JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Happy Thanksgiving everybody! Would love some help on pairing the factory shimmer pants for a work party. I'm trying to get away from the usual white or black shirt, and would love some inspiration. Thanks!

    1. Love those pants! I'm all about a statement shoe, so you could pair it with a red festive pump.

  2. Does anyone have an opinion on whether the cocoon coat could work on a short-waisted, narrow-shoulder gal who's 5'4"? I'd love a pant coat and the colors are so pretty but I'm afraid I'd look like the Michelin woman in something so bulky on top. Getting to Charlotte is a three-hour round trip and I'm not even sure they'd have a coat in store for me to try. I generally wear a size 2 in lady day coats and those work great for work but I'd like something different. Have never tried petites in a coat, but the sleeves are usually too short.

    1. You are so tiny it's hard to imagine anything looking bad on you! That's the good news. The bad news, this is juts me but I am not the biggest fan of the cocoon coat. I prefer the chateau parka for a look like that..(sorry)...I mean all of J Crew is fab, but i feel the cocoon coat is less fab. Have fun. What color. Also, I am 5'4" weight 106, usually size 2, and I was all over the place sizing my lady day. I wound up with 4 petite. I am not petite, i have long legs . But whatever. It might be worth for you to save the gas, place your order with free shipping, and use the return label for what you don't want to keep. good luck

    2. Thanks, Holly. The funny thing is, I grew up in the Snow Belt and I had coats like the chateau parka every year of school. The fur around the hood protected your face in subzero wind chills while you stood waiting for the bus. So, despite all the raves from most JCAs for that style, it doesn't feel that special for me. The cocoon coat looks like a totally new style, but I guess if I have my doubts, probably better to wait for something I really love. Anthro often has great casual coats with vintage flair but I haven't liked much this year.

    3. AW>>>I just took another look at the coccon coat, and I think it's kind of impossible to look bad in it...but color selection is starting to dwindle. If you think you might feel great in it, at least order it and try it on at home. It will cost you $6.95 to use the label and ship it back if you don't like it, but tha's way less than the gas to drive 3 hours. And easier too. Have a little fun and enjoy.

  3. Hi! I got the pink lady day coat. Of course it looks great with everything, but I was wondering should I try to find some tan or natural boots while the sales are on? Does that make sense with the retro pink? Also, would you style it up (aquatalia style elegant suede flats) or down (9 west gunner combat boots). I live in jeans. If I can link to these boots, I will , nope can't.

    1. Yes, I think natural/camel or dark brown boots would work well with the coat. I typically style up my lady day coats; I don't have the retro pink but I do have several colors. I think they can also look cute with plaid scarves and duck style boots as is typically shown in the style guide. Congrats on the coat!

    2. hoooYeah!!! It's a long story, but I had it, lost it, and got it back again with that coat , so I am thrilled. I kept the 4 P and wore it last night on my birthday. With jeans and LK Bennett glitter shoes. I felt great. Glad you're enjoying your coatS and I don't feel like such a coat hoarder now.

  4. I'm styling the Wool-cashmere turtleneck sweater in Dark Poppy on the blog today along with the Plaid Elsie pumps. The sweater I sized up in, and the pumps run TTS to slightly big.
