J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. For anyone that read that I did not like the Rayner chino. I have had a change of heart. I did not get back to the store to return them so I ended up trying them on again and wearing them to work yesterday. The material is quite sturdy and substantial and did not stretch out like some other J.Crew cotton pants I own. They held their shape nicely and didn't really wrinkle that much either. I bought the larger of my J.Crew pant sizes and that was the right move for me. I got at least compliments on my outfit yesterday and I think it is partly because of the pants.

    1. I remember you said you wore a striped tee, what shoes?

    2. Lucky, DD! The Rayner was a NO for me. Like I said, I have a tummy, so high waisted in a size 2 worked, but was roomy around my hips and butt.

If J.Crew predicts that they are designing a popular item, why couldn't they produce it in petite as well?? I've been wanting that Rayner style since the debut of the jean version in white last Spring season.

      I'll stick to my Broken-In Chinos in P2. :)

    3. I wore the collins tortoise loafer. I can't wear heels except for very low. I do have some Lillian wedge sandals and some other low heel sandals that I think will be cute later in the year. Meant to say at least 3 compliments in the above by the way.

  3. Tried two items from the most recent new arrivals:

Collection A-line silk twill skirt in watercolor floral (E9419)--I think the print is beautiful and the fabric is quite nice, but the skirt definitely did not work for me. In my opinion, the skirt is more of a classic circle or full skirt than a genuine A-line, and it created way too much fullness at my hips. The 24" length also did not work on my frame (shorter torso, longer legs). However, it could be a good style for someone with a different body type. Fully lined, and the skirt has pockets.

Patio pant in skinny stripe (E8718)--quite liked these, but they felt a little tight to me in my typical size 8, so they may run a little small, or it may be that the fabric in this version has less give (my apologies, but I don't have another version of the Patio pant to compare it to). Fabric is essentially a seersucker, and the narrow width of the stripes made it function as something of a spring/summer neutral for me. I also quite like the wide cuff at the hem, but it made shoe choices a little more complicated for me (the only thing I liked these with was an open-toe wedge sandal, not pointy flats or other shoes I have been wearing with the wide-leg crop styles that are popular right now).

    1. I'm very interested in the Patio pant in skinny stripe - thanks for the review. I am also attracted to the wide cuff at the bottom.

    2. Thanks for the review, I was considering the watercolor floral skirt as well...could you say it fits the same as the hothouse floral skirt from a few years back? (https://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/skirts/alinemidi/PRDOVR~28823/28823.jsp)

  4. I've barely bought any JC since I'm a sahm and wearing jeans is dressed up for me these days. But I thought the Sloane flats would be a cute shoe for jeans and leggings and a good basic shoe, so I grabbed them when they were 25% off. I got them in the black suede and I have to say they are really nice. I bought them a 1/2 size down based on reviews and that was the absolute right choice. When I first put them on, it felt like it might be uncomfortable over the top of the foot but it molded to my foot and just gave a little and they fit perfectly now. I'm hoping I'll get some use out of them, but I really think you can't go wrong w/a great pair of black flats and my TB Reva's are pretty beat up since they're probably 8 years old. I guess I was due for a replacement!

    1. I love these shoes too! I love them so much I bought a backup pair.

    2. I own them in four colors! They really are great.

    3. Ladies, are the sloans comfortable? I've always been interested in them but some reviews mention horrible blisters which reminds me of how the Hayes sandal last year destroyed my heels so I'm afraid when I hear that. :)

    4. Jan, the suede ones are very comfortable, no problems for me. I went down half a size. That's too bad about the Hayes, I have them and haven't had a chance to wear them yet. A bit worried now but I can have bandaidsnon hand just in case!

    5. Cate, thank you! Yes, def use something with the Hayes in case (I know Gigi has often recommended blister block I should've tried it). I ended up putting gel pads at the back of the heels so I can at least wear them now but I've never had blisters on the back of my heels like I did from them. The top edge of the back/heel area is the problem for me.

  5. Just read a review posted on J.Crew's website regarding the Cotton Patio Pants. She said that the pants sagged after wearing.

It would be nice to own the cotton Patios, a lighter alternative to the wool.

I am disappointed that they didn't change the fabric's composition, after receiving the same reviews last spring season. SMH.

  6. I received the mirror metallic teddies today and they are just besutiful! I felt that the 2 fit me well (108 lbs). Sadly, they did not come in a petite size and the length simply did not flatter (5'3") even when paired with my Dulci kitten heels. Super bummed.

  7. Got a few orders With some hits and a few disappointments.

Gemma glitter flats: the leather ones didn't fit my feet well but I took a chance on these and sized down. They fit fairly comfortably. I'm concerned about the fabric stretching out but I do like them.

Mid weight striped tee: I got both my smaller and larger size. This is the one that came in cherry and ivory. It's not as cropped as I was concerned it would be. Nice heavy weight. For the length I may size up but I think the smaller size my look better out.

Back zip striped tee, the one with pleather stripe down the sleeves. I got my smaller size and it fits well. I like it.

Faux leather pleated mini skirt: I ordered my smaller and larger sizes. I don't feel much difference in the size but may keep the larger because the pleats look a little fuller. OTOH if the waist fits smaller the skirt may be more flare, which I like. I really like the material. I just need to try with a bunch of different shoes. The length is totally respectable on me, but pleated skirts above the knee can be tricky. Don't want to look like a school girl or a school marm.

Full length Campbell in wool and Campbell Capri in cotton. I tried the full length on in store and liked them but the length is a little weird. Not long enough to wear with high heels but a little long and flared for flats. I'll try with a few sandals or something. The upper part looks nice. The cotton I sized down to 00 which fits and was hoping the little kick at the hem would be similar to, but less pronounced than the Teddie. Unfortunately it's just in between and not in a good way on me. I also bought a size up (2) from my regular size so I'll see how that fits. Maybe the looser leg will be more flattering. The pants themselves are both beautiful but I need to try on a bunch of different shoes and see what works.

Oh, I also got the beach pants in that black and ivory print and they are perfect for an upcoming vacation. For $24 they're great, I wouldn't spend any more.

I have a few other try ons and will add to this when I can.

    1. Also got TORTOISE AND PAVÉ CRYSTAL EARRINGS
They are beautiful but HUGE! I knew the length from the description but there's no sense of scale, which I Think is a big problem. I haven't put them on yet but. Just holding them up to my ear they seem to over power my face (and body) which is too. Bad.

    2. Is there room to layer under the back zip tee (with faux leather on the arms)? I saw it at my store and it is adorable.

    3. I saw the styling with the button down shirt under after I purchased and considered sizing up but this size is not super fitted through the body. If the shirt is fitted enough it may work--or I heard one of my SAs telling another client she actually cuts the sleeves off her old white button downs to wear underneath other shirts! I thought that was a great idea!

    4. If you're on IG I posted a pic of the shirt with the Teddie pants in black. @wearthislikethis. You can't see the shoulders but you can see how it fits through the torso. I'm wearing an XS. usually if I size up to a small it's for my shoulders or the length. My torso is long and narrow.

    5. Posted the Campbell Capri pants on my IG. cuffed under once. I decided the full length are beautiful but not a good length (too short for heels and not right for flats). I guess I'm in a rut because I'm not loving anything. I thought the Campbell Capris might be an alternative to the more flare teddie pants. Thoughts welcome.

    6. Regent blazer in Bohemian Red. I have a red linen school boy blazer that I have worn a lot over the past few summers and I've been wanting a more multi-season red jacket. This is beautiful, but the color is too bright. I loved the bright red of the chateau parka. This is not it. The lady day coat in bright cerise is bright. This is even brighter. This is a step below day glo red. The quality is beautiful and I really like the fit, I just don't know if the color is wearable for me. (Also this stunk like heavy perfume--not mine-- and looks to have a mark, I wonder if it was worn and returned.)

  8. I'm styling the Gingham Martie pants on the blog tonight. Found these to run true to size, although I know some reviewers sized up. I like the side zipper on these pants.

  9. Received items from online orders. Was my chance to try items since extra % off & no FS.

    1. Collection painterly floral silk top. Ordered size 8 & fit is tts. Surprised by how much I liked this top; I ordered the skirt previously, but it wasn't a love so returned. That's not the case with the top. It's well made and I ordered it to wear with Collection A-line wool midi skirt in gossamer peach. Top goes beautifully & can wear tucked in or not. This is a 3 season option, so very happy with this one.

    2. Patchwork chino pant in lamppost green. This is a fun pant that fit tts. Glad I decided to try them. To get the right look, decided to roll the cuff a couple of times; pant works with a slingback heel or a wedge. Should travel well, so these will get a lot of wear.

    3. Skinny stripe sailor Teddie pant. I've been wanting a pair of striped pants for spring/summer, so definitely wanted to try these. The pant is not navy; it's definitely grey. I sized up 1 and that was the right call; pant has no stretch and I wanted to be comfortable. Like the "kick" and pant falls at the right length on my leg. Paired with a silk Vince top in coastal blue that has black leather trim @ the neck & my go to Loubie slingbacks. I tucked in the front of the shirt to show the buttons. My son liked the look, so that's a definite score, ha!

    4. St. James Hoodie in navy/white stripe. Is definitely oversized, but that's the intent. Sleeves are long, even on me, so I will have them altered. For less than $20, this was a steal; not sure why this was ever $200+. Planning to wear as a layer when traveling.

    5. Elsie glossy D'orsay pumps in navy. This is a nice shoe and I wanted them to work so bad; color is great, fit is tts and the price was a steal. However, the shoe hits my bone in a weird place, so they're not comfortable. A definite return; if my feet hurt, everything hurts!

    6. Collection inky floral top. Fit is tts, but the print in person is dull and just not a great choice for me. Back she goes.

    3. Glad to hear that! I'll have to copy styling ideas for the vivid lilac. :)
I believe you have the new balance in navy/salmon and I normally take the same shoe size as you from your reviews, I was wondering if you took your normal Jcrew size in the new balance? Thx!

    4. jan: Copy away!!!! I did take my normal size 9 in the New Balance. They are SO comfortable!!!!!

    1. The pieces are beautiful but I agree with you on the scale. I got the earrings that match the second necklace and they are HUGE. I have a small head and short hair and it just overpowers me.

  12. Ryan sunglasses- I was curious about the new sunglasses and ordered the Ryan to try. The quality seems very good IMO, sturdy and thick frames. I'm very happy with them but not sure if the frames are too big for my face. I don't have a small head but they look quite large on. They stick out from my face as they are a straight style (no wrapping or curving in) so maybe that's it as I'm used to my ray ban aviator style that has a bit of a wrap. Trying to decide on keeping them.

  13. Reviewed the lace-up flats on my blog. Love the pagoda peach color. Very nicely made, just wish the heels had more meat on them because I will definitely wear these flats a lot!

  14. Has anyone tried the Boy Shirt in Cotton-Tencel? I am looking for a white button-down that is opaque enough to not require a shirt under it. Any thoughts on sizing? I used to get a zero in boy shirts and a two in perfect shirts, but I haven't tried any in the last two years. Thanks!
