This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this
post) says it best, "You know, that thing you
bought because you love it and you keep pulling it
out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please
share your J.Crew item (either that you own or
are thinking about getting) that you would love help
creating an outfit with.
Also,
please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel
free to include links to your blog (where you
incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you
showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance!
:)
I'm styling the tunic sweater and gingham Kiki flats on the blog tonight. Sweater is definitely TTS, but the flats run big. I'd size down in these if you're between sizes. I have the cork Kiki flats from a few seasons ago, and this style runs larger.

Hi Heather, thank you for sharing styling ideas, but if you don't mind me saying, I don't think it is appropriate to use affiliate links on somebody else's (non-monetized) blog.
DeleteAlexis has always asked from the beginning that bloggers do not place their affiliate links on her website. She does not mind that we link to our blogs, IG, Polyvore, etc., but prefers that monetary links not be placed on JCA.

DeleteSorry, I wasn't aware. My apologies!
DeleteHi Heather. You can delete your post to honor Alexis's blog policy. That's what others have done when they placed affiliate links here.
DeleteYou also have the same affiliate link in this post.
DeleteWhat affiliate link is everyone referring to?
DeleteHi peis. Heather's link to the gingham flats goes through a Reward Style link. If you watch the URL space, you'll see the rstyle.me/n/bxxxx link flash before you arrive at the J Crew page.
DeleteI've shared a bit of style inspiration via Madewell this time, with my own personal twist for a less-spendy version of the look here: Madewell Looks We Love... Shop It: The Real Deal or The Real Steal. :)
ReplyDeleteLadies, any ideas of tops that would go with the Micropleated Midi skirt in Vivid Lilac (#e8691)? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYES, please suggest a top for this beautiful skirt! I just received it yesterday - I've got the shoes to wear with it but stuck for a top.... other than the "go to " denim jkt.
DeleteFlutter sleeve silk top in hibiscus print looks like it could work or the watercolor floral print from last year. If the lilac doesn’t match perfectly, you could wear a navy belt to create a contrast. Since navy works well with lilac, you could try a silk popover in the solid color or polka dot. If you like gingham I would think about the blue/white gingham in the popover. You could also try a navy & white stripe shirt like the midweight stripe top (E8773) or boatneck stripe (E6466). Short sleeve popover stripe top (C5097) could work; Ina has a picture on her IG (inawonderland 5). One of the casual vintage tees or garment dyed muscle tees (Ina has a review of this top on her IG too) in a pastel color for a pop of color could work. Can’t go wrong with a crisp white cotton shirt. I suggested prints in the tops, but you could go this direction in the shoes (i.e. gemma stripe flats or dulci kitten in romantic floral) and wear a solid color as your top with or without a denim jacket. Actually, the denim jacket could probably work with most of these options. A metallic sandal in the gold (E7300) or pink embellished (E7306) could also be a cute option too.
DeleteThank you for the great ideas, Mygoddy! Today, I tried a navy stripe tee which worked and I tried the short sleeve popover (just received it in white) but the shape didn't work with this skirt for me. I will def try some of your suggestions.
DeleteAfter trying again today, I think the issue for me with this skirt is that the pleating and flow at the waist make me look wider in the hips, I don't have much in hips and am pretty narrow but somehow it makes me feel wider. I think I want to love it but not sure it's that flattering on me. I think I'm drinking the Crewlade lol.
@Pix*see style, I agree it's beautiful which is why I want to love it on me but something seems off in the waist area for me. :)
Delete@jan, I hope you can make it work, but I think that if you're not loving it, you probably shouldn't drink the Crewlade, ha!
DeleteRynetta from jcrewismyfavstore looks lovely in hers!I sized up in my skirt so the pleats drop it's a little longer on me but "midi" is in right? Great suggestions Mygoddy, I'm going to try the basic T and maybe knot it? I don't know I'll play around with a few things I have. Jan-if you come up with something else that works please keep me posted!
Deletepix*see style: I really appreciate the compliment! Thank you SO much!
Delete@Jan, my two cents..try pairing with a blazer ( or even a shirt ) and then belt it . It might be helpful and give you a different silhouette . I didn't get these skirts this time but have a stripped one from seasons back and that is the only way I like it ( I'm a 6 but still, with a top tucked in it didn't feel right for me ). Hth but as @mygoddy wisely said, don't fall for the crewlade if it doesn't feel perfect for you:)
Delete@Mygoddy, @pix*see style, @Nan, thank you for the advice I really appreciate it! I'll try it again tomorrow with some of your great suggestions. If it doesn't work I need to return it, I normally decide quickly on an item but the reviews have been so great they are swaying me. :)

ReplyDeleteQuick question for those that have tried and kept the Teddie pants in geometric paneled jacquard .. Which size did you keep .. your normal size or did you size up? Also, did you notice any stretch after wearing it? TIA
ReplyDeleteI ended up sizing up (I have size 10 in the solid colored Teddies, and also in the mirrored floral Teddie, but returned the 10 and got a 12 in the geometric Teddie).
DeleteThere was a small amount of stretch after wearing, maybe, but very little.
@carmencatalina,thank you! I've been eyeing them now that they hit the sale section w/ add 30%off and no FS . For me. I think that sizing up (as long as they do not stretch with wear) might also be a better call because of my ocd..if the pants pull ever so slightly anywhere, the geometry of the pattern will be off and that will drive me crazy:)
DeleteHad to laugh—Blaire Edie of Atlantic Pacific posted a pic of her in the pull on pants in floral lace (in the pink) as a TBT on IG just now. I remember her original post and she just styled them monochromatic, a short wrap coat and lace up pointy flats.
ReplyDeleteIs it a sign? ! I thought the black ones looked great on you!
Deletewhat does TBT stand for... ??
Deletewhat does TBT stand for... ??
DeleteThrow. Ack Thursday. It's all over social media. Posts on FB and IG. (I'm not so aware but know when I see #tbt it means an older post, posted again!)
DeleteTHROW BACK THURSDAY!
DeleteSorry, typo.
There's also FBF which is Flashback Friday.
thanks.....
DeleteI got the red/navy/baby blue pom fringe flat---how would you style them (for a conservative workplace?)
ReplyDelete@ FAF, think you can pair with a skirt, dress or suit in linen or cotton for spring/summer. Think you could wear white, tan, navy or even a subtle pin stripe. The "neutral" colors would create a nice balance for the pop of color/fun in the shoe. If you wear a skirt, I would wear a chambray, crisp white cotton shirt or a pinstripe shirt.
ReplyDeletecool, I'll see what I have in my closet!!
