"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I wouldn't call it a "rollout", but there seems to be a handful of new items this morning, including bags, sandals and one new sweater. The bags are quite grim IMO. To my surprise there is a necklace - two tone floral - that I would consider on discount.

    1. Yeah sad to even call it a rollout...very few new items...There is a gorgeous bucket bag with painted on flowers though...Not even sure if it part of this rollout or from another bc I normally don't look at their bags...but this bag is beautiful.

  2. My last order...I met the $150 for free shipping but paid extra for the 3-6 day shipping. 2 of the 3 items arrived well beyond the 6 (business) day window. Wondering if I can email CS and get the shipping refunded.

    1. Julie - that happened to me once and I called up about it. They gave me 25% off coupon, which I thought was insufficient.

    2. It couldn't hurt to try . You'll get something, maybe a coupon, maybe a gift card - I think it depends on the phase of the moon.

    1. Has anyone tried the "new" cotton Jackie? I haven't seen the new version in the store. I agree with Conster, a tall version in both the shell and the cardigan would be wonderful.

    2. I would loooove to see some sweaters in tall! especially the featherweight cashmere cardigan. while I'm dreaming, how about the the cotton rollneck sweaters they used to make forever ago come back too?

    4. I would love to see tall sizes in most tops. I tried quite a few this past weekend and walked away with nothing because everything was too short. Today I stopped in and tried the tipped Jackie and it was so cropped.

    5. My white cotton rollneck finally went into permanent retirement this year with a hole too noticeable to ignore or fix. It was my go-to cozy sweater on spring nights around the house. I bought it in 1993 BTW, how's that for the life expectancy for old J Crew?

  4. Booo on the so called new rollout! Not sure what I was expecting, maybe some new dresses, yes that's it, maybe some with a bold print, flowers, maxi dresses.

  5. Not a vent, but I received an email survey from Comenity about the J Crew card. I bemoaned the lack of benefits (all 'exclusive' sales are offered to the public after a day or two, and can only be received if you subscribe to marketing emails;rewards are hard to track and take a long time to receive), and also offered suggestions for attractive benefits (card members should always get free shipping, it would be nice to receive a 5-10% bump over whatever discount is currently offered on purchases through the website or store). Just mentioning here in case anyone who agrees would like to make similar suggestions (you never know-someone might read them ;)). Also, the survey referred to priority customer service access for cardholders-anyone know anything about that? I had no clue.

    1. Great suggestions! Hope something good comes out of the survey.

    2. Interesting, I hope I get that e-mail. I would love to see the free shipping option for cardholders, and a little bump on percent off sale or the regular promotion. J.Crew has offered an additional percentage off sale for cardholders (40% off versus 30%), but it's been a while since I've seen one of those promotions.

    3. I would get a J Crew credit card IF they offered free shipping on every order. Currently, benefits attached to the card are not that great, IMO.

    4. They're pretty decent- a reward card for either $25 or $50 off depending on how much you've spent. I don't keep a balance on the card but it comes in handy sometimes. Free shipping would be a great benefit, though.

  6. Went in today for a return/exchange & to see new arrivals. It is quite small. Saw some cute linen shorts and pants. I'm sure there was more but that was all that I really noticed. The pant is a wide leg crop (posted a pic on my IG peterst1) & it comes in 3 colors. Doesn't appear to be on website yet. Picked up the gingham linen tunic for $38. That was on my wishlist; will work great for vacation, etc. @valleyoftheshoes has it on her IG. Also picked up St. James slouchy tshirt in navy and white stripe; it's been on my "to buy" list for a bit. Store had 30% off sandals.

    1. Great deal on the linen tunic-is it cheaper in store? TTS? Thanks!

    2. I bought my normal size medium; I also tried the small & could've sized down. Just chose not to because I like the more relaxed look of the medium. It was $69.99 & 40% off sale + educator discount.

    3. Thank you! I think my stores are 30% off-not a biggie, but so weird.

    4. The store I visited this afternoon offered 30% off sale items. Lots of new markdowns!

  7. Painter tees are my favorite. Love the style, the colors, but the newest iteration is really disappointing. I've had two of them develop holes near the underarm, and I've only worn them twice.

  8. Has anyone seen the Gemma's in tortoise yet? I thought that they looked lovely when I saw them online this morning!

  9. OT but sulk cap sleeve top in midnight bloom is down to $52.50 with Shopnow. Most sizes still available. Getting tempted to order it based on the iconic Gigi's positive review.....

  11. This is a really minor vent, but definitely an issue I have. There are so many different "reds" I wish it was possible to see color swatches on the site. I can't tell whether deep papaya will match poppy or if Dahlia is more pink. With so many garments online only color matching can be difficult. It's not just Reds, I also have the same problem with some of the grays too. Charcoal, graphite, gunmetal? Unless they're shown next to each other it's hard to see what coordinates.

I also wish textures were shown close up. I can't tell you how many times I enlarge and then magnify an image just to see the texture of the fabric. I

    2. Agreed. If they are going to do that for styling shots that's once thing but at least make it clear that it's an effect.

  12. My issue continues to be how much of their inventory is made in China.
