This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So
if you have recently purchased,
or stopped by a J.Crew store to try
on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you
might be willing to share that
information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In
particular, if you could
mention a few of the noteworthy
details like fit, size, fabric, and the
like— that would be fantastic! Thanks
in advance! :)
The Collection café capri in antiqued floral reviewed HERE.
ReplyDeleteBonus ;) you also get to see my wacky Thanksgiving outfit.
Fitting room reviews from the outlet here including the Intarsia Bow Sweater (both Girls' 14 and Women's XS), Collared Peplum Top (clearance in store), Printed Bow Neck Top (very flowy in the torso), Black Watch Plaid Blazer (runs slightly big, 00 fit like Schoolboy 0), Lace Tee (super thin material), and Charley Sweater in Burgundy (gorgeous color).
ReplyDeleteDue to financial constraints, I've recently had to cut back a lot. And as painful as it is to say, J.Crew falls under the "no-no" list. Check out my latest blog posting of J.Crew look-a-likes for a fraction of the cost!

Anyone have a review of the Hughes Satchel? I passed during this promo but given the high chance of another one soon, I would love to hear more from anyone who is using one! I am not a satchel-top-handle gal usually but I do love this "origami" design!
ReplyDeleteI don't have it, but I checked one out in the store recently. It seems pretty big until you pull the handles together, then it seems like a better size. The black leather seemed substantial and very stiff and structured. It was not a slouchy purse, in leather, and I didn't see the suede version. I really liked it. Sorry that's not much of a review but I'm sure someone else can give you a better description. I thought it was fun and unique and I was drawn to it, but I usually carry a plainer purse so I thought the extra zipper detail might not fit with my personal style. Still, I wanted it!
DeleteJust bought the black after seeing it in store-the gold is a lovely burnished color, soft leather, I think the size is perfect for every day lugging....the sale price+30% off was just too good to pass up...
DeleteI ordered the bag in pale graphite - I will post a review once I get it!
DeleteVintage sweatshirt in metallic triangles
ReplyDeleteitem 07723
Great broken in feeling on this printed sweatshirt. Drop shoulders tend to puff out a little bit. Fit is TTS.
Military parka
ReplyDeleteitem 06823
This item runs very large, size down at least one size, possibly two. I normally wear an S and this XXS fit me (5'8" 125#). I got the XS just to have extra room for layering. Nice warm coat that is not puffy, good for wet weather as well.
I want this coat! I agree it runs very big. I'll wait until it goes on sale, though. It doesn't seem like something that will sell out.
Deletehi there-- a bit OT-- hope that is OK! The stadium cloth duffle coat-- does anyone have some advice on whitening up the rope toggle holders on this? My coat is black and when i picked it up from the dry cleaners-- the rope did not look at bright white as I would like. TIA!! Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteI've used spray Oxy Clean and a toothbrush on mine and that worked well.
DeleteAny feedback on the Anchor-Button Sweater? I noticed that one of the colors is already sold out and I don't know if its due to the awesomeness factor or J Crew is playing inventory roulette.
ReplyDeleteThis sweater in the blue-red color arrived in my mailbox today! I like it--it's a nice weight, the colors are nice, etc. It's a tiny bit scratchy, but not enough that I would have to wear anything under it--and, as always, it has dumb bracelet sleeves. I took the larger of my sweater sizes, which seems right--I even wondered if I should go up to a medium for more room, but I figure that's just Thanksgiving turkey talking. Overall like, will most likely keep.
DeleteThanks for the feedback! I was thinking about sizing up, I have had to do that with all of the semi-fitted sweaters this season.
DeleteReceived the Colection Neon Tweed Jacket yesterday and love it. Its not a neon orange, but more muted with black, turquoise, and a little fuschia. I have broad shoulders and sized up 1 size, fits perfect. Braclet length sleeves on me. Looks great with jeans. I love it buttoned up, with the funnel look neckline. Nicely finished on the inside too.
ReplyDeleteMaybelle, I love the look of this jacket. How did you find the fit? Did you take your usual jcrew schoolboy size? Any size info would be appreciated!
DeleteSorry for posting in the wrong spot, it was the only way I could see to contact maybelle -- if you ever want to sell your Collection paisley blouse, please contact me! kriscrew5519 at gmail dot com thanks much!
DeleteIs the biennial satchel gone for good???!!! Please, Please, Please bring the medium size back in new colors...
ReplyDeleteNothing is ever gone for good at jcrew, lol.
DeleteShopping Celle, I'm a 10 in the schoolboy and that's the size I took in the neon tweed jacket. HTH
ReplyDeleteThanks Maybelle. It looks gorgeous!
DeleteSo last week I ordered the Collection Circle Skirt on pop back as well as the Jacquard fair isle sweater and the fair isle leggings. Today I excitedly open my package.....to find a Factory boys' blazer. And the skirt is sold out, which I've wanted for ages. So disappointed.
ReplyDeleteThat is ridiculous. What are they doing?! Did you get the sweater or leggings? I'm sorry about the skirt.
DeleteUgh! That is awful. :(
DeleteI just commented in the 30% off sale post about a order mix up I had as well! I ordered a purse, shoes and jacket and received two pairs of shoes meant for someone else. Fortunately the items were still in stock and they are reshipping but there were complications because I used my rewards card and I wanted to still claim my 10% ebates. A manager was able to sort everything out but a pain nonetheless.
DeleteNo I got nothing! They were very understanding over the phone, but this is the second order mixup in two days. Oh well. Murphy's law?
ReplyDeleteThere is no excuse for that. Missing all three items from your order is pretty major and they should track down the two more current ones and send them to you free of charge. Then they should offer you a gift card for your trouble, especially since you didn't get the skirt and now probably won't. Sorry!!
DeleteNot free of charge, shipping free of charge, I meant!
DeleteWARNING! I bought the "toothpick jean in chevron bead" in the old color, a red, from the Lynchburg warehouse sale last month and I wore them once and only half the beads are left. I got so many compliments when I wore them but they are poorly made. The beads are stiched on but there is no real knot on the backside so any friction has them unravelling especially between the thighs and on the back where u sit down. Needless to say the new color (canvas) is currently on sale for $178 and although they are adorable they wont last long, I'll be busy handsewing my beads back on for the holidays :(
ReplyDeleteQuite a while ago I backordered/waitslisted the Nike Waffle Racers. They run a bit small. I ordered them 1 size smaller than my regular size. The description suggests (because they're men's sizes) that women order 1 1/2 sizes smaller. They arrived yesterday and they fit great in the size I ordered. They feel good on long walks. I like the look better than converse (and they're more comfortable than converse). I appreciate the matching color extra laces that came with them (red with red or navy with navy. Perfect).
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried the handknit fair isle sweater in navy/garnet/pink item # 08154 ? I like the look of it in the style guide but as we all know, looks can be deceiving and it is online only.
ReplyDeleteSo I went to the NYC sample sale and found a bow popover in a size 2. I took a chance because I was thinking to layer a tneck under it but it actually fits great on itself (I think the 0 would have been too short to tuck in). I am in love, it is adorbs!!! The color is a very deep red (doesn't read burgundy to me) and the bows afer closer inspection are a dark navy but could be mistaken for black (I mean that you could wear this with black and I don't think anyone is going to come up to you to tell you that you have mismatched your shirt and the rest of your outfit). The fabric is thin as the cotton-silk blend usually is but I personally love it (all my favorite shirts are made in cotton-silk). I have a pic on my Instagam (crazyaboutjcrew).
ReplyDeleteAlexis if you put up a post I can share my sample sale experience for the new yorkers who might be interested in going.
Hi Ema, did your blog move? I miss your posts!
DeleteHi SE mom, no, it is just on a hiatus. I had so many Internet issues with my computer that at some point I just stopped botgering. You can find me on Instagram these days but I will resuscitate the blog when it becones less combersome and time-consuming for me. Thanks!
DeleteHi Ema, were there great deals and great items? Am planning on stopping by Sunday
DeleteIn general the prices are not so low but then there are exceptions because for example the cotton shirts are $25 but that includes Liberty shirts (that I left there because I just don't wear them). Collection pieces are cheaper on the website as they are half off the original price but then they have a few real samples and those are much cheaper. I got a beautiful sample blouse in the golden paisley silk for $40 (not my size but easy to alter). Excursion vests are $65 (I saw at least one herringbone). They have a lot of shoes but nobody is buying them because they are $100 for heels/booties and $65 for flats. So you will probably get a good deal on those if you on Sunday when they typically slash prices. All in all I think is a good sample sale, you just have to know what's worth it and what's not and usually JCAs know. But you can also find that coveted piece that went away. There is not a lot from the current season though so in case you are looking for current style I wouldn't bother (I saw a few Collection jackets from this season and the bow popover but that was about it). HTH!
DeleteThank you! yes it does
DeleteGood to know you are on Instagram. I miss your blog posts.

I also saw (in store) the tipped silk tee and I actually really liked it. The silk is more substantial than other silk thing shirts (it is the silk used for the heartthrobe shirt witha bit of Spandex in it). Now I am "almost" sure that the tipping on the red one at my store was blue (the blue tipping that is shown on the black one in the stock picture), unless it was another shirt (but how many tipped silk shirts could there be?) Maybe somebody else could confirm this but in any case I liked it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ema,i love the tipped tee in windowpane.
DeleteReview on my blog!
I received the Merino Fair Isle sweater in black/natural today and I absolutely love it. It's a beautiful sweater and now I'm curious to see some of the other similar sweaters from this year. I reviewed it on my blog here.
ReplyDeleteI also reviewed the black/gold Cap Toe Everlys with the patent bow here. Cute shoes, flimsy bows.
I received the Bridget Dress in the cranberry color. The V is a little bit low but I can make it work. The color is awesome. There is one pleat on each side which is nice. Unlike the Emmaleigh dress that is totally flat and shows off any poof in your midsection. And there is pockets. That sealed the deal for me. Runs TTS.
ReplyDeleteThe Secretary blouse white with black tipped bow on the front. Wow very sheer. Even with the cami it is almost too shear. But gorgeous so I kept it. I will most likely wear it under a dress or blazer so I won't be flashing anyone.
I bought a bunch of crew cuts - Jeweled sweatshirt, the sleeveless grey sweater dress, and some other things I can't remember, let me know if you want info on the first two.
Review of the silk tipped tee in windowpane, the scarf linen tee, colorblock crewneck and floral embossed sweater in my blog <a href="http://ina-wonderland.blogspot.com/>here</a>..
ReplyDeleteI lso saw some new markdowns:the open cardi and the lace skirt.
Has anyone bought the split neck dress in the dark peony? How vibrant is the color and is the dress TTS?
ReplyDeleteCable-knit pocket sweater (08873) - I thought the yarn was thick and pretty soft, and liked the cable-knit pattern. As I feared, it was short and boxy - my usual S had very tight arms and it basically looked like I was wearing a child's sweater. Very disappointing. When I returned it, the SA said they had 3 of them come back in the last 2 days with the same complaints.
ReplyDeleteFactory marled camp socks (52159) - these are not anywhere near the same quality of the retail camp socks, unfortunately. Much thinner. I wore these a handful of times and washed them once and now there is a hole at the top of the sock where the weave is coming undone. Don't bother with these.
Thanks for reviewing the pocket sweater. Sorry to hear it is way too short. I'm noticing that a LOT lately. Between the short length and the bracelet sleeves, I'm having a hard time finding anything to buy at J Crew.
DeleteAgree re: Factory camp socks. So thin and cheapie-feeling. I know they are going to fall apart after a few washings and I'm glad I only ordered one pair. The blue color is really pretty, though.
Yeah, it's really a bummer. Update - I tried the M in the pocket sweater and it's basically a bigger square. No extra length. Sleeves are less tight, but it's too wide. Because it's short, the pockets hit right at the waist and jut out making the sweater look even more wide. It's unfortunate because the yarn and cable pattern were quite nice.
DeleteThis has probably already been discussed before, but does anyone have tips on sizing for the Everly suede pumps (05000)? I heard to go up a size, so I went from a 5.5 to a 6, and the 6 is huge! However, the neon lace pumps (68606) I got in a 5.5 are very tight... is there a sizing discrepancy between the two types of shoes, or are my feet just crazy?
ReplyDeleteI consistently have to go up half a size in all the Everlies (leather and suede). Didn't try fabric but I assume it would be the same. For reference I am my regular size in Valentinas. HTH!
DeleteJCrew Factory plaid shirt review (the print is no longer online, but may be in-store.) There's also a JCrew tartan currently in-store that is very similar.
ReplyDeleteMen's alpaca full zip sweater arrived Thursday. Available online only. Wish they would give details of material proportions in item information. Called simply alpaca sweater so you expect it to have a lot of alpaca in it. Ten percent. 50% wool, 40% acrylic. After wearing it Friday, not sure what I can wear it with next. Sheds like crazy. At the end of the day, looked like I was playing with cats all day.
