J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Not a review. Madewell has released a line of intimate apparel. I can remember buying cotton bras and underwear from J.Crew years ago. It was actually really good quality and well made or made well!

    1. I had J. Crew underwear too back in the day!
The Madewell stuff looks nice but I can already see it's a pass for me because I have no use for unsupportive bralettes. Minimalist lingerie is not an option for a lot of people.

  2. Got my Signet bag in red last week, and it's lovely! I like that there are several little pockets and things to organize the stuff that rattles around my bag. So happy to have found it for $95 before the 40% off sale promo! It's worth keeping an eye out for pop-backs when the better promos are on, I think.

I also got my Comme de Garcons Converse last week. I wear a size 8.5 in basically all my shoes (although I was a 9 in some older J.Crew styles). I ordered these in an 8 based on reviews, and they're still a little big. Heel inserts should solve it, but it does feel a bit odd to put inserts in sneakers. Anyway, they're cute and comfy. They look great with skinny ankle jeans, I think.

I wore the shoes and carried the Signet bag on Sunday night-- posted a pic on my Instagram @Monica_Bonica (formerly @monzabuss).

    1. I hope the shoes work out for you! The red bag adds that special pop of color.

    2. I agree, lovet he red bag. The color combo is fun and makes it really versatile. I'm on a "no bag" ban but I've been tempted several times.

    3. I'm OBSESSED with my red signet bag, and I really love how it pretty much goes with any outfit. And it's included in the Valentine's Day sale...so I might have to purchase another color!

  4. I just received the skinny silk scarf in Cabernet. This scarf came in three color ways, an ivory pro white with black bows, a deep green with zebras and the Cabernet. I actually never even saw it online, only on a photo with the model wearing a heavy turtleneck sweater with the scarf around her neck, underneath. (So I barely caught a glimpse!) the colors are perfect for my wardrobe: a deep red, black, white taupe and mid tone blue. The shape is great to wear around the wrist, on a bag, etc. I think it can even be tied in a big bow around my neck.i know it's silly because it's such a little thing, but it brings me joy,

    1. Ivory OR white...autocorrect typos.

    2. It's even better when little things bring joy!

    3. Not at all silly -- sometimes, it really is the little things! It's so wonderful to find small pieces that you know will make such a difference and bring so much joy. We all have our own version of such things, a belt, a scarf, a bracelet. Enjoy!!

    4. I would never have even looked at this but for your comment, so thank you for bringing me a smile on a dreary day.

    5. That's exactly how I felt when I opened it up.

    6. It's also perfect as a watch band. I like the men's Timex weekender with the web band. I'm looking for white with gold trim. (Have black with silver.)

    7. This is the only place I can find the image, but it's not accurate. The ends of mine have a solid black stripe. https://www.lyst.com/accessories/jcrew-skinny-silk-scarf-cabernet/

  5. OT: Gap is reissuing favs from the 1990s (http://www.racked.com/2017/2/7/14531784/gaps-90s-collection-vintage-shop). Wouldn't it be fun if JC did the same?

    1. Yes, JC should total do the same thing!

    2. I wonder what they'd reissue though. What would JCAs want reissued?

    3. @D*ska, I'm newer to JC than many of our fellow JCAs so I never got to try the Schoolboy or Bella boxers and would love to try those personally! I'm petite so most blazer styles are so long on me and I end up looking dumpy. (Love the Regent, but I ended up selling it for this reason.) I'm sure you guys have a lot of cherished pieces, too!

    4. Anthropologie did the same thing a few years ago, I thought it was really fun. If J Crew were to reissue, I would say mostly jackets like the Juliette and Maggie, it's hard to find these pre-owned in petite sizing. I also have issues with a lot of the newer blazers being too long. Maybe some of the unique prints from the pre-2008 era, I really would love to have a re-issue of the library cardigan or Versailles dress.

    5. I have to agree with some of the jackets and blazers... And some of the fuller skirts... And prints! Give me a slightly below the knee, full, library print skirt!!!

P.s. the gap 90s reissue is awful!!!

    6. I'd also love to see the library print again (still clinging to my umbrella in that print). A full skirt in that would be amazing @Miss JSR!
Would love the Versailles print, maybe the lobster or anchor print for summer.

    7. Oh please, please bring back the Library print! So gorgeous!

    8. The library print was quite lovely. The style of the dress however didn't work for me. I would snap that print up in a blouson or sheath silhouette.

  6. The Portland cardigan in merino wool! I still get compliments on it, and the quality of the wool was so good it never pilled at all.

  7. Late to the party, but -- the Arrow sweater, the Foxtrot jacket (mine "disappeared" from a coat rack), Bella jacket in wool tweed, Maggie jacket... and I wish they'd bring back the lovely leather buttons.

    1. Seconding the lovely leather buttons, Bella jacket and shoes shoes shoes. And a majesty cropped peacoat.

    2. I do wish that the wool Bella came in a deep rich green, I have the moss velvet but it's not really my color.

  8. Ladies: how do you style the arrow sweater of yore? I have two, unworn, bc I found them difficult to work with...

    1. Just remembered I have the Arrow sweater, too. Never wore it. Will have to dig it out and try it again. I think I will treat it more like a jacket/blazer. It's pretty thick merino.

    2. Yes, but I'm hopeless taking photos/selfies. Absolutely hopeless!

    3. I have the arrow sweater in black and it has survived several closet purges. I often forget I have it though. I treat it like a more casual blazer - usually paired with a long sleeve striped tee and jeans/loafers/flats. I've layered an excursion vest over it too.

    4. Anne - that's exactly what I'm going to do with my Arrow sweater. I have the black one, too. The weather is supposed to warm up into the mid-50s this weekend. Maybe I can get away with that instead of my North Face puffer. It's SO cold today!

    5. Thanks for the suggestions! 💕

  9. Received last week's order today, so some reviews:

My party PJ pants have a rip in a seam, but at least they're not sold out. Not 100 percent sure but I may reach out and see if they can send a replacement. I ordered them in a 0 and wanted a slouchy fit, they fit fine but the pockets stick out a little which may be due to the low rise. Otherwise I like the material and the white piping A LOT. I could totally see wearing these with a white blouse/white tee and/or white blazer in the spring/summer since the wool is lightweight.

I got the collection Ryder pants in leather in my smaller size, 00. The 0 popped back and I ordered just in case, but the order was canceled today. I don't think the size up would work and as I understand it leather stretches and molds to your body, so although these are fitted I think they will get better with wear. I feel great in them. They're very comfortable and the leather is soft.

Also got the lady coat with braided trim in my usual coat size, 4. I was afraid it might be too big but don't think I could size down. I love the Chanel inspired look and the length works much better on me than the typical boxy blazer. The price was great on sale and although the last thing I need is another coat, I think I have to keep this because it's so classic. I like it over the leather pants too.

  10. Has anyone tried the cap toe Gemma flats? The reviews are horrible but I have my eye on the coral ones for when the weather warms up...I don't have a pair of them so curious why these newer ones have such dismal reviews. TIA!
