This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So
if you have recently purchased,
or stopped by a J.Crew store to try
on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you
might be willing to share that
information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In
particular, if you could
mention a few of the noteworthy
details like fit, size, fabric, and the
like— that would be fantastic! Thanks
in advance! :)
ReplyDeleteA few reviews here.
Maddie pants in black watch- great fit, SO ITCHY!!!! Why oh why did they not line these? Zipper pockets look dumb undone.
ReplyDeleteMesh flats in houndstooth- A bit narrow and scrunchy in the toes. I did not care for the mesh in person, it made it look like I didn't care I had little footie peds on that were showing. The innermost piping is soft and velvet-y which was a nice touch.
Styling the Cocoon Coat, leather gloves, and Factory plaid tartan ruffle shirt on the blog today. Fit runs TTS.
ReplyDeleteHeather
Partial to Pink
I posted the second set of my try-ons on my blog last night including the striped waffle tee, Black watch vest and Regent blazer, festive fair isle Tippi, lady jacket in metallic tweed, Holly in fair isle, oversized striped turtleneck and the pink lace peplum top. The link to my blog is here.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you missed it over the weekend, I posted some photos of the shift dress in multicolored tweed, silk twill pant and flounce dress in wolfstooth, lace dress with pockets, ponte pleated dress (loved this), pintucked lace pencil skirt, and the lace peplum top which I tried out as a "hookup" with a lace pencil skirt and lace pants. You can see the photos on my blog here.
OT but there's free shipping today on all orders and they're running a tiered promo - $25 off $125 / $75 off $250 and $200 off $500.
ReplyDeleteI picked up the festive plaid button down and the Gayle sweater in grey which had been excluded from other promotions but was not excluded from this one.
Hi Anne! I've been eyeballing that plaid button-up... I have had to purge most of my button-ups as I have sized out of them but this one looks special to me due to the pattern placement so I might bite. Looks like it runs small as per the site. I hate guessing so I might hold off until you get yours & review!
DeleteTaylor, I just bought the festive plaid button up shirt. It was on a display and I asked the SA if it was a perfect or boy shirt. She said boy, so I bought my regular size 0. It fits great (32B). In perfect shirts, I wear size 2 due to my wide shoulders. I did not find it ran small. The shirt does not say "boy" or "perfect" inside like they usually do, so I have no idea what cut this one actually is!
Delete@shopalot thanks for the input! Maybe I'll just order my regular size, then... I'd hate to miss out on the promo.
DeleteAgree with @shopalot its TTS
DeleteThanks @Ina!
DeleteI ordered the 12 in the plaid which is the larger of my two sizes - we'll see how it works out. Thanks for the input Ina and shopalot, I may be ok with it a little larger. Taylor - I'll report back as I think we're a similar size :)
Delete@Anne intried one larger too and found it to be ok too
DeleteI found it ran true to size everywhere but pulled a bit at the bust - if that's a concern for you then I'd suggest sizing up on this one.
DeleteIt definitely is not a boy fit.
Petite cropped Maddie pant in Black Watch bi-stretch wool
ReplyDeleteI have two pairs of solid Maddie pants in size 6P and ordered these without hesitation. I completely missed the "cropped" part of the product description! So in petite, these were too short for my liking. They were also WAY too small. The fabric is not as thick as the regular wool Maddies, and some will find it itchy. I am going to re-order in the regular length in a 6 (the reviews for the regular length seem to indicate they run tts) and see how they look. But for anyone who really wants the cropped 25” petite inseam I would definitely suggest sizing up from your regular size.
Colette Bow Pumps in Steward Plaid
AND
Else Pave Pumps in Blackwatch Plaid
I ordered both of these intending to only keep one but I LOVE both. They are so pretty. Construction of both shoes felt good on my feet, especially the Else pump – I really felt like that shoe held my foot well, if that makes sense. In past iterations of Jcrew heels I have always sized up from a 7.5 to an 8, but some of the more recent styles I have found true to size. I felt these were true to size and the 7.5 was the right fit. My husband commented that the plaid on the blackwatch heels was not “distinctive enough.” Meaning that unless you really looked closely, they looked like solid black heels. The colors are dark and there is not much contrast. He’s not usually one to chime in on my wardrobe, so I thought that was a helpful comment.
Women's Sperry for J.Crew Shearwater flannel boots
I commented yesterday along with @TM93 that I sized up in these according to the fit chart, and wish I hadn’t because they are too big. They only offer whole sizes (and I’m a 7.5) so I think I’ll try a sizing down and re-evaluate.
Star Tippi – love. True to size. I love that the stars are embroidered. I’m wearing this today with the tweed/houndstooth pencil skirt from last fall and it looks great.
Hi JCA's - Holiday #2 images going up on my Insta. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteOMG, the cover is adorable! Thanks so much for posting @silver_lining. When will the online roll-out happen?
DeleteI got the Holiday Style Guide at my store a couple of days ago and it is very Holiday. Some pretty things but I think we have seen most of them. Nothing really popped out at me.
DeleteWeek of thanksgiving
DeleteLoving the festive photos! Thanks Silver Lining!
DeleteDD...any chance of posting pics. Seems like JCA's are on top of the style guides more than J Crew itself. I wish J Crew would just post the darn thing....its hard to wait when some people have it aleady....thanks in advance if anyone can post pics.
Deleteopps. thanks silver lining....JCA's are very generous.
Deleteis that a plaid mid/and card size pouch I spy? also do I see nail polish off to the side of one of the pics. gosh...you would think I was obsessed or something,
DeleteThank you Silver Lining! Much appreciated!
DeleteThank you so much for posting! I love the cover, so cute!
DeleteMadewell's pouch clutch in calf hair: I've had & loved earlier versions of this clutch, but I found this year's iteration disappointing. It now only has calf hair on one side, not both, and the smooth leather back on the one I received (shipped from a store) was already scratched up. The "tent green" is an interesting color, a bit more yellow/olive than the online pix, but I don't love it enough to try to exchange for an undamaged one.
ReplyDeleteOh no. I ordered the spotted one monogrammed and it hasn't shipped yet.
DeleteI received my Denim Sheath Dress today and am quite happy about it aside from the length. I ordered my usual size 12 and the fit was TTS, but definitely above the knees (I'm 5'9"). Measuring the center-back, it was 38" long. Measured from the inner shoulder (closest to the neck), it actually was 39", and measured from the outer shoulder it was 38" again. I can live with the length, but wish the photo had been accurate. The fabric is nice and soft, and a little lighter colored than it looks online. It's a very comfortable dress, just not as dressy as I'd hoped due to the length and colour.
ReplyDeleteI bought the velvet bow-back top from Madewell in the Dark Metal color. I really love this top! I tried it in my regular size and a size down and could have gone with either but went with the larger of the two because I liked how it draped better.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried the Madewell Monsieur Coat? I'm interested in the Burnished Cedar color. I'm not sure about sizing, though. It looks like an oversized style. How dropped are the shoulders? Is it TTS? Thanks!
I tried it. I was almost sure by just looking at it th as the I needed to go con a size but ithe was too small in the shoulders and sleeves, so I would say tts. I didn't particularly liked it, it looks better in the Made well pics than IRL IMO.
DeleteI was pleasantly surprised by the High Waist French Bikini Brief in Italian Matte. I didn't really know what to expect, but decided to give them a try as they were not final sale. I'm a size 12, late 40s, thick-waisted, and have plenty of stretch marks. I've been wearing swim skirts and swim shorts for years to get more coverage, but lately have been craving the simplicity and single-layer of regular swim bottoms again. When I pulled the size XL bottoms out of the package, they seemed enormous and I thought I'd really made a mistake. I gamely pulled them on, and lo and behold, I liked what I saw! They covered my assets quite nicely, and didn't create a muffin top (this was my biggest fear). The waist hit right at my belly button. The fit was a little bit loose, but wearable. As they are still not final sale, I ordered a size L for comparison.
ReplyDeleteThe fit of the High Waist Bikini-bottom in Gingham Seersucker was similar to the Italian Matte, but too baggy in front to keep. I returned them and ordered a size L as the Demi Underwire top in Gingham was so cute (fit was TTS for the top).
Thank you for the great review! I'm always looking for bottoms with coverage which are so hard to find. I still have the tulle hipsters Jcrew made a few years ago, I love the coverage (a bit lower than the high waisted but good rear coverage) and wish they'd make more like that.
DeleteYou're welcome. I'll post again when the size L arrives, likely in another day or two. The high waist bottoms have a real retro look (my sister called it a Gidget suit) that always admire when I see old photos. I thought I needed to have a tiny waist like the model to pull it off, but I now realize that other body types like mine can enjoy them too.
DeleteAn updated review of the Lena patent cap toe pump. I fell in love and splurged on them. I wore them tonight for the first time and they were comfortable. It's a high heel so it does take awhile to get used to walking, but I was on my feet a lot and walked plenty. I really love them.
ReplyDeleteRe:sizing, I've been an 8.5 in most J.Crew shoes lately but needed a 9 in these.

ReplyDeleteI ordered the double serge wool dress in heather lilac and the magnolia necklace.
ReplyDeleteThe dress. The wool is very thick and substantial, which makes it a great winter dress. It's fully lined and not itchy at all. The color is very pretty - darker than pastel but not purple. I'm petite but ordered straight size, one size down, so I can get a knee length skirt (J.crew petite dresses always end above my knee, even though I'm only 5-2). But this is very very fitted.
I need to stand up straight and suck it in and it looks fabulous. Very Jackie K, Kate M, Audrey H. what have you.
I cannot go up a size because it will be too big in the chest, shoulders, and armpits. I guess if I had an unlimited budget I'd go up a size and get the top tailored, but weirdly, I'd probably end up right where I am now. Not sure a slightly large waist would look better (although it would definitely feel better).
The magnolia necklace is an unexpected love. It's clear, so it picks up the colors of whatever you are wearing.
Flower Powerrrrr!!
DeleteThat is all.
Oh. And I love that dress, too. Glad to see the favorable review. J. Crew nails the sheath.
When I got it, I forgot it was double serge rather than super 120s. Either way, it would have probably been fine. It's so thick, I love it/
DeleteReveiws of the lace-up leopard pumps, lena jeweled and midi cherry. Out of the three, the midi cherry is my least favorite (due to polyester) but it's a fun print and length. Love the leather sole on the Lena (added comfort) and the leather laces for the leopard pumps.
