Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I visited my store yesterday to return two pairs of party pj pants. Sale section was pretty full. I grabbed a gorgeous, familiar looking sweater I hadn't seen this season in my size, hand kinit Nordic sweater that was marked down to $129.99 ever the additional percentage off was, I think 40% in store. I checked the tag and it was from holiday 2015. Gorgeous but still expensive for a sweater that's been sitting around a year, who knows where! (To be honest I did have to stop myself from getting it because it was so cold and the sweater looked so warm and cozy.)

    1. In addition I stopped into Madewell to see their sale section since it was 30% off online. Same discount in store and they didn't have any of the sweaters I was interested in. I wanted to try the Inland Turtleneck which Ina tried on weeks and weeks ago. Then when I left the store it was no longer available in the size Small online. I waited and there it was this morning, along with two others I wanted to try. One final sale, one not.

    2. Yes! I decided the Small was a safer bet than the XS. also ordered the
Cableknit Shirttail Turtleneck Sweater which looks warm and cozy and Lace-Up Pullover Sweater in Heather gray in two sizes to try. (Not final sale.)

    3. Did you end up keeping a pair of the party pj pants? I remember you said you ordered multiple sizes.

    4. Ugh, I've been trying to catch the cable knit turtleneck sweater at Madewell forever! Sounds like I missed out again!

      Delete
    5. @maqsad they only had a small in the cable knit shirttail turtleneck. I'd bet you would want the XS.

@shoppingcelle, I returned both party PJ pants. I love the concept but the rise didn't work for me. I think Im going to keep the paper bag waist pants. They're more flattering but still comfortable.

    6. I just got the Madewell cable knit sweater. I love it. I got my usual size small and I love the fit. However, if you're into oversized looks, you could go up a size and probably be ok. I love the shirttail hem. I can do a half tuck and it looks great. Keep trying @maqsad!

      Delete
    7. How is the length in the front, hard to tell. I vary between XS and S In sweaters but often size up for length and I find many Madewell sweaters to be boxy. I hope it works for me.

    8. I'm 5'6, longish torso. I could tuck just enough into my waistband to look cool, not lumpy. The one thing I will say is that the slit on the sides comes up a little high. It doesn't bother me and with high waist jeans or a layer underneath it's a non issue. The back comes down over my rear and flows nicely. As I live in northern New England, I see this sweater as a classic in my wardrobe. Hope you like it as much!

    9. I'm exactly the same, 5'6" with a long torso. I'd definitely layer under it, (either a long sleeve tee if it's itchy, or at least a tank) so I'm not worried about the side slits. Yay, I'm excited.

  2. Just planning to stop by a store to return the Microgingham popover in Golden Sunset. I have this top in another color, but this one seems to fit differently. It's enormous, for starters, especially at the hem circumference. Also, the color is nice but the fabric is rather sheer. Just ill-fitting and a disappointment altogether.

  3. I'm going to swing by my local J. Crew Mercantile. Somebody posted a really cute pair of shoes on Instagram with pom poms that I don't see online and I might need them in my life. I'm debating ordering the ruffle chambray pants (nearest retail store is over 2 hours away), but think I'm going to wait it out to see if I get a coupon or rewards card for my birthday. No real need for them this instant since spring is still a ways off.

    1. What did the pompom shoes look like? Maybe someone here can identify for you.

      Delete
    2. If you search #jcrewfactory on Instagram they are one of the first 10-15 photos. They are a closed toe taupe and black (maybe suede?) shoe with a black fringe-y pom pom in a style similar to the black, red, and blue sandals retail is offering now. The owner of the account was super helpful and said they are a recent Factory offering, but my store did not have them (and honestly couldn't believe they were not retail) and they aren't online yet. If anyone knows anything about them or sees them in person, I'd love to know your thoughts!

    3. Those are so cute!!! Hope you don't mind me sharing -- here's a link to the Instagram post.

    4. Ok, I went to look and they actually look like a shoe Jcrew retail offered last spring (similar to the sandals they are offering now). I called my local store because I was curious but they don't have them either. Maybe they will get them in more stores/online soon.

      Delete
    5. I'm headed to factory in the morning so I'll check. They are super cute!

    6. The style # for the retail shoes I was referring to above is E7233.

    7. I stopped by factory this morning and couldn't find those flats. Maybe they'll be online soon?

      Delete
    8. Thanks for your input and help everyone! I'll just be stalking the Factory website and will let you know if they show up. My local Mercantile said they were getting new merchandise at the end of the month, so maybe they'll be in then.

  4. So how does one wear paint splatter without looking like a try hard? I get maybe a dot here or there like it's an old favorite but I look at these pieces doused in paint and yet they sell out? Where does "old favorite" end and "affected to the point of silliness" begin?

    1. I'm wondering whether those shirts have REALLY sold out or whether this isn't another of J Crew's infamous website glitches, where a newly debuted item shows as sold out overnight (it happened with the Oxford coat in the fall). Anyways, I most definitely couldn't pull off that shirt (nor would I want to, it's simply not me). But yeah, I agree, a bit too much of a 'look'.

      Delete
    2. I agree, TM93. Doubtful the paint splatter is sold out. I wonder if JCrew wants the collection to be perceived as "scarce" and therefore more special. It will update w inventory I think..

It's not for me and I can't imagine styling it for myself without looking like a fashion victim. What bums me out is that it is so prominent and overwhelming in the Style Guide - so much energy on such a "niche" when customers are begging for high-quality, modern basics and lovely Spring prints. I'm also not sure how "on trend" it is in 2017 as I haven't seen it elsewhere. Fashion-forward JCAs, is it a trend?

      Delete
    3. I'm no fashion forward JCA, but I'm going to answer anyway. To each her own, but the paint splatter items just don't do it for me. I do have one paint splatter item, circa 1986, made by yours truly. I keep it for nostalgic reasons (I made various items for myself and my friends for a year or two, even had my own labels made up), though it's been limited to undershirt/pajama status for at least the past 20 years. I also keep it to remind myself to shop carefully, things last a long, long time.

      Delete
    4. I have a pair of 100% cotton ones that I picked up from Banana Republic circa '05 - '08. I can't remember exactly when but it's a time when everyone and their mom was going for the premium denim market. It's surprisingly well done and great quality. The denim is medium wash with strategic fading and sparse ecru color paint splatters, like I was painting my living in my most comfortable well worn pair. Somehow, when I pair it with a nice blazer and clean tee it still looks totally put together and non pretentious.

That was my roundabout way of saying that I won't be participating in this new round of paint splattered offerings. When it comes to fading and paint splatter, I think less is more.

      Delete
    5. Ruffles, Doc Martens has a new "paint spattered" line, but that's the only other place I've seen it. No, I don't care for this look, either.

      Delete
    6. Maybe for the painting contractor who's interviewing for a job? ;)

    7. Sounds like a cute outfit, D*ksa!

      Delete
    8. @ruffles- Anthropologie has some paint splatter items currently too. They are also not being received well from what I have read. This is a trend I cannot get into. If I want painted splattered clothes I will pull out the grungy stuff I wear when I actually paint around my house.

      Delete
    9. My parents, striving for middle-class respectability, viewed clothes with holes or spatters as not only bad taste but bad manners. My views aren't quite so rigid, but I simply don't understand why anyone would wear torn or spattered clothing without having earned those marks through, you know, actual wear or work.

      Delete
    10. Well, Zara in Dubai had lots of paint splattered tops for 75% off. Even for $8, it was a pass. If fast fashion can't pull it off, not sure how it will work. Will be interested to see how it works out for J Crew and others.

      Delete
    11. Ralph Lauren has some grey denim jeans that have just a few spots of paint and that looks kind of cute but we're talking a few spots. What I see with the JC paint splatter items is so much paint that most people would toss the clothing item as ruined. I don't mind small distressing, but if there's bare threads, I buy iron-on tape in a matching color and put it on the underside. If it's a hole, I don't buy it at all. That paint splatter fatigue shirt looks like the fabric is less substantial than the paint on it, so it's like that voile fabric with heavy paint; just odd to me.

  5. OT - I talked to my VPS today and that position has been eliminated in stores. He was given 3 days to decide whether he wanted to stay without commission and promise of regular hours or take a severance package - he took the severance. I'm so disappointed. I know that my local JC will lose sales because of this (he sold over a million dollars worth two years in a row). I bought from JC often because of him, so less money from me to JC.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Without regular hours? Gee, even Walmart is rolling out a "fixed shift" system...

      Delete
    2. Same thing happened to my VPS at Lake Forest. She took the regular SA position in January. I haven't made a purchase (ban) but when I have visited the store I felt bad. I wondered if she is going to be stuck giving the same (awesome) service to her regulars sans commission. But maybe that's the idea : /

      Delete
    3. My Vps decided to leave the company. I have been shopping with her for years and always trusted her to give me an honest opinion. Luckily I was picking up the Liberty trim lady jacket right before she left so I got the chance to say goodbye. A sad day indeed.

      Delete
    4. Wow, really incredible. I had no idea they got rid of the VPS! I think JC is really going under.

      Delete
    5. I think they are trying to save themselves, they need to cut some costs and pay their huge debts. While I did have an amazing vps in the past I think that as long as a store has good associates we can get opinions and styling ideas from them. the store closest to me is helpful with finding items if they're out of stock and with styling advice. I think that sadly a vps program is just too costly in today's climate of shoppers wanting sales. Years ago Jcrew rarely gave big discounts but now that's the environment.

      Delete
    6. @Jan, those are really good observations and I bet you're right. I've wondered in the past whether it's only a matter of time before stores end up closing altogether - sincerely hope not - but with rental costs for some of the store fronts and real estate markets being what they are, I do wonder if that's an eventual step. I like going to my store to see colors and patterns IRL and to interact with many wonderful SAs, but I don't actually buy many things there as most things that I'm interested in are in Petite or Online only. This is all, of course, wild speculation on my part, and those familiar with bankruptcy or financial loss prevention will have a better idea than I do. The last few purchases I've made in-store were for a Perfect tee and some sale items back in December.

    7. Hi TM93 - the SA's at my (now closed) B&M mentioned that they would often sell out of certain items very quickly and never get replenished. They also complained that JC moving the "basics" (like Jackies) and suiting to online-only really hurt their sales. Their base was mainly women shopping for wear-to-work clothes. The SA's complained but nothing changed... so we know the not listening to feedback isn't limited to customers. :|

Meanwhile, their sale section would be overflowing with 6+ month old merchandise - when they closed in mid-January, they had a rack with about 30 pairs of those green Rory pants (F1589) and a wall of neon tees from summer.

Math teacher, I'm sorry to hear about your VPS (Billy?) - I recall you mentioning how helpful he was many times. I know that JC is trying to find places to cut, but I don't think cutting customer service is the right call.

So far over the past few months they've closed stores, cut bridal, ended the VPS program...what's going to be next?

      Delete
    8. @TM93, i think you're right that some more stores will close sadly. Hopefully they never go to online only. I've noticed that more items (at least ones I've been interested in) seem to be online only. I try to buy in store to support them but often they don't have an item I want. I hate doing returns so I wish stores had a better selection.
A good thing is that I've seen positive articles on the men's line (some new stretch they've added to pants) and about the party wear line in the past couple of weeks. It was nice to see some positive press for them.

      Delete
    9. @silver_lining, that's really disappointing to learn about store policy and the SAs' experiences. (Why not replenish popular items?) I don't really understand the rhyme and reason behind it, especially the bit about the languishing sale section. I do appreciate the convenience of being able to return items to a store, but I do feel a little bad hardly ever buying anything in store. Just wish they had a better selection in the first place.

  6. I stopped in last night to try some new things in an attempt to shake off a bad day but I just wasn't feeling it. The sale section at my store is sad and has been sitting there for months. Nothing new or exciting to speak of. I tried on several new things, was planning on putting a blog post together and I felt like nearly every thing I tried on was a miss. The tops were all short on me - the bow sweater, bell sleeve blouse, Drake's giraffe top and button back bell sleeve top - all SHORT. I'm 5'8" with a regular torso and the only thing that moderately salvaged these tops for me was trying them on with the lookout high rise jeans (which are a love for me). The beaded Tippi I tried on had beads missing on the collar and the SA said that was happening a lot. I bought the jeans which weren't on promo online but I received the 30% in store. I have them but they're too big (yay!) so I wanted a smaller size.

I did really like the fatigue jacket which was a surprise for me as. Hoping that once I have a cup of coffee and get myself together that I'll be inspired to put a blog post together with photos even everything wasn't a "win" this go around. There were several items I would have liked to try that weren't in store - they didn't have any of the pop stripe items or the striped v-neck s/s sweater.

    ReplyDelete

    1. that last section should say "surprise for me as I don't usually do a lot of fatigue green." still getting through my coffee.

    2. Oh that sounds like a sad trip to the crew. What striped s/s sweater are you talking about?

      Delete
    3. The beaded Tippi was one of a few items I was interested in. After reading the online reviews and the feedback from your SA I will not be purchasing it even on super sale. All reviews state that the sequins easily fall off. Come on j. Crew!!!!

    4. @ShoppingCelle, I think it might be item G1291, the one that is featured with the Sweater skirt in the same color and pattern for a hookup.

    5. @TM93 thanks for chiming in! that is the sweater I was referring to. Just flipping through my photos - I think my blah mood contributed to my blah trip - will get a post up so people can see pics. :)

JessF - the Tippi is so cute in person and very disappointing about the beads!

    6. @Anne, I hope that today is a great day for you. :) thank you for your reviews, I was worried that the tops would be too short so I won't bother trying some of those. I'm 5'7" but longish torso and often have a hard time with length. I regret buying the lace peplum on final sale because when I sit it rides up quite a bit showing my back. Standing it was fine in the change room but I forgot to try sitting (had little ones with me).

    7. Thanks for the reviews @Anne. Looking forward to your post. Hope you're feeling better. Sometimes it's hard to shake a blah mood. Coming here to read the great posts often helps me!

  8. Received a J.Crew order yesterday, and here's my review of:

Wide Leg Jumpsuit in Shirting Stripe - was inspired to try this because of Maqsad when I saw her IG @sartorialchoices. Emailed CS for measurements, thought a size 0 would work, but when I tried it, I couldn't even hook it at the waist! A size 0 measured at 27+ inches, and I wear 25-26 jeans, depending on the rise, so it should fit me right?? I think sizing up to a 2 or a 4, would not work, and other areas would end up huge on me.

Silk pajama shirt in foulard print - ordered this in a size 0. Fits perfectly on my 36B chest. Sleeve length is fine-around 30" in length. The only negative thing that's minor; the fit is the same as my Drake's pajama shirt in pink Bengal tigers, around the back/shoulder/armpit, when you move your arms forward like giving someone a hug, it doesn't stretch/give, so there are fit issues there. I'm still on the fence about keeping it because of the design of the fabric. I don't mind the circle designs, but I didn't care much for the design that goes around the bottom of the shirt, and the cuffs. I think it makes the shirt look dated and old fashion. I'm trying to think past this minor issue, like how do I wear the shirt to make it look hip and modern...? Dark skinny jeans with Stan Smiths?? Hmm.

Lea Ballet Flats in snakeskin - ordered a 6, and fit was fine on my medium width feet. I have not had any experience owning shoes with an elastic band, but these I feel will pose a problem to the back of my feet (achilles) during first wears...unless it stretches and softens after. Not sure if I want to gamble on these.

  10. Has anyone tried the ruffle chambray pant? How's the fit? TTS?

I ordered a 8tall hopefully they run true to size unlike the Martie, which on me run two sizes too small.

    1. I'd like to hear your review of them! They are on my wishlist to order next, but I've been waiting since it's still winter for at least another month in the Midwest.

    2. I didn't like them. First tried a 2 (regular pant size) and they were big in the waist and sat really high. So I tried a 0 thinking they just ran big. they still sat too high but were a little snug. This might be one of those times I need a petite size (5'4") but I'm not sure I even want to bother

      Delete
    3. I tried the khaki version. They run TTS but the rise is a little high as others mentioned, and they also were a bit short on me even at 5'4. I also am not a fan of the kick-crop and would have preferred for the pants to taper toward the hem for a more fitted look.

      Delete
    4. Thanks ladies! I didn't realize they were kick-crop..shooooot. I'm not a fan either. I'll see how it goes.

    5. I saw them in the store the other day but didn't have a chance to try them on. They look super cute though! They're not described as having a flared leg but I guess they're not tapered either. Ema (crazyaboutjcrew) tried the khaki version on IG.

    6. Just received the pants. I ordered the 8T and they fit perfectly. High waisted and hit me right at the ankle bone. They do not flare out at the bottom for me. THey are a tapered/straight fit on me. Thank goodness they worked out.

  14. I paid a visit to both the factory store and my retail store. The factory store had some cute mannequins including a blue striped button down under the adorable giraffe tee. It was adorable! I returned both button downs I purchase a few weeks ago and picked up some flip flops for my oldest girl.

Then we jetted off to the retail store and I was loving everything! I loved the bright orchid color paired with a khaki skirt and cobalt bag (definitely want to copy that!). I loved the new fringe dot midi and ordered both color ways this morning (at 5'10 finding long enough skirts is always a problem), and I loved all the jewelry. It was hard to resist. I ended up returned the sequin Jackie - the flowers on the gold version were a little too pink for me. I didn't bother with the sale room because I knew I wanted to order the skirts and I didn't want to be tempted.

My daughter loved everything in sight in the crewcuts section. I was able to get her out of there without buying anything but then we got home and she tried on all her shorts for our trip to Florida tomorrow and none fit :(. She's rail thin like her daddy so even though she's 6, she usually wears size 4s on the bottom. Her size 4 shorts don't fit. Guess we'll be buying some this summer. Luckily she has enough dresses to make it through the week.
