Loft - Review here of the moto cords (bought 2 pair) and the ultra soft chinos.
ReplyDeleteLands End has a pair of slim pants in Black Watch plaid for those liking the pattern but not the cut of J Crew's version. The reviews are kind of all over the place but their CS is so good that I've never had an issue with a return. http://www.landsend.com/products/womens-mid-rise-slim-leg-pants/id_293509?
ReplyDeleteJC Factory is sending out their new arrivals link this morning and there are a pair of black watch skimmers in there as well.
DeleteI tried on the Black Watch plaid slacks and I loved them! They fit nice close but not too tight in the hips and legs and have a nice slim fit. I like that they come up high on the waist. Very nice looking. I already own a suit of slacks and jacket in black watch plaid or I would have bought the Land's End ones. Also they are not skimmers...I think they are like a 32" inseam so you have the choice of making them shorter or not. I like that. They are also lined.
DeleteI ordered the flannel joggers from Ann Taylor and they are set to arrive today. I can review after work. I ordered because they are a bit edgy and different yet still work appropriate. The fabric blend does not thrill me - wool and poly - and I won't know until I feel them whether that will be a deal killer. I'm hoping for softness and washability.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, I continue to be impressed with Emerson Fry. I recently ordered the stud belt which arrived yesterday. I couldn't love it more. The workmanship of their garments is top notch. Packaging and shipping is well done. I'll be buying more from them.
For the educators out there ... Lands End offers a 15% discount and the policy is just like J Crew's ... In store only (so Sears locations) and stacks w other promos. I never knew this but the SA I spoke to said the new CEO is very supportive of the policy and there was actually a small sign on the counter about it.
ReplyDeleteI used the discount that day. Gotta say, they are really stepping up their game.
I tried a couple of pieces from the LL Bean Signature line recently (during a 10% off promo) and really liked them:
ReplyDelete1. cotton fisherman cardigan in beige

My usual JC size in sweaters is M but based on reviews I bought a S and it is perfect. Fitted, sleeves are long enough (I'm 5'10") heavy substantial cotton (machine wash, yay). Just a gorgeous, well made, casual sweater. And (listen up JC) I was happy to pay $90 for it since I know it will last a long time, it fits well, versatile, and is very flattering.
2. Signature military pants in dark olive:

I've been looking for some decent casual but non-jeans pants for a while and the reviews on these were so great thought I'd try them out. My usual size is 8 but reviews said these ran a bit small so I tried an 8 and a 10. The 8 was actually a perfect fit, 10 was a touch loose in the waist. These only have a 30" inseam so are more like ankle pants on me but looked great when I tried them on with tall boots and chelsea boots too. They are SO flattering and slimming. I didn't want to take them off.
Oooh, Julie, thanks for mentioning those pants, they seem great for what I'm looking for rite now, love both of those colors and they have great reviews. Excellent tip!
DeleteLooks like BR is trying to out-crew J.Crew with their Harris Tweed collection-style pieces, and maybe it's working since I couldn't even see either of the coats on the US site, so perhaps they sold out already. Here's the link to them on the Canadian site in case you missed them:

They had a gorgeous swing top with a bit of lace peaking out at the bottom which sold out while I hummed and hawwed about the size!
DeleteOn the topic of BR, have you seen the news that Marissa Webb got demoted after dismal sales of the new designs? I have to say that I have found the new stuff at BR to be "trying too hard" to be trendy, and simply unflattering and unrealistic for women who don't have fashion model bodies.

Interesting, but not that surprising to me. I find it odd that she's got her own label and also designs for BR, although I think others have mentioned she's not the only one that's done that.
DeleteTalbots - Four J. Crew sMacKdOwNs. The shoes are currently 40% off at Talbots. Remember, if you can order in-store from a red phone, the shipping is free.
ReplyDeleteBackcountry.com has 20% off one item right now (free shipping, too), and they carry a couple of the Penfield plaid shirts that Madewell carries. I have and love the Jansen (cold wash, hang dry, iron-but still love), and just ordered the Pearson. Recommend sizing up one over your usual. HTH someone!
ReplyDeleteThere is a Buy One Get One 50% off clothing, shoes, & accessories at Target until Saturday. I've shared more details, my personal picks, and also a few reviews & IRL pics of items I recently purchased to check out in this post.
ReplyDeleteI just picked up two Uniqlo flannel shirts yesterday on promotion for $14.99. Uniqlo has some great colors & patterns. I found the XS to fit me best; size S was too large in the body. The sleeve length just fits, so I will be careful not to put in the dryer.
