"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I already vented about the colors of the gingham Tippi & the non-wowing shoes in the new roll-out in another post so here's a non-vent: ebates is offering 6% cash back on J Crew orders right now!

  2. So...got the email today that they're doing double points for J.Crew card purchases...don't you think they would have done it yesterday to coincide with the new arrivals? Fine print says effective starting today...so yes, I'm happy that maybe we'll be getting more card perks but...it doesn't help the order I placed yesterday! Double points good through the 13th.

    1. Ha, yeah they finally heard us- double points!

    2. Anne, when I was in store yesterday, SA said double points were in effect. May be worth checking on your order.

  3. OT, but has anyone seen the convertible zip anorak in person? (Item no. e7245). I loved the way it looked in the catalog, and I don't have a good casual rain jacket. I just wonder on sizing. It says "cut for a classic fit," but it looks oversized to me.

    1. convertible....means double sided? reversible?? doesn't look reversible online.

    2. It unzips and converts to a true poncho.

  4. As far as I can tell the Robsen St store is the only store store in Vancouver that is carrying the sunglasses....so if you want to check them out you have to go to that store. C

  7. I got a pair of cotton pants from J.Crew with two huge stones sewn into the back side seam of one of the pockets. (About the size of two huge wads of bubblegum) I had to cut the fabric of the inside of the pocket to get them out. There was also a third stone loose in the pocket that fell out on the floor that "you know who" got (Yes you Doodle) but I managed to get away from her. How does that happen??? I know it sounds terribly crazy but anyone else had this experience?

    1. That is so strange! Did you buy them in-store or order them online? I can't imagine the purpose they'd serve!

And here I thought it was crazy that the front pockets of a pair of Ryder pants I wore for the first time yesterday were completely sewn shut. Like, for REAL sewn shut. I did take them to my alterations lady to have hemmed so I wonder if she did it as I have asked her to do this before... but not on this pair of pants! Who knows. This concludes today's episode of "POCKET MYSTERIES."

    3. I ordered them online...maybe if I got them at the clearance center I could understand a little better.

    4. Just to add to the " what with the pockets series":).. A pair of patio bi-stretch wool that I ordered .. Backside two slant pockets, left side sewn shut, right side with a button closure . Is this how it is supposed to look ?

    5. @Nan, do you mean the Campbell trousers? I love those, have them in three colors. Re) the back pockets --- I think the one on the left is sewn shut (but not in a permanent way -- the kind that you can pull apart), while I don't think the pocket with the button was sewn shut (or maybe just a tad, I can't remember.) I just bought this style in the bi-stretch cotton version and found the same to be true with this style.

  8. OT....went to store to do online returns
some new stuff on the floor ---not online
there is a top -version of the dress (striped) with the bell sleeves
it is nice but looks short-cropped to me
denim shorts in the raynar side zip style. these two items I have not seen online?
    * I liked was the patio pants in the heavy chambray. these are really nice IRL
the short sleeves t shirt with the embroidered sleeves is thin, looks boxy and cropped to me- a total pass
-all the new prints of shirts are thinnner and I know I would have to go up one size...small across the shoulders.so no shirts for me...although the thomas mason short sleeved embroidered shirt $300 canadian...is what i will be dreaming about.
-new (silver metallic regent ) is VERY pretty ...but I hate the regent
    - the gingham motorcycle jacket. cute. But very youthful looking imo .
-the new skirt in white with kind of (lacey /lazer ) cut out detail..is cute but...another pass ..as it is just so so
    - as well as the navy dress with sleeves...looks like a Jules dress IMO.
    jewelery...not a fan lately...very light weight
"Life is short ...buy The shoes" has a review of the new navy one. (new version of the old bubble necklace imo )
dislike the pink lucite...as it is just not for me...will look good on others though.
shoes...did not anything new....sale is 30% off ( Canadian Stores) and is picked over ...looking shopworn. so that is it for today.

    1. Oh boy, there is some crazy stuff. My fave is the Jules in Ashbury floral (in a size 14). How old is that?

  10. Thank you! Grabbed my pop back. Ebates 6%.

  11. I'm tempted to order the pull on floral lace pants! And try the lamp post green patchwork chinos. I have nothing else that color but thought how cute with a white button down and leopard shoes. I usually hate the way chinos fit but they are not final sale.

    1. @Suz Has, really happy with the lamppost chinos; they're not something I'd normally purchase, but happy I tried them. Your styling choice will work well.

    2. I pulled the trigger on a few other items but not these. How do you find the fit? I am not sure if they're really me, and then I remembered how much I dislike most pants that aren't denim, black or really dark colors. They have similar ones in a more olive tone but the fit is different, a skinnier leg.

    4. Ok, 3rd attempt to post. Guess my brain is on Spring Break too!

Fit was tts for me. I also have the warm sage that were released in early spring. I like both; fit my hips & buttocks nicely. Ema has a review of the lamppost ones on her IG; not sure if you saw it. Vacation is coming & colors work well, particularly paired with prints & neutrals. I hate struggling with luggage so this "rule" is a part of my packing system. I can travel for 2-3 weeks with a carry on & tote bag. I would follow your mind about your likes and dislikes; that helps me to focus my purchases. JC can make it so easy to buy sometimes with the pricing. Also, hope the Teddie striped sailor pant works for you...maybe ithe color is a "new navy."

    5. @mygoddy, I posted the review of the teddy sailor in stripe. The fit was just weird. Loose around my waist but tight at the upper thigh/lower hip, so as cute as they are they have to go back.

I like the warm sage in those pants but I'm really hoping to find a wide leg chino in that color so I'm going to wait it out.

I also try to pack for a week in a carry on and tote. Zip locks help! I always keep a pretty simple color scheme. Last spring I did red, black and natural linen and packed way too much in a long champ duffle and large tote, including I can't even tell you how many pairs of shoes.

    6. Oh no...hate the pants didn't work. Agree, Ziplocks work great & the Container Stores' travel system with Eagle Creek is the best thing since "sliced bread!" I swear by it.

  13. Went to wear my new St James hoodie today, and realized the CT store shipped it with the security tag still in place :/. That's strike three for that snooty store. Strike one: didn't know the price of the top, to the point online CS called them to correct. Strike two: charged $8 to ship, then sat on the package for almost a week. Grrr.
