"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I want J Crew to post the actual fabric content for their jeans and cords, rather than their usual cotton with stretch, which varies greatly from fabric to fabric and therefore provides no useful information at all!

    1. I agree, almost bought something with the 30% off promo. But annoyed that I would have to pay for very slow.... shipping for an item that is petite and online only so I can't try on in store. Plus, remembered that I still waiting for my shipping notice for my replacement pair of Gemmas, that were defective. They were ordered in store on Saturday. Items from other stores ordered on Sunday, I have received shipping notices already.

    2. What I hate is getting a shipping notification that means nothing. It generally takes 5 days after my notification for the item to ship. It's insulting. No other retailer does this.

  3. I know we have mentioned this many times in the past, but I have to say that I am still really annoyed that they exclude items from the different % off promos they offer. I can understand the 3rd party items not being eligible, but I feel that everything J.Crew manufactures themselves should be included every single time. We all know that clothing is overpriced to begin with, and J.Crew items are certainly no exception. It baffles the mind, as to why they would not want to sell out pieces at an additional 25% off regular-price, than to sell them at 30-50% off the sale price, or worse yet have them linger in the sale section for what seems like an eternity. Granted, some items like the Chateau Parka seem to sell fairly well when they first debut, but they could probably sell out almost their entire stock of them at 25% off regular price in the beginning of the season if they would just quit excluding them from the promos. Look at all the items they've excluded within the past month or so, that many of us would have bought with the extra % off had they not been excluded. They seem to be missing out on a lot of sales, IMO.

  4. My hair clip, which was sent in a giant flat envelope, was flattened when it arrived. I know, it was only a hair clip. but really, who sends a plastic hair clip in a flat envelope.

I don't know whether anyone else has found a noticeable change in the SAs in-store, but since the summer most of the staff that had been in my 3 stores for years seems to have been replaced entirely, and not for the better. The new staff are often laughably uninformed, poorly trained and just do not represent the company well. It's not just Christmas hires, I've noticed a sea change in the staffing since September. I wonder if the Crew is cutting back on training, or if something else is going on... I've found it a bit off-putting frankly and am perplexed!

    1. I know in my store they did away with the in-store personal shopper positions. For that reason my 2 favorite SAs left in September since they would have had to take a regular position in the store. These ladies had been there for over 5 years and knew their J Crew.

  6. My vent: final sale. Final sale should be gone for the holidays. Overnight several things I was interested in went final sale and Jcrew sizing, especially for pants, is too unpredictable to risk it! Sad trombone.

  7. 3x I have ordered the same regent blazer and 3x I got the dreaded "Sorry Wish We Had Enough!" email. I'm convinced it takes borderfree so long to process Canadian Jcrew orders that I miss out. This one is not available in Canadian stores.

  9. JCrew sent me this promo card - I thought it was a rewards card. I have to spend $100 to get $25.00 off. Normally I just get a $25.00 card with no restrictions. I tried using it on the 30% off sale but I couldn't. I don't think that's nice to customers. Especially if you're a frequent shopper. Basically I either use this or the 30% off but not both. Bah humbug !
