowns, but %off would make it even better.

    2. Stopped in for a couple of returns and SA indicated promo was extended through the weekend, ugggh, and new roll out is Monday.

  2. I keep ordering things and then they don't work out so I have to do another return... and I get another gift card that I can't seem to get rid of.

  3. I've got a few returns to make but not much else in sight for a special trip. I have been reading several stories about stores watching returns more closely and names being put on a no-returns list. I wonder if stores take into consideration purchases made in store vs. on-line...
I am certain to be on top of the JC list for returns. And NM, too! Hummmmm

    2. NPR had a story the other day along this line. Some stores are partnering with 3rd party (The Retail Equation) to approve/deny returns - it's very interesting to read about and I wonder if JC will do something like this.

I had a run-in with this 3rd party in February - I returned a new, sealed item with receipt to a Sephora inside a JCP. Because they didn't sell the item at that location, the associate forced my return through the computer as "without a receipt" and then gave me a printout from the Retail Equation with a "warning" that I couldn't return without a receipt (even though I presented one) for 60 days. Once I started reading about it, I found a lot of angry Sephora customers running into the same issue at Sephora inside JCP.

I can see why stores would want to do this - they could just place the blame on the Retail Equation if they want to deny a customer's return, and apparently they're impossible to get a hold of if you have an issue. I don't know how much this will help retailers in the long term - scammers will probably still find a way to scam, and customers with a legit return will get burned and probably end up shopping elsewhere.

    3. Yes! I've been banned from returning anything to Sephora for 1 year! It's ridiculous because Sephora encourages you to buy and try, and then they don't tell you about this secret policy about returning too much. I think it has to do with the ratio of how much you spend and how much you return. I tend to buy skincare products which are very pricey, so apparently I reached their return limit very quickly. But skincare is one of those categories that you have to use a few times before you know how your skin reacts. I've only ever returned things that gave me serious allergic reactions. Ever since I got the receipt saying I can't make any returns anymore, I stopped shopping at Sephora and now I buy my skincare from Amazon or Ulta.

    4. This is the CRAZIEST thing! I have never heard of it but will be alert now! But @eeps - I'm sure you're aware, but if not, if you are purchasing from Amazon make sure it's through a reputable seller and not a third party, there's a lot of dangerous cosmetics fraud that can happen on Amazon because of the way listings can show up. Just keep an eye out to make sure you aren't getting a fraudulent product that could be bad for your skin!

    5. @Malvina - oh yes, I know. I always go through the reviews if I can't buy directly. I've seen all sorts of reviews about expired produucts or opened ones!

    6. It isn't fair for petites or talls where I am because they do not carry these sizes in-store, and their in-store selection is limited compared to the web offerings.

For the first time ever I received an item in the mail recently that felt like it had been worn (not simply just tried on) with tags still attached. I probably should have told the person that handled my return but I really don't think it should be on the customer to report that kind of thing. I was on the fence as to if I should keep that item or not, and the fact that it felt worn sealed the deal for returning. I get that putting the tag in a conspicuous place on the outside of the garment doesn't look great at all, but I do think it would help to deter this kind of wear-return activity.

  4. Question: what are your experiences about selling at poshmark? Is it a lot of work? Is it worth it?
I have so much stuff and need to get rid of some of it.
    TIA for your help

    1. I sell on it. It is very easy. But it is hard to sell most things. It takes a long time and people low ball constantly. That said, I have sold an ok amount of stuff. It is the best online site to use in my opinion because it is easiest. I think it is worth doing but if you live too far from a post office then you may not like it.

    2. Hi Ina - I sold on eBay for years and had pretty good luck with it. Personally, I never bothered with Poshmark because of the higher fees and some of the horror stories I read about on their Reddit (granted, this is probably mostly horror stories that may not be the norm). At least on eBay, I didn't have to deal with lowballers. I think with eBay, there's a bit of work up front with taking pictures and writing descriptions but once your item is up you don't really have to do anything.

      Delete
    3. Ina- I have also used eBay for years with success. Sometimes it does take an item a while to sell but the fees are reasonable and once you list a few items you can follow the same template. Even though I don’t use the make an offer button, every once in a while I get someone contacting me with a low ball offer but it is few and far between.

    5. I have sold quite a bit on eBay, Poshmark and Tradesy. Each platform has its pros and cons. I agree that Poshmark is the easiest in terms of getting listings up, but once you get the listings up you have to spend a lot of time building a network to get exposure for your items, and the lowballers on there are horrible. A lot of people on Posh are professional thrift store flipper so they get stuff for $1-$4, sell at like $10 and then people expect that you should sell your nice stuff to them at that price too. No need to deal with that on eBay or Tradesy. eBay takes the lowest fees. Tradesy accepts returns on items on your behalf so people who are concerned about fit can still order and return and you still get paid out for the sale as long as you accurately described the item in your listing. The downside of tradesy is they take the highest % (23% if you cash out) and their customer service is difficult to get a hold of if you need it. The timeline to get your money out is also much longer than the other sites.

      Delete
    6. Also to add, Poshmark markets to broke college students, which makes the lowballing worse, whereas Tradesy markets to higher-end designer lovers. On eBay you get the full spectrum of people.

    8. I do not agree that Poshmark markets to college students. I have dealt with only one college student since being on there. It has no more college students than any other second hand site. Lowballers are all ages. I get older women lowballing me.

      Delete
    9. True lowballers are all ages, but Posh has a "campus rep" program specifically to target and recruit college students onto their platform. They don't really promote using the platform to find higher end items the way tradesy does.

I might start selling on my IG first and then go to ebay as poshmark doesnt sound like a great place to sell.
I ordered two “vintage” jcrew bracelets (pearl dangle and a charm bracelet with marine charms) from poshmark.

  5. There are a few new things in the early access link:

And a few new things over at Nordstrom (including a cute silk skirt that I think I’m going to try).

    4. Thank you Julie Taylor for mentioning the 1901 line. I had not seen that yet, and may head over to Nordstrom this weekend to check some of the pieces out! I agree it definitely seems to have a J Crew esthetic.

    5. I saw 1901 the other day and had the same thought as Julie about it looking like old school J. Crew. I have great hopes that it will evolve. It's funny--I walked through Dillards the other day after buying make-up and thought, "What are all of these brands?" I recognized Ralph Lauren and Jones New York, but the rest were a mystery. I wondered if I'm missing some great clothes but when I got up close to things that looked interesting I saw they were made of cheap synthetics, so I walked away. Still, I wonder, are there department store brands out there I should be paying attention to? When I was younger I shopped mostly what were called bridge lines. I think those have mostly disappeared since they occupied the middle of the quality-price range.

    6. Some interesting pieces but a whole lot of ruffles going on, I'll keep my eye on the line though.

    7. Speaking of other brands. I've been smitten with Sonnet James for a couple of years now, esp the "Reese" dress (I have it in 4-5 colors). It reminds me of classic J.Crew. The quality is terrific and it's made in the USA (company was founded by a single mother of two young boys). In addition to the Reese Dress, I have the Scout in a few colors too.

  7. No visit planned but I did finally order a few items with the code including a few new arrivals. I had some rewards to spend. I bought the white open front blazer, the sleeveless peplum tie top (new) and another Rue Saint Honore tee since I shrunk my old one. We'll see if the button fly light jeans are better than the regular fly ones - I didn't like the way my legs looked in those (I may need to stick to BF fit for lighter wash jeans but we'll see).

  11. The early access link has been updated with some more stuff, including a bunch of new sunglasses that are about half the price of the older ones. It's odd to see their new "budget" stuff (like the Playa swim) next to their older/more expensive stuff - are we supposed to think that the new sunglasses are lesser quality? Or that the Sam/Betty sunglasses are the same quality but just very overpriced?

    /Saturday AM musings

    Replies
    1. To be honest, I thought the Sam/Betty sunglasses were extremely overpriced for the quality. I can't imagine how bad these new ones must be if they are half the price.

And that Playa swim is just...so bad. I don't think I was flat-chested enough to wear J0265 even when I was in junior high.

J.Crew is really confusing me with their strategy of offering extended sizes and larger models, but then producing a swim line that no one over an A cup can wear without looking obscene.

    2. These new items are really bad. The whole page looks like something out of a beach catalogue, and even the beachy items aren't that appealing. One thing J. Crew has done better than others is creating elegant sleeveless or short-sleeved spring/summer tops; there are no tops like that on this page. Maybe there will be other new arrivals coming out next week that aren't posted yet, but I'm not holding my breath.

    6. Does the world really need an additional 4 versions of the cape-scarf thing in the new spring arrivals? Are we wearing those over the 2-inch triangle bikinis?

I just read an article about LEs second profitable quarter in a row, up 26% and demonstrating a solid turnaround, due to a renewed focus on listening to their core customer. What a concept, J Crew.

    7. Ugh. Such a disconnect with the new stuff. Agree with everyone here-cape in spring?

    1. I am usually a size 6 top/ size 4 bottom and wear either small or medium in dresses. In this dress the small fit me. Actually I ordered both small and medium, then returned them as too short. A few days ago I went and re-ordered the small. I will just have to wear with tights or leggings. I'm tall-ish at 5'7" , maybe the length would be better on petites.

    2. I’m usually a 2/S and got this in a S. It felt like a oversized nightgown and i could have for an XS. I’m 5’1 and this felt exactly long enough for me, maybe not to wear to work (Corporate environment) though. It just didn’t do much for my shape - a bit young; no pockets; and gets very staticky. Reminds me of Madewell dresses, which always photograph well but don’t wear well. I will be returning.

  14. Went to see the Downtown Abbey Exhibition yesterday in NYC. We had some time between lunch and our timed ticket so wandered the shops at Columbus Circle. The J Crew and Madewell there are quite nice - on two floors with an interior stairwell connecting them. It was nice to see a few things I've been eyeing. The "Il Fait Beau" tee is pretty in person and a nice cotton. The cropped short cardigan is cute - feels a little off not being all cotton but will give it a better try when it arrives in an order tomorrow. They had a suiting section and the items there were nicely presented. I wish I'd had a bit more time to look around. I do have to say that if you omit the suiting, the madewell and jcrew styling didn't look a whole lot different, at least as relates to casual and jeans.

    1. Sad. I received the email, too. There’s absolutely nothing I’m liking from this roll-out. Except for the 🍋 skirt and jacket..both styles are nice but it’s not really my style. The new stuff is all over the place. No cohesion.

    2. Yet again no email for me. They don’t seem to want my money which is fine as I only put the striped shirt dress on my wish list. I do like the lemon items JSR but first off they are all poly and secondarily the jacket and skirt are on line only and the dress is select stores. This print would be a home run if carried in stores and in a different fabric. I miss the old crew.

    3. I got the email - there are 4 full-price items that kind of interest me. All 4 are exempt from the promo.

    4. I bit on the long sleeved black and white striped knit dress with 40% off. I'd have preferred navy, but I'm hoping this will be a good classic dress for spring and fall and it's definitely not too short for 5'4" me.

  16. I ordered a few bathing suits this weekend to see how they fit and it will encourage me to get swimsuit fit for the summer. Also ordered a pair of pants. Nothing at all in the new rollout excites me in any way. Very sad. I can't recall not loving spring and summer clothes from J Crew.

  17. Stopped by my store to make returns today. At least four associates and no shoppers. They put all the stripes in the window (I’m guessing for stripe day this week) and plastered “For real For now For ever” on the glass.

Maybe the retail/business experts can answer this question... can they not pull all of the unsold stuff that’s been sitting for months and donate it? Would there be any repercussions besides the loss of revenue off of them? Thinking that this would lighten the store somewhat or at least mine...
